Iphone 4S lemon

Dear Verizon,
This is probably going to get deleted, but since your customer service line is no longer answering my calls, this is the only way I walk you through my current predicament:
1. You sold me a refurbished iPhone 4S phone while the cashier claimed it was new, just in a different box.
2. The lock button on said phone stopped working after 1.5 months of having it. When I went to the store to get it fixed (since it was under warranty), the manager said that it's my fault that the button broke because I must "take too many selfies or something", and that it's not covered under warranty.
3. Following that, I called your tech support which said that if I go to the store, they will replace my phone.
4. When I got to the store, the manager there (different from the first one), said that I should go home and back up all my info and it would be no problem to replace the phone.
5. After backing up my information, and erasing everything on the phone, I go back to the store where I am told that my phone has water damage, and that I must have also dropped it, which voids the warranty, and tough luck. The problem is that I never dropped my phone, nor did I drop it in water. Seeing as the lock button broke after 1.5 months, I wouldn't be surprised if there were other things wrong with it as well.
6.After calling your customer service, and speaking to a manager who seemed to be getting somewhere, my call was dropped, and since then I have tried 6 times to call back, and am not being connected. This is my first time with Verizon, and I was quite happy with the service until this issue came up. With all the negative press Verizon gets about it's terrible customer service, I guess I should have known better than to go with your company. If I'm not right, please prove me wrong.
TL;DR: Verizon sold me a lemon phone, and told me "tough luck" even though it's under warranty. Please replace my phone.

iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program - Apple Support
Click the link above. Evidently some iphones have a wake sleep issue. Although it states iPhone 5 it may also occur on your model.
Hey it is worth the effort.
The box if a refurbished device clearly states it on the front of the box. If it just shows the photo of the iPhone without stating it is refurbished, then you were sold a new device.
Bring the device to a local Apple retail store and then let them look at it. They can see drop damage or water damage. By the way water damage can be done via hot environments or caused by steam or even a humid day. It does not mean physically emersing in liquid.
You are better off going to the Apple Store and don't even bother with Verizon trying to do anything with it.
Good Luck

  • Low sound on iPhone 5S

I have done a side by side comparison between my iPhone 5s and my iPhone 4s concerning sound quality. My iPhone 4s has higher sound quality than my 5s. My 5s seems quieter. How would I fix this problem without going to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. However, I suspect that they will call me crazy and turn me at the door once I try to explain the problem just as they did prevously about my iPhone 4s. Its a 16GB Gold iPhone 5s. I have perform a hard reset and still no improvement. I have noticed that music plays louder on my iPhone 4s than 5s. So frustrated. Ugh. Just to also level the playing field of both iPhones, I update to the lastest IOS software and that still didnt make a difference. Please help.

Yes I agree. I just got my I Phone 5S a month ago.    I phone 5S is not as good or as loud as the 4 in the sound quality department.  I'm also having lots of trouble with people complaining about the way I Sound to them.
I hear more people say it sounds like I'm in a tunnel.  Speak up, I can't hear you!  Your phone sounds very noisy.
Problem will happen at the beginning of the call and never go away.  If I hang up and call back that can take care of the problem.  This problem will not happen on all calls.  I feel like I'm back in the days of Analog before 832 channels.  This is my second phone now going for number 3. Working with Verizon.  I love the new features on the I Phone 5S for many reasons.  But this problem is making me very unhappy.  I feel like I spent a lot of money for a Phone that is in my opinion not ready at all to be sold because it has issues. Apple should give me new phones to test out for them before they sell them because I have had a cell phone since 1995.   I believe that I can review the phone for problems.  Make me a Phone Tester!!    I love my Mac Mini, my Laptops and I Pad.
But not this I Phone 5S.  I feel like I'm stuck with a lemon.  Want my old I Phone 4 back but I traded it in to
offset the cost of this expensive I Phone 5S.  Never had an Issue with my (4) ever.
My family has I Phones (4) exactly, no problems with model 4 and 4s.
Apple Please fix this problem with the audio quality on the I Phone 5S

  • HT1414 Can anyone shed some light on my problem with iPhone 5 please? I am 'stuck' in recovery mode and do EVERYTHING that's been suggested online. (Even Apple at Bondi said 'Oh...um...oh that' doesn't sound too good.') when I called them for help.

