Is JavaFX 2.2.2 going to be part of JRE7u8?

Hi guys,
It's great that we have JavaFX finally integrated into the JRE starting from JRE7u6. JavaFX 2.2 fixed a lot of issues and is a great step forward. However there is still a bunch of bugs that didn't make it into 2.2 and are targeted/approved for 2.2.2:
http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?reset=true&jqlQuery=labels+%3D+222-approved
So I was wondering is JavaFX 2.2.2 going to be part of JRE7u8, available here: http://jdk7.java.net/download.html ?

Yes. JavaFX 2.2.2 is the version of JavaFX that will be included in Java SE 7u8

  • Tired of Verizon, Going to COX part 2

I find it hard to believe that Internet only is going to be $135/month.You can go online and change services.Plus is Cox a teaser rate? If so, how long vs contract time?

    To recap,
My bundle offer expires at the end of the month, and verizon says they are raising my $65 package (which in reality is closer to $100) by another $40 a month, for the same service.
I called customer service to try and cut off my tv and phone service, and after 10 minutes of the rep repeating to herself "ok so you want to close tv and phone" was hung up on.
I tried to talk to an online rep, and after repeated attempts to dodge the question, was told that if I canceled everything but internet, and picked the slowest package offered, that my base price would go UP TO $69.99 A MONTH!!!! FOR LOWERING SERVICE!!!!!!
.Meanwhile, COX is happy to give me broadband at $39.99 a month.

  • Auto Smart Tone Going Dark For Part of Clip

    Hi,
I'm a new user of Adobe Premiere Elements. I have version 13 installed on a PC running Windows 7 32bit.
I have a problem that hopefully someone can help me with.
I have put a clip onto the timeline and then run the Auto Smart Tone and used its custom feature to brighten the clip. The problem I have is that certain parts of the clip stay dark. This happens when the video is played in the preview window and when the project is rendered and the final output played in an external player.
This clip has text overlayed in certain parts of it and further investigation has shown that the areas of the clip that are dark are some but not all of the areas with overlayed text. Furthermore when I click into the overlayed text to edit it the dark section of the clip that it is associated with the text being edited then brightens in the preview window the correct amount to match the rest of the clip on the timeline. As soon as I exit out of the text editing that section of the clip goes dark again.
If anyone can shed any light on what the problem is and how I can fix it it would be greatly appreciated. The problem may be a simple error I'm making as a result of my inexperience of using the programme.
    Many Thanks
    Gavin

    Gavin
What version of Premiere Elements are you using on your Windows 7 32 bit computer?
A just in case question....have you reset the learning preference for the Auto Smart Tone feature?
    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/autosmart.html
Please see Edit Menu/Preferences/General and the "Clean Auto Smart Tone Learning" there.
I still have not factored in your observation
when I click into the overlayed text to edit it the dark section of the clip that it is associated with the text being edited then brightens in the preview window the correct amount to match the rest of the clip on the timeline. As soon as I exit out of the text editing that section of the clip goes dark again.

  • Is Oracle committed to JavaFX?!?!

I REALLY want FX to succeed ... I am betting my company's first product on it. However, I am beginning to question if Oracle is really interested in it. When I search on the web, many of the links are broken. Much of the available documentation is inaccurate or out of date (refers to an older version). The Wiki (wikis.sun) is so slow that I timeout before the page ever shows up. The widget set is lacking. I am constantly finding bugs, and when I tried to sign up to be able to post bugs at JIRA I discovered that the 'Affects/Version' field only goes up to 1.2.1 ... we are at 1.3 now. Is that even the right site anymore?
So - I need to know if Oracle is really serious about this. I am investing my entire life savings in my start-up company and I intended to go straight-Sun with the implementation (MySql, Glassfish, JavaFX) ... did I make a mistake? Do I switch horses or stay the course?
Thanks ... this is a serious inquiry so please only serious responses.

