JRE vs. Plug-in

People,
what's the difference between them ??? which one includes another one ???
what do i need to run signed applets ???
PLEASE HELP !!!

Plug-in is registry a DLL as system object.
JRE is total JAVA running time component, included Plug-in of JAVA.
At examples directory.
if java is embed in web page via Plug-in,
<OBJECT
classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0014-0000-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA"
WIDTH = 100 HEIGHT = 100
</OBJECT>
unlike routine method.
<applet codebase="./" code="Clock.class" width="170" height="150">
If setup JRE no registry with Internet Explorer, you cannot start Sun JAVA by second method. yet you can running SUN JAVA via Plug-in in Internet Explorer.

  • Force using older versions JRE & Java Plug-in as default version from IE

    We have a web application that relies on JRE on client machines. It works properly with verion 1.4.2.xxx. Recently some of the users got updated to Version 1.5.0 automatically (auto-update feature). Now the web application doesn't work as expected on those machines.
    I want to know if there is any specific way I can force a machine to use an older version as a default version i.e. without completely removing the new version.
    I already tried various tricks like changing registry settings, Env Variables, etc. The default version changes when accessed through command prompt (java -version), but when I go back to the web page, it still loads the New version.
    Appreciate your advise. Thanks.

    Hi,
    I was wondering if you ever found a solution to this issue. I am having a simlar issue where we have 3 JRE versions on our terminal server.
    1.4.2
    1.5.9
    1.6.3
    But we would like the browsing JRE to remain using 1.4.2.
    An ideas would be great .

  • Cannot load Java plug-in and access R12 Oracle form from client

    Hi, one of my user cannot open Oracle form when accessing R12 environment using IE6. After selecting responsibility and menu, it got stuck after 50% processing when trying to load Java applet. It never got completed even after waiting for 2-3 hours.
    Is there any browser setting that needs to be modified? I checked popup blocker and activeX setting. All seem to be in order. Kindly assist. Thanks.

    Hi,
    What is the difference between this client and other clients?
    Delete the browser cache/history files and check then. If this does not help, enable trace for JRE (as per Note: 549423.1 - How to enable tracing and logging for Sun JRE (Native Plug-in)) and see if it shows any errors when you encounter this issue.

  • Oracle Forms loading slower with Sun JRE in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i

    Hi,
    After Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i (Note 290807.1) we find that Oracle Forms are loading slower than using Jinitiator.
    Also the PDF reports are opening in a minimized fashion. Meaning the PDF reports are opening correctly in new browser window (as expected) but is minimized.
    Customer is not willing to go live with Sun JRE due to these issues.
    Plz advice is there is any additional configuration I need to do.
    Rgds,
    Thiru

    When the JRE was installed/configured on the workstations was the jar cache placed on a LAN drive instead of the local drive? We have experienced poor performance with both the JRE and Jinitiator when the Workstation Sysadmins configured the jar cache to be located on a LAN drive. Also is the size of the jar cache on the workstation sufficient to hold all of your required jar files. It could be downloading the jar files all the time.
    Overall our performance with the JRE is comparible to the Jinitiator.
    Sorry I have not experienced the problem that you are having with you pdf reports so I can't provide any comments on it.

  • Java Plug Ins

    What is the security problem with Java plug ins and do I need to disable Java plug ins on my Mac computers?

    The newly discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.
    You should disable Java (if not already done) until either the US Department of Homeland Security, or Oracle, declare it safe and Apple restore the facility. Javascript should not be disabled (it has nothing to do with Java).
    However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at

  • Developer 6i upgrade patch 19 JRE doubt

    As part of the Developer 6i patch 19 You have to follow the Doc 290807.1 to upgrade Sun JRE
    I was reading the following section
    Step 2. Rename the JRE Plug-in and Place it on Webserver
    Rename the downloaded JRE Native plug-in file from jre-6_uX-windows-i586-p.exe to j2se160X.exe
    (Where X = the version number. (For single digit version numbers, please prefix the version number with a zero). Using jre-6u7 as an example X would be 07, so the file would be renamed j2se16007.exe).
    Step 2.1.1. Place the JRE 6 Plug-in on the Web Application Tier
    Move the j2se160X.exe file to the web application tier and place it in $[COMMON_TOP]/util/jinitiator.
    I have a few doubts.....
    My webserver is a linux server .....The file I downloaded is a windows file .....Is the step okay ...am I missing something ?

