IS the Zen Vision: M fragile and problemat

Well, first, I'd like to say that I'm new in this forum and I li've in Brazil (that's the question, you'll understand why) and this is my first post.
In the last days, I've been looking for a good media player, and I reached the conclusion of: or I buy a Zen Vision:M, or a Toshiba Gigabeat S. Both with 30GB.
But... looking for information about it, I found one specialized forum about ZEN players, and I stayed afraid of buying the ZVM because there was A LOT of topics related to the freezing of the player, returning to Creative and others problems. I stayed scared to see how many people there was with the status of: one ZEN returned and one new ZEN owned.
So, the question is: I'd like to know if the ZVM is real problematic like that, because I just can't keep sending my ZVM to Creative in the USA once a month! To transport something like this to the USA, the taxes are very expensi've. And it's totally boring, something that you have to fix and fix, or format everytime.
Please! Gi've me this information before I buy it!
I'm sure I'm not gonna drop it, or run with it, I'm gonna use all the protection necessary and plus... I'm gonna treat it very well , so I don't wanna any problems.
Thanks!

I have since sent two Zen Vision M's back to where I purchased them. Both units froze up quite frequentley. I cleaned them up and downloaded the firmware only to have them freeze up again. This happened when playing music. It would play several tracks and then just quit. I could not fast forward backup or even power it off. The only way to repair it is to depress the rebuild button. It works fine for awhile and then it happens when you least expect it. I am very disapointed in the customer service also. They suggest several repairs in an email but nothing works. I really liked the fact that this unit has an FM tuner and great color screen but it was nothing but problems for me. I can't afford to take a chance on another unit. I guess I will have to try an Ipod. The very basic thing this unit should do is play music with no interuptions. I was going to take a chance on a different model Zen but I have read many posts and it appears that there are some of the same issues with other models.

• Is there a known bug with the zen vision;m and usb internet adapt

i bought the zen m yesterday. i've down loaded it onto my pc.
audible wont sync to it. the creative firmware updater wont update it keeps saying its not connected.
Windows media player synced to it ( the only thing thats gone right so far lol )

it's not connected on a hub.
update audible still can't activate the zen, and it still keeps crashing the wireless adaptor, which inturns causes a stop error and crashes the system. i can't win =/

• Can I leave the zen vision:m plugged to the AC charger long time, one week for examp

Hello, I would like to use the zen vision as a jukebox, playing music 24 hours per day for long times (weeks for example), and I would like to know if is possible to leave it plugged to the AC constantly, using the power of the AC charger instead of the batteries. I would like to know exactly what would it happen, I mean, if the player is 00% charged, would it discharge or would it use only the AC power, or would it use the power of the batteries and when they begin to decrease the AC will charge them?
I know that usually it is not very advisable let the charger plugged due to the heat buildup, but I did it to a lot of devices before (cd players for example), and I never had a problem, I think is only a little bit excessi've way of caution.
Thank you in advance

I would not recommend it, It isn't documented but I don't think this is the intended use of the Zen Vision:M
Number one; the LCD screen would constantly be on, and is bound to burn out. Maybe not after a week, but a considerably short time compared to standard usage.
Number Two; how would the motor of the hard dri've hold up, spinning continuously. Its small, very fragile and not ment for heavy duty work is my assumption.
Number Three; As far as the battery is concerned, I don't know what would happen. I know that after the charge is complete the charging supposed to stop. But what would the effects be after never using it's Rechargable batterys can still die, and loose there lifespan when not used for a long time, and old unused batteries may leak causing some damage and maybe even an injury,
Number Four; This a "Portable" MP3 player, and is most likely logically designed, tested, and approved under specific specifications and usage. Not to mention you'd be waseting half the funtionality of the player. The Vision:M was made to be a specticle, Look, it has a touch pad and buttons that light up. It shows movies and pictures, it can record audio, play FM Radio, and sync up with Outlook. You wanna stick something like that on a shelf for weeks?
You need more of a stationary Jukebox with Hard Dri've support and MP3 functionality. I don't know where you can get one or even if they exist. But my guess that they'd be really expensi've.But on the other hand I'd feel more comforatable experiementing with a Zen Xtra. Because its bigger, studier, the battery is removable, cheaper, and it functionality is more focused on what you want to do which is just to play music.
Though even it was ment to be portable....

