IP address failover
Hi,
We have requirement of separating two HA SUN boxes running Server Application over two different cities to handle distater scenario.
Does any body know how can one implement ip failover procedures where networks are separated?
DNS server solution may not work in our case as some of the existing client applications are not using DNS server.
Thanks
Use GateD RIPV2.

I utilized the idea from
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2778/how-to-add-reporting-services-to-an-existing-sql-server-clustered-instance/ to install 2008 R2 Reporting Services on a new Clustered SQL instance. In short, create the new Clustered SQL instance on Node1,
installing Reporting Services with it. Then on Node2, Add a Failover Cluster Node (without choosing Reporting Services); following that up with starting the SQL setup.exe with a cmd to bypass a check so that I can then install the Reporting Services
feature on Node2. It points out using the SQL Cluster Network name for connecting to Reporting Services.
I verified upon failover that I could still access the Reports and ReportServer URLs. However, when wanting to add an SSL certificate to the RS configuration, I run into the warning of "mismatched address - the security certificate presented by
this website was issued for a different website's address", where I can continue and get to the Reports or ReportManager URLs.
I played with different certs (internal CA created) and SANs and other things, but I still get this error with the cert. The Reports URL, for example, is <a href="https:///Reports">https://<SQLClusterNetworkName>/Reports, and the
cert has a CN and Friendly Name of SQLClusterNetworkName (with SAN of DNS: SQLClusterNetworkName.<domain>), but the error still happens.
What am I missing to eliminate the mismatched address warning when using the SQLClusterNetworkName as the base of the URLs?I got it working by using the FQDN as the common name on the SSL cert, with FQDN in RS URLs.

Hyper-V Failover Clustering MAC Address Question
Hello,
Can someone please explain how MAC address assignment works in a hyper-v cluster? I have a couple machines that need to have a static MAC address assigned and want to know how the cluster handles it when the VM is Live migrated to a new host. Thanks in advance.Hi ice2921,
Yes, after export and import to another Hyper-V host, the dynamic MAC address of the VM changes
after export and import to another Hyper-V host, the dynamic MAC address of the VM changes, this is by design.
As Alexey offered article, to have a dedicated Mac Address for the VMs they should be set to static MAC address, it is normal the dynamic assign to vm when the all the Hyper-v
host as there own MAC address range , this is by design of Hyper V and failover clustering when using Dynamic MAC addresses for VMs.
If you are using 2008R2 Hyper-V failover and you found it often lost the network connection and configuration, please install the hotfix.
Reinstalled the integration services

Alter IP address of SQL Server AlwaysOn Failover clustering Iistener
Hi,
Is there a possibility to change the IP address of SQL Server AlwaysOn Failover clustering Listener IP address without deleting the exiting one and also retaining the same DNS name.
NOTE: Only the IP address needs to be altered rest all (DNS, port) should remain the same.
Regards
VijayHi Karthikkk,
As your description, you want to modify the listener IP address in AlwaysOn availability group without changing other settings including DNS and port. To achieve this, you could modify a listener IP address on primary replica using the following statement:
ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP group_name
MODIFY LISTENER ‘dns_name’
ADD IP { (‘four_part_ipv4_address’, ‘four_part_ipv4_mask’) | (‘dns_nameipv6_address’) }
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

