Jabber and CUPC with SAMETIME

What does the Jabber service and client provide and what does the CUPC client provide?  Do  I need both?  Which will provide me video conferencing?  Can I interface with SAMETIME and have all of the same features for the users, between the users?  Are there any limitations?
Thanks!

Thank you Leonardo.  I was able to access the second link.
But I do have a few more questions...
What does "not support video calls in deskphone mode only in softphone mode mean?"
So CUPC and Jabber use independent servers, and they have their own clients.  According to the document it says I need "CUP, CUCM and Unity Connection or in a Cloud-based soultion using the Cisco Webex services".  Does this mean if I use the combination of products I don't require Webex?  Can I build my own Cloud-based Webex solution, or is the one that I have to subscribe to?
Is there a protocol diagram showing how all talk to one another via protocol?  Are all connections encrypted?
For my client message can I have it take the information from the users Exchange Calendar vice them selecting Available, Away, and Do Not disturb?
Jabbers client is collecting numbers from a directory server.  Does this directory server retrieve the information from Active directory?  We want to have a central source for all user information.
To perform desktop sharing I need CUCM 8.6 and associating a "device" with a BFCP-enabled SIP profile.  I'm not clear on associated a device and what BFCP is.  What if the user doesn't use the same workstation everyday, or their mobile.  Do we just need to ensure all devices are registered with CUCM?  We also use VDI.  Not sure how all of this ties together.
Thanks!

  • Jabber plan to replace WebEx Connect and CUPC

Can someone from Cisco articulate the roadmap plan for
    WebEx Connect Client
    Cisco Unified Presence Client
...in light of the FCS availability of 'Jabber Branded' clients for everything now? Are there subsequent releases planned?
I thought WebEx Connect {with CUCI Connect for UC} would be replaced by Jabber and the CUPC for Premise based deployments replaced by Jabber, and I would also only need Jabber for the Hybrid case as well?
But both WebEx Connect client and CUPC have features today, which Jabber doesnt yet, so my educated guess is you are obviously considering this as input for the Jabber roadmap and will not retire the older clients until you have a transparent transition capability?
WebEx COnnect: Things like Broadcast Message, Group Chat History, Incoming Chat Popup, change status from system tray, view recent emails in contact list, import contacts, and P2P (1:1) video and audio, all possible in WC, but not yet in Jabber FCS clients.
CUPC: Things like Persistent Chat, CUP HA, Group Chat History, CLick to 'x' from Browser/Office, Desk Phone Video, Personal Contacts.
Another guess would be that WebEx Connect will continue in parallel, as there are many Cisco customers who enjoy the WebEx SaaS offering and are not Cisco UC infrastructure accounts, and so will continue to use WC?
But I cant 'guess' when I am standing in front of customers with severl hundred thousand dollars of CAPEX being proposed.
Appreciate as much guidance you can give here so I can compete using Cisco.
    Steve

With the upcoming versions of Jabber for Winows 9.1 or Jabber for Mac 9.0 the feature gap between Jabber and WC is getting smaller, and will get smaller with future releases.
Customer can decide, ie. WebEx Connect is obviously cloud only, so for example when they prefer cloud P2P audio/video, only WC can do this. However Jabber works both cloud and on-prem, moreover if you have CUCM and a complete audio-video infrastructure, you don't focus on P2P audio.

  • IChatAV not doing audio and video with Jabber

I am using a Macbook and have configured iChat to talk to MSN via Jabber using Psi and a server in UK called tuff.org.uk. The buddies show up and I can text chat with them but the buttons for audio and video are greyed out. I have usually use a wireless router with NAT and have played with port forwarding. As an exercise I have tried connecting to the internet via my mobile phone (no NAT) and the results are the same. I am not using the firewall on the Mac.
There are no hardware problems I am aware of, the built-in iSight camera works within iChat etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Jan,
Rocky's answer is the correct one.
I must admit I am not even sure you were addressing him though as you post looks like a strange ramble and looks like you signed it as Rocky as well.
iChat to iChat over Jabber names is possible as both ends will use the iChat way of doing Video (or Audio) chats.
iChat to another Jabber app will not do Video (Audio) chats.
The only App on a PC that Might be technically capable is Trillian as it does Jabber and AIM. However there seems to be no way to get it's Jabber side to invoke the AIM A/V features to match iChat.