I'm trying to make the opposite decision right now. I had been planning to use Flex for the UI of my first project and now I'm considering a switch to JavaFX. The grass is always greener I suppose :-)
Things like a lack of widgets don't bother me too much. Take the lack of a table / data grid widget as an example. Judging by the ListCell implementation in 1.3 ([http://fxexperience.com/2010/04/new-to-javafx-1-3-cells/]) the table widget that ends up in JavaFX is most likely going to be easy to use, flexible and efficient. It's a component that I think is very important and I don't mind (patiently) waiting for a robust implementation.
As far as documentation, I think most of the new(ish) RIA technologies have a similar problem. I had the same issue with Flex. It annoys me a bit. Really, if you're posting an example on the internet how hard is it to preface it with a little version information? I was quite happy to see the tutorials section of javafx.com including version numbers. It (javafx.com tutorials) could evolve into an extremely valuable resource for developers.
Some of the other non-technical things really frustrate me though.
Licensing is at the top of my list of annoyances. There's no way I can develop a serious application without being allowed to redistribute the JavaFX runtime. What happens when Oracle pushes out version 1.4 of the runtime? It's the equivalent of randomly upgrading a third party library my application depends on without doing any testing. It's the major issue that's keeping me from switching to JavaFX right now. The thing that scares me is that, from my perspective, it should be a matter of when we'll be allowed to redistribute the runtime, not a matter of if we'll be allowed to.
I have a tendency to conjure up worst case scenarios, so, in my mind, there's someone within Oracle involved with the licensing that's holding things up because they think they need to have total control over the platform. I honestly have no idea how things work at a company as big as Oracle though. I simply can't understand why there's never been any decent feedback about whether or not we'll eventually be able to redistribute the runtime.
No matter how good the technology gets (in my opinion it's already very good) restrictive licensing is going to stifle adoption.
Second on my list is of annoyances is an apparent lack of interest in things that could improve adoption of JavaFX. Take Maven support as an example. The JIRA says there was a working implementation nearly 4 months ago ([http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/JFXC-3041]), but nothing ever happened with it. What the hell? To date I've seen four different Maven implementations; m2-javafxc, jfrog, fest and the one in the JIRA issue I linked.
That's four developers with the ability and ambition to create Maven plugins for JavaFX. By the looks of it the one in the JIRA issue I linked could have become the official implementation and everyone interested in Maven support could have started consolidating their efforts. The guy even offered to try to get it hosted in a repository that syncs to Maven central. If Oracle is committing so much to JavaFX, why does something that can add value to the platform and is already implemented get ignored?
My last major complaint is about deployment. Even though it's improving, I'm still not impressed. There are too many points of failure:
    1) dl.javafx.com not accessible
    2) .jnlp file missing
    3) code signing problems
    4) missing .jar files
I know some of those are unavoidable and are the responsibility of the developer / deployer. The thing that annoys me is the lack of decent error handling in the applet. Who thought a *3 minute* timeout was reasonable for getting a .jnlp file? I made a nerd rage post with some applet complaints a few weeks ago, so I won't re-iterate it here.
As a minor API complaint I don't care for the navigation. I hate clicking on a package on the left, getting scrolled back up to the top of the page and having to scroll back down to select a class.
Back to the original question, there's been a few occasions where Oracle's confirmed their commitment to JavaFX. I actually have my own little theory they bought Sun because getting a Java solution on the client side (desktop, mobile, etc) is so important for them that they couldn't leave it up to chance. Keep in mind, that's 100% speculation on my part.
Since I'm worried about the same issues as you, I've always developed with the assumption that I may want to switch UI technologies at some point. I've put more emphasis on the server side than I have on the client side (UI) up until now. I make an effort to implement as much logic as possible on the server and keep the communication / data transfer platform neutral (ie: JSON or XML via HTTP).
Another thing that's impossible to ignore is Java. If I can't do something I want in (for example) Flex, there aren't many options. With JavaFX I at least have the option of implementing something in plain old Java (ie: Swing) if I really get stuck. It's something that's tough to ignore if you've got a good handle on Java.
I also have the attitude that as long as I can create version 1.0 of my software and start making money using an existing platform (JavaFX or Flex), that's all I need for now. I switched from Swing to Flex about eight months. In hindsight I feel like I may have been better off staying the course with Swing and getting a product out the door. Flex hasn't increased my productivity enough to make up for the time I spent learning it, integrating it into my development process, etc.
Think of it this way... if you're proficient in Java and JavaFX, how many bugs can you work around and how many custom widgets can you create in the time it would take you to become equally proficient with a competing technology?
Part of the reason I'm thinking of switching to JavaFX is because I think it's eventually going to hit a point where it goes from being the underdog in the RIA space to being the best technology in the RIA space. The JavaFX developers have done lots of things very well that don't get much attention. For example, coalesced layouts and lazy binding. Up until now there seems to have been a lot of emphasis on creating a solid foundation. IMO that's a good thing and will eventually pay off.
I'm curious, what would you build your UI with if you decided to ditch JavaFX?

