Itunes 10.5 skipping imported CD tracks on windows vista

Can anyone help me,
I am running Windows Vista and have updated to latest itunes version 10.5. I have imported 3-4 of my CD's (they play fine in any other cd player) which all show imported (i.e with the green tick on import screen) However when i go to play them both on the pc and on my ipod it skips through between 4-9 tracks (not playing anything) before playing another track further down the list.
cheers

How many cds have you ripped since replacing the drive? I think you have just been lucky.
I mostly use an external cd drive. I still have the problem with both internal and external drives.
Remember this problem is random. I have tried 3 cds in a row and had no trouble, then on the 4th the issue is back.
I don't believe this issue will completely go away until Apple prvides a fix with an iTunes update.

I am trying to update my itunes 10.4 to 10.5.3 in windows vista 32 bit but it goes through the downloading ok then goes to installing but comes up with "An errors occurred while installing updates. If the problem persists, choose TOOLS>DOWNLOAD ONLY and try installing manually". I have tried to do that but i am unable to click the download only button. I have gone into programs and features and tried repairing itunes, apple application support, apple software update, bonjour, apple mobile device support but to no avail. I have tried to update via the   button but it goes through the downloading and installing like before then comes up with Im not very savvy on the computer so would appreciate a 'dumbed down' answer. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

Have you tried uninstalling iTunes and its components completely rather than repairing them?

    ... and:
To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes
... and the QuickTime Player not launching either (it's a "QuickTime has stopped working" error?).
With that combination, we need to check on some other application (apart from QuickTime itself) stashing old QuickTime componentry on the PC in an unorthodox location. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects with that, although some games might do the same.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes 7.6 "invalid signature" installation problems with Windows Vista

I updated my 160Gb Classic to the latest firmware and then up pops: "The iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.6 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
Everytime I start to download the lastest version of iTunes, Quicktime 7.6 and Safari I get a pop up window saying: "itunes & quicktime has an Invaild signature and won't installed" and the same happens with Safari.
I've turned off my popup blocker as was one suggestion, but still no luck. Am I being a Dunce and missing something?
I'm on dial up and downloading an entire version of iTtunes takes ages, but Download Express usually helps cut this time in half.
Would anyone have any ideas please on how to reslove this please? My iPod doesn't even show up in iTunes, just the message saying to update to the latest ver of iTunes. I'm running Windows Vista 32Bit

  • ITunes installation made CD/DVD drive dissapear for Windows Vista

Ok, so I got a new PC last week with Windows Vista. Everything had been working just fine until today (or today I realized)that Vista stopped recognizing my CD/DVD drive. After several hours I found that the problem was caused by iTunes and some GEAR software/drivers that it uses for burning CDs. So I logged on to GEAR's website to D/L the latest drivers, installed them, but still nothing happened. I then unistalled them, rebooted and still the same... Finally, I removed manually this GEAR thing, rebooted, and my CD/DVD drive was visible and accesible again. The problem is that now iTunes cannot burn CDs because it can´t find the GEAR software.
So this is a catch-22 situation: If I uninstall and re-install iTunes, I will not be able to see my CD/DVD drive, and if I remove these GEAR stuff, then I can see it but iTunes will not burn anything!!!!
For now I´ve decided to stay like this because at least I can use some other apps to burn CDs, and I can still sync my iPod, but I would like to have a solution for this.
Anybody has seen this same problem?

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • How can I move an existing iTunes library from a Dell PC (which uses Windows Vista) to a MacBook Pro?  I have tried to copy the library from the PC onto a memory stick but cannot move from the stick onto the MacBook Pro.

I have tried to copy my iTunes library from my old (2008) Dell PC to a 32 GB memory stick and then copy it from the stick to the iTunes library in the new MacBook Pro which I purchased recently from a reputable dealer which resells refurbished Macs, (lease returns, etc).  The dealer was Computer Trends store in Saskatoon.  They told me how to move my existing iTunes libary from the PC to the Mac but I cannot seem to achieve that objective.  The Mac does not seem to recognize the memory stick.  I thought the Mac would recognize that the memory stick held iTunes files and would then transfer them without prompting to its own iTunes libary.  It did not do so.  I have therefore tried to find the command sequence within iTunes (on the Mac) for moving the material from the memory stick to the iTunes library.  Cannot find those commands.  Does anybody know where to find such commands.  I have to say, I am really disappointed that such a simple function would prove to be beyond my capabilities.  I thought the Mac was supposed to be easier than a PC.  !!!  Oh well, I am hoping this forum will help !!!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC?

