Is Verizon messing with users iPhones so they will upgrade?

I was having low-memory exceptions on my iphone 4 for the past 3 weeks, doing everything suggested to fix. Finally, I realized it must have been a hardware issue because refreshing my phone resulted in the same issue: apps closing, phone battery dying quickly and pages and pages of diagnostic log showing dataaccessd exceptions. I was doing nothing more than streaming pandora.
I still like this phone but if it's going to be broken, no warranty will fix it. So I figured id purchase iphone 5.
Almost the next day, my iPhone 4 suddenly works perfect again. I have the logs to prove it. I am watching the Iphone Console log now and it is not doing the same things it was doing before I purchased the Iphone 5.
Unfortunately, i'm certain people are going to think i'm crazy. But before doing that, please read your contract where Verizon explicitly states they have a right to alter the software on your phone without a notice. It's all in there (i know because my purchase session timed out because i'm one of the few who actually takes the time to read contracts - there is something else they need to fix. had to redo the whole purchase over again after verifying my CC wasn't charged already -simply because it took me 20 minutes to read the fine print).
Granted, I hate to believe they intentionally caused low memory conditions and that they might have been stupid enough to put my old phone into a working state. Maybe they fixed something on their network? But it is sort of strange and I heard from a friend of mine that the same thing happened to her except it was with Cricket.
So my question is: what does Verizon routinely alter in users phones that we may be unaware of?

It's unlikely Verizon was doing anything malicious.  The cost to a corporation the size that they are, would be enormous if they did.
More than likely, you have a real issue on your iPhone 4S and that issue is intermittent.  I have a Thunderbolt made by HTC that I bought in October 2011.  In my example, one day the touch screen works fine, then a moment or two later, it does really strange things ranging from freezing, to not allowing certain letters of the qwerty keyboard to function, to allowing the 7 screens to move back and forth, then get half way stuck between them.  If I power the phone back off, then on, I can go a whole day without any problems.  Then the next day, it acts up again.
Enjoy your new phone!

i've had black iphones in the past, and the same thing always gets messed up, the network, i will not have service what-so ever, and when my mother's iphone will be right next to me and she will have full service. Also the lock screen button/power button broke on both of my black iphones as well. i was just wondering if they would consider. Does apple have an email i could contact?

My iPhone does not always send iMessages to other iPhones who have their iMessages on. Most times I text a new contact with an iPhone first, they show up as regular text messages. How can I fix this?

Yes to receive an iMessage the recipient would need an iOS device (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and an internet connection. This is a messaging serviceprovided by Apple so the recipient does not need to check emails. If the contact does not have internet access at the time the iMessage is sent then a normal SMS through your carrier can be sent instead if you have "Send as SMS" turned on in Settings>Messages.

Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
If it does, there might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there.
You can try getting it out by connecting the headphones 5-10x or spraying compressed air into the jack.
If it doesn't say headphones or there isn't anything in there, try restarting or restoring the iPhone.

Try a new SIM from your carrier.  If that doesn't work, make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

  • How do I Help Apple Care Stop Warring with Each Other and Fix the Problem with My iPhone that They Acknowledge Creating?