• Zen Vision M 30Gb and Windows 7

Hi. I have problem with my player. I installed windows 7 and zen media organizer 5. Windows and windows media player 2 detect player. If I want transfer music to my player by creative organizer, organizer writing ,,No Creative MP3 player is detected. Please connect your Mp3 player and try again". But really player is connect and i can use windows explorer to open music folder inside player.A player works as hard disk without problem. Do you know, how this problem solve? Thank you.

I know this thread is old, but I'm having this same issue. WMP2 will find it fine on my Windows 7 64-bit. When trying to use ZENCast Organizer, it will not connect. On top of that, none of the settings I set in ZENCast organizer related to the Zen Vision:M will stay set. Something to do with the use of ProgramData folder in Win 7?

• What has changed in the Playlist Creation on the Zen Vision:M compared to the older Ze

Hi, I have a Zen Micro for a year now. It works flowlessly and I have have a lot of good time with it. But yes , there ist now the Zen Vision:M (sadly :-)).
I have read that the way to create a playlist on the vision:M is somewhat different compared to the Zen Micro for example. Can somebody explain what has been changed. In the review was said that it is more advances , but it is not as friendly as it it on the older Zens.
And one more thing: is the radio reception on the vision:m really a lot better than on the Micro? ( is was said in the article I read, just can't figure out where it was...) I really anticipated to be able to listen to radio with the micro, but hier in Hamburg (Germany) I can get a relati'vely clear reception of just TWO senders (from time to time). This is the point where the Micro dissapoints (my opinion ofcourse).
Thank you!Message Edited by plam_mk on 02-04-2006 02:38 PM

Hi Wupperbayer,
Viele Gr?e
Hi guys, I will translate in a concise manner the obove writing. I aksed whether I can take a movie. convert it propely and play it on the player. And that is not all: I just want to get most of the information from the picture as I do it on he PC, read very good quality. I have also hoped, that the possibility to add a song to every playlist, not just the one that is being played, would become a reality. But one very important thing however, is that the radio reception have been improved.

• Problems with the Zen Vision:M 6

I'm experiencing a lot hangs and lockups with my Zen Vision:M 60GB,
the newest firmware that is viable for the Zen Vision:M 60GB already
on my Zen Vision:M 60GB, firmware version .2.02e, sometimes the
clean up in the service mode works fine, had also a situation
that everything went so bad that it lockedup when I turned my Zen on,
had then to refresh the firmware and lost all my music on its hard dri've,
costed me hours to get everything back on it.
Please, Creative do something about these lockups bring new firmware out
that solves these problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please start supporting the Zen Vision:M 60GB again.

I use Widows XP Professional SP3 and Windows XP Professional x64 SP2 with medially .
I can't see why this matters because the problems are located at the player itself, I've got no
problems with moving files to the player or any problems with connecting the player with the computer,
I'm experiencing a lot of freezups of the firmware of the player, harddisk keeps running, it does that
till the battery is low or till I push reset, sometimes this doesn't help at all, the operating system at
the harddri've gets somehow damaged by the instability of the filesystem, reflashing the firmware helps
the. Problems appear to be a software problem with the firmware, the player went away for repairs once,
with this problem, they have checked the harddisk, harddisk was fine but the os crapped up it's self
somehow, know this because I asked them to tell me every thing what was wrong and how they solved this,
asked them also how I could fix the player myself? if it was no hardware problem.
They told me to reflash the firmware and format the dri've from the service mode out.

• Does the Zen Vision:M

Does the Zen Vision:M have the capability to play pod casts or can only Ipods play podcasts?

That wierd, I've had two Zen Vision M's and they've both came with AC?adapters. I just recently went on a vacation where I was listeing to my ZVM alot in the hotel and on the long dri'ves along the country side. Theres no way my Zen Vision would have made it a whole week if I had not had my AC adapter. If they really wanted to cut back on the freebies they could have kept that stupid pouch and those useless MP3s that come preloaded onto the player. But the AC Adapter was essentional to the functionality of the player.

• Quiestion about the Zen Vision M Tv feat

what the heck is that litle "TV" tab under VIDEOS menu in the Zen Vision M for?
please answer, meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For TV shows, Like if you had some in your WMP library, they would/should go there. Obviously no need to put emphasis on Videos, since it's obvious it's for tv related videos, and not an actual tv tuner.

