Intel 5300 agn keeps disconnecting on brand new X301

Hi,
I just received a new X301 today with Windows 7 64 bit and I've been quite happy with it except that the wireless card keeps losing the signal and then reconnecting. I am not sure why and this does not occur with other laptops on this network. What should I do? Should I downgrade the driver? It looks like the driver I have is the latest. Should I contact lenovo because the card is defective? Thanks.

Same here. I have a new W700 running Windows 7. My WAP at home is a WRT54G v3 running DD-WRT.
Sometimes the link goes up and down all the time, sometimes it's stable. Messing with the power settings seems to fix it, sometimes.
This is a pretty commonly reported problem and I think the 5300 driver has been patched to address it, but obviously it's not fixed yet. I'm current on all my patches so there's not much I can do other than wait for another one.

  • WRVS4400N V2 and Intel 5300 AGN can't connect at N speeds

    Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude E6500 with the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN adapter.  I cannot get it to connect to my WRVS4400N V2 at anything higher than 54 Mbps.  I have downloaded the latest driver from Intel and N mode is enabled.  Has anyone else managed to get these two to work together?
    Thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem as kirksaban.  I have an HP EliteBook 8530p with an Intel 5300 AGN.  It can detect my WiFi network from the WRVS4400N is 802.11n, but it will only connect at 802.11g speeds.  We have both an older and newer MacBook Pro that both can connect faster than 54 Mbps, but the HP will not.  I checked the product brief on Intel's site and it claims the 5300 AGN will operate at both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz (I will try to paste URLs below).  Where did you find it would only operate at 5.0 GHz?  Are we sure the band on the 5300 AGN is the problem?

    Hi,
If the issue still exists check in safe mode. If the issue does not persist in safe mode perform a clean boot troubleshooting to find the conflicting 3rd party software.
    Here is how:
    Step 1 Safe Mode
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to gently tap the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly until you are presented with the Windows 7 Advanced Boot Options screen.
    3. Using the arrow keys, select the Safe Mode option you want.
    4. Then press the enter key on your keyboard to boot into Windows 7 Safe Mode.
    5. When Windows starts you will be at a typical logon screen. Logon to your computer and Windows 7 will enter Safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you require, and when you are done, reboot to go back into normal mode.
    Step 2. Clean Boot
You are required to perform a clean boot to find the program that is causing this and then disable or remove it.
Here is the procedure to do it:
     Clean Boot Troubleshooting:
    1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
         User Account Control permission.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the
         password, Or click Continue.
    2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
    3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup items check box.
    4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
    5. Click OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click Restart.
    7. After the computer starts, check whether the problem is resolved.
If the issue is resolved check which third party is causing the problem, referring the link given below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    8. Also you need to uninstall and reinstall the problem software on your computer.
Reset the computer to start as usual
    9. After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    10. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
    11. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

  • Repeated error from Intel integrated Graphics card in my brand-new B320

    Hi
I am getting repeated errors from the Intel Integrated Graphics card (on the Intel i3 chip as I understand it) in my brand-new B320.
I checked via a tool from Intel that my drivers were up-to-date (version 15.22.1.2361).
I checked via Device Manager Update Drivers that my driver was up-to-date.
I attempted to uninstall and re-install my driver BUT the uninstall reverted me to a VGA Adapter (so my screen was then running in a low res 800x600 mode!) and I could not even then see the Intel Integrated Graphics card in Device Manager to be able to re-install the driver against (even if I ran scan for new hardware): I had to restore to a System Restore Point - so the problem has of course come back.
I have even had one error where the screen then went completely blank and nothing would bring it back: I had to power off the PC (Ouch!)
PLEASE advise how I rectify this incredibly frustrating problem step-by-step.

    hey johnestlea,
i was going through the download list of the B320 here : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=156819
And could not find any driver with the version 15.22.1.2361 for the Intel Integrated Graphic Card. Where did you get that version ?

  • Final Cut X Keeps Crashing with Brand New iMac

I have a brand new iMac (3.2GHz Quad-core Intel i5, 8GB SDRAM, 1TB ATA, 1GB GGDR5) and have done almost nothing on it before downloading the trial version of Final Cut Pro X. I was used to Final Cut 7 and wanted to try out X before purchasing.
I have one project and one event in Final Cut X, it's only a 4 minute video of mostly images, some video and two audio tracks. Every time I try and add any effect like a simple crop/Ken Burns or cross disolve to one of the pictures, Final Cut crashes.
Most of the stuff on here says to delete your preferences or repair disk permissions. I have repaired disk permissions and it still crashes. And as far as preferences, it says to use an app from Digital Rebellion to delete any preferences but I don't think I even have any to delete. I went to system folder -> Library -> Preferences and looked for any FinalCut.plist files to delete and there are none.
I'm wondering if certain photos I'm using are corrupted, but it would appear they all are then. I imported them from a file, would it help to import them from iPhoto? Is there something else I could do to fix those photo files? Or anything else I could try to get Final Cut from crashing?