To say that I am livid would be the greatest understatement EVER made in the ENTIRE history of the planet. Last night my iPhone 5 decided it would go into Recovery Mode. (That is.....a Black screen showing the iTunes logo, a white 'up' arrow and with the white cable/plug at the bottom of the screen).
(Hold onto your Samsung Galaxys people - do NOT throw/give them away when you 'update (yeh right) to an iPhone).
So I turned it off and left it off all of last night. I arrived at work this morning to 'sync/restore' it with my computer where it asked me to install the latest version of 'whatever it is the latest version of.' HOWEVER, as I do not have the administrative rights to do such things on my work computer, I was unable to do so and now I have been riding the 'Apple Merry-Go-Round' since 0630hrs (WAST). It comes up with the following message in a window on the screen:-
'The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14).'
Gee - thanks for that - I'd never have known unless I saw that little window!!!! The fact that my screen has frozen and I am unable to install, sync or restore anything kind of gives it away!!!
'Just go to the nearest Apple Store' I hear you say. That is a 'tad' hard as I work in The Pilbara Region of North West, Western Australia (for 4+ weeks at any one time) and won't be back in 'civilisation' until next Monday week (10th of Feb, 2014)........Talk about being held to ransom by technology!! I have asked other people at work (who ALL have iPhones) and when I showed them the screen (& the whole ridiculous process) they screwed their faces up as they had never seen such a thing. Some people NEVER get asked to update/install anything on their phones.....So, I have to wonder why mine 'asks me'.......constantly.
I fear that my 'Apple' is not an apple but that it is actually a 'Lemon.'
Hey 'Apple' - don't let me get a hold of you!!
Oh yeh - the opening hours actually say Sun 10:00am til 4:00pm or even 6:00pm in some places.......how convenient - when you call (them on their landline FROM a landline) you get the engaged signal!

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to  one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).
    Thanks again, Sandra2474.

  • My iPhone 5 freezes EVERY time I try to open a contact or add/edit a contact and freezes up pretty much on everything I do.

My iPhone 5 operates at about the speed of dial-up internet.  Every time I try to do something I have to wait. My harddrive is not even close to being full and I always close out of my programs so I am confused.  It is mainly a problem with contacts (adding, editing, viewing, anything). I also occasionally hardware reset (power and home button same time) to try and help but to no avail. Is this an Apple issue that a trip to the Apple Store will take care of?  I am just sick and tired of having upgraded to an iphone 5 only to step backwards in speed and performance, plus switching over deleted over half of my contacts even though I had icloud set up on my 4 and also on my 5 so it should have been seamless.  Is my phone a lemon?

If you have force quit all applications, performed a hard reset, software is at 6.1.4, then the device needs to be restored as new. I recommend to sync, transfer, and import all data to your computer and restore as new at this point. It is the same steps the Apple Store is going to do, its a software issue, not a hardware issue right now.

  • 2 day old iphone 5s turns off at 95% battery life and will not turn back on. HELP