  • JavaFX 2.2 release date??

Can somebody let me know when JavaFX 2.2 is going to be released?
Also it shall be helpful if somebody can state the modifications (at high-level) in JavaFX 2.2 from 2.1.

Can somebody let me know when JavaFX 2.2 is going to be released? 2.2 is feature complete, there are still a bunch of QA to be done and issues which need to be fixed.
Roadmap would put it going GA a couple of months out (by non-expert, outsider, eyeball estimate).

Also it shall be helpful if somebody can state the modifications (at high-level) in JavaFX 2.2 from 2.1.More low level than high level, but I'll let you work out the high level things from the list of features which have been implemented (closed as fixed) for 2.2 from the (public) jira.

JavaFX Script has been deprecated, no? Visage is taking the place of JavaFX Script?

The javafx library is now going to be opensourced and the advantage of opensource is taken by Visage. Which will be come on implementation after beta release of Javafx 2.0. Visage is going on process for making Javafx script more powerful.

  • Since going to the store doesnt seem to work....

Hello all. I really didn't want to have to take my displeasure to this kind of forum, but it seems that there aren't any "contact us" or support area emails. I have been a paying member of my parents friends and family plan for 8 years. I always had phones that were for strictly calls before texting came along. Then I adapted to texting on a phone. Needless to say my prior phone was a GZ Commando. Purchasing a "smartphone" is an investment. Unlike those who can fork out good money on the latest and greatest phones, I don't have such luxury. I coughed up $400+ on a 32 GB IPhone4, and quite a bit more in accessories. I came in a few days later with questions about the phone since I wasn't aware of how it physically works, as far as tips, shortcuts, and what the phone was actually capable of. I had interests of a phone with a battery life that could last a 12 hour period with periodic texting, music and a newspaper app, or maybe some other game. A representative was taking care of me and giving me other options while another representitive tells me that the IPhone isn't really user friendly and didnt recommend it unless I have had a smartphone. While there I asked what would be the most relevant and least likely to be outdated for a while. A conclussion was made, and they had sold me the equally priced Droid Charge and the $35 restock fee to go with it.
Not only does the Charge have a horrible battery life, drop calls, completely lose "data accessibility", freeze, restart and randomly open programs, but it also likes to have a mind of its own and rifle through pages and either call some of my direct contact links or other battery depleting things.
I have taken the phone in on multiple occassions because of one issue or another and was always given one excuse after another as to why random things would happen, most of the time it was my fault, or I dont "reset" the phone enough, and really nothing was answered in terms of why I have no data coverage for days at a time when Buffalo was just "blessed" with 4G LTE, something this phone is capable of, but I have yet to get it working on my phone
I was lied to on pretty much all facets pertaining both kinds of phone ("Droid" and IPhone). The battery life (IPhone is superior), the security of the network (IPhone is superior), connectivity to my home computer (I still am not able to sync my computer to my Charge for some reason), and other issues.
Oh, and my phone was outdated in a week by the Bionic, then the IPhone 4S and recently the Stratosphere.
I have gone in lately with 3 seperate chargers. 1 was a "eco-green" one I spent $30 something dollars on. The other from my purchased phone and the other from a friend. 2 of the 3 are fried with the one coming with my Charge, almost starting a fire. Excuses were made as to why they couldn't be returned, and I was sent on my way once again.
With the way the Better Business Bureau works, and Verizon no longer being number 1 in our "market", the way my money was spent for me, and not by me, is a key reason as to why for many.
Think about it, a family that has been with your company as long as mine has spent tens of thousands of dollars, back to when there was a corded phone in our truck and the Zach Morris phone, prior to Verizon even owning the company. Loyalty is something rarely found in todays time and place, even less so in the grab bag of incentive laiden phone salesmen who will talk parents into spending outrageous money on a tablet device because of their kids pressure and the hidden gem of the salesman getting one for free after selling 5 of them. And yes, I talked to the rep about his "awesome incentives". That's fine and dandy, but when it came to getting some sort of q&a session about ways to handle my problems it always ended up with me shelling out more money, or leaving empty handed.
All I want, simply, is to have a phone that meets my needs, and wont be irrelevant technology wise in the next few months. Selling me a phone that divebombed to half price in a months time and charging me fees after talking me into a different phone is a slap in the face. There has to be someone from Verizon, that can make me not feel ripped off (The price paid for the phone, is what it should be worth for a while, not a vastly depreciated value like purchasing a new car off the lot.) Follow the phone number to the bill and look up the past many years and see what I am talking about