  • ITunes 10.7.0.21 problems on a Windows Vista laptop

    Hi,
Right, I've been runnning iTunes on my Acer Extensa 5220 laptop for the past three years, with minimal problems. Today, however, and iTunes has decided to totally screw-up!
I recently updated from old iTunes 10.X version (sorry, I don't know the exact version number) to the new 10.7.0.21 edition, and everything seemed fine. Now, however, iTunes won't load-up at all. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
In my iTunes folder, iTunes.exe is now just 9548kb in size (9.5mb roughly). I've tried running the Repair facility, but that just crashes as soon as you hit the Repair button. (Utterly useless that was!)
I don't want to delete stuff, as it will take me forever to re-install all my music, apps, pictures and other assorted files back into iTunes. I've tried various other recommendations to fix this problem, including the numerous solutions in this very Forum (fixing Bonjour, deleting or repairing all pieces of Apple Software, trying the Apple Software Updater, etc, etc), but all to no avail.
I can't even download a fresh copy of iTunes 10.7.0.21 direct from Apple UK themselves, as when I did that just a few moments ago, the 75mb (approx) file downloaded, and created a new iTunes icon on my desktop, but that doesn't do anything either!
What the **** is Apple playing at, releasing a piece of software that is - going from all the problems that people are mentioning on the Internet - clearly substantially buggy and/or problematic?!
Sort this out Apple! This is NOT acceptable!
    Pooch

All sorted now. Thread can be closed!

  • Hello i am having trouble installing itunes 10.5 on my laptop i have windows vista. it says error 7 windows error 998. i now have no itunes. i have tried to uninstall itunes but it still wont work and keep coming up with that message. please help!

    hello
i am having major trouble installing itunes. i had itunes working fine and i went to update it as it told me there was an update which i thought i did. i went on my laptop the next day and it said "itunes was not installed correctly error 7 windows error 998"
i read a few articles on here but i am having no joy. i uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and that did not work. i also unistalled some other apple things cant remember the names sorry!
i am not a whiz on a computer so really need some help please!!

Installing, and uninstalling, applications never touches or removes the data.
Clean out and uninstall all the apple programs and software thru Programs and manually.
Might want to use Revo and CCleaner
I always use manual standalone installers (and keep a couple backup versions)
itunes 10.5 may affect iTunes media playlists, not sure, depends on what you have.
A search of these forums will show some threads.
I'd clean up vista, you need SP2 or later, and specific error message?
I wonder as you arenot the first with a dell if maybe the OS or included software.
Security programs like Norton and older versions of Kaspersky have been implicated.
Also settings in IE that affect pop-ups and plug-ins.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Itunes store does not open - no error using windows vista

does anyone have any solutions that will allow me to access itunes store.
    no error comes up.
using vista and have downloaded current itunes 10.4
    thanks

    thanks. spyware scan was clean.
how do i make sure itunes is allowed through antivirus? also, regarding the files to be deleted, where are they located on PC?
The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good
antispyware checker and give it a go at your system.
Some recent spyware has been reported by other users
to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching.
From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at
catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido
    here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, make sure that any
antivirus/antispyware application you have is set to
allow iTunes to operate. Some antivirus/antispyware
has been known to shut down iTunes. An upgrade to
iTunes or to the utility may have triggered the
    problem.
If that still doesn't help, take a look at iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting unexpected
    quits, freezes, or launch failures
If that still doesn't work, try deleting the iTunes
    preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
    Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
    Data\Application Data\Apple
    Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find
them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select
Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show
hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling
panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put
them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other
location. This will force iTunes to run the setup
assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that
you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've
    changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