So I had an iphone 4s for two years, the battery started to not last as long, so with my upgrade I got the iphone 5s (greatttt). Anyways I had it for a month then all of a sudden I wasn't getting calls, it took over a minute for me to even get a call to send, then once I was on the call others couldn't hear me well, then it would drop (no problems with service, always happened with full bars).  Brought it to Apple store, they told me it was a combination between the phone and my SIM card.  They gave me a new one and recommended I go to verizon to get a new SIM card.  That same day literally 3 hours later, the phone turned off randomly at 65% battery and WOULD NOT turn back on.  I had to go back to the apple store, they restored my phone and almost gave me another new one. However they tested the battery and everything and came to the conclusion it was okay and that I needed to restore the phone and set it up as if I did not already have an iphone (not use icloud to bring EVERYTHING over) So we did that and it started to work, that was two days ago.  Over the course of the last two days I have SLOWLY downloaded my previous APPS, however the only way to download those are to do it from the "cloud" because apparently I can't just get them from the app store.  Well yesterday I got the blue screen of death, however it came back, I thought nothing except that it was over worked.  Tonight it went down to 1%, I left it on the charger until it was at 96%.  I had NO APPS open. Went to my calendar and added a event for tomorrow, put my phone down and then ten minutes later looked at it and its turned off.  It will not turn on, I tried rebooting pressing both buttons, Ive plugged it back it, switched outlets, switched cords, NOTHING.
Of course I wish I never got the iphone 5s at this point.
    What now?
    Back to Apple again?

    Yep.
Just like cars, you lucked on a lemon.

  • I think I have a lemon

My new iPhone 6 seems to have a lot of problems, which are so frequent and annoying that I think I may have gotten a bad phone.  I wanted to share some of them here to see if I'm the only one...
    1. About once or twice a day, the screen goes completely black, then it pops back up to the lock screen.  This sometimes happens when I'm in the middle of writing a text/email/etc.  I don't lose my work (when I go back to the app I was using I'm able to pick up where I left off) but this is still an annoying issue.  There's a variation of this that occurs less frequently where the screen goes black for just a millisecond but pops back to whatever I was doing.
    2. Safari screens and other apps occasionally freeze.  I'm then forced to go back to the home screen, double-tap the start button and close the app.  Upon reopening it works, but again, this is annoying and never happened on my iPhone 4 or 5.
    3. The phone doesn't always automatically go to wifi when I'm in a wifi area.  I often have to go to the settings screen and select the network in order to connect.  This shouldn't happen when I'm near a known network that I've connected to before.  Again, annoying and time consuming and never happened on my older iPhones.
    4. Most of my music doesn't sync to the phone.  I purposely got the 64gb model so I could store ALL my music and ALL my photos on the phone.  When I sync, I don't get errors, but all the music isn't on the phone.  And when I look at "On this Phone" in iTunes the songs that didn't sync are grayed out with a dotted circle next to them.  This is super frustrating and no one seems to be able to fix it.
    5. I'm constantly reminded that cellular data is turned off for a particular app.  I've chosen to do this, so why the constant reminders?  And why do apps that don't connect to the internet (like my Chess app) even need to have cellular data at all?  I know that this particular issue is not unique to me (lots of message board posts complaining about it) but I wanted to include it on my list becuase it's unique to my iPhone 6 and never happened with earlier phones.
To my fellow community members:  If you have fixes for any of these issues, please note the issue number that you're writing about in your response.  Bigger picture...I'm curious if people feel I might, in fact, have a lemon and whether you think I should try to get a replacement?

It is important to know if you did Restore your New iPhone 6 from an earlier iPhone Backup.  Many of your issues sound like some of the issues others have experienced.  If you did Restore from a Backup you may have some Apps that should be re-downloaded directly from the App Store.  It is also important to know if you do have a Computer with the current version of iTunes such that you can put your iPhone in DFU mode and the via iTunes Restore the iPhone 6 to Factory Settings (i.e., New-In-Box).  You would then NOT Restore from the Backup but rather bring the iPhone up as a New Phone, connect to your WiFi and answer the few Start-up Questions.  After you prove to yourself that everything is working without the issues you had faced, you can then Restore your personal Media and Data from Backup.

  • My iPhone 5 delays texts being received for an hour and sometimes days at a time. What can I do to fix that?