Configure active and standby mac address in failover
Hi guys,
I just have a doubt that, if I configure the active and standby mac address in failover, does it will cause any downtime?
As I planning to configure the active and standby mac addresses in failover during production time and not wish that it will bring any downtime to me.
Besides that, just need some guideline that do I need to put all the interfaces' mac addresses in failover?
failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/0 0022.90fe.2000 0022.90fe.2001
failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/1 0022.90fe.3000 0022.90fe.3001
failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/2 0022.90fe.4000 0022.90fe.4001
failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/3 0022.90fe.5000 0022.90fe.5001Hi Marius,
Seem like set the failover MAC address was not working for me.
Last friday I was tested the failover MAC address.
TEST 1
1, Power off primary ASA and secondary ASA work as active.
2, 2821 router able to learn the correct arp entries.
TEST 2
1, Power on primary ASA and failover from secondary to primary.
2, 2821 router able to learn the correct arp entries from ASA.
3, Set failover MAC address, power off primary ASA and secondary ASA be active.
4, 2821 router unable to learn the correct arp entries.
TEST 3
1, Removed failover MAC address from secondary ASA.
2, 2821 router still unable to learn the correct arp entries from ASA.
3, Power up primary ASA and secondary ASA still in active.
4, 2821 router still unable to learn the correct arp entries from ASA.
5, Reboot 2821 router and it able to learn the arp entries from ASA.
I am not sure this issue from router or from the ASA. But I guess I will try to upgrade the router in term of software and hardware. -
Just implemented 2012 DHCP Failover using the Hot-Standy model. I set the Maximum Client Lead Time to 1 hour.
My clients are getting the initial lease with an expiration of 1 hour. Then after the hour, they disappear from DHCP and DNS but they still have the address. Any ideas?I am also having a similar issue after implementing DHCP Failover. I configured it with default settings (1 our MCLT, 8 day leases, %5 IP reserve). I tested the fail over and it worked. Clients received new addresses from the standby. I then started the
DHCP service on the primary and all seemed well. However, a short time later about a dozen hosts seem to have lost their DNS A records.
These machines have DHCP leases that began before the failover was tested and expire days after. They did not actually ever attempt to renew DHCP at this time (to my knowledge). I think this may be a bug or somehow related to the DNS configuration on the
scope. It is currently set to "Always update" and I may change to Dynamically update if requested, and test failover again. -
CSS VIPs use old MAC address after firewall failover
We have our CSS load balancers behind our firewalls in a DMZ and when the firewall fails over the physical interface changes the MAC address to the new address of the now active firewall but the VIP's do not and all traffic to those VIPs are broken. Has anyone experienced an issue like this before? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.I understand you have CSS load balancers behind firewalls in a DMZ, could you clarify what interface changes the MAC address to the new address of the now active firewall after firewall failover? are you expecting VIPS failing over too?
If firewall failed over, depends on types of firewall, for some firewall, mac will change, new Active Firewall sends a 'gratituous' arp which makes the neighboring devices to save the new mac address of the Active firewall with the ip address. It seems to be your case. If for some reason, that is not happening (gratituous arp missing), it could cause issues like VIPS on CSS broken.
The failover of the firewall should be transparent to CSS VIPS. Did you take a capture to see what is happening? did CSS receive requests properly? is CSS load balance to server properly?
If you require CSS failover when firewall failover, then you can define critical service (layer 3) or critical physical interface(layer 2), and if that detect link to firewall down, then it could fail over. -
How to avoid swap of ASA Management IP addresses in case of failover ?
We have 2 ASA 5525X V9.1.2 in active/passive failover mode; they are managed via their M0/0 interface
Is there a way to avoid that primary and secondary ASAs exchange their own IP addresses at time of failover ?
the objective is to allow each ASA to be always managed via the same IP address whatever their active/standby state ;
the "no monitor management" command only allows to avoid a failover to occur in case of failure of the management interface of the active ASA;
thank in advance for any helpHi,
No , this will not be possible. This is because every component of the configuration will be replicated.

MAC addresses of redundant interfaces on failover pair of CSS.
Helo all, I wanted to know what happens to the MAC addresses of the failover interfaces on the two CSS devices configured as a failover pair when a failover occurs?
Also what happens in a failover event in general? Can anyone point me to some documents describing the failover process.

