Japanese (Kanji) to English conversion

Hello All,
Our Customer MM, vendor data is stored in Kanji in SAP.
How can we display this data in English?
Is there a special conversion setup or configuration we need?
Can someone please direct me to configuration steps.

Is your question in relation to SAP Business One? If it is you should post your question in the SAP Business One Discussion Forum.
With respect to your question ... SAP Business One does have the ability to allow different users to view the SAP Business One interface in the language they choose in the Administration area of SAP Business One, but that is translation for the Business One forms and labels. The data as stored in the database cannot be translated by the Business One application. All users will see the same data as stored in the database language chosen when the database was installed an configured.

Hi,
For the vendor there is not any auto conversion from Japanese to English.
When create the vendor in the Vendor master the user should select the Japanesh language to update the details. There is a option for international version, in that needs to maintain the English description.

What do I do in Kotoeri to have the furigana/pronuncation/reading of Japanese kanji display above the kanji characters in a Pages document?

iText Express does not seem to have furigana. It is anyhow not in the same place in the menu as iText Pro. It does have vertical writing, though, and that is not bad.
iText Pro and LightWayText have both vertical writing and furigana.
The real problem with all three applications is that the format of their Japanese features is not outwards compatible. I have not been able to save to any format that can be opened by any other furigana-able application, like OpenOffice or MS Office.
I would hesitate a lot before tying myself to a file format that is supported by just one application or company, and which cannot be opened by other applications. Hence my recommendation of OpenOffice, or, if you have access to a Japanese or English version, MS Word.
If someone finds a way to export the Japanese features to more standard file formats, the situation changes, of course.

ExportPDF uses OCR (optical character recognition) to convert image (scanned text) to editable/selectable text, but it doesn't translate from one language to another.

I am trying to install an Japanese DB on English OS by setting 'NLS_LANG =JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16EUC'. After creating the DB when I check the DB NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETER still it shows as AMERICAN_AMERICA.JA16SJIS. Can anybody help me out?

by setting 'NLS_LANG =JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16EUC'. AfterThis is a client side setting (even if you are using it on a database host). Details to be found in the NLS_LANG FAQ and a relevant section in your case might be the one about priority of nls parameters.

Replace Chinese Kanji character with Japanese Kanji and vice versa.

Maybe this thread is for someone who knows the difference between Chinese Kanji and Japanese Kanji.
So, let me ask you a question.
There are more than two characters in Kanji. Several ones for Chinese and one for Japanese Kanji.
For example, the word body can be written in Kanji as 體 in Chinese way and 体 in Japanese way.
But the meanings are same for these characters. And of course, unicodes for these two ones are different.
So about code, I'm developing a simple software for replacing a certain set of Chinese Kanji characters with Japanese Kanji characters.
Let's say there is a certain string.
string str_sentence=僕の體は大きいです。(Let's just ignore the meaning).
So I want to replace 體 with 体.
I used below code.
str_sentence.Replace(體, 体)
But it didn't work!
MessageBox.Show(str_sentence) showed original sentence without replacing the character!
So I assume that actually, .NET regards these two characters as same ones.
I tested below code.
if(體 != 体)
MessageBox.Show("Different!")
And it showed the message.
What do you think about this?

Replace doesn't replace characters 'in-situ'. It returns a new string with the replacement.
Try str_sentence = str_sentence.Replace(...)
or var new_sentence = str_sentence.Replace(...)
Strings in C# are immutable and can't be changed.

OSA - Japanese/Kanji Char support

I have a DW and bunch of OSA reports on top of this DW.
I need to upgrade OSA to support Japanese/Kanji characters.
1. Does OSA support Kanji char set?
2. If so, what version of OSA server do I need?
3. What version of OSA client do I need?
4. What changes have to be made in the DB initialization
parameters?
5. When I run a report, how can I figure out that the
user running the report needs data in Japanese?
Do I need this information as some kind of
local/user specific parameter or is this value
set/defined in the client software?

or allow me to drag any (even downloaded ones) into

If the Kotoeri main dictionary is missing or closed, this would explain your problem. To get this back you might need to reinstall.
I think adding a dictionary involves putting it in a folder and then using some tools from the Kotoeri Prefs. I don't know if this info for another dictionary would help:

The USA Regulatory Address Cleanse Transform does not accept Unicode
data. If an input record has characters outside the Latin1 code page
(character value is greater than 255), the USA Regulatory Address Cleanse
transform will not process that data. Instead, the input record is sent to the
corresponding standardized output field without any processing. No other
output fields (component, for example) will be populated for that record. If
your Unicode database has valid U.S. addresses from the Latin1 character
set, this transform processes as usual.

