Japanese username and user.home

Hi,
I'm using the Java plugin 1.3.1 on Win2000 and XP, and I have the following problem:
I'm logging on a Windows machine using a japanese username. The user.home directory happens to include Japanese encoded characters. Because of this, the Java plugin is kind of going mad. It displays question marks instead of Japanese. For example, in the java console :
User home directory(<-this is actually correctly displayed in Japanese): C:\Documents And Settings\???
Then, it displays tons of 'NullPointerException' (probably because it can't find the user home directory correctly).
I would like to know if this is a bug in the plugin, a limitation in the Java API or something else.
Is there a way to overcome this problem ?
Thanks
Chris

Hi
I've found somekind of a work around, but it might mess up your windows security (if you use it).
With JRE 1.3.x, you can override your USERPROFILE variable to set it to, eg c:\temp.
This is the variable used by the JRE to determine the user.home value. Obviously, this redirects everything which happens in your user home directory (c:\documents and settings\xxxxxx) to happen in the new directory.
With JRE 1.4.x, you can set USER_JPI_PROFILE. Java will then take this variable to use it as user.home, and not the USERPROFILE variable.
I hope this can help you, it helped me a little (at least the JRE can start up).
I also found out, that eg would you be willing to load a CJK font via Font.createFont, that it tries to access the java.io.tempdir. This is also interpreted incorrectly (since it is located under your USERPROFILE directory in Windows 2000). You can override this one to in java itself to make font loading correct.
I hope this helps
If I find anything else, I'll let you know

  • Change account username and home folder issue

    Hello guys,
    Apple store re-installed Yosemite v10.10 on my MBA early 2014 (128gb, 4gb)
I wanted to change the account username and the home folder name after installation however I think I did it the wrong way to start with
    Step1
I went into System Preference > User Groups, unlocked padlock, ctrl+click on the admin account > advanced options and replaced account name and home folder name with new name (e.g. my computer). Both match.
Relocked padlock, quit system preferences. Rebooted.
    Step2
Then I realised that what I did, so I have did it all again after reading Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support
Could you please tell me whether step1 and step2 might have corrupted the operating system (e.g. legacy preferences, etc, etc)? How can I check that?
    Thank you for your support.

    Eric, thank you.
Actually Keychain access app has been malfuncitoning since Yosemite was installed and username and home folders were renamed.
    Sintomps
the following services and apps keeps asking to use "Login" keychain
    - Messages
    - Calendar Agent
    - Safari
    - ScopedBookmarkAgent
    - accountds
    - com.apple.helper
I always lock keychain. Keychain is sync with admin account password. Keychain verified and repaired. No problems found
I have followed this tutorial with no good result

  • Firefox won't start as soon as the User Home is on XSan

    Hi,
We are migrating our User Home Directories to XSan.
As soon as we copy the User Home Directory from the old Servervolume to XSan, Firefox 2.0 won't start, showing an alert, that it's already running.
Deleting the Firefox preferences in ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Application Support doesn't help either. Firefox then asks me to create a new profile. When this is done and a want to start with the new profile, FF tells me, that the Profile is already used.
Same thing with Camino and Firefox 1.5
Is anyone else having this issue?
    Greetings from Bavaria,
    ubwm

    @Robert:
Be assured we thought about all that. (And Apple Germany and some consultants did as well.)
We are now rolling out using a XSan environment and user homes without mobile accounts. Mobile accounts is no solution if you need to have 300 users using 200 machines and switching machines like crazy We would have all the machines cluttered by synced Home folders in no time. We know of the drawbacks but it's the only solution that fits our needs.
Our users are discouraged from keeping large amounts of own data on their Home, which is mostly for the Library and some personal files. We keep all our production data on specialized (and non-Apple) file servers, so searching is not as tremendous an issue. (We disabled spotlight and use EasyFind).

  • I have entered my username and password and the message comes up is "User name or password is incorrect" when I have tried to press ok and continue, it won't let me, it has frozen, the rest of the phone is working fine, it's just in the iclound screen

I have entered my username and password and the message comes up as User name or password is incorrect, this has frozened this page - so I am unable to use my settings, the rest of the phone is working fine

    Try "resetting" the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Home Hub Username and password

    Hi,
I was trying to access the basic configuration of my home hub in the Hub Manager and I was asked to enter my username and password. I have no idea what my user name is and have tried using the SN on the back of my hub but alas it does not work. Can you help please.