• Where are all the Zen Vision

I'm looking to purchase a 2nd Zen Vision M. (The first one is dead, all I get is a Hardware Problem Icon). However I noticed two things.
. They seem to be $30 cheaper than they were in January.
2. Everywhere seems to be sold out.
Does anyone know a place to get one in San Diego, CA?
Finding one online is also a chanllenge, though I did find some at Walmart.com But are they any other places with them in stock, preferably a white one?
Why have the Zen Vision Ms been so limited everywhere?

I would like to see this answer too as I have ordered one for $280 on Amazon in white about a week and a half ago and it has not shipped yet. This isn't too long of a wait but on the page for the white creative vision m's, people have said they have been waiting for nearly a month. I think black is in supply on Amazon but I wanted a white one but if they are going to take months to be back in supply, I'll just get a black one. Amazon is also the only place where I have seen the black one in stock, all my local electronic stores are out of supply.

• What travel dock/speaker system for the Zen Vision 60gb?

Hi all, forgive me if this has been asked before, but I have just bought the Zen vision 60gb, and I would like a compatible travel dock; does anybody know which Creative dock the Zen 60gb will fit's I am not sure myself as the ones I have been looking at refer only to the Zen vision 30gb,
I intend to use it for holidays, camping etc.
Failing that, can anybody recommend a good portable speaker set up for the Zen vision 60gb?
thanks for your time guys!
cheers Dave

Any set of computer speakrs can be connected to any MP3 player. They would be far more versatile than a docking station, as the docking station becomes almost useless after the player breaks. Alternati'vely, if your husband's office computer has speakers, he could just plug the Touch into the computer (may require a software installation) and just play the music through the computer (no cash outlay at all ?.)
If you decide to go with speakers, $50 should be able to buy you a pretty decent set of amplified speakers; there is no need to go beyond a 2 speaker (stereo) system since MP3s only output in 2 channels.

• About the Zen: Vision M 30gb

im very dissapointed in the creative mp3 players. i brought one last month was inpressed with it, that it played my music well. battery good on it and the sound is great, then i thought Oooo it would be nice to get a docking station with speakers on the side.
so here i go down my elecrial shop ( currys, Argos, comet, asda) they all say fits ipods, mp3 player.i was like ok cool
So take my mp3 player with me to see if thy fit in the docking, ohhh no. none of them fit, there all FIT IPODS!!! OH **bleep** GOD (sorry about that)
even tho on the packaging it says fits all mp3, Well hellllloooo it dont, only fits ipods.
so got me mad as it be nice to have bit music in back ground playing games or chatting etc...
so i was thinking here i am wasted nearly £100 pounds on a mp3 player and no docking station with speaker that fits it..
only want a small, stylish good price, for my mp3..
would be Really good help if some one out there to help me... all the ones i've seen in the shops dont fit zen m

• Creative zen vision price, 30gb, and 6

hi all, i was just wondering how much does the zen vision: m costs ?
i am sure that the 30gb model costs like 300 $ or so !
but how much does the 60gb model costs ?
anyone knows ?
please tell !

I've been in touch with Creative support for over a week now but so far without success. Every time I download links they suggest I still can't access Creative Media Explorer, I just keep getting this error message:-
"The Creative Media Explorer that is compatible with this device is not installed. Please reinstall the application and try again"
This has included deleting all previously installed Crteati've files as well as downloading in a 'Clean Boot'. I've also rebooted my Zen Vision M.
At this rate I'll have to bin the Zen and look at an ipod:manmad:

• Data Recovery Software for the Zen Vision M

Data Recovery Software for the Zen Vision M:
Has anyone had any success recovering lost sound files from a Vision M, with software, physical repair services, or otherwise? Does anyone claim to be able to recover information from these devices?
The data recovery programs I have tried fail to recognize the dri've, since it doesn't show up in list of dri'ves for some reason (Is there a way to make this show up?). Any suggestions/ recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I lost over a year of recordings after an unexpected forced reformatting. How would one even go about finding someone for this job?
Thanks, GW

Haven't really tried the data recovery so I would like to know more about this one too.