So I have had the iPhone 5 since the day it came out in September. I have noticed, randomly, it will delay texts from individuals and in group messages. It has delayed for an hour or more, and more than once it has delayed for more than a day. I have looked at the sent message time and it says 8:52am but I am receiving it at 9:30am? Or once it kept ringing for like a minute straight as all the messages from a group message came in from two days prior, they have the date they were sent but they don't get to me until much later than needed. I have no idea why it does it either. Any help?

I am having the same problem on my iPhone 5 16gb on Verizon. I did a fresh restore from scratch twice and my messaging is extremely slow/buggy it freezes mid text, mid sending, while opening a photo received photo or sent photo in messaging app. Also I have had the phone just refuse to turn on until I wait for like 1 minute and keep trying. Another issue with the messaging app is that sometimes the messaging app will chime in as a new message is received minutes after I have already read and replied to it.
Do I have a lemon piece of hardware or is this potentially a software bug affecting more users?

  • Iphone will not restore Error 21

Here is a little background to this problem. I had an original iPhone that the Wi-Fi quit working on this past week. The phone was 2 1/2 months out of warranty and Apple would not, or could not do anything to help me other than sell me a new 3G. I just purchased the 3G tonight (16g black) and they activated it at the store for me. I made a phone call on the way home and all is good.
I get home and was going to check to make sure the Wi-Fi on the phone worked when all of the sudden the screen goes to the Apple logo and then starts freaking out. A lot of text flies across the screen saying something about a PANIC and Darwin Kernel. I read online all sorts of issues about this, before I finally come across how to start the phone in recovery mode. I finally get it started in recovery mode and hook it up to my PowerBook G4. I click RESTORE and it gives me this message:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error ocurred (21).
I literally had this phone for 1 hour! My original iPhone was a Christmas gift from my wife and it bothered me that it was no longer working, but then to have this happen immediately is sad. Can anyone help? Does anyone have any information about this error or how I can get my phone restored, or should I just take what appears to be a lemon back to the Apple Store?

i also had this problem with my iPhone, i put it in the dock, iTunes came up on my MacBook, then the iPhone restarted a white screen came up for about 25 seconds then an Apple came up, then the connect to iTunes logo appeared, I was puzzled as to why this had happened since i'm extremely careful & certainly would not ever jailbreak it, because its against Apple's EULA. So i click restore expecting everything to work, then I get something like "iTunes cannot connect to the iPhone "iPhone" an unknown error accrued error 21. Then i put it in DUF mode, the screen went white again, looked like the firmware was installing then that failed & now its displaying error 2001, what shall I do

  • Possibly Corrupt files on my iPhone 3GS?

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can guide me int he right direction.
Last summer I upgraded my 3G to a 3GS, I imported all of my content from my 3G onto my 3GS.
I can exactly pinpoint when the problems started, but here's the list of what has been happening for at least the last 6 months:
    - Native apps (mail/safari) randomly crashing
    - When I go into an out of service area (eg an elevator) it takes at least 2 minutes to reconnect/recognize the network, turning on and off airplane mode works 50% of the time, most of the time I end up having to shut the phone off and on
    - Had a ghost email in my mobileme inbox until a full wipe/restore by the apple store
    - Random crashes/locks and bouncing me to my enter passcode screen
    - BIGGEST ISSUE: When I try to update the firmware to the latest version (I always make sure itunes is updated first), it fails halfway through and then bricks my phone into a restore cycle with an error # that I can't recall, but I know researching it didn't do me any good. This cycle goes on for about an hour before the restore & update finally works.
I went to the apple store finally last Friday to see what they could do for me. All they did was wipe/restore my phone and tell me "don't install any apps".
Within the first 10 hours of use (which is pretty limited without apps) I had Safari crash. Last night I plugged my iphone into my mac to charge, and it proceeded to synch. Immediately after it synched and I tried to use it, my sms app crashed twice upon trying to open it and respond to a message.
I'm not sure if this is possibly a corrupt file in my back up? Or if this phone is just a lemon. It's definitely not caused by any applications that are installed because I haven't reinstalled any.
Does any one have other experiences with something like this? It was suggested by someone at Rogers (my carrier) that it could be a corrupt contact or file? But that doesn't explain the crash before it had synched fully. I have mobileme, so my contacts automatically synched off my Apple address book.

