Installation Stops Responding

Hello. I have been trying to install Solaris 10, and I am afraid that I need some assistance. Onto some brand new CD-RWs, I have burned the x86 ISOs. The basic problem is that the installation keeps getting hung. It is very sporadic, freezing at different random points throughout the early setup process.
It just stops responding. There is no activity, and key presses do nothing. Even pressing the power button (which should instantly turn the computer off) does nothing. At least, it does not respond like it should. Only after holding the button down for quite a few seconds does it actually turn off.
The computer is kind of old (maybe a decade or so). However, to me, it does appear to at least somewhat meet the minimum requirements. I mean, its processor is a slow 350 MHz Pentium II. Still, it does meet the minimum memory requirements.
It has one 64 MB module and three 128 MB modules. That exceeds the installation minimum of 256 MB. It is also greater than the 400 MB needed for the graphical installation.
Still, it keeps freezing. Once, using the text console, I made it as far the screen where the installation can be customized (where packages can be added and removed). However, most of the time, it stops responding just a few screens after I choose the installation method (such as interactive, text console, et cetera).
I have tried the disc in a different computer. It worked wonderfully. The graphical interface appeared and everything. It was smooth and trouble-free. (I have yet to be able to make it to the GUI on the older computer. When I try, it always freezes beforehand.)
I find it strange that the installation gets hung at different points. There is no regularity, no way to predict when it will happen next. Just, one second, it is fine. Then, it is locked up.
I am thinking that it must be something with the old computer's hardware. However, I am not sure what. Why would it freeze at different points? Sometimes even when I am trying to make selections using the arrow keys and space bar?
I have read something about disabling ACPI to resolve problems similar to my own. Might that help? If so, how might I go about doing that?

I would just like to add a more recent observation. It seems that the CPU fan stops spinning following the copyright notice. Perhaps that could be why the installation freezes sporadically?
Last night, I tried the installation again. For the first time, I actually made it all the way to the point where the Solaris files are installed onto the hard disk. Then, it froze again.
If the CPU is overheating (due to its fan not spinning), that might explain why the install stops responding at different times for each attempt. No?
Why would the CPU fan even be shutting off? I have looked in my BIOS. I do not have any power management things enabled. And, except during the Solaris installation, I have never observed the fan stopping while the computer is on. Still, every time, just after the copyright notice, its motion ceases.

  • Trouble Installing, Installer Stops Responding... Please Help!

Okay, here is my problem. When I go to install it I get as far as to the point to enter first name last name company and serial. Now when I enter all this information and hit continue I get an hour glass and eventually installer will stop responding. So after a while of trying things to get it to work I repaired permissions, I repaired the disk, I even reinstalled Mac OS X Snow. It still has not work. So I pulled up the Console this time to find that when I have the hour glass the console says it is looking for a file called AELWriter. And it says its missing. It should be in usr/sbin/AEL Writer. However I went there myself and it is not there. Now considering all this, also consider the computer is brand new, 17 inch mbook pro, so I am guessing that the install is being stopped from this and it is missing. Is there anyone out there that can help me??? Or even know what i'm talking about????

  • Zen Installer Not Respond

I was in the process of installing the software for the Zen MP3 player, when the installer stopped responding.
It installed the first three items, but now it is stuck and says "Installation is in progress. Please wait a while." It has been like that for the last half an hour.
I do believe there is a problem.
    What should I do?

Ok. Thank you very much for your help!

  • New PC iTunes Installs but Stops Responding

I had to get my laptop replaced and when I install iTunes on the new one, it seems to install fine but whenever I open the program, it just says iTunes has stopped responding and closes. There is no music added, and there is no music added to the computers hard drive yet. It is a fresh new PC with a lot of memory and I don't understand why iTunes is behaving this way.