I've attempted to do such, I feel like I call collections agents. Almost to the point that it is very uncomfortable to explain my issues as though I am a knit picky person. That isn't the point. The principle of the matter is not feeling like I had the wool pulled over my eyes. My phone number is accessible via the information I initially filled out. Someone could've contacted me if they took the time to read my issues and had a real, viable way to handle the problem at hand. I wish a Verizon worker would read into my dilemma and attempt to rectify it. I have read that the Charge isn't a bad phone at all. But for what I asked for, and the amount of money I spent, I am kind of at a loss. And btw, who sells a phone with an HDMI jack on the side, but dont include a cord with it? Sounds like going to a parts place to buy headlights only to have some schmuck sell you dielectric grease for your headlights when most people have this stuff at home, trunk or garage just under a different name.

  • Lines Going Across Monitor of iMac?

    Hello,
I bought my iMac 3 Years Ago - iMac (24-inch Early 2008) - but within the last year I have begum to notice "lines" or "tears" going horizontally across parts of the screen. They show the colour of the screen, but can still be seen. They are seen most easily on Colours.
I've Attached some pictures, with a green box showing the lines.
Obviously my computer is way out of warenty (i didnt get Applecare) - is it worth going to an Apple Store and Asking about this? It is simply a Display fault or can it be fixed another way? I've had to have a few hardrives replaced in my machine by apple so They might give a free repair due to the previous history of the machine needing repairs.
    Any Suggestions?

In the US, Apple computers are guaranteed for one year -- Applecare adds additional 2 years plus free telephone support.
I would assume the warranty in the UK would be equivalent or better.

  • Where is my Hard Disk space going?

So basically, something is guzzling up HDD space. I've moved the majority of my stuff onto an external drive with just my music and apps, and fair bit of stuff in my downloads folder left. When looking through what's using up space I found, first, that iTunes U was using up about 56GB of space. I deleted that and despite doing so, the free space on my HDD never appeared, as though I hadn't deleted it. Further inspection found an invisible folder in my users folder was using up over 250GB of space. I discovered that this was actually my Library, more specifically a folder inside called MobileSync was using up nearly 200GB of space. I deleted some of the old back ups, but the space never showed up as being cleared.
Now here goes the weirdest part. Space just disappears even when I'm not using it. It's keeps shrinking, and going to 0MBs left. If I do manage to clear some stuff off, it never goes more than 5GBs free. But then if I leave it, it'll go shrink. I was using it for an hour or so trying to get rid of stuff, trying things like OmniDiskSweep and Disk Inventory X even DiskWave. None of them did anything, but in that time it shrunk to just over 1GB free. I've not been using it for for about another hour and it's shrunk even more, it's now down to 353MBs free.  I've tried to fix it by delete iAntivirus as research shows that it could be the problem, but it's still persistent. I'm just lost for what could be going on, and how to fix it.
It's just so bizarre that it's using up space even when I'm not using it.