Was your iPhone restored at the Apple store as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, or restored from your iPhone's backup?
If the former, you followed this by restoring your iPhone again with iTunes from your iPhone's backup when returning home?
I'm not sure if this is possibly a corrupt file in my back up? Or if this phone is just a lemon. It's definitely not caused by any applications that are installed because I haven't reinstalled any.
If your iPhone has not been restored with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, do so. If the same occurs after restoring with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, this will indicate there is a problem with your iPhone and needs to be exchanged under warranty. If the same does not occur after doing so, this will indicate there is a problem with your iPhone's backup.

  • IPhone isn't recognized by iTunes; won't charge via USB

I recently switched a friend to Mac/iPhone and things haven't been very smooth, unfortunately. His MacBook video card appears to be faulty (the screen appears to "breath") and now his iPhone has stopped connecting to the Mac. I'd say that Apple's hardware quality control has really tanked in recent years. I also bought a MacBook and am having video card problems too. Very disappointing for a life-long customer (25 years and counting!). Anyway, back to the iPhone...
My friend's first problem with the iPhone involved the "device not compatible" warning. It just started to appear randomly, despite the fact that nothing was connected to the phone's dock connector. Sometimes it would appear every few minutes. Then he'd go a day without seeing it. Now it has stopped appearing altogether. I urged him to do a restore on the phone, so he connected it to his MacBook and...nothing. The iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes, nor will it charge with the USB cable. It will, however, charge with an iPod FireWire adapter.
Needless to say, he's frustrated, not to mention very disappointed with the hardware quality. Two lemons. Not good.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on with the iPhone??? Unfortunately our local Apple Store is closed until Wednesday for remodeling! Ugh.
    Thanks much!!!
FYI, my friend's MacBook Pro is running 10.4.10 with all recent software updates and patches applied.

Have you tried to reset the iphone, holding the sleep and home button together for 10 seconds?
Also, a firewire cable only charges the iphone. You will need a usb cable to sync - the usb cable does not allow for charging I think.
When opening the preference window in itunes, there should be a Sync icon, all the way to the right, when clicking on that Sync icon - I think it is the iphone icon - does the name of the iphone appear in the window?

  • IPhone 3GS no longer works with bluetooth since ios 4.3.2 update

Hi all. Since the ios 4.3.2 update my iPhone 3GS no longer works correctly with the bluetooth in my car (2006 Acura TL).  I know it's not an issue with the car and the only thing that has changed is the update with the phone.  Anybody else having this issue?  I have unpaired, tried to re-pair, reset the network settings, reset all of the settings, and did a restore.  I'm at a loss with what to do next.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Anyone encountered this or know any workarounds?

  • HT201442 Help! my iphone 4s device is not visible at all in itunes. There are no backups visible and I have tried everything.

Hi, I used to have an iphone 4 before it started having issues with the harddrive and now I am using an iphone4s. I have been using the newer one for a few months now...and recently back it up at end january. I wanted to back it up and transfer photos onto my computer and it said there are no files available for download and I thought this was odd. After that I opened itunes but the device isnt visible nor are all the backups. When I connect to the computer it doesnt come up automatically like it used to and it doesnt use my iphones id name....instead i have to go into my computer to find it and its listed as "Apple iPhone." Please help as I have tried everything.

While Apple may request a Pay-Per-Incident, if it is determined that your device has a hardware issue, that PPI will bewailed after troubleshooting is completed. Or, you can request that they waive that if you've already done a lot of troubleshooting.  The PPI is only for issues that a user could resolve on their own but want Apple to provide a walkthrough over the phone.  You can get free support by going to an Apple Store instead, for example, as well.