  • Programs stop responding when I try to print to PDF

    Info on what I'm using:
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit
Using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, version 8.1.0, up to date on updates
In this example, Microsoft Office 2007, no add-ons besides the Adobe Acrobat add-in that allows the creation of a PDF (but happens in all programs)
    Problem:
I have always created a PDF from a Word/Excel document by printing to PDF (File --> Print --> Select Adobe PDF as printer --> Hit OK). Generally, the next step that occurs is a dialog box appearing that prompts me to select the location where I want to save the PDF and to specify a file name. Several weeks ago, this process stopped working. Now when I hit "Ok" to print to PDF, no dialog box appears and whatever program I'm in freezes/stops responding. Aside: I have tried printing to PDF from several other programs to see if the problem occurs in those as well, and it does -- printing to PDF freezes whatever program I am attempting to print from. (For example, MS Paint, Internet Explorer, Firefox, even Notepad)
Bullet point summary of what I have tried:
Canceling the print jobs in the Adobe PDF printer under "Devices and Printers" (jobs say they are canceling but never clear from the print queue unless I go into Services and restart my print spooler) and reprinting (freezes again)
    Restarting computer (had no effect)
Setting Adobe PDF as my default printer (had no effect)
Setting TrueType font as "Native TrueType" under the Adobe PDF printer properties (Layout --> Advanced --> PostScript Options) (suggested in another thread I read about this problem; had no effect)
Checking to make sure that Word had not "adjusted" the security settings for the Adobe add-in (disabling it) under the Trust Center (Adobe add-in was still enabled, so nothing to change there)
Changing the printer properties to print directly to the printer rather than spooling first (had no effect)
Saving as PDF using File --> Save As --> Selecting PDF as file type (does work and is an acceptable substitute except when I need to convert multiple files to PDF at once and don't have time to go in to each individual file and convert it separately)
Repairing the Acrobat installation from within Adobe or from the Programs and Features menu under the Control Panel (does work, did fix the problem; but see followup below).
Repairing the Acrobat installation worked when I did it a few weeks ago. Once I went through the process, I attempted to print a document to PDF and it worked. But this morning when I attempted to print another document to PDF, it froze Word again and has been doing that ever since, so it does not seem to be a permanent fix. I had succesfully printed several documents to PDF this morning before it stopped working; the document I printed to PDF immediately before the document that froze was the exact same as the document froze in every way except the actual text (formatting, document objects, etc.). So I don't think it was something in the content of the document that "broke" the Adobe PDF printer.
I am sure I can try repairing the Adobe installation again, but I really do not want to have to do that all of the time. Does anyone know what the problem is? I haven't found anything that explains what's going on.

    Anyone?

  • Safari stops responding when I try to bookmark (and other slow problems!)

Two weeks ago my logicboard died, so I sent my ibook out to Apple for it to be fixed. Ever since I got it back this past Tuesday, my Safari has been extremely slow, but nothing else is wrong with my computer. Here are the problems:
    - The biggest issue is that Safari stops responding when I try to make a bookmark. The popup appears to select the bookmark's destination and to enter the name, but when you hit ok, the rainbow wheel comes up and it stops responding, so I have to reset Safari, and now I can't make new bookmarks at all.
    - It lags when it tries to open new windows, especially new tabs.
    - If a new page loads that scrolls at all, and then I try to scroll down, the wheel appears for several seconds until it can load the rest of the page. It's as though it gets stuck before it can scroll.
    - Sometimes when typing, it will also start to lag behind my typing speed, or if I try to click on a new field, it will not immediately allow me to type on occasion.
All these things have never happened before I sent it out. I have reset my cache, and I have tried entering the open DNS addresses in my networks, which has improved loading speed, but hasn't fixed any of these problems. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I can fix anything?

    Try verifying the hard disk.
Boot from your restore disk while holding down the C key until you see the Apple logo, then let go of the C key. You'll see an Installation window, select English. From the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click Verify. If DU reports errors, click Repair. If Disk Utility cannot repair the disk you have several options. One is DiskWarrior or
TechToolPro If Disk Utility can repair any errors, go back to the Menu Bar, click Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you don't have a restore disk, try booting into Safe Mode

  • Firefox stops responding when starting

Basically, Firefox has worked fine for 3 months on this computer, no problems. I haven't installed any new add-ons since I set it up initially. I closed out of my session, went and had lunch, came back and now within 5-10 seconds after starting up Firefox, it freezes. I deleted my cache and nothing changed. I can't use the profile manager because you have to be in Firefox to do so, and it immediately stops responding.
I did a complete reinstall after wiping everything that I could, and it worked for one full session. When I closed it and opened it again, same thing as before. Only thing different from today from yesterday was a single game installation (Sim City 4 what whaaat), otherwise there's been no change to my computer's files.
    Any help?