    Hello headers2,
Don't worry - the factory reset really won't make things worse. The Homehub is configured to connect to broadband out of the box. So long as you've never fiddled with Wifi settings, then you could factory reset it. You would have to re-register your Hub phones afterwards.
Here is how to do it:

  • 4402 guest users authetication via Web (username and password)

    Hello Everyone,
We have an issue with Wireless controller model 4402 loaded with 4.0.179.11. This box has stopped authenticating (Layer3 security Web Policy based local usernames and password) last night.
Steps taken to resolve the issue:-
    1) Created local usernames and password via Web and tried using wireless through Guest ssid, when user enters this information web page loops back to authentication.
    2) Tried authenticating via another Laptop, had no luck.
    3) Changed WLAN SSID Guest from Layer3 security Web Policy to Layer2 Security, created Mac filter table for guest on the Controller. Guest was able to connect to the internet.
We have not made any configuration change. As this issue affected all Users, we restarting the controller after which issue was resolved. As per my colleagues this has happened couple of times and every time restart fixes this issue.
Please shed some light on this.

  • Admin username and Home Sharing & Permissions name don't match

When I originally installed the OS on my iMac and MacBook, since I entered my full first and last names, that became my Admin user name. While attempting to address a 10.5.6 upgrade problem [below fyi], I used Accounts Preference on both to change to Jim (Me). This didn't solve the problem and, wanting to type less, I changed both to just Me. However, now when I Get Info on my Home directory and examine Sharing & Permissions, it still lists Jim (Me). Why didn't that change? Can I change it? Does it matter?
My problem: After "upgrading" to 10.5.6, I can't "see" my Home directory on either Mac when connecting via AirPort or Firewire. On both machines, I have set prefs so the Home directory is shared. I select the Shared file server in the Finder. (Oddly enough, the default name that appears when I attempt to connect is just Jim and, no matter what I enter, the next time I try to connect, it defaults to Jim.) Anyway, I enter my username and password. I see the home directory of that Mac as well as the other Mac. I select the other Mac but the only User directory that appears is the Shared directory -- my Home directory doesn't appear. (It did under 10.5.5 so I'm stymied.)

To fix this (so my files would show) I used NetInfo Manager to change the admin and user values.
If you change the name(not home) property of an administrator account without updating the membership of the admin group, that account will lose administrator access to the machine; it is possible to create a situation where there are no administrator accounts on the machine through this method. In this case, follow these instructions on one of the accounts which previously had administrator access.

  • I'm trying to access a forum that requires a user name and password.  When I do it on my mac it tells me the password is incorrect but when I do it on my iPad, I can access it without any problem.  I can confirm the username and password are the same

I am trying to access a forum for which you need a username and password but it keeps telling me the username/password i've entered are incorrect.  Bizarrely, when I enter the same username/password combination on my iPad, it grants access without any problem.
What could be causing this, is it an issue with cookies, caches or similar.  How can I resolve it?  The forum administrator is at a loss as to what the problem is.

Try the following steps in Safari to see if they help:
    1) First try clearing the Safari cache.  To do this pull down the Safari menu and select 'Empty cache...', then try logging into the site again.
    2) If the issue continues then reset Safari by pulling down the Safari menu and select'Reset Safari...'. You will be presented with a list of items that can be reset. I suggest selecting the 'Reset saved names and passwords', and 'Remove all website data' options at a minimum.
Here is a list of the options and what they do. I pulled it from the Safari help page.
    Clear history:
Clears the list of webpages you viewed.
    Reset Top Sites:
Clears any changes you made to Top Sites, such as adding or pinning sites. If you also clear your history, your Top Sites page reverts to showing the webpage previews displayed when you first installed Safari.
    Remove all webpage preview images:
Clears any thumbnail images Safari saved of webpages you viewed.
    Clear the Downloads window:
Clears the list of files you downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.
    Remove all website icons:
Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the Safari address field and bookmarks list, and other places. These icons are stored on your computer.
    Remove saved names and passwords:
Removes user names and passwords that Safari automatically fills in at websites that require them (if the AutoFill feature is turned on).
    Remove other AutoFill form text:
Removes some personal information, such as telephone numbers, that Safari uses to automatically fill in forms on webpages (if the AutoFill feature is turned on). Removing AutoFill information does not remove information from your address book.
    Close all Safari windows:
If you don’t close all Safari windows, someone could use the Back and Forward buttons to view the webpages you visited.
    Reset all location warnings:
Clears any information websites saved about your location.
    Remove all website data:
Removes cookies, tracking information, and other data that websites stored on your computer.

  • I changed my username and now afp doesn't show any users. I have file sharing on. And also when I select "get more info" on the shared folders they don't have my username in there. it just has "applepc(me)" it my old username before changing it.

