IPod Shuffle not recognized by windows 8 but is by Windows 7

iPod Shuffle not recognised by WIN 8 but is by WIN7
When connected via iTunes iPod Shuffle charge light does not come on and WIN8 Control Panel Hardware status indicates a problem with the iPod. WIN8 troubleshooting results in the following message:
Windows is uninstalling this device. (Code 21).
No such problems exist when iPod is connected in WIN7 via iTunes i.e. charge light came on and the device was recognised OK by WIN7Control Panel Hardware status.
Is there any fix to make WIN8 behave OK like WIN7 for iPod Shuffle?

first try reinstalling itunes on 8, also have all your files been moved over to win8 or maybe try restoring the shuffle

  • 6th gen ipod nano not recognized by itunes on my PC (Windows 7). tried everything to fix, but still not working... please help

I have a 6th gen ipod nano that is not recognized by itunes on my PC (Windows 7). I get an error that it 'could not be identified properly'. I have tried all tips on the apple site to correct the problem, including unistalling and reinstalling itunes twice. Nothing works. Has anyone tried something that worked that is not part of the Apple support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218)? Thank you in advance for any help!

I have spent 3 days messing with my pc and have made no real progress.
Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty.  Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized in windows 7

I bought a new 2gb ipod shuffle 4th gen on friday, as my 120gb classic was stolen, and i have been having massive problems with it. Whenever I attach it to the USB port (tried in all 4) it only comes up with a box in the bottom right of windows saying "USB Device Not Recognized", and then nothing at all happens in itunes (which is up to date). To say I have taken it out of the USB port and put it back in 200 times would not be an exaggeration. After about 10 minutes, it was suddenly recognized and I managed to put a few songs from my itunes onto it, but then it got disconnected, and it was never recognized by the computer again. As I only managed to put a fraction of the songs I want on it, it is annoying that it won't work.
The ipod shuffle plays completely fine, I can listen to the songs I DID manage to put on it. I have also tried everything on another computer with itunes and the same thing happened. Every other USB device I own has worked on it, and I have unplugged everything to see if or not it conflicts, and it makes no difference with the shuffle. As the shuffle plays fine, I can only imagine it being a problem with the cable, but for a brief time it worked in itunes perfectly, so I am unsure.
Any help would be massively appreciated. but at this rate I will be taking it back to argos.
I have tried practically everything in all the support and troubleshooting guides, tried using the shuffle in 2 seperate computers, and the shuffle is most definitely plugged in all the way!

  • IPod Shuffle Not Recognized In Windows Or iTunes v7.0 - What Now?

    Hello everyone,
I am having the same problem as many who have posted here. I have upgraded my software to iTunes v7.0.1.8. I also accepted the auto update for my iPod Shuffle - 512GB 1st Gen to v 1.44 (I believe). Of course, now my Shuffle is not recognized in iTunes and is only recognized in Windows for less than 5 seconds (as I have monitored it). I am listing below all of the actions I have taken today.
As none of these have worked, my question is now what? Does anyone have any other suggestions before I take the dreaded step of calling support? Any help is appreciated.
I am not happy with this upgrade issue at all. I expect much better from Apple.
    Steps Already Taken:
    1. Reset iPod.
    2. Set Terminal Services to "Manual" and restarted my laptop PC.
    3. Changed all USB Root Hub entries power management options to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option" and rebooted.
    4. Assigned my external hard drive a different letter as it was assigned to "E" and tech support documentation suggested I changed it - I changed it to "M".
    5. I stopped the iPod Service via the Services and Application interface from My Computer/Manage, reattached the Shuffle, and started the iPod Service. The Shuffle was still not recognized.
    6. I uninstalled iTunes 7.0.1.8, the Apple Software update and QuickTime. I deleted all temp directories; program files folders and all possible traces of all three pieces of this software. I also deleted my iTunes library. I reinstalled all of this software and re-built my Library. NONE OF THIS WORKED!
My 30GB Video iPod works fine and always has - it is only the shuffle for which I have this issue any only since the upgrade.
What do I do now? If no one has another fix, I will be forced to call Tech Support after an experience with them over a year ago I would almost rather throw this thing away!

qswh - I too cannot play the songs that are loaded on the shuffle. Additionally, I get a green & orange light when I plug it into a USB port and then I either get a blinking orange light or a solid orange light from there after.

  • IPOD shuffle not recognized by Windows/Itunes - download installation SW

I have used a 2G Ipod shuffle successfully on one Dell Windows XP PC for over one year. Have Itunes 7.02 on an identical Dell PC. Plugged shuffle into usb port(s)on second PC - shuffle light turns green momentarily and then off. Shuffle recognized by neither Windows nor Itunes. Went thru the various fixes in apple ipod support to no avail. One suggested fix was to reinstall the IPOD software from the CD that came with the shuffle. Unfortunately, I cannot find the CD and find a link on the apple website to download the corresponding software.
    Suggestions?