Are you getting any error message or no
When Firefox hangs, it stops responding to your clicks and keystrokes and doesn't seem to be doing anything. Also, a "(Not Responding)" label is displayed in the title bar and the mouse becomes a spinning wait cursor when it's over the Firefox window. • Windows stops responding and closes when I try to print

I have IE 9 on a vista 64 bit.  Recently I had some problems with print jobs staying in the que.  I resolved that and reinstalled the printer and drivers.  I have a photosmart 5514.  Ever since that day I can't print off a webpage.  Coupons, bank statements etc.  It says windows stopped responding and closes the webpage.  I have been unable to fix this.  Also since that day my microsoft works wont' work.  It says I have corrupted fonts!

It is a wireless connection.  What happened first after a year of flawless performance was I was asked to print a statement from my banks website.  I tried several times and it kept shutting down with the windows error above.  I was unable to print anything from that moment on.  I spent half the day finding the problem and discovered my WP network key was changed.  I have no idea how trying to print from the banks site did that.  I called them to report the situation since it was so strange.  Even asked them if they knew what that number even was.  I still had issued so I just uninstalled the printer and used my installation disc to set it up again.  Now I can print off my documents, PDF or Word but my Works files come up with the message that the font cache is missing or renamed.  When I searched that I found it isn't uncommon and that it is usually a corrupted printer driver.  I loaded it off my CD from HP.  Not sure what to do now other than try to uninstall and reinstall.  Just haven't had a time with work to do that yet.  Also when I try to print off an email, webpage or even a coupon it does the windows has to shut down message.  This will be my last HP printer.  I have problems all the time with them and have owned nothing but HP for over 20 years.  Four computers and printers in the house right now.  I just can't deal with que issues and buying new printers every two years because I have a home office and must have it working.

  • ITunes stops responding when iPod is connected to the computer

This weekend I switched from Windows Vista to Windows 7 with a custom installation of Windows 7 to completely replace Vista (I did not do the upgrade that lays 7 on top of the Vista installation, and I did completely remove the windows.old folder that is left on the hard drive after the installation of 7 is complete). Until tonight, I have had no problems with reinstalling all of the software I need.
When I first installed iTunes, everything seemed to be working fine. I had no trouble importing my songs from the backup I had made before changing the OS. However, as soon as I plugged in my iPod, iTunes froze and stopped responding. I had to shut it down through the Task Manager, and had to use Windows Explorer to eject the iPod so I could disconnect it (I could not restart iTunes with the iPod connected). Now when I plug in the iPod, Windows 7 tells me I should scan the "drive" because it did not shut down properly.
I tried several times to get iTunes and the iPod to sync, but the same thing occurred each time. Finally I did a complete uninstall of iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour, and a few other Apple products, rebooted, and reinstalled iTunes to try again. The same thing happened again, except this time I cannot even shut iTunes down using the Task Manager. I am sure that iTunes works with Windows 7, so there must be something on my end that is causing the problem. If anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.

    What happens when you try?
    Can you sync music?
Have you synced apps from this computer/iTunes library before? You an only sync app from the one syncing computer you can have.
Are the apps compatible with your model iPod/iOS
Do you have restrictions set that would prevent installation of those apps?

  • How to fix Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 when it stops responding?

I have a project with 3 sequences. I am having trouble with the 2nd sequence which is mixed AVCHD and QT. I edited several clip assets extensively, enduring some rather long save times but I did edit. I went to the next clip in the timeline and it is QT. In order to make warp stablizer happy, the sequence is in animorphic format (non-square pixels) per the native AVCHD. The QT clip is in 16:9 1920x1080. When I selected the QT clip, Premier Pro stopped responding and I get the blue donut of death for the past hour.