cleanly into Java.Isn't an operator only a function written in a special idiom?
So
x = a + b
is the same as
x = a.operator+( b )
If you simply search all those kinds of operator-function calls and replace them by calls of well-named functions, you get the same semantic and a better code.
The problem may be that + and the other operators are just the opposite of unique keywords, so you have the same long during manual searching as if you had used a lot of function names like x() or i().
I guess the major problem will be implicite casting by using complicated constructors.
There are some big design errors in C++ and in the code of programmers who have been misled by that philosophy, that
1) simple data types like int (no methods, no constructor, no identity) were seen adequate to real objects
2) objects can live on the stack (automatic destruction when scope is left) or on the heap (you must explicitely destruct).
Because Java fortunately avoids these features, you can't simply translate them into Java, but must rethink. Result will be a better design, I'm sure.
Examples for 1):

a == b ? Yes, because an int has no identity, only a value.
Object* x = new Object();
Object* y = new Object();
x == y? No, because they are pointers on different objects on the heap.

You will not be able to display the process form, or edit those values from the view profile screen.
You would need to create custom fields that are mapped from the process form to the user's profile. Then you would need to create user form update triggers from the User Defined Fields that when the user changes them, they get pushed to the target process form by adding those task names into the provisioning process definition. This would then trigger the updates to the target resource.

InDesign Japanese to InDesign English

Are there any issues that would prevent a file created in InDesign CS 4 (Japanese) file from being opened in InDesign CS 5 (US version)? We have a client that has asked us to create a file in Japanese and then to outline the fonts and send them the ID file. I am concerned that they may have some problems opening a file created in the J version.
In the past we have had instances where we have experienced errors that indicate a plug-in is missing when attempls are made to open J file with the US version and the file has no opened.

I've never tested CS4 J -> CS5 EN, but I do know that CS4 J -> CS4 EN works just fine. It's my understanding that the differences between CS4 J and CS4 EN are only in the UI, which is why it's possible to use templates or scripts to get access to the special Japanese typesetting tools not exposed in English CS4. (Which is what I do when I'm typesetting Japanese.)
I think that if you outline the fonts, you should be safe. However, I've never tested it, and I'm not 100% convinced that the CS4 -> CS5 conversion is 100% reliable even in Latin script. If you'd like (and if you have the freedom to do so), you can send me a PDF from your CS4 J and the outlined INDD and I'll open it up in CS5 EN and give it a once-over.

Japanese kanji keyboard on my new MB?!?!?!?

Just got my custom new aluminum MB in the mail and it's got kanji characters along with English characters on the keyboard and the keyboard is not laid out like a US keyboard. I was assuming it would look like the one pictured at Apple's site! I'm assuming I just need to return this, but is a serious buzzkill. Wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. A search for Japanese keyboard on the new MB forums didn't yield any info, but thought I'd as anyway...

Who shipped you that MB? In the past the only way people who wanted the special JIS Japanese keyboard could get one was to buy the machine in Japan, or buy the keyboard separately and replace the original.

Boot Camp, Vista, Japanese Kanji, Problems...

Ok, here's the deal. I just upgraded to Leopard and installed a Japanese copy of Vista Home Premium. However, even now that I have my computer running a Japanese copy of Vista with all the local settings in Vista switched to Japanese I still can't play my Japanese RPGs. The install window pops up with lots of gibberish characters and the game can't read or locate files because Vista isn't properly handling the Japanese characters. Is this due to the fact that I have Leopard set to English? Do I need to change everything on my computer to Japanese? Am I missing something? My Japanese isn't too bad, but it isn't great either so I'm wondering if I'm missing a simple problem where I'm just not understanding the kanji.
FYI, when I first installed Vista I switched the settings to a Japanese install, (the only option available,) and the keyboard/interface to English. However, even after I completed the install everything showed up in Japanese except for my Boot Camp assisstant which showed up totally in English. I then switched every setting in Windows I could find over to Japanese, but still no joy.
Any ideas? Please. I bought Vista just so I could play the games my Mac can't handle and if I can't figure out how to make this work I'm going to be really depressed. If no one can help can anyone point me to a place where I might be able to get help?

I'm really not sure about how your computer is set up but check in regional/language, and make sure japanese is set as the default, not english. English does get installed since most software uses it. Also, I have english version of Vista home premium and didn't want english. But rather Japanese, care to send me the iso of the japanese cd. I can't ask Microsoft because I have to pay 150 to start a help session...
