Is wpg_docload.download filename length restricted to 78 Characters ?

I am using the wpg_docload.download procedure successfully download files. I have encountered a problem when the FILENAME values on the content-disposition attachment tag exceeds 78 characters. Is this a true and limitation of the procedure or have I done something wrong in the construction of my call to the procedure? I have read the threads concerning the upload procedure and noticed filename length restrictions. Do these apply here also ?

Thanks for your reply. My code is very generic in its call to the procedure setting the mime type 'application/pdf' or 'application/ms-excel' and setting the attachment filename parameter. I wouldn't think the results SaveAs filename would have any restrictions in size dealing with directories since it is not allowed to specify the destination directory. My filename is pulled from the database. When I had a filename greater than 78 the wpg_docload function does not do anything or does not raise an error. This really restricts how a user can name there files. I dynamically create PDF and store them into the database using the document title as the filename for the download. However, if I have this limitation, I have to restrict how my user title there documents (or figure how to compress into meaningful titles).
I have no problem with the download functionality, just the filename length aspect. Hopefully, this can be changed or I will have to live with this limitation. Any insight helpful.
My site is on a intra-network server.

Although Logic Express has its own slickness, Vision from OpCode Systems, was, considering when it was written, so much better, at least when working with MIDI. Actually I am aware of the difficulties in creating complex software. I was a software engineer from 1959 to 1993. (Yes, there were computers in 1959.) I'm always amazed -- not to mention pleased -- when a complex interaction among input, display, output, real-time constraints, on-the-fly editing, etc works without a hiccup. The modern, metaphorical graphical interface belies the complexity underneath. It's reminiscent of the unbelievable complexity which lies just under our own visual interface aka skin.
I just wish that Apple had started with Opcode System's VISION product. Way back in OS 8, for example, one could have a display of a playing song and pull down a menu without interrupting either the display or the playing. With Logic the playing continues but the graphic display pauses. I know that this is not terribly relevant to anyone in the music business, but it would seem to reveal an old architecture forcibly fit to the new environment, and then I wonder about the things that I can't see.
Well, I probably worry too much, because Logic Express has yet to crash or corrupt any of its files. And of course my whole music studio is, except for the MIDI keyboard, on my hard disk instead of the racks of equipment I used to have.

Problem with the field length restrictions in the WSDL file

We have created a XSD file where we have defined fields and given some restrictions (like minLength, maxLength) for each field. See below one ex of one element "Id":

Here we have defined maxLength of this field as 40 chars. Our WSDL uses (refers/import) this XSD file and we ganerates java skeleton using RAD. But at runtime if we set more than 40 chars then also it is accepting. It is not throwing an exception. (In the generated java skeletion these restrictions are not reflected antwhere)
I have one question that, if such restrictions defined in the XSD file works or not? and is it a industry standard to define restriction in the XSD file?
If yes then what i need to do more to make it working?
If not then is there any way to do such validation of the fields that are input to the webservice? Or shall i have to just write my own java class to validate each field?

Or is it possible that we give length restrictions in the XSD (and import this XSD in WSDL) and generate java skeleton from WSDL then the restrictions defined in XSD are mapped into java classes?
For ex:

</xs:simpleType>so when in generated java skeleton we set value to "Id" element which is more than 40 charsthen it should throw a exception?
Is it possible by default or do we need to write custom validation classes to do validations on such fields?
Has anybody worked in such scenerios?
Or how to do field validations in webservice? Simple question.

Filename length affects Acrobat review success

When I initiate a shared Acrobat review to my company's server, the e-mailed copy doesn't always get sent via Outlook (although the "_review" PDF and associated XML folder gets saved to the server, as normal). The problem is related to the original PDF's filename. Shorter filenames work, longer ones don't. Could you please tell me the maximum filename length for successfully sending the review document automatically via the Acrobat review process?
Perhaps the length of the file path eats into this max length as well? (Our folder to contain PDF review documents is K:\Acrobat Reviews\_Engineering.)

Hi Mike,
There is no upper file name length as such. But there is an upper limit to the number of characters in the path of the comment repository. Comment repository is located at your server which you have selected to host your review. The repository folder name contains the name of the file_review.pdf along with some other characters. There is also an xml inside this which actually contains your comments. The complete path of this xml including the xml name should not be greater than 226 characters.
But if this complete path is greater than this upper limit then acrobat does not let the user initiate shared review in the first place. An error "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path." is thrown at the profile name step.
There might be some other issue as well due to which the e-mailed copy doesn't always get sent via Outlook (although the "_review" PDF and associated XML folder gets saved to the server. Could you give me some more details about the kind of server you are using and are you sending it as attachment or link? Also, where is orignal file located (local machine or server)?