  • IPhone 3G little cracking case... Any Support, please?

    Dear Folks,
This is my third post regarding my iPhone 3G because the 2 previous ones were deleted by one Apple Moderator (I hope that this one is not because I need help, and I don't know where to find it, please).
In fact, several days ago, after take out my nice protective Belkin Black silicon cover, and take a look around the plastic bottom cover, I discovered it! I was suffering the same cracking case that other user suffered! My beloved iPhone had a hairline casing crack between the earphone jack and the silver trim!... (Although I never drop it and I treated it like a newborn) (I never took so much care with an electronic daily-use device... but I wanted to have it so shiny like the box unpacking first day).
I am in Belgium, so the only Support can be done by the local Mobile telecommunications, but they told me that this kind of defect is not covered by the Apple iPhone 3G Warranty because none kind of Plastic Breakages are not covered, then they ignore me,... but I need to put in contact with Apple Customer Support, please.
Do you know how I can put in contact Apple Support to receive some help for my in Warraty Time period iPhone 3G, please?
    Thanks by your help.
    Best regards.
P.D. I know that the Apple employees read and manage this forum,... so, Could you show me the way, please?

    1) Why I cannot reach Apple for this issue with my mobile phone, if for an iPod Touch I can trough their web directly?
No one here can answer Apple's policy directly. Terms of use forbid us on the right to guess it, and the vast majority of posters don't have any direct affiliation with Apple. If you don't like it, you can always post feedback here:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/feedback.html
    2) Why I have to pass through MOBISTAR (Belgium) and I cannot contact directly with Apple? This is damaging the image of Apple, which is more shiny and worldwide than MOBISTAR.
The government likely has certain agreements with certain phone carriers who can contract the airwaves. That's the way it is here. Unfortunately it has allowed monopolies to develop, and create untenable situations for the consumers. When certain monopolies contract out their phone service, they end up picking the manufacturers who they think will give the best contract for the carrier, regardless of how the consumer squelches.
    3) How many users suffer this issue without complaints thinking that is their fault when it is not?
That's impossible to tell. Apple does not publish lemon figures, and certainly it is hard to tell how much of it is due to abuse by users, and how much is design defect, because many consumers go out there and blame Apple when they've let their dogs eat their phones. I'm not saying that you did, but those not careful with their phones are creating a situation where others have to pay. This is why there are insurance companies for cell phones separate of the warranty.

  • Very Disappointed in Verizon Tech Support re: iPhone Visual Voicemail

I receive a new iPhone 4S with no voicemail capabilities. I take it into the Verizon store and they are nice enough to call tech support with me and do a restore and all of that. Tech support says my phone is "a lemon" and I have to go into Apple and get a new one and that they would give me one for free, no big deal. Okay, no big deal.
So I go into Apple and get a new phone, but it's *not* free. It's $162. Fine. I need voicemail. No big deal (this time with gritted teeth).
I pay the $162 and get the new phone and activate it. Still no voicemail!
So the Apple genius calls Verizon Tech Support. Nobody knows what's going on. We work our way up the chain and finally get someone who fixes the problem which is an issue with Verizon's network.
So I'm out $162. I have a new phone I did not need and I wasted about 2 hours solving an issue that took less than 2 minutes to actually fix.
I realize that everyone is human. I'm trying to decide whether to let it go or to pursue some some of compensation. I'm guessing that's futile as I have no record of anything.
To make this more useful than just a kvetch:  VISUAL VOICEMAIL is a NETWORK ISSUE with Verizon and has absolutely nothing to do with the device itself. Just in case you find yourself with the same problem.
And out of curiosity, has anyone else had this problem?

It's NOT Verizon....  You are talking about the iPhone which runs a different system than what Verizon offers for Android and other devices.  You need to contact Apple to fix your issue.  Apple uses their own servers for their iPhones which are owned, run, and maintained by them.  They offer the service for "free" to get people locked into their ecosystem.
