[JS CS3 Mac&Pc] Enabling automatic localization problem

Hi all,
I’m trying to enable automatic localization in my script, as described in ‘Localization in ScriptUI Objects’ section of ‘JavaScript Tools Guide’ for CS3 (pages 87-88).
I try the first example and it works as expected:
$.locale = "fr";
w = new Window('dialog', 'Test');
btnText = { en: "Yes", de: "Ja", fr: "Oui", ru: "Да" };
b1 = w.add ( "button", undefined, localize(btnText) );
w.show();
Then I read the following:
>If you do not need variable replacement, you can use automatic localization. To turn on automatic
>localization, set the global value:
>$.localization=true
I really don’t need variable replacement in my script and don’t want to type localize() around every string over and over again, because there are countless numbers of them.
So automatic localization is just what the doctor ordered. I try the second example, but instead of the localized string I get ‘Object’.
$.locale = "fr";
$.localize = true;
w = new Window('dialog', 'Test');
btnText = { en: "Yes", de: "Ja", fr: "Oui", ru: "Да" };
b1 = w.add ( "button", undefined, btnText );
w.show();
Any1 have any ideas?
Kasyan

Kasyan,
You need this:
>b1 = w.add ( "button", undefined, String (btnText));
It's indeed not what you's espect from the description in the guide.

  • CS3/Mac photoshop.executeScript problem

    Hello
    I am having trouble getting photoshop.executeScript() to work on CS3/Mac. photoshop.executeScript is a simple wrapper for BridgeTalk and I want to call it from InDesign.
    I have seen reports of others being unable to get it to work. However, I have also seen reports of people doing InDesign/Photoshop cross DOM scripting.
    Using ESTK2 the following 1-line script works with target apps bridge, illustrator and indesign but not photoshop (unless photoshop is also the host):
    app.executeScript("alert((12345678).toString());");
    I would like to know whether this is a problem specific to my installation.
    I have also looked at how BridgeTalkIterator in the Bridge CS3 WasScriptLibrary.jsx does things and can't figure out how I might get photoshop.executeScript to work for me in InDesign.
    Any clues would be much appreciated...

    There is no app.executeScript function in PS.
    photoshop.executeScript('alert("testing")') works fine for me from ESTK2 and
    from in PSCS3 on XP.

    Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
    I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
    How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

  • Enable Automated Installation Problems

    I'm having trouble completing a NetRestore/NetInstall restore to computer. I have a Mac Mini that is firewired to a Mac Mini Server 10.6.2. I'm using the Mac Mini as the source.
    Whenever I create either a NetRestore or NetInsall of the Mac Mini it installs fine to another Intel Mac without trouble as long as I either use the non-customized button or do a customize with only the following config...
    Create image
    type: Netinstall
    Install Volume: graphics
    Save to: NetBootSP0
    Image Name:
    Network Disk: Netinstall Graphics Erase
    Image Index: 1580
    Description: Netinstall Graphics Erase
    But when I add in Enable Automated Installation...
    Define Image Source: graphics
    Enable Automated Installation: auto
    Erase Before Installing: English
    Create image
    type: Netinstall
    Install Volume: graphics
    Save to: NetBootSP0
    Image Name:
    Network Disk: Netinstall Graphics Erase
    Image Index: 1580
    Description: Netinstall Graphics Erase
    I'll get a big Yellow error message after a couple of minutes: Install failed: The Installer could not start up the computer from the disk, auto. Try selecting your disk using the Startup Disk utility.
    This problem only happens when I use Enable Automated Installation. I've never had trouble with 10.5 Leopard Server doing this. At first I thought it was the workflows taken from 10.5 but then I created new ones though the same problem continued.
    Also, even though I've included the Install Volume name the destination drive it never gets renamed that. It just keeps the original name, not that this matters that much to me. The big problem is I can't get the Enable Automated Installation to work.
    I've tried both NetInstall and the NetRestore tab but neither work with using Enable Automate Installation
    Any ideas? I've tried Apple Tech Support but no help so far.
    Thanks,
    Todd

    When i make call from iphone,loudspeaker is being enabled automatically and not able to  hear any sound ..
    And some time it's worked...