  • Jabber and Messages: error with cert

    Hi all,
Since upgrading to Mavericks, I'm not able to connect to my company's Jabber server. I get a cert error, even after I've trusted the cert. All Mavericks users at our company are having the same problem, so the problem isn't just on my computer. I've enclosed a screen shot of the error.
Is anyone else having the same problem? The same setup - Jabber and Messages - works fine in Mountain Lion and previous OS versions.
    Thanks!

Look at item 4 in this article

  • Jabber and Outlook Pressence

    Hello,
We are using a mix of CUPC and Jabber clients, and having trouble with some of the Outlook integration.  I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I couldn't find a better category.
What is happening is, if you receive an email from someone, or are typing an email to someone, if you hover over their name, a window pops up with their contact information.  On that pop up, you are able to email, call, IM, etc.  On many of our users, when you hover over the phone button, it will say Call: [email protected] rather than their actual extension.  I've done some research on this, but can't really find anything definitive.  I have a mix of the users with the problem that have the SIP: entry in their proxyAddresses, and some that don't, so I don't think this is the issue, at least directly.
Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.
    System Stats:
    CCMBE 8.5
    CUPS 8.5
Mix of Jabber 9.1 and CUPC 8.5
Windows 7 with Office 2007 and Office 2010

    Hi Jonathan and Mark
In our deployment (CUP 8.6.4, Jabber for Windows 9.1.1, Office 2010, Exchange 2010), before I set up the SIP URI for our pilot users we were getting intermittent Presence status in Outlook, which would typically spring to life if you hovered you mouse over the contacts details. Also the call field as described above  by Mark was correct for most users (i.e the number was populated) but some it was not.
I've now arranged for our AD team to add SIP:[email protected] (matching the IM addresses) to the proxyadresses attribute for three of the pilot users in order to improve the reliability so will report back when done
I've a couple of questions though if you or anyone wouldn't mind answering if you can?
    1) Any ideas why, without the SIP URI attribute being added to proxyAdresses for any users, that Presence status sometines worked OK ?
    2) Some users already have a SIP URI in the proxyAdresses attribute, but in the wrong format (SIP:[email protected]) which does not match the IM address format. We're not sure where these came from or why they are there, but is it likely to cause a problem if a user has two SIP: entries in different formats in their proxyAddresses attribute field?
    Regards
    Kelvin

  • Anyone tried to get Jabber to work with Domino for contact search

I have a customer who has recently upgraded to CUCM 8.6.2.22900-9 and Presence 8.6.4.11900-1 fom CUCM 6.x and Presence 6.x. When they were at 6.x they were able to integrate CUPC contact search with Domino server. I realize this was not supported, but they got it to work. Now they want to attempt to get Jabber to work with Domino. Again I realize that is not a supported LDAP for Jabber, but I was wondering if anyone has perhaps tried this and what their experience was.

  • Jabber and Voicemail Notifications

                       Hello guys!
Is it possible to receive voicemail notification on both jabber and desk phone at the same time? For example, if a user has a desk phone as primary extension on CUCM 8.6, the Unity use that extension for VM. But if the user has also a jabber client version 9.x for Windows and wants to receive voicemail on jabber, what is the best design option? Assign the same DN to both jabber and desk phone?
Also, I set up visual voicemail for jabber but left a voicemail in jabber and no notification appeared, where should i look into? The voicemail server and profile with users were added in CUP.
    Note: The scenario is a BE6000 platform with CUCM8.6, CUCxN,8.6, CUP8.6 and CUPM8.6.
    Thanks in advanced!

Why would you have different extensions on desk phone vs. jabber? Normally this is not desired for user to manage 2 different numbers.
If however that is a requirement you can always define alternate extension on Unity Connection.
For VM configuration did you configure all the service in CUPS server, i.e. mailstore?