How Do I Help Apple US & Apple Europe Stop Warring With Each Other And Fix The Problem They Created?
    PROBLEM
Apple will not replace, as promised, the iPhone 5 (A1429 GSM model) that they gave me in London, UK, with an iPhone 5 (A1429 CDMA model).
    BACKGROUND
My iPhone 5 (A1429 CDMA model) was purchased this year in September on an existing Verizon Wireless (VZW) line using an upgrade. The purchase took place in California and the product was picked up using Apple Personal Pickup through the Cerritos Apple Retail Store. I will refer to this phone at my "original" phone.
The original phone was taken into the Apple Store Regent Street in London, England, UK on November 15, 2012. The reason for this visit was that my original phone's camera would not focus.
The Apple Store Regent Street verified there was a hardware problem but was unable to replace the part.
The Apple Store Regent Street had me call the US AppleCare. At first they denied support, but then a supervisor, name can be provided upon request, approved the replacement of my original phone with an iPhone 5 (A1429 GSM model) as a temporary solution until I got back in the US. And approved that the GSM model would be replaced with a CDMA model when I came back to the US. I will refer to the GSM model as the "replacement". They gave me the case number --------.
The Apple Store Regent Street gave me the replacement and took the original. The first replacement did not work for reasons I do not understand. They switched out the replacement several times until they got one that worked on the T-Mobile nano SIM card that I had purchased in England, UK. Please refer to the repair IDs below to track the progression of phones given to me at the Apple Store Regent Street:
    Repair ID ----------- (Nov 15)
    Repair ID ----------- (Nov 16)
    Repair ID ----------- (Nov 16)
The following case number was either created in the UK or France between November 15 to November 24. Case number -----------
On November 19, 2012, I went to France and purchased an Orange nano SIM card. The phone would not activate like the first two repair IDs above.
On November 24, 2012, I went to the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps. The Genius told me that my CDMA phone should not have been replaced with a GSM model in the UK and that this was clearly Apple's fault. They had me call the AppleCare UK.
My issue was escalated to a tier 2 UK AppleCare agent. His contact information can be provided upon request. He gave me the case number -----------.
The UK tier 2 agent became upset when he heard that I was calling from France and that the France Apple Store or France AppleCare were not helping me. He told me that my CDMA phone should not have been replaced with a GSM model in the UK and that this was clearly Apple's fault.
The UK tier 2 agent said he was working with engineers to resolve my problem and would call me back the next day on November 25, 2012.
While at the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps, a Genius switched the phone given to from repair ID ----------- with a new one that worked with the French nano SIM card.
Also, while at the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps, I initiated a call with AppleCare US to get assistance because it seems that AppleCare UK was more upset that France was not addressing the issue rather than helping me. I have email correspondance with the AppleCare US representative.
A Genius at the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps switched the replacement with a new GSM model that worked on the French SIM card but would not work if restored, received a software update, or had the SIM card changed. This is the same temporary solution I received from the Apple Store Regent Street in the UK.
By this point, I had spent between 12-14 hours in Apple Store or on the phone with an AppleCare representative.
Upon arriving in the US, I went to my local Apple Store Brea Mall to have the replacement switched with a CDMA model. They could not support me. He told me that my CDMA phone should not have been replaced with a GSM model in the UK and that this was clearly Apple's fault. My instructions were to call AppleCare US again.
My call with AppleCare US was escalated to a Senior Advisor, name can be provided upon request, and they gave me the case number -----------. After being on the phone with him for over an hour, his instructions were to call the Apple Store Regent Street and tell them to review my latest notes. They were to process a refund for a full retail priced iPhone 5 64BG black onto my credit card so that I could use that money to buy a new iPhone 5 64GB black at the Apple Store Brea Mall to reoslve the problem.
The Apple Store Regent Street did not process my refund. He, name can be provided upon request, told me that the AppleCare US did not do a good job reviewing my case, that they were incapable of getting to the bottom of it like they were, and instructed me to call AppleCare US and tell them to review this case number and this repair id. I asked if he read the notes from the AppleCare US Senior Advisor and he would not confirm nor deny. When I offered to give him the case number he accepted but it seemed like would do no good. Our call was disconnected. When I tried calling back the stores automated system was turned on and I could not get back through.
Now I have the full retail price of an iPhone 5 64GB black CDMA on my credit card and Apple will not process the refund as they said they would.
I've, at this point, spent between 14-16 hours at Apple Stores or on the phone with AppleCare representatives, and still do not have the problem resolved.
    SOLUTION
AppleCare US and AppleCare Europe need to resolve their internal family issues without further impacting their customers.
Apple is to process a refund to my credit card for the cost of a full retail priced iPhone 5 64GB black.
    DESIRED OUTCOMES
I have an iPhone 5 (A1429 CDMA model) that works in the US on VZW as it did before I received the replacement phone in the UK.
Apple covers the cost of the solution because I did not create the problem.
Apple resolves their internal issue without costing me more time, energy, or money.
This becomes a case study for AppleCare so that future customers are not impacted like I have been by their support system.
Does anyone have recommendations for me?
    Thank you!
    <Edited by Host>

Thanks, but I've been on the phone with AppleCare US (where I am and live) and AppleCare UK. They continue bouncing me back and forth without helping resolve the problem.
Perhaps someones knows how to further escalate the issue at Apple?

