if I rent a full tv series from itunes will i only have 24 hours to watch all the episodes or can i watch a few episodes a day as long as i watch all of them in the 30 day time limit.

iTunes > preferences > advanced.
point iTunes media folder location to the external
on the same tab, ensure the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked
okay out of preferences
highlight the content to be moved in iTunes and right-click
select consolidate files from the pop-up menu
wait for the process to finish
when done, you may delete the original files from your boot drive. you may also want to point iTunes media folder location back to your local iTunes folder.

I would recommend uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components. Please make sure to uninstall all components outlined in the article below in order. Once this is done, install iTunes again.

You can't fix it. iTunes bought content is DRM protected. so it can only be played on authorized devices. i.e devices associated with the apple Id used to purchase the content. Its copyright protection that the rights owners demand.
Circumventing it, is illegal in most countries, and as such cannot be discussed here. If you want to play the content you'll need to connect your computer directly to your TV, or use some other device you can authorize for iTunes content such as an iPad, iPhone , iPod touch or Apple Tv.

ITunes, TV Series - Menu display's the 853 x 480 files as well as the 1280 x 720HD files?

Hi All
Can anybody tell me why the iTunes, TV Series - Menu display's the 853 x 480 files as well as the 1280 x 720HD files?
It means when you scroll through you TV or film collections using your remote you get a duplicate title. I can understand having 2 files for viewing on the iPhone or HDTV but you would think iTunes would filter and display the files subject to how you were viewing your TV shows etc?
Can anybody tell me how to solve this?

3 Items show up, all the same:
ThinkPad Display 1280 x 800
I first tried to remove, rebooted, and nothing happened.
When I went back in to device manager, they all 3 showed back up
Second time, disabled all 3, rebooted and nothing happened.
Third time tried to remove 2 of the 3, nothing happened.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Itunes changes series photo/artwork for episode photo/artwork

Whenever I update a new podcast, in itunes the series artwork is substituted for an episodes art work? Does anyone know how to stop this so that the series art work/photo will remain the same even while adding episodes?

Make sure that the episode artwork is added to the actual file's metadata. Instructions for adding art to the file in iTunes are listed in the tech spec here:

Apple TV taking a long time to download an iTunes Store movie rental

Normally when we rent a movie from the iTunes Store via Apple TV we're able to start watching it within a few minutes. We just rented one, however, and the downloading process is going super slow. It's been downloading for at least 10 minutes, it's just 22 percent done, and AppleTV is saying that we won't be able to start watching it for another 35 minutes.
Our Internet seems to be working fine and at normal speeds otherwise though.
Any idea why the Apple TV is taking so long to download this movie rental?

ITunes HD movie rentals/purchases don't play in QuickTime player

I am trying to play HD movie rentals/purchases in QuickTime player. Although I can play them without problems in iTunes, opening the movie file in QuickTime player only gives me a grey screen and no sound. The "grey screen" issue occurs several times in the community, but for my case I haven't found any solution so far. I am using Windows 7 (64-bit), and I have all the latest versions of iTunes and QuickTime Player (free version) installed. I appreciate any suggestions for help.

m4v is a container format for iTunes and contains mostly two streams. One video H264, one sound mp4
Check handbrake for its sound settings.
Try to rename the movie into kids playing.mp4 and check if Quicktime will open it.
Quicktime is a crap.

What version of Quicktime?
Generally ... if VLC, iTunes, FrontRow is available and plays the movies, why want to play it in Quicktime?

ITunes TV Series grouping by Show not Show + Season

Hi,
I've tried everything to no avail, but is it possible to do the following:
Sort or group tv series so that for example every season of House appears under House and then episodes are grouped by season? Rather than every season having its own entry.
Currently my ripped series appear like this: http://zeddy.org/Screenie.png
And look the same in FrontRow. I used a couple of scripts of dougscripts to import them all and set them all as TV Episodes and the like.
Is such a thing possible or was iTunes 8 just made to sort series like that?

Apple TV and iTunes "loading" on rentals?

Why do Apple TV and iTunes rentals, insist on "loading", requiring an extensive wait? I am using Apple TV on a DSL connection. I can watch a HD movie on Netflix within seconds of starting. But renting from iTunes requires "loading". Message states nearly 2 hours. What's up with this function? And why is it so inferior to Netflix?

It's dependent on your network connection. It's the actual speed that counts. You can verify this by going to www.speedtest.net
8mbps is required for instant 1080p
6mbps for 720p
Netflix adapts to your connection whereas iTunes content is fixed and will start once enough has loaded in order to play without interuption.

Downloaded iTunes TV Series abruptly stops playing

I bought a season of a tv series off iTunes, the first episode finished downloading so I decided to watch it, but a little more than half way in, the frame froze but the time bar indicated that the video was still playing even though I also couldn't hear any sound. Then the episode went blank and now when I reopen it even after restarting that episode wont play. The same (minus the blank screen) also occurred with the second episode that finished downloading.
I downloaded these over a less than ideal wifi connection, I suspected the connection had something to do with the quality of the downloaded product.
Please help!

Same problem exactly. Purchased an episode of Mad Men, and now it stops playing at the same spot every time. The laptop was accidentally closed while downloading, so I, too, wonder if that may have something to do with it. Seems like the download needs to be resumed or refreshed.

Can't launch my iTunes after movie rental?

I purchased a rental a few days ago on itunes that I watched successfully. I didn't use my computer for maybe a day or two after that. Once I logged on I tried to get on my itunes only to have it quit unexpectedly. Every time I tried to reset and relaunch it continued to just quit. One thing I noticed was every time I tried to get on, in the top left hand corner it says that I "still" have a rental? When we all know that's not true. I tried everything and can't seem to come up with nothing. Can someone please help me?

Where does iTunes 11 put rentals?

After downloading a rental, I can not find where iTunes 11 puts the Movie Rentals. I know that it is in my "Movie" folder and I can play it from there, but where is it on iTunes 11, so I do not have to open up the "Movie" folder to play it?

I have a follow up. I found the answer on another thread. When you rent a movie, you can't have the sidebar view on. Turn that off, and click the "movie" tab. On the top of the screen, the menu options at the top "unmatched/movies/genres/home movies/list" adds another option -- "rented" when you purchase a rental. I just rented something for .99 to test it, and indeed it works, And, I even got the "your movie is available to viewed, do you want to see it now" message.
Oh, edit: you can have the sidebar on. It is just that I never noticed the "rented" option. You have to click on "rented" to see the movie icon in your library. Odd that I did not see that before.

ITunes Store Movie Rental Download Issues

Hey there. So I bought a rental movie from the iTunes store. It was downloading but I don't think it finished because my computer hibernated after a while. Since then I have been trying to resume the movie download but it won't resume or finish. It keeps saying (Error -50).
What can I do?