Thanks for your reply Russ. I'm not sure what you mean by Preference Manager. Am I looking in the correct place for preference files? (Users > Library > Preferences)
Are you saying that even though I may not find them in the Prefereces Folder, an app like Digital Rebellion would help me find them?
I'll try testing a new project but the problem is I can't isolate the problem clip because it seems to be crashing anytime I try and add effects to any photo. Do you know of an app that I could run photos through to "uncorrupt" them?
And when you say create a new user account, you mean at the system level of the computer?

  • Intel 5100 AGN replacement with an Intel 5300 AGN

I have an Intel WiFi 5100 and I was told to purchase a 5300 card as a replacement.  The laptop starts, but stops and tells me that there is unregistered hardware trying to start and windows will stop it immediatley.  HOW DO I INSTALL THE NEW DRIVERS for a presplash screen in windows 7?

I have an HP Pavilion DV7-2185dx and the Intel website was the one who directed me to the 5300 saying it was more stable and even though the third antenna connection would be open, the performance would more than make up for the lose of the WiFi extentended distance.  AND just so you know:  This network adapter had been working fine for years and years with little or no issues, then about 6 months ago it started to act up, dropping the signal and just working slowly.  I tried, but was unsucecessful in downloading and installing the up to the minute drivers for this 5100.  And finally, this is the mindblower:  The card works extremely and without fault under the Ubuntu OS.  I switched from W7 to U11 with the dual boot and NO ISSUES!  SO, I believe it is something that MS has done with their many, many updates that come over constantly.  They must have updated something else and screwed up the Intel drivers.  If you look online, you will see hundreds of people with the same or similar issues that remain unresolved since 2011, with the only resolution being the use of a USB Network Key, of which I always had as a backup and troubleshooting device.  So, before you look to chastise me for listening to an Intel tech, perhaps you should read the thousands of angry customers who have had their NIC go bad and HP and Intel have NO **bleep** ANSWER!!!  Some crap, to say the least... PS...As I said the card works WONDERFULLY using UBUNTU 11, so I don't believe it is the card, but rather the software that is controlling it.

  • T400 Intel 5300 AGN WiFi can't enable device on Windows 7

After an XP to Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade, wifi is broken. The yellow antenna light next to the bluetooth light at the bottom of the screen is lit. Wired neworking works but not Wifi. I've downloaded the latest Intel driver but when I troubleshoot it gives error messages such as "the device is not enabled".
I've scoured forums and tried a few things.
    1. Uninstall the driver, uninstall Thinkvantage Connection Manager, reboot, reinstall driver, connection manager.
    2. Turn off wireless-n (someone previously posted a solution that involved disabling wireless n).
    3. Disabled the ability to disable the device on the power manager.
    4. Lowered the antenna power (it was on high).
    5. Verified the device in enabled in the bios.
    6. Hit fn-F5 (which seems to do nothing)
    7. Checked the switch in the front (the yellow light does turn off if I slide it left).
If you start up Thinkvantage Access Connections, it shows zero wireless access points and I know I have a few neighbors besides me who have wireless routers. My mac finds my router (a D-Link DIR-655) just fine. A few folks mentioned that the cards do go but it seems strange. The computer rarely leaves the house.  Anyone have a suggestion of something I may have missed ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Solution: Booted into Safe Mode, uninstalled wireless drivers, reinstalled them. Victory !
I suppose it shouldn't have been this difficult but I'm glad the safe mode worked.

  • Connection difficulties with 5300 AGN and AccessConnection

    Hello,
I'm having some network difficulties on the new X301.
The laptop has Intel 5300 AGN and AccessConnection v5.
    1. When I come back to office, it doesn't connect to the AP (DIR-635) automatically, even it has been connected, and saved for profile.
    2. After I connect it manually, and after a certain period, the connection seems to be stopped, all network connections got frozen, and a new icon in the notification are shows the 5300 had been disconnected. The driver is 12.12.0.0.75.
    Do you have any idea?

    Hi
Yeah, the detailed information about the notebook could be very useful.
But the driver update is a good idea for the first.
You can also check the settings in the properties of this card in the device manger.
There should be some interesting options which could be changed.