I changed my username and now afp doesn't show any users. I have file sharing on. And also when I select "get more info" on the shared folders they don't have my username in there. it just has "applepc(me)" my old username before changing it showed the correct username? please any help would be great.

Turn Time Machine OFF temporarily in its preference pane. Leave the window open.
Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the disk image file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Find the one you want to restore from. There's a link named "Latest" representing the most recent snapshot. Use that one, if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to remember the date of the snapshot you choose.
Inside the snapshot folder is a folder hierarchy like the one on the source disk. Find one of the items you can't restore and select it. Open the Info dialog for the selected item. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you may see an entry in the access list that shows "Fetching…" in the Name column. If so, click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate. Then delete the "Fetching…" item from the icon list. Click the gear icon below the list and select Apply to enclosed items from the popup menu.
Now you should be able either to copy the item in the Finder or to restore it in the time-travel view. If you use the time-travel view, be sure to select the snapshot you just modified. If successful, repeat the operation with the other items you were unable to restore. You can select multiple items in the Finder and open a single Info dialog for all of them by pressing the key combination option-command-I.
When you're done, turn TM back ON and close its preference pane.

  • Preferences under the user home in win and linux

    hi,
how can i save my looger-file under the user home and not in the registry usw.? under my user home in windows i see lots of .PROGRAMNAME directorys! is there any class for using that?

Preferences or log files? Your title says "preferences" and your text says "looger" (which I'm assuming is just a typo).
If you want to store user-specific data (aka preferences), then use the new java.util.preferences classes and use the user context.
If you want to store files (like log files) in the user's directory, then use the System property DrClap suggested to get the directory name.

  • Users prompted for username and password after sharing removed from servers

    Hello Community
On Sharepoint 2010 Server using the UI in a 2 server farm with an intranet running on it and everything functions as it should.  However it was noticed that from a users computer when in "Windows Explorer" if "Network"
is clicked the 2 servers are visible.
The problem is that when the server are clicked on in Windows Explorer the files and folders on the hard drive of the servers are visible too.
Subsequently I logged onto the server and when into "Properties' - "Sharing" and
unchecked the checkbox to "Share this folder".
That solved the problem of the users being able to see and access the files
and folders on servers hard drives but now when the users log onto the intranet
they are prompted for a user name and password and even when they provide the user
name and password and the page is returned the prompt appears on the screen again(then they cancel out).
What can be done about the user being prompted for username and password without sharing the drives on the servers ?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

What exactly was shared out from the SharePoint server's file system? There are certain things that are shared by default.

    Hi,
Did it work correctly before when logging in with domain user account? If so, please try opening Control Panel > Credential Manager and remove the cached credential entry of the Outlook account, and then restart Outlook to test the issue again.
    See:

  • Outlook asking for username and password, but only for some users

    Hello, I'm
in an Exchange Server 2013 client
    environment, two CAS servers
    and two Mailbox.
Some users are having trouble in Outlook 2007
    and 2012, which is directly
requesting the user name and password, not all,
    just some.
    The Active Directory is ok,
    DNS and also own Exchange
servers apparently do not see errors.
Has anyone here ever experienced this?
How can I solve this problem?
As this happens only to some users
and the vast majority have no problems, so
    difficult to find the cause.
    Thank you!
    Ivanildo Teixeira Galvão

    Hi Ivanildo,
From your description, only some users have an issue that Outlook prompts for username and password. In your case, I recommend you compare the normal and problematic Outlook settings. Here is the Outlook settings in my environment for your reference:
    1. "Always prompt for logon credentials" isn't checked.
    2. Logon network security using Negotiate Authentication.
    3. "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" is checked.
    4. Use the NTLM Authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Help with "Admin user requires valid username and password" on fms2_console.swf page

Just installed FMS2 on Debian (etch, 2.16.5-1 kernel). When I
connect to localhost:1111/fms2_console.swf and get the infamous XML
output which includes the text, "Admin user requires valid username
and password." The *.xml and *.ini files haven't been touched after
installation. All four daemons (fmsedge, fmsmaster, fmscore,
fmsadmin) are running and listening on the correct ports.
Any tips? (I'm sure this is easy to solve...)
    Thanks.

    Hi,
FMIS 4.5 does not accept plain text password. Encrypt=false is no longer supported. See here for more information : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926 bcf-7fed.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926bcf-7e91
The value for SERVER.ADMIN_PASSWORD needs to be the encrypted string for your password. That should solve your problem.
    Hope this helps.