I have a solution, derived after some 16 hours of
messing about with the shuffle, reading and
re-reading the forum posts, trying to get my PC to
recognize it, and hold the USB connection without the
old Malfunction bubble ... my advice is free ... take
the shuffle back! I swapped for a 2G Nano, and
within 5 minutes I was off and away! Go Apple GO!
The highly experienced sounding tech at the store
    was also at a loss.
If you read the OP's plaint carefully you'd have noticed what's being talked about is a Shuffle that's over a year old... Thus, unless OP has AppleCare, taking it back is not an option.

  • My ipod is not recognized by iTunes (but recognized by Windows)

    Hi everyone,
I have bought a new ipod 30G 5th Generation. Initially, I have a 4G ipod and an itunes installed on my computer. I have updraged my itunes to v7 and pluged my new ipod 5G to my compuer. I can see the ipod on My Computer as a removable disk but iTunes don't recognize the ipod and don't have it on the Device list.
Since I'm on iTunes v7, I have run the diagnostic module and in the log file I have this:
    Connected Device Information
MONIPOD (F:\), iPod with video running firmware version 1.2.1
    Serial Number: 8N644RUDV9M
    Bus Speed: 61440
The last connected iPod serial number: 4J527R2GTDS.
It seems that iTunes is recognizing that I had a previous ipod. Does anyone know if Itunes is not recognizing my new ipod because another ipod was already registered on my computer ?
    Thank you.

  • IPod shuffle not recognized by pc (windows 7)

I found my old iPod shuffle (A1112, 512 MB). It still works (turns on and plays music). The only issue I have is I can't get my pc or iTunes to recognize it. I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit. I have updated to the latest iTunes version (10.6.1.7). When I connect it to my PC it just blinks it's orange light and I get a pop-up saying that the device was not recognized. Any help?

Is your iTunes and PC update to date?  Do you have any other USB devices connected to your PC?
If you open up Device Manager, (click Start, right->click on Computer and choose Manage), you should see a list of devices on your system. Do you see any entry related to your iPod, perhaps even an entry with an exclamation point next to it listed anywhere?

  • IPod Nano not recognized in iTunes but as hd in windows

So after running all the so called fixes on this article:
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
We are still not able to get this thing recognized by iTunes. My wife's 4g mini works fine, as well as my 80g 5g. I'm just thinking that this is a hardware issue. My buddy at an unnamed large chain retailer has had 12 of the 2nd gen Nanos come back to his store in the last week for the same issue Will not sync up in windows). Apple needs to get on the ball and get this fixed. My wife is ready to return it and wait for the Zune to come out, but i convinced her to wait to see what we get here.

just turn on terminal services like in:

  • Ipod not recognized in itunes but is in windows

okay, what should i do here, i followed all the steps in the article on this on the support site, i reinstalled, disabled conflicting processes, every step in that article about if my ipod is recognized by windows but not itunes, what should i do now??? cuz i'm baffled, my ipod is flashing do not disconnect, and has the spinning icon in the top left corner indicating that it is doing something, is there anything i should do to get it recognized in itunes?

Hi, I kind of have a similar problem. I have two Ipods. One is an Ipod video and the other is a 4GB ipod nano. And i'm having problems with the nano. My girlfriend once disconnected while it was playing on itunes. Since then i haven't been able to get it to work. I've tried everything. Windows won't recognize it and neither does Itunes or the updater. When I open the updater it says initializing and it freezes. Itunes wont read it at all, and windows, well when i go to "safely remove hardware" it comes up there it says "Apple Ipod USB devie". I'm not sure if its recognizing it at all. But it wont disconnect it. The nano itself works fine! Well actually when she disconnected it the nano wouldn't turn off. Until i connected back to the computer and restored it. And thats when it wouldnt' come up on my PC. If anyone can please help me, or has had the same problem and worked around it, any advice will be greatly appreciated . . .thanks

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized but charges

I have an IPod shuffle 4th gen and when plug it in,  it charges but it not recognized by my computer or Itunes. The cable i used is new however, this problem has not occured previously.
When i connect it, it does come up with the orange light. It still plays music but i can't sync it with my itunes

This problem started when you started using your new USB docking cable?  If it worked before with you old cable, and does not now with the new cable, and nothing else changed in your computer's setup, such as new USB devices or connecting through a USB hub, then the cause is likely to be the cable.  The connector has separate points of contact for data and power, so it is possible for it to charge while not connecting for data.