  • I saw that I can order an iPhone and they will connect it to my Verizon but I have no idea what kind of package to get

I have 2 lines that the contracts are expired.  I see that I can set an appointment, have them set up the iPhone of choice to my Verizon account and it even says that they will give me any product upgrade benefits.  I find this hard to beleive.  For one of the lines i have a product upgrade of $50 (Verizon calls it New Every Two which they did away with but still offer it to people who had it and did not use it yet).  On my other line there is a $35 product upgrade.  I can't beleive that Apple would give these product upgrade rewards( the $50 for the one line and the $35 for the 2nd line)
does anybody know how to tell if someone is with a carrier like Verizon, how to figure out what kind of iPhone package I should get so Verizon can't get me for going over my ;allotted minutes, text messages, internet usage, etc.  I have never used a smartphone so I have no idea how to tell what kind of package I need for the iPhone.  anybody else know?  I saw that Sprint has a package that is "unlimited with all 4 services like text messages, internet usage, calls, etc for $99/mo.  is this still the case?  Verizon does everything they can to rip you off and charge you for going over.  I have not been able to figure out how I can tell when I am getting close to going over.  is there an app to tell this?
Any suggestions about getting this servic where apple sets it all up, teaches you how to use the phone, gives a decent warranty and offers applecare.  any other carier that would be better?  I heard that the unlimited data transfers does not mean "unlimited" but they still put an amount on the unlinites and if you go over you get docked.  I hate Verizon.

I should say before everybody else does I never learned how to type and barely learned how to write and spell so I probably should have done this some other way.  Sorry.

  • I saw that I can order an iPhone and they will connect it to my Verizon change any Verizon Settings I want, etc.

I saw while surfing that one can arrange to have the Apple Store get their new iPhone up and running uing my Verizon, which is my carrier settings, set the phone up, give some explnation on how to use it (which I need since I have never had an iPhone), and can't remember how they worded it but it said something like use the product discounts available to the customer, set the minutes, data device amounts, text,  etc.  I have no idea if they charge for this, but since everytime I look at the Verizon iPhone area the day for the next available iPhone keeps getting pushed out a month or so.  I have no idea if the New Every Two, whcih I have $50 coming from the data device line and $35 from the cell line, would also count and be given at the time of the set-up and somehow get the money back from Verizon.
I  have no idea if a Mobile Hotspot like the MIFI 4G is worth having anymore but when I got the MIFI 3G it was awesome to drive across the Statesaand hook my MBP up to the MIFI and surf no matter where I was.  Can the iPhone do this now?  Can the iPhone act as a Mobile Hotspot like the MIFI2200 3 or 4 g I had but until I got out of SLC I was always running into trouble.  Can the smartphones, especially the iPhone act as a mobile hot spot?  I heard when they first came out they were one day going to allow one to be able to I think it is called tethering from the iPhone to another device, in this situation the MBP?  anybody know if the  iPhone can be used as a mobile Hot Spot if I hook up my MPB to it somehow and use iot to surf?
    any recommendations with this service?
the URL, although I have seen it change 3 times in the last 4 months but today it isat

Since I already have a Verizon account with both lines the contract has been ovr for a year.  any recommendations on this service and if it is worth it?
thanks for your advice/recommendatons or suggestions.

  • ITunes on my phone is no longer playing some songs, even those I have purchased with my phone.  They will play fine on my pc itunes.  I also cannot remove the audio books that are on my phone and add others and the audio books on my phone will not play.

I am unable to play new songs purchased on my phone and some old songs on my ipod/iphone.  They all work fine in iTunes on my computer.  I also cannot remove the audiobooks from my phone when I sync even though I have unchecked said books, and I cannot play them either.

Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

  • With purchased music videos they will not play, an error comes up"The requested URP was not fopund on thsi server", and video doesn't play?

I ahve purchased 5 music vidoes from iTunes and they will not play on my iPhone4. The error message that appears is:
"The requested URL was not fopund on this server"
I am not sure how to fix this so I can watch my videos?

It all depends on exactly how you move the library from one machine to the other. The database holding information about your library is normally in a folder called iTunes, with the media in a subfolder called iTunes Media. In this layout you can usually copy the entire iTunes folder from one machine to the other and it will work. If the media folder is split to a new location however then often the links to tracks will fail on a new computer.
You shoud find that the FindTracks script is able to repair the links in your library.
I'm not sure I know what is going on with the purchased music, however if you enable Edit > Preferences > Store > Automatic Downloads > Music you should be able to recover your past store purchases.