  • [solved] Intel 5300 slow network transfer speed

    Heya,
I'm having trouble with my WiFi card Intel 5300 AGN and i hope you can help me.
It's the transfer speed in linux that bugs me. While I get 9 MB/s in Windows I can't for the life of me get more than 2.5 MB/s transfer rate in linux. And this is only if I use NFS4 and turn off the wifi power saving feature. Samba/CIFS gives me transfer speeds of no more than 0.4 MB/s.
The problem has to be somewhere in my linux software/configuration. But where?
I don't have much experience with WiFi configuration in Linux so mine should be pretty vanilla. No manual change of frequencies, channels and the likes. I simply use netcfg to connect and sometimes iwconfig to toggle the power saving feature.
Here's what iwconfig shows me right now while copying a big file:
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"bett"
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:14:D1:C7:43:C4
    Bit Rate=243 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm
    Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
    Encryption key:off
    Power Management:off
    Link Quality=61/70 Signal level=-49 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:11922 Invalid misc:2 Missed beacon:0
As you can see, power management is disabled. The link quality is very good and the bit rate is at 243 Mbps (which should give me about 15 MBps right?). Yet the transfer rate is only 2 MBps, sometimes dropping as low as 0.7 MBps, sometimes spiking to 4.5 MBps for a second or two.
What can I do to improve my network speed?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,

    Thanks for the reply zvxy.
I'm running the most current from [core], version 2.6.37.5-1.
Disabling the N mode improved transfer rates for CIFS/SMB shares. They are the same as with NFS now which is around 2.5 MB/s. Transfer speed for NFS stayed the same.
I'll try the kernel from [testing] and report back later.
// I've tested 2.6.38.2-1 a little bit now and as long as i don't disable wireless N i get transfer rates of up to 12 MB/s with NFS4. That's more than enough for me and i hope it stays that way. The downside is that transfer rate for CIFS is only 1 MB/s.
If i disable wireless n mode NFS transfer rates drop to ~2.8 MB/s while CIFS transfer rates go up to ~2.4 MB/s.
Guess I'll just have to stick with NFS (not that i don't mind but it's already thrown me some "stale" error messages with the new kernel ... i can't seem to catch a break ).
I'll consider this issue solved. Thanks!

  • New X301 Not Working

My X301 laptop arrived yesterday. Bluetooth, internet are not working.I thought it could be because I installed McAfee antivirus so I  uninstalled it and still no luck.  I tried system restore but no luck, The Thinkpad Advantage button does not take me to the screen to return the system to factory setting. PC Doctor is either not working or is not includied in the system but according to the manual, it should be installed.  Recovery and restore to factory default are not working. I tried to get warranty help but I was informed by three techs that my warranty is not in the system. One tech told me someone would call me back within 30 minutes to activate my warranty. After waiting and hour and a half, I called back and was informed that the warranty department was not open on the weekend. So basically, I have a new laptop that does not work and no one is available to help.
After experiencing this frustration, I asked the tech for a return label because I am not keeping this very expensive laptop that does not work.  She gave me a number but informed me they were also closed on the weekend.  You can rest assured that the first thing Monday morning, I am returning this laptop.

Had a similar experience with a brand new X301 few days back...
Ran from support to sales to sales support ...but they remain as ever ...no hope and plenty of passing the buck ..very unprofessional
Sorry i was not helpful ....but shocking for  a brand new laptop ..a premium one ..they do not enclose a detaield packing list whe delivery for a CTO piece and their sales support team are hopelessly disconnected

  • About Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN

    Hi there guys,
it's my first post on this forum even although I should've asked here first. I have the same problem with the network wifi adapter as mentioned in the previous thread with this subject: it happens to disconnect and after that it doesn't appear in Device Manager for some time. Ussually I go there 'scan for hardware changes' and it appears back, but sometimes it doesn't come back for good and I need to restart my laptop.
So..this is quite sad. I've read all the opinions about this and all solutions so far and nothing worked for me.
I checked my driver on Intel and it says:
    Product Detected
    Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN
    Current Driver Installed
    14.3.2.1
This device is unknown or unsupported. Please contact the manufacturer for possible updates.
So I downloaded their newer driver which is 15.3 and still the driver version remains 14.3.
This is becoming quite annoying becouse it happens to disconnect right when I am downloading or writing an email.
Did someone from tech support found a solution for this? please! I would appreciate a lot. Thank you.
    p.s. I am running win8 pro.

According to the read-me file for the 15.* series drivers from Intel, they DO NOT support the 5300 AGN card.
