ITunes on iPhone - Download over cellular issues

9 times out of 10 when I am purchasing songs over cellular the song will download about 2mb then it will restart saying Preparing to Download.  I have a Verizon iPhone 4s. Anyone know how to fix this?  Very annoying.

I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
No. The Apple website states,"FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability. Availability over a cellular network depends on carrier policies; data charges may apply."

  • IOS 7 continues iTunes in the Cloud downloads over cellular data, ignoring settings.

I have run into an *expensive* little bug in iOS 7.0.1.
Kids, don't try this at home:
While on wifi, turn on show all music or iTunes Match. Make sure "use cellular data" is OFF.
Go to music and start downloading something (like a playlist with about 3000 songs...)
Now turn off wifi or move out of range. Your songs will continue downloading over cellular data!
Kiss your data limit and your battery life goodbye.
There is NO WAY to stop the download queue, short of turning on airplane mode, and it will continue as soon as you turn it back off. You can go into iTunes downloads and manually pause each song, but only after they have started to download.  Restarting the phone or signing out of your iTunes account does not work. You can  also deselect songs that are pending in music, but again, you have to do this for every song.
I'll be calling AT&T tomorrow to try and get these overages removed, and Apple to let them know about this... I mean, really? How hard can it be to stop downloading when the wifi goes away? iTunes Radio stops immediately when you drop off wifi...

I just realized you can go into Settings->cellular and turn off cellular data for Music... that might work, but I don't know if it will stop downloads that are already running. I wonder if this is related to the multipath TCP implementation: once a connection is initiated, the app doesn't know when the network changes!

  • I set up Icloud, now when I try to listen to a song on my ipone 5s it asks me if I want to "download over cellular"? and additional fees may apply.  I've already bought this music, why would there be any more fees?

I bought my first Iphone - the Iphone S about a month ago.  I was able to listen to music no problem.  I recently figured out how to get my photos off of my phone and on to my PC, but was prompted to sign up for ICloud to do it.  Now when I try to listen to music on my phone, it asks me to download it from Icloud and asks "download over cellular"?  "Additional fees may apply when downloading phones over cellular".  I've already bought all my music, why would there be more fees and shouldn't ICloud have mentioned this?  Seems I need to take a class just to figure all this out.

The clouds you see next to your music on the device and iCloud are two different things. When your music is not on your device it is in iTunes in the Cloud. Not the same thing as iCloud which is used to sync information between devices and house backups of your device contents. So that little cloud you see next to your songs is telling you that the music is not on your device. That's why it is giving you the message - because when you click on it, it is attempting to download it to your device.
What may have happened is when you imported your photos to the PC, you may have sync'd your device via iTunes, and you did not have the Sync Music option checked in your device Profile screen.
Hook up your device to your PC and open iTunes. Make sure the sidebar is showing (Control+S if you cannot see the sidebar with Devices listed), and click on your device to open the Device Profile screens to the right. Click on the Music tab, and make sure that the Sync All Music or Sync Selected Music box is checked. If you have Sync Selected Music checked, then below that, make sure you check all music that you want on your device. Then click on SYNC at the bottom (or APPLY).
Once you have successfully sync'd your music to your device, you will no longer see the cloud next to the songs, and you also will no longer get a message since you will have the songs physically on your device and not in iTunes in the Cloud.
    Cheers,
    GB

  • Download over cellular

    Hello,
Each time I set the alarm and choose a ringtone, which was downloaded from iTunes store on my iPhone I get this message "download Over Cellular?" as shown in the following image.
What can I do to prevent this message from popping up on my secreen.

It looks like you have purchased the ringtone from the iTunes Store, but it never actually downloaded onto your phone. Go back to the iTunes Store into the list of your recent purchases and try re-downloading the song. This happens to me sometimes when I start downloading an app on cellular but it has an error finishing...

  • HT4623 I purchased a movie on my brand new iPad air 64g.  I'm connected to a strong wi-fi but still I get that error can't download over cellular. I have plenty of space. What is wrong? So frustrated.

IIRC, you can only download  a maximum file size of 100MB with cellular.

  • After upgrade to 6.1, Alarm now asks to "download over cellular"???

After installing 6.1, each time I try to set an alarm in the Clock app (choosing a song in iTunes as the alarm sound), I get a warning message "Dowload Over Cellular?" and some text about how downloading songs over cellular can use a lot of data.
    That's really weird!
It seems if I click "cancel" it won't use the song as the alarm. If I click "download" it will play the song.
Come on, Apple, you never made these kind of sloppy mistakes before... I'm getting worried about you...
I've been using the alarm in the clock app since they added it in iOS6 with no problem. I wonder what's going on....

Yes it's a song that's on my phone, in iTunes. And it's a song I didn't purchase from iTunes. I transferred it from an old CD.
I came across one other discussion in here with several people with the same issue. So it's a bug in 6.1.
One person in this discussion said the problem went away after a day.