  • Jabber and IP Phone 8945 call history synchronisation

    Hi
We're running 8945 IP Phones and CUPC 8.5.5 and a few Jabber 9.0.4 in a CTI deskphone mode.
Currently both call history are linked to the device. No synchronisation between IP Phone and CUPC / Jabber.
Even the missed calls count is not cleared on both sides when the user looks at the call history. For example if the user looks at the IP Phone call history because it indicates missed calls and the clears the counter, the Jabber still showing the same missed calls count.
Any improvement in the future ?
    Thanks,

    Hi Jean,
No, there is nothing planned at the moment to provide any synchronization between call history. I will suggest to open a feature request via Cisco TAC.
    Thanks,

  • Jabber and O365 integration

    Hello,
Do we need any additional licenses from Cisco or Microsoft to make a full possible integration between O365 and Jabber ?
    For example features like :
Single Inbox Unified Messaging with SpeechView transcriptions,  Microsoft Word Click to Call, SharePoint Presence & Click to Call,  Jabber video calling and desktop sharing, and WebEx on desktop and iPad,
    Thank you for your help
    Best Regards,
    Tomasz

    Tomek,
There is no direct integration between Jabber and Office 365, except for Exchange Gateway integration on IMP server side which is not supported with Office 365. All other Jabber integrations do not go to Office 365, calendar client integrations are done with Outlook, and UM integration is between Office 365 and Unity Connection, which does not affect Jabber.
    HTH,
    Chris (Krzysiek) :-)

  • Jabber and Desk Phone Integration

When stting up "Desk Phone Integration" on cisco Jabber on a test iPhone, Jabber loops forever when verifying account information saying just "verifying...". It never display an error message. It will eventually stop, the "Desk Phone Integration" staying "Not Configured"
    CUCM version : 8.6(2)
    iPhone iOS : 6.0.1
    Jabber client : 9.0.2.20078
I followed the instructions in the "Administration Guide for Cisco Jabber for iPhone Release 9.0.1" to setup the call manager.
I created a dedicated SIP profile,
created the TCTTEST "Cisco Dual Mode for iPhone" phone according to the documentation
and edit my phone and user settings according to the "Enable Active Call Transfer Between Cisco Jabber and Desk Phone" section of the documentation
despite all that, it doesn't work
I tried with other accounts/mobiles and the result is the same.
Jabber does register to the CUCM and I can get my extension on the Jabber client and place/receive calls using my desk extension. But the "desk phone integration" doesn't work
What I noticed is that :
on the TCTXXXX "Cisco Dual Mode for iPhone" phone device setting page, there is no "Sign In Feature" option as described in the documentation
because we use Extension mobility the "Owner User ID" feature is disable on the desk phone device settings. I temporarily uncecked the "extension mobility" checkbox on the device, setup my ID as the "Owner User ID" and re-checked the "extension mobility" checkbox but the result is the same.
I searched the web and couldn't find anyone with similar issue...help will be appreciated

    Aaron,
    Thanks for you answer.
I have followed all the requirements explained in the "Administration Guide for Cisco Jabber for iPhone Release 9.0.1" including the one you mentioned :
the user is a member of  'Standard CTI Enabled'
CTI Controlled is allowed on the DN, the end user account and the desk phone
the end user is associated to both the desk phone and the TCT phone
And 'Allow End User Configuration Editing' is set to disable on the TCTxxxx device
Despite all that the "desk phone integration" doesn't work

  • Jabber and Gmail Don't Work on my iChat

Hello! I bought my Mac in August 2009. When I first bought it, gmail and Jabber worked iChat. But shortly after, it stopped working. It hasn't worked since then. Whenever I would try to create a Jabber or Gmail account on iChat, the words Jabber and Gmail would be grayed out and un-clickable. I recently upgraded to software version 10.6.6 and Jabber and Gmail still don't work on iChat. They're not grayed out anymore, they're just not there! Aim, Bonjour, MobileMe, and Mac.com accounts all work on my iChat.
Additionally, I took my Mac to the Genius Bar and they couldn't fix it!
Does anyone know how to fix my problem?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Sounds like you have Parental Controls turned On for the Mac User Account you are using.
I take it you are not seeing 5 choices in the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > + Button > New account Pane ?
The Start Up Screens do have the AIM login options (AIM, @Mac.com and MobileMe) on one pane/Screen and then the Bonjour option and the Jabber/Google options on another Screen/pane.
IF you are not logged on the Computer as the Admin Account the Mac User Account can have Parental Controls activated.
(System Preferences > Accounts - the account will be listed as "Managed"
Limiting iChat in Parental Controls stops you adding any Buddy List (Setting up a new account).
In iChat 4/OS 10.5.x Jabber and Bonjour are disabled completely (Just Bonjour in iChat 5/OS 10.6.x)
Your symptoms as described, if we are talking about the iChat Preferences way of Adding a New Account, does not seem to quite match the scenario I have described about Parental Controls, as you seem to still have access to setting up a new AIM name.
Did the Tech guy delete the .plists for iChat ?
Did he/she delete them 'En Masse' or one at a time with an iChat Restart in between ?