  • Creative, your shoddy software/firmware has ruined my MP3 player, what are you going to do about

After looking through the vairous bits on this website regarding vista compatability and the Zen xtra, it appeared that i needed to upgrade the firmware to the plays for sure system.
All seemd to be going well, until part way through the 'upgrade' i got a pop up message asking me if i want to transfer files sing windows media player or take no action, then my Zen booted into the rescue mode.
where it has been stuck ever since, a re-boot of the zen results in the firmware error message, and all the other options dont make a difference.
If i try and run the formware update again, it gets as far as the language selection, then says that the player is not conected, despite the fact that it is conected via USB.
I downloaded the firmware update in good faith after carefuly reading through the various bits of support information about vista support ( ie requires play for sure firmware for nati've MTP support) and now im left with somehting that can either display Firmware error or REscue mode.
There fore i expect you ( creative) to be able to provide a fix.

  • F10 key and focus lost

When I press the F10 key in Windows on a JavaFX program the focus goes to the titleBar, you can see it if you press Return later. Is there any way to disable this functionality?, I use keyboard accelerators and F10 key can't be used because of this behaviour.
    Thanks in advance

I know that it's the default behaviour that's way I discover where was the focus after pressing F10. I have changed my keyboard accelerators to not use F10 key but if it's pressed the focus goes to the title bar (if you don't have a menu) and in my case, I use an undecorated window so is more difficult to see it. If you press return key after F10 you will get the window menu popup.
It will be great to be able to control this...

  • Too many touch points reported: Bug ?

    Dear JavaFX community
Following situation. I have a touch handler who recognizes special gestures and fires javafx.GestureEvent derivates on positive detection. the gesture event carries a list of cloned touch points for carrying the touches on start and end of the gesture.
Now if a listener to this GestureEvents fails for whatever reason with an uncaught exception, JavaFX touch point handling goes awry by constantly throwing RuntimeExceptions: "Too many touch points reported". From that point, the touch application is not usable anymore and must be restarted.
If the listener completes without error, the app continues to work as expected.
Firing the GestureEvent in a Platform.runLater seemed to help, but I experienced the problem at least once. The problem is not reproducable reliably though.
I believe this to be a bug in JavaFX.
    Any thoughts/hints/comments on this?
See the stacktraces below. The first NPE trace is my deliberately provoked exception. The second trace arises upon every single subsequent touch event

Yes, this is a bug in FX. I filed it as RT-34602. As a workaround it would probably be best to catch the exceptions.

  • K8t neo2-FIR lock ups

hey i'm posting for my friend who recently got a new setup for his computer
    antec 400W power supply
    3200+
    k8t neo2-FIR
    sapphire radeon 9600XT
    512 meg major brand ram
    2 80 gig harddrives
    onboard sound/lan
i'm not too sure of the psu specs
the computer (with latest driver updates) has a tendency of locking up where the screen will just go black at random periods
no matter the situation and we will have to restart it (we tried in optimizeed bios settings and default)
the computer when i was there ran fine in video games except for the locking up part
i'm not sure what the problem is nor does my friend any help is appreciated

Run Memtest86 and find out which RAM models he uses. Likely as not it is going to be part of the issue. See if you can read the lable on that PSU as well and find out how many amps are on the 12v rail.

  • IF CONDITION IN SMARTFORM.

    Hello all,
Just facing a small problem in smart form.
The code goes as follows ::
    PLANT: &GRLABEL-WERKS&
/* Codes works fine. Displayed correctly.
    /: IF &GRLABEL-WERKS& = '01'
    Inside IF
    /: ELSE
    Outside IF
    /: Endif
The problem is in if condition. Its going in else part even if first condition is satisfied.
Is ht ere any problem in hte code or anything?? I am not getting a way out.
    Please help me.

    /:PROTECT
    WBS ELEMENT: &W_GRLABEL-PS_PSP_PNR&
    PLANT: &W_GRLABEL-WERKS& //
    /: IF &W_GRLABEL-WERKS& = '6001'
    INSIDE IF
    /: ELSE
    OUTSIDE IF
    /: ENDIF
    /: ENDPROTECT
    THE Code goes as above.
All the values are populated properly and are checked.
The values are passed from the ABAP Code to smartform using a  structure.
All is fine but the IF is not working.
It should either execute "If or else" but in my case its executing both.
If one condition is satisfied, it should not go in the else part but its going.