  • Ipod Shuffle not recognized by computer and iTunes and does not charge

I connected my iPod to my computer but for some reason, it is not recognized at all by the computer nor iTunes. It doesn't charge either. I have tried all the USB ports and since I have Windows Vista, I cannot use the Restore Utility thingy. I purchased my iPod about 2 years ago so a warranty replacement is out of the question. Since any choices have been kicked off, can anyone find a solution to my problem? TYVM pl0x

  • IPod Shuffle not recognized on Mac or PC - Help!

So a freind of mine asked me to fix his iPod shuffle. He tried to fix it himself by plugging it into his Windoze PC and formatting it like a hard drive. I explained to him that it probably wasn't a great idea but at any rate, here we are.
I have access to a Mac Mini, and a PC both with the latest version of iTunes and the iPod Updater.
When I plug the iPod shuffle into either the Mac or the PC, it does not show up at all. It does show up in the Device manager of Windows as a Disk Drive but it's not accessible. It proceeds to peg the CPU at 100% and thoroughly bog down the PC. When I plug it into the Mac Mini, and run the iPod Updater, it tells me to "Plug in an iPod to update it." Problem is, the iPod is plugged in. This happens both on Windows and PC when I run the iPod updater.
Does anybody have any idea on what I should do to fix the iPod? I must admit, I've only had the Mac Mini for 1 day and my previous experience with the Mac OS was OS 8.6 on a 6400 so be nice :P.
    Thanks in advance,
    ...tom

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized in iTunes

When I connect my iPod shuffle to my computer, it is recognized as a device (I can safely remove it under "safely remove hardware") yet it is not recognized as a drive. Also, it is not recognized by iTunes and therefore does not appear on the source list.
I am not having any of these problems with my iPod nano which I have tested after having the problems with the shuffle - I have the most current version of iTunes loaded and I am connecting the ipod through a high-speed USB port.
I am unable to restore the ipod software because it does not appear in my iTunes. Currently all of the songs I had on the shuffle the last time I was able to successfully connect it are still there so the shuffle isn't broken completely.
I have read through all of the applicable troubleshooting documents and none seem to specifically apply to my situation (i.e. it is being recognized by the computer as being connected but not as a storage device, etc...)
What should I do? Please help!
    Thank you!
    IBM   Windows XP

Not sure exactly what you mean but here's a shot.
    - Connect shuffle to computer, "safely remove hardware" icon in system tray has it under "USB Mass Storage Device"
    - When I double click on "USB Mass Storage Device" there is an option to stop "Apple iPod USB Device"
I only know this b/c that's the only way I can disconnect it safely since I can't eject it from iTunes.
What I meant by it not being recognized as a drive is that when I connect my other ipod, it brings up a window for "drive E" in windows explorer as well as populates the nano in the source list within iTunes. This does not happen with my shuffle.
    Does that make sense?

  • 2nd gen iPod shuffle not recognized by Yosemite or iTunes 12

I just connected my iPod shuffle (2nd gen) into my macbook for the first time since the update to Yosemite and iTunes 12.  Right when it's plugged in the iPod only blinks orange three times, then doesn't blink or light up again.  It doesn't show up in iTunes or in the finder.  It also doesn't show up in the USB devices on the system report.  It charges when plugged into a wall-USB charger, but isn't recognized at all by the mac.  Also, I'm using the factory mini-dock that came with it, which I believe to be in perfect working condition.
I know they're cheap, but I've ran thousands of miles with it and I've grown attached to it.  I've spent more time with it than most of my friends...
I'm afraid the new ones might not be as amazing as this one.
Although it is still useable, I really need some fresh music on there as my runs are beginning to get boring.
It has always connected fine with no issue, which leads me to believe its a Yosemite issue (maybe apple is trying to weed out the old iPod fossils still roaming about).  But, it may just be a coincidence that it stopped working just after the update. ...Maybe my iPod is just toast.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Late 2009 Mac mini running Mavericks and iTunes 12. When I connected my 2nd generation iPod shuffle it would blink amber once then do nothing. This seems to be a common problem with the iPod shuffle and newer versions of Mac OS X (10.6 and up) and iTunes albeit with somewhat varying symptoms but the same overall problem syncing the iPod with iTunes.
The predominant go-to solution is to give the iPod more power by either connecting the iPod directly to a USB port on the Mac or by disconnecting all other USB devices. On paper this makes sense.
What worked for me, however, was the opposite. After trying to solve this problem for hours (weeks, months), I had success ONLY after adding a low-powered 4-port USB hub to the chain between the iPod and the Mac. I suspect this had the effect of throttling the power supplied to the iPod from the Mac. I was able to perform a restore on the iPod then sync my music over.
I can't tell you much about the USB hub except that it is running at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mb/sec). In theory a USB 1.1 extension cable should also do the trick. You might even be able to use the USB hub in old wired Apple USB keyboard. I will attach a photo of the hub I used to this post for greater clarity.
    I really hope this helps.
