Itunes will not update/sync ipod shuffle (1st or 2nd gen).

Hello -- I've seen a few postings with similar issues, but no answers that work yet, so I'm hoping someone may be able to help.
Recently, I can not get itunes to sync or update either my 1st or 2nd gen shuffle. itunes sees it and diagnostics says everything is fine (although the diag program takes 5-7 mins to run). Non-shuffle ipods work fine on the same USB port. Also, the shuffles work fine on other computers.
I have deinstalled/reinstalled itunes, as well as the USB driver. I downloaded the reset utility for both shuffles and run. No difference after any of these efforts.
The problem is the same for autofill or drag/drop. itunes says not to disconnect the ipod as it's sync'ing and the little sync symbol appears next to the shuffle, but itunes just locks up ~5 mins. It returns w/o an error message, but nothing has been copied. It's the same whether I try to copy 1 or 100 songs.
Any help will be appreciated. I'll cross post in 1st gen discussion as well.
Thank you,

None of the suggested fixes in the knowledge base article you referenced resolved this issue for me. Further, I cannot use the iPod Reset Utility to restore the iPod as it is not 64-bit OS compatible.
I have been unable to sync my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen with iTunes since the release of 8.1.1.10. The new release 8.2.0.23 has not resolved the issue. Hopefully Apple will take notice of all the problems here on the forums and release either an iTunes or firmware patch to resolve these problems.

  • My itunes will not recognize my ipod shuffle after installing Mcafee

My itunes will not recognize my Ipod shuffle, I have tried almost everything Itunes has suggested including uninstalling and installing Itunes.  I am at a loss, the computer recognizes the ipod and assigns a drive to it.  When I click on the drive there are flies in it.  I have disabled the firewall, checked all firewall settings as suggested in previous forums.  I have tried deleting the temp files but that keeps getting hung up on a file that says it is in use.  I can stll use my ipod because it charges but I can not update songs etc.
I contacted Mcafee but all they did was turn the firewall off (I could have done that myself).
If there is any help I would appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Nadine

The first thing I did in the morning was contact McAfee they turned the firewall off it didnt work so they said it wasnt their problem.  I attempted several other things using ITunes help but none of the solutions worked.  I would say it is something in my computer but the drive shows up in my files so the computer is reading the USB port.  I tried changing the drive but that didnt help.
I cannot find a universal "OFF switch" in McAfee But I have turned the firewall off several times after many different attempts.
I do not find an area where I can tell Itunes where the Ipod is in Windows Explorer, that would be helpful at least it could try to locate it then. You would think this feature would be available since Itunes would like us to purchase music through them to load on our equipment.  Since my computer does not recognize my Ipod there is no need for me to purchase music.
Do I sound frusturated - I AM But I appreciate your trying to help.

  • My itunes will not update my ipod mini-please help me

For the last couple of days, I have been updating my itunes with new music. However, when I connect my ipod to my PC it does not update my ipod mini with the new music. The other night it was connected and said it was charging but didn't update and right now it's plugged in and says nothing, I think the battery died. So I am wondering how in the world do i get my ipod to update. Please someone help me! I've already tried rebooting the computer, what else works?

Sounds like you've got connection problems, Al. Also, the exclamation mark means you need to restore your iPod.
Run the iPod Updater (Start - Programs - iPod) and only connect your mini when it tells you to connect and iPod. This time, however, connect it to one of the ports on the rear of your computer (if you have a desktop).
If it's still not recognized by the updater, reset it: hold down the Menu and Center buttons until you see the Apple logo.
If it's recognized by the updater, choose the Restore option and follow the instructions from there.

Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
It sounds like the next best step to take would be to reset the iPod Shuffle.

  • My itunes will not recognize my ipod touch

I'm using a Mac desktop and it/my itunes will not recognize my ipod touch. I have resent my ipod and have also done all the suggested things on the apple website and still it is not being recognized, I do not know what else I can do. My macbook will recognize my ipod touch but I don't want to sync it to that itunes since it is already out of date, I want to sync it to my desktop mac where I already have the latest version of itunes, and all the music I want to sync onto my ipod touch. What can I do?

Itunes will not recognize my ipod. How do I fix this?

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.

  • ITunes will not recognize my iPod, but windoes DOES.

When i plug my 30gig iPod into my pc via usb, windows recognizes it, and it even prompts iTunes to pop up. After this however, nothing happens.
I cannot get iTunes to recognize my iPod, therefore cannot update it.
I have tried all of the steps on the troubleshooting guide on apples website, and itunes still will not update my ipod. I also even switched the letter of the iPod drive as directed by another post.
    Please help!

    Hello,
Yes, I can help you with the "can't mount iPod" issue. Check out these steps:
Eject your iPod from computer (for now).
    Close Updater and iTunes programs.
    Restart the computer.
Put your iPod into disk mode.
Connect your iPod to your computer again.
See if your Updater works for your iPod.
Also, if that didn't help with the problem, your iPod's hard drive might be out of place, if you're getting this kind of message. If you suspect so (especially if you hear strange sounds and clicking coming from the iPod), then try this:
Tap your iPod firmly on both sides several times, using your hand. This might work for you to tap your iPod'd hard drive back into place. It's not just a joke, since it works for lots of people, if their problem was the iPod's hard drive being out of place.
    I hope this helps!