Filename length

How can you increase the filename length? We create files on a pc, then can't find them on the Mac because their names are too long and it is hard to shorten them.

What OSs are the Macs running. If OS X, there shouldn't be any problem. If OS 9, there is a limit of 31 characters.
If you frequently have to transfer files between PCs & Macs, suggest you read the link below to ensure that the file names are compatible with both systems. There may be other characteristics (other than length) in the file names that are causing the read problems.

The "right click" is a function of the OS and those keyboard commands do not work on the iPad at all with the built in virtual keyboard. I don't use an external keyboard - so I cannot attest to the possibility of that working - but there are no keyboard shortcuts with the iPad keyboard.

Length restriction scan

Looking for a way to "overcome" the length restriction on the HP DesignJet t1200 MFD when scanning extremely long documents. I believe the device cannot scan a document longer than 104", but I frequently work with documents (roll plans) with lengths exceeding 20 ft. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the forum.
As John T. points out, PrE was written when YouTube had restrictions of 10 min., and then they added Extended Subscriptions, and then lifted Duration limits.
The instructions in that thread, to which John T. linked, will tell you how to Share/Publish from PrE, to then manually upload via your YouTube/Google account. I would guess that with PrE 12 (probably due in Oct. 2013?), the direct PrE to YouTube uploading will reflect the YouTube specifications - unless YouTube changes the game, after it is written.
I doubt that there will be an update for PrE, just to reflect changes in YouTube, based on the history of the limited PrE updates. IIRC, PrE 3.0 got an update for Windows Vista, which was released, just after PrE 3.0 was, and the 2 updates for PrE 8, that fixed some pretty major Bugs. I do not recall any other PrE updates.

Length restriction on literal value for constant defined declaratively

When defining a program data item which is a constant varchar2(120) - I am restricted to a default value of length 60 (about 50 short of requirements). Does any one know why this length restriction is applied. Is there an intention to remove this limitation?

1. In Forms 6i, there is a limit of 255 characters on the FORMS60_PATH. The
forms runtime crashes, if the length becomes 256 characters or more.

2. In Forms 9i/10g, the limitation is 511 characters. If FORMS90_PATH contains
512 or more characters, it is ignored. ORACLE_HOME cannot be more than 39 characters long.
3. In Forms 10.1.2, the limit has been increased, that is, FORMS_PATH length has been doubled (1024).
The new limit for ORACLE_HOME is 68 characters.

Field length restrictions

Hello,
I have a postal code field that is currently restricted to 7 characters including a space. The format is A0A0A0 and the program will automatically put the space in the middle when the user tabs over. I want the user to enter only 6 characters but If i put that restriction in, it hides one of the letters as it it counts the space as one of the 6 characters. If I change it to allow 7 characters, then the user can enter the whole 7 characters, but I only want them to enter 6 plus still allow for a space. Does this make sense?

3.1 Interactive Reports don't support Download filenames the same as before

I converted an existing report to an Interactive Report.
1. It failed to copy the Download Filename as part of the conversion (bug?).
2. Download filenames don't support items the same as before:
In 3.0 I had a filename: RMS_&P3_REGION..csv
This would substitute the value in item P3_REGION.
Now, if I put the same thing in, it tells me that file extensions are not allow.
If I take out the ".csv", I still get the same error, probably because of the period at the end of the item reference.
Is there a way to have a dynamic Download filename anymore?

ITunes: filenames are truncated to 37 characters

I downloaded podcasts from the internet with itunes. the filenames appear correctly in iTunes but on the hard drive (My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Podcasts\)
filenames are truncated to 37 characters. Any idea how to get the full filenames?
using Windows XP SP2
iTunes 6.0.5

FYI this isn't entirely benign. i've had this cause actions to OVERWRITE files without giving any warning. specifically if a batch action is done on a bunch of files with long filenames with numbers at the end. the numbers are omited and so every file has the same name and is over written as the action progresses. this would overwrite an unnumbered but same named file too.

Filename and path sizes and characters

I am failing to load 4000+ tracks to my Ipod from my XP machine using Itunes 7.50.0.20. This is an Ipod Clickwheel 20GB. I want to load 17.86GB in the now empty Ipod. However it gets so far then stops saying there is not enough space.
I wonder if am I getting the wrong message?
Some of my tracks have very long filenames/paths e.g 124 charactere filenames and 213 character paths. I also have some filenames with " (double quote) in.
Could this be the reason?
If so what characters must I avoid and what size should the filename and paths be limited to?

Filenames and paths are irrelevant. They are renamed on the iPod anyway.
20 GB is not really 20. It is a rounded number all HD manufacturers use. Plus you lose some space due to formatting and the iPod software. There is also meta data for the songs which takes some space.

Firefox doesn't reconvert special characters in the file names when download a file with any special characters in the file name