  • ITunes saying iPhone is over capacity

I have an iPhone 5 16GB and am running the latest version of iTunes on my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. When I look at the usage section on my phone without it connected to the computer, it says I have 1.5GB available. But when I connect and sync it to the computer, the availability in 'usage' drops to 0 bytes and iTunes says the phone is over capacity by 253mb. Please Help!!!
    Thanks

I found the culprit in my case:  after update to itunes 12 iPhone is X GB over the limit.
Check your sync settings for each type of content in the left sidebar.  In my case I had sync turned off for everything but ringtones.   After iTunes update for some reason the entire music library is set to sync with the phone.  Turning it off reconciled the storage issue.   Perhaps in your case it is some other new content marked for syncing.

  • "Download over Cellular?" Notification when setting alarm!

I have a 4S with 6.1.3 and I just started getting this message a couple days ago.  No clue why, I don't think I have changed anything, I am using the same song I have always used for my alarm.
Any thoughts? Apple? Hellooooooooo?  I've seen two or three other similar posts.  Anyone else know the fix?  Not the work around?

I was playing around with my phone and found this. Go to Settings--> General--> Cellular and look at the cellular data. I turned my setting to off and it fixed the problem. Not sure what else it shuts off but as I said I don't get that message anymore when I set my clock.
I was looking online and found something else, people getting charged large for over cellular data, maybe face time being used on wifi - that fix was going to Settings--> iTunes&App stores--> Use Cellular Data and setting that to off. My setting was set off but as I said others have had big problems.
    Hope that fixes your problem

  • I have a ipad. I attempted to download a movie fr itunes " cannot not download from cellular data. U need to connect to a wifi". How do I do that. Thanks

I Have an ipad. I attempted to download a movie from iTunes, however comment was " u cannot download from cellular data, u need to b connected to wifi" . Could  u please tell me how I go about that. Thank

I see you have good coverage in Australia for Internet ...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_in_Australia
I'll assume you don't have Internet Service at home, so ... first you get that. Then you hook up a WiFi router to the service in your home. Here's Apple's router. I believe you have your own Apple Store in Australia; this is the U.S. store.

SO ... with two things (home Internet service and WiFi router) ... you have it.

  • ITunes to iPhone download

Why can't i download songs from my itunes library to my new iPhone, but i can drag and drop songs from my iTunes library to my old iPod?

You can sync using iTunes or you can use iCloud via Wi-Fi.

  • Itunes to iphone - "recently added" playlist issues

My recently added list is organized by date in itunes, but when it transfers to my iphone 5, it's in some random order.  Help!

Remove the playlist from the phone, add it back again.
Hmm, is the list reversed on the iPhone compared to iTunes?
    Invert playlist
The current Play Order is the order shown if you click the heading of the left-most column of numbers, and have the triangle pointing up. This is (or at least should be) what gets synced to the device.
To reverse the stored order click the triangle so that it points down, right-click on the playlist name, click Copy to Play Order, then click the triangle so that it points up. You should now have the desired order. You can drag anything that isn't quite right up or down the list.

  • Itunes match no longer downloads on cellular

i have iPad air running iOS 8.1.2 and iPhone 6 plus running iOS 8.1.2
they both have t-mobile sim cards
i've noticed that whenever wifi is turned off, the download arrow disappears now on itunes match. and reappears when you connect to wifi
i was planning on testing t-mobile download speeds / usage, and found out that i can no longer download my music over cellular
    is this a new feature???
    settings
    use cellular data for
everything is checked YES except for "roku" and "98.5 Kfox"
    itunes and app store
    itunes match ON
    use Cellular Data ON
    settings music
    itunes match ON
i think downloading from itunes match over cellular was either removed in 8.1.2, or my sim card s blocking it

f iTunes match is turned off then music only shows purchased music , and that can be downloaded over cellular
if ttunes match is turned on, then no music can be downloaded over cellular

  • How to play YouTube videos in HD on iPhone over cellular?

Does anyone know how to play YouTube videos using the Google YouTube app in HD on the iPhone over cellular? I'm asking because I have an iPhone 5 with a large LTE data plan, which I don't mind using a bit more data for better clearity on the videos. I know in the past people have suggested to use YouTube in the Safari broswer to view videos in HD, but I find it to be non-consistant. Anyone have a better idea how to watch YouTube videos in HD on iPhone/iPad over cellular (3G/LTE)?

Did you use iAD to create the widget?   If  you did...  then there support  group  should have answers.
If you used one of the widgets in iBA  - as you have  had no suggestion for a fix... you will need to contact iBooks support.
The  More Like This column on the right shows links to similar problems.
It would  seem to be  related to  your  use of  You Tube and Vimeo content or maybe its how you  put the  widget content  together.
Have  you search the iBA help files, previous posts and the iBA  tips?

  • Why do I get the message: additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular in my itunes on my iphone 5? Plus I see the cloud icon that is either greyed out or red

I uploaded my old songs on my computer then I tried to sync them in my iphone's music library and I can't listen to the previously purchased songs... They either appear red with the cloud icon or greyed out... And I get the following message when I tap on them: additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular
    Anyone can help?

Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.