  • Jabber and Google Talk Issues

I use a Google Talk account, and I was delighted to see that iChat was compatible with it. However, one day it stopped working and I saw my account was deleted. I went to re-create it and Jabber and Google Talk are no longer choices I can choose from. I can see them, but I can't actually select them. Any help would be great, because a lot of my friends are Google Talkers.

Have you Enable Parental Controls on this Mac User Account ?
Have you set Parental Controls on another User Account and set iChat up with the same ID ?
(Have you used the same ID/Screen Name on another computer that has Parental Controls ?)
If you have and you have not allowed the Jabber Buddies to be listed or have not set the iChat part up in the first place you will have issues as Jabber (and therefore Googletalk) and Bonjour can be Blocked.
This more effects Leopard than it does Snow Leopard but that was why I hinted at other computers because it blocks the Buddies by Flagging them on the Server (this does not explain why you cannot access the choice in the current iChat)

  • Jabber and AIM/.Mac contacts in ONE window

I would like to have a single iChat window that combines the Jabber and AIM/.Mac buddies. That way I can log on to AIM directly from iChat (and use video/audio) and also be able to log on to google chat MSN via jabber gateways. I hate having two different windows for each buddy list.
I there a way of doing this with Leopard's iChat?

    Hi,
    I use several including GoogleTalk.
It is not about whether the server can do Audio or Video as Most Jabber Servers can not
iChat invokes it's A/V protocols whichever Buddy list it is in which do not use the same ports as any of the Buddy List's logins.
The A/V side is independent of the Text based side.
I have found that the Green icons show up.
This seems independent of whether the Jabber Server supports it.

  • Jabber and webex integration

    Hello everyone,
We're trying to integrate meeting place and webex with our presence service to allow Jabber and CUP users to use all of the available features we have.
We're having some issues to get webex up and running because we're getting a "The WebEx meeting account is invalid" message everytime we try to access from jabber.
If I go to meeting center I can successfully log in using the same credentials I'm using on jabber so I don't understand why it says the account is invalid.
This issue happens for all of the users. Have anyone seen this behaviour already?
    Thanks!!

We use Meeting Center rather than Meeting Place but I think the authentication is similar. The problem I had was since we use Meeting Center (cloud WebEx) and do not use SSO the accounts are different. Once the Not Set "Source for Web Conferencing" was configured, I was able to goto the client (Mac Jabber 8.6.2 in this case) and enter my credentials in Preferences -> Accounts -> Meetings

  • Jabber and Yahoo gateways

Having a problem using Jabber and a Yahoo gateway. I set up an account (using Psi) and that was successful. I can chat with others using Psi just fine. But when I set up iChat to do this it recognizes my account, logs me in but when I open a chat with a Yahoo buddy I see them typing but the message never appears. My Yahoo Messenger and Psi work just fine but iChat is a no go I've tried creating a new Jabber account (with Psi) same results. Tried it on 2 different computers - iBook G4 and 933 mhz QuickSilver G4. Same results. Anyone have any ideas?

    Strange.
I'm still having the same problem with the server you recommended. I'm wondering if there is something that I'm not configuring correctly in Psi or iChat.
    Just to reiterate the issue:
I can sign up for a Jabber account,
configure it using Psi (loading the yahoo and msn gateways),
    Log out of Psi,
Register the Jabber account in ichat and log in,
    What works:
The contacts appear in my iChat Jabber list,
Those that are online appear online
I can send a message out to the contact
    What doesn't work:
    Receiving incoming chats from buddies
Receiving replies to chats that I've initiated
    Actions I've taken so far:
Enabled port 5222 and 5223 on UDP and TCP
I've tried with SSL activated and deactivated
Any other ideas or recommendations for servers that are working?
    Thanks,
    ...Jamie