What is solution of nat failover with 2 ISPs?
Now I have lease line link to 2 ISPs for internet connection. I separate packets of users by accesslist such as www go to ISP1 and mail or other protocol go to ISP2 . Let's say link go to ISP1 down I need www traffics failover to ISP2 and vice versa.
Problem is acl on nat statement?
If you config about this.
access-l 101 permit tcp any any www -->www traffic to ISP1
access-l 101 permit tcp any any mail --> back up for mail packet to ISP2 down
access-l 102 permit tcp any any mail -->mail packet to ISP2
access-l 102 permit tcp any any www --> back up for www traffic go to ISP2
ip nat inside source list 101 interface s0 overload
ip nat inside source list 102 interface s1 overload
In this case is links of ISP1 and ISP2 are UP.
when you apply this acl on nat statement then nat will process each statement in order( if I incorrect please correct me) so mail traffics will match in this acl and then nat with ip of ISP1 only.
please advice solution about this
TIAHi,
If you have two serial links connecting to two diff service provider , then you can try this .
access-l 101 permit tcp any any www
access-l 102 permit tcp any any mail
route-map isp1 permit 10
match ip address 101
set interface s0
route-map isp2 permit 10
match ip address 102
set interface s1
ip nat inside route-map isp1 interface s0 overload
ip nat inside source route-map isp2 interface s1 overload
ip nat inside source list 103 interface s0 overload
ip nat inside source list 104 interface s1 overload
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 s0
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 s1 100
In case if any of the link fails , automatically the other traffic would prefer the other serial.
I have not tried the config , just worked out the config on logic .pls go through and try if possible
pls see the note2 column

2 ISPs with addresses /32 and PPtP Server onboard of Cisco 3825
First of all, excuse me for my bad English, it's not my native language.
A couple of years ago our company changed our central router Cisco 1841 with more powerfull 3825 ISR.
Here is show ver
Cisco IOS Software, 3800 Software (C3825-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T7
This Cisco 3825 contains 2 DIMMs - 256Mb and 512 Mb of RAM onboard.
Now it works with 2 ISPs (take a glance on pdf picture http://www.intelcom-ug.ru/scheme.pdf or in the attached file). We're using the failover scheme, the ISP1 with statically assigned IP address 85.20.20.20/32 (Dialer 1) is used as Backup link. The ISP2 L2TP link is main.
Now our authorities organize the remote office with Cisco 1841. And we face with the problem, we cannot connect via PPtP from anywhere to the 85.20.20.20/32 (Dialer 1). And we need some help or advise. The config of Cisco 3825 is like this:

endOkay, you are not going to be able to do this using the interconnect between the switch and the router. The issue is -
1) if you make the interconnect a L2 trunk then you would have subinterfaces on the router interface connecting to the switch. But you cannot have multiple interfaces on the router configured from the same IP range so it won't work ie. you would need a subinterface using the same IP range as one of the other interfaces
2) if you make the interconnect L3 as you have then you cannot route to the same subnet ie. think of it as two separate devices, a L3 switch and a router. You connect the L3 switch to the router using a L3 connection.
On the switch you then configure a client with a public IP and on another interface on the router ie. not the interface used to connect to the switch, you use the same public IP range.
You cannot then route from the client to that other interface because you don't route to the same IP subnet and the client and the other interface are separated by a different IP subnet.
So neither will work. The L3 switch is usually used where you have multiple vlans/IP subnets and you create L3 vlan interfaces for these on the switch and then you route to other subnets that are reachable from the router, whether these are directly connected subnets or remote networks.
But you aren't doing that.
The only way i could see you doing what you need is to not configure the interconnect at all and instead run cables from the relevant router interfaces to the switch. Then you could configure vlans on the switch and have them route via the physical router interface.
The switch is then only acting as a L2 switch and all L3 is done on the router.
One thing i should say is i have never used the switch module this way so i can't guarantee it will work although i can't see why it wouldn't.

The Cluster not failover when i shutdown one managed server?
Hello, I created one cluster whit two managed servers, and deployed an application across the cluster, but the weblogic server gave me two url and two different port for access to this application.
http://server1:7003/App_name
http://server1:7005/App_name
When I shutdown immediate one managed server i lost the connection whit the application from this managed server, My question is, the failover and de load balancer not work, why??
Why two diferent address?
thank any helpWell you have two different addresses (URL) because those are two physical managed servers. By creating a cluster you are not automatically going to have a virtual address (URL) that will load balance requests for that application between those two managed servers.
If you want one URL to access this application, you will have to have some kind of web server in front of your WebLogic. You can install and configure Oracle HTTP Server to route requests to WebLogic cluster. Refer this:

And this for details on how to configure mod_wl_ohs to route requests from OHS to WLS:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/e10144/under_mods.htm#BABGCGHJ
Hope this helps.
Thanks