    Problems with your serial number.
Problems with your Adobe ID or password.
That is not helpful on several levels: 1) It directs me to installation support when I have already long since installed; 2) It links to a useless, for individauls, page in support that talks about developer, workgroup and enterprise support.
    3) Your response, despite my providing extensive detailed information, makes no attempt whatsoever to answer my question.  I expect real support people to monitor the forum, not mere 'customer service', since Adobe pushes individual customers to the forums for support. I'll gladly use a e-mail or web based ticket system to provide a detailed individual service request. I moved to PPro from Corel Video Studio, a product whose full license cost the same as 1 month of Creative Suite (I have the entire CS, I'm paying you $54/month with tax). With Corel, I got per-incident support for bugs for free. They required me to have 1 paid incident available. I would call in, they would determine that indeed this was -their- problem and credit me back my support incident to use for a how-to question. I'm not asking for help to do some particular task. I hit a fatal bug which causes the product to fail., a bug which software QA should have caught and did not. I do not expect to have to spend an hour hunting around for how to contact support only to effectively be steered to the forums where my question can remain ignored by anyone from tech support until I give up.
    Hi,
Sorry, I didn't see your reply until now. I know the support page says it is only for download and installation problems, and that's a little misleading, but our support agents will assist you if you have serious problems with other items, like crashing or errors like you are experiencing.
I'm not sure you attempted to contact them, but they would have guided you to our digital video agents and gotten you the web based ticket you wanted. If you are still experiencing issues, feel free to contact our agents.
If you experience any other problems, feel free to send me a PM.

  • Topic : every app - one at a time - stops responding

Every few days I will have a problem where an application is not responding - I get the spinning pizza wheel. Then I "Force Quit" that app. Usually my most problematic app is Adobe Acrobat Pro version 9.3.4 (which has never allowed me to update, but that's not the reason for this post).
When Adobe Acrobat crashes and I restart, next thing I know, every app - +one at a time+ - stops responding and "Force Quit" tells me that. I am unable to quit these apps the normal way. I must quit them using "Force Quit." So after Force Quitting each app one at a time, I restart my iMac, version OS 10.6.7 and all is well again for the time being.
I have used many maintenance utilities: Cocktail, Drive Genius, Onyx, SLCC, etc. They do their thing, but 3 − 4 days later the same problem occurs.
*_MY QUESTION: Can anyone tell me what may be causing this problem or what it's related to??_*
If I know the answer to this I can maybe fix it.
My only guess is that it may be related to Adobe Acrobat, but I may be wrong about that.

+Can anyone tell me what may be causing this problem or what it's related to??+
Not without more information. At a minimum, you'd have to provide an error messages from the console log relating to the applications that crashed. If you don't want to go to that trouble, just follow the standard procedure for fixing almost any system problem:
    (1) Back up all data.
    (2) Run "Verify Disk" on your startup volume in Disk Utility, and if any problems are found, boot from your installation disc and "Repair Disk" as many times as necessary until it comes out clean.
    (3) Boot from the installation disc and reinstall Mac OS X.
    (4) Reboot as usual and run Software Update as many times as necessary to bring everything up to date.
This procedure will solve nearly all problems such as yours, unless they're caused by third-party system add-ons or by a hardware fault.

  • Excel and Word 2013 stop responding after "Save As"

    Hello-
After the last set of updates (7/8/2014), my Word and Excel "stopped responding" when I attempted to "Save As" any document or spreadsheet that I was working on.  I tried multiple suggestions to no avail and finally ran Microsoft's
uninstaller for Office 2013.  I then installed all updates EXCEPT any of the 7/8/2014 updates.  Then I started installing those one by one.  The one that causes the failure for me is KB2880987.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
    Thanks,
    Jaylene

Don't worry, the installation might have just corrupted your local profile files when it failed, I'm sure it would work on another computer. For me, Office works fine I just want that one update off my update list/mind.

    sonjadg,
you can purchase a replacement pair of grey installation DVDs for your MacBook Pro from either Apple or iFixit. If Startup Manager is only showing an OS X Installer volume, then it sounds like the Mavericks installer had a problem midway through its installation process. To fix this, you’re going to need to erase your internal disk and reïnstall your original version of OS X from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD, use Software Update  to get it back to 10.6.8 (presuming that your MacBook Pro originally came with Snow Leopard), and then restore from Time Machine.

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. In addition to the files listed in the support article, you may also have to remove the following in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.Installer.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.Installer.completer.ltvbit.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.Installer.completer.update.plist
    ~/Library/Application Support/IM.Installer/Completer.app
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