  • ITunes has recently began corrupting my music library and my Podcasts. An exclamation mark has appeared at the beginning of a random number of songs and against some Podcasts with the result that they will not play on iTunes. Message is that iTunes cannot

iTunes has recently began corrupting my Music  and some of the Podcasts.  An exclamation mark appears at a random selection of songs - about a thoussanad of them - and they will not play as iTunes says that it cannot locate the file.  This also has happened on a number of Podcasts.  Any one else encountered this?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, if you are running Windows (you've posted in iTunes for Windows, but your sig mentions Mac OS X...), and as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • Is it possible to use the Apple wireless keyboard with the iPhone 6? Will the Magic Mouse work with iMovie on iPhone6 Plus?

iPhone 6 page says that iMovie is a (free) application available for iPhone 6. When I use it on the desktop I need a mouse. Should I expect all controls to be touch-sensitive, or is it possible to use the wireless Magic Mouse? Similarly, if I want to type an email or a long document, is it possible to use the Mac wireless keyboard to enter text? With the iPhone 6 Plus taking over for laptops (phablet), it seems to me that input tools are relevant. Maybe what I'm asking is whether the iPhone6 (OS8) has drivers for these devices. Please advise.

Apps that are designed for iOS devices such as the iOS version of iMovie are intended to be used entirely by touch. It's worth noting that iMovie for iOS is not absolutely identical to iMovie for Mac OS.

  • Verizon messed up my iPhone preorder and then did nothing to make it better, except waste 3 hours of our time today.

I'm seriously considering taking my line, as well as the two other lines in our family, to another carrier after our experience this week.  We've been with Verizon for years and NEVER have we had worse customer service than this past week.  First, we wait hours on the phone and on their website preordering the iPhone 6 on the release day (my current phone battery is quickly dying and we wanted to replace it as soon as possible with my upgrade).  Then the next morning, we order some accessories, but were told by a rep that we had to cancel the internet order for the accessories and phone the order in to an agent in order to get the promotion.  So, the rep goes ahead and cancels the accessories and at the same time, he cancels my iPhone 6 preorder WITHOUT TELLING ME.  This morning, I get a text saying it's cancelled, so we call up to figure out what's going on, and now the phone that we stayed up all night for (it wasn't released until 3 AM here) and was supposed to ship in a couple days won't be shipped until mid to late OCTOBER.  All because the Verizon rep couldn't figure out how to cancel an iPhone case and instead cancelled the phone.  And they were horribly rude about it and insisted there was no way to fix it and get us back our spot in line (and instead, they told us the only recourse for us is to spend all night in line at the store to see if we can get it on opening day--uh, no.  We already stayed up all night.  YOU made the mistake, not us.)  And do you think they offered anything to fix it?  Nope--their mistake makes our order delayed 6 weeks and we don't so much as get a credit on our account or anything.  Why is Verizon the most expensive cell phone service, but seems to have the absolute worst customer service out of any of the carriers we've used?  We've now spent almost 3 hours on the phone today with Verizon--most of it on hold, only to be told that they can't fix THEIR OWN MISTAKE.  I hope that mistake was worth losing a customer, because with 3 lines, that mistake could cost them nearly $4000 over the life of the contract, just because they couldn't exercise good customer service and either fix their mistake, or make it right with the customer if there was nothing they could do.
I've never been more angry at a company--not because they made a mistake, but because they were so rude and arrogant about it, and did NOTHING to try to make it right and keep us as a customer.
Is this normal for Verizon?  Am I wrong in thinking that when they  make a huge mistake like this (I mean, most people don't stay up to pre-order on release day just to be happy with an unexpected cancellation and then having to deal with the phone selling out), they should be offering a significant credit or free accessories or something in order to keep the customer?

Welcome to the club! They screwed up my account by renewing my contract last February when I lost my iPhone 5. Problem is I paid full price for the new phone so they should have not extended my contract. As my original contract was supposed to be up this month; I was preparing to order the iPhone 6 plus. 2 days prior to the pre-order I was logged in to my account to verify my eligibility and freaked when I say my phone would not be eligible until Feb 2016! I called them and told them that was incorrect as I paid full price... after spending almost 1.5 hours on the phone, they confirmed that they messed up and coded my account wrong, they acknowledged their mistake an promised me that my account would be cleared up in time for the preorder.... well one day later... nothing! So I call them again... the agent confirms the case but says she needs to verify that I paid full price for the phone. I asked why as the day before that agent said she reviewed the sales record from the Verizon store and showed that I paid full price (800.00)... I asked why does she need to do it again? So after over 2 hours on the phone (since the Verizon store was closed) she said she could not do anything as she could not get a copy of the receipt. I asked what happened the day prior, how did they do it? The agent was able to pull the receipt and confirmed me paying full price, confirmed Verizons mistake. It was like ground hog day! Except this time I did not even get the fake promise I received the day prior. So 5 hours of my life wasted.... no resolution... pathetic... Im done wasting my time trying to correct your mistake Verizon..fix it or I leave