    Hi,

  • Using the Sun JRE

    Hi.  We currently force the use for Java 6, version 22 by placing this code in the formsweb.cfg file:
    [code]
    ### Define the default SUN JRE
    ### Java Plug-in 6 22
    jpi_download_page=http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/
    ### Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin

    ### Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin

    ### Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin
    jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.6.0_22

    If I want to change this confirguration so that users always use the latest version of the Sun JRE, how would I modify this code?

    Hi.  Thank you so much!
    Is there a reason I would want to let users use any version of Java 1.6, but not Java 1.7?  Is it not possible to use the same logic, but to allow the users to use any version of Java 1.7?  Or is it unwise for some reason?
    I'm just curious because sometimes my users are automatically prompted to install the latest version of Java, which is version 7, update 45 (I believe).  And when they do that installation then our Web Form applications start to prompt them that they need to install the correct version of the plug-in.  So I uninstall version 7, update 45 and Web Forms is fine again.  Any thoughts on the best way to be handling the Java plug-ins?
    Hello Sharpe,
    Good Day. From your post we don't know what is your application server version. guess 10.x.x.x.x as you are talking about JRE 1.6.
    JRE 1.7 is not compatible with AS 10.x.x.x.
    So, if your user wish to install JRE 1.7, make sure JRE 1.6 also installed in the same pc. Now what can you do ? Yes. you can restrict a web browser to run only selected Java plugins not other one. You can manage this from Add-Ons manage settings.
    This restrict user, use specific browser for you application.
    Hope this helps
    Hamid

    Thanks for the suggestions ChuckBing.
    However, the OS is an actual French/German/etc installation, not an English installation of Vista that have had the regional settings modified.
    I did seem to find a solution, though. It seems like the online JRE installer Update 2 works on foreign installations of Windows Vista. I was using the original 1.6.0 JRE online installer.
    So my own fault for not using the latest install, but I partially blame Sun for even allowing me to download a broken installer.

  • Different JRE Versions

    Hi ,
    We are running our application hosted in 10g Release 2 version 10.1.2.3.
    As Only JRE 1.5.0.9 and above is supportable client software we are using 1.5.0.9 for our forms applications. However in one of our client place we have a Java application which uses 1.6 and above releases of JRE. Now we have 2 different versions of JRE installed in a PC. How to make sure only our forms application is using only 1.5.0.9 and not any thing else, because by default it picks up the highest version of JRE software installed in the client PC.
    So in essence even if higher versions of JRE is installed in the client PC my forms application should pick up only the version i have mentioned in formsweb.cfg file and not any other version of JRE software installed in client PC.
    We are forced to this option because there are some known issues if we run our application apart from JRE 1.5.0.9.
    Request the forum users to participate and help me out of this.
    Thanks

  • Different JRE versions coexisting

    Hello everyone;
    I need two have two different versions of jre coexisting within the same oracle instance. The platform is Tru64, Oracle 8.0.6 nad the two versions of JRE are JRE 1.1.8 and 1.2.8.
    Has anyone tried something like this before?
    Any input will be highly appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • 1.4.1 JRE Support

    Hi,
    Does Oracle Workflow support the 1.4.1 JRE (or plugging in any other JRE)?
    I am hoping to be able to develop a workflow-based app using Java functions/activities but I would like to be able to use new classes/features in 1.4.1. I would also potentially like to reuse classes from other projects within my organization, which may be written to the 1.4.1 features.
    Also, are there any significant downsides to using Java activities instead of PL/SQL?
    Thank you.
    -Suren

    Raja,
    Thank you for your reply. Just to confirm, only the workflow engine embedded in iAS 904 supports 1.4.1 and the standalone version does not?
    To clarify, there is not necessarily a middle tier app calling through to the engine, though that may be one aspect of the system. My concern with JDK support stems from the fact that we would like to use Java functions via the activity agent. The functions that we write may leverage existing Java library code, some of which may rely on 1.4.1 functionality. In this case, we would need the JRE that is used by the Java function activity agent to support 1.4.1.
    From your response, it seems that the engine bundled with iAS 904 does support this but the standalone workflow engine may not.
    Is this accurate and a correct understanding of your reply? Thank you.