    OMG.....this very tiny hole located next to the headset jack........I suffered for the same issue around 20 days after purchasing my iPhone 4S. Even I visit the apple store too, they suggested to talk with apple online.....just before going to apple, i was reading "iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting" (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802) and at the very first line, i found "Make sure that nothing is blocking the top microphone (located next to the headset jack)." and this located next to the headset jack solved the problem completely for sound in vidio as well as sound with calling speaker phone.....Actually, I purchased a plastic cover (like screen protector type) that blocked this small hole (microphone hole i think) and the problem was because of this...I remember on the first day i talk with speacker phone (nothing on iPhone at that time) and it was working...
    No need to restore or hard reset anything...i was fearing i'll lost everything if I hard reset my iPhone that took 5-10 to build my iPhone as I like apps, music, vidio on it....

    Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?
    Hi all!
    I just today installed CS 3 Web Premium on my G5 (Dual 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.9, all updates installed). The install seems to succeed, and I've activated the suite, and all the other applications launch without a problem. But Photoshop doesn't. It shows the splash screen and gets as far as "Initializing Suites" when it drops off the face of the earth, and I'm prompted to send a crash report to Adobe (done).
    I've tried restarting the Mac, re-installing just Photoshop, and even creating a new Admin user and trying it there, but Photoshop still crashes in the same place. So it's apparently nothing in my user account or just a randomly mucked-up install.
    I did a search here for "initializing suites" but nothing came up, and even Google found just one other report of a CS3 crash at exactly that point, so a) it's not common, but b) it's nevertheless not just me. Hmm.
    Has anybody seen this? I'm funkified...
    Pres

    Ramón is exaggerating.
    First: find the uninstaller in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and TRY to run it even though you already deleted the application.
    If it won't DO anything, go to Macinosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Preferences and delete the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings folder (and its content) PLUS the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Paths file in same location, PLUS the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file in same location.
    Then try to reinstall again.
    If that doesn't work, run the cs3 clean again. Note that it is a script and that it asks you questions that you have to answer to and type in replies to for it to do anything. I fyou donät interact with it it won't do a thing. Note that it might clean out more adobe files than you would wish for.
    There are instructions here
    for how to unisntall the public beta of Photoshop CS3 but you might be able to follow those also for a non-beta. There are no instructions for manually removing Photoshop CS3 at the support center as far as I can see (on the other hand it is next to impossible to find anything on the support pages by doing a search.. search for Photoshop CS 3 for Mac and get articles about Illlustrator or CS...).

  • CS3 Mac: Button highlights preview and show on computer but not set top player

    Hi,
    I have a pretty simple project on CS3 Mac Encore (all Apple & Adobe updates except Quicktime is 7.3.1). It consists of three menus which started as Photoshop files with the button overlays done in Photoshop.
    I have been DVD authoring a long time on DVD Studio Pro and am an expert with After Effects, so I had no problems setting up the DVD on Encore. It previews perfectly, and when I burn it to DVD, it plays perfectly on my Mac. However, when I tried to play it on two different set top DVD players (both high quality - one JVC and one Panasonic) the button highlights do not show up at all -- you can't tell at all which button is active.
    I hunted through the posts here and at other forums, and the only suggestions that I have found are that it might be a corrupted project. I have tried trashing the preferences, repairing permissions, and rebooting, and the problem persists. It is a very new installation (I recently formatted the drive, and installed a fresh OS with Apple's suite and Adobe's suite because of the recent Quicktime 7.4 bug).
    So... I will try to create a new project and see if this still happens. In the meantime, has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks,
    Graham Jones.

    I'm having the same problems with a very simple dvd I created. 1 main menu (static background image and buttons from the encore library) and 1 scene selection menu (static background with the same button). Ouput to dvd -r and have 100% playback on computer, but I'm having varied playback on set top players. The dvd's play, but button highlight is not visible. The dvd will navigate as long as you count the clicks of the remote... I have duped 40 copies and my client couldn't play them on several different dvd players he has. We have tried them on several of our own players and not found a problem, but I traveled to his site and checked myself; they don't work. The 2 players that wouldn't display the highlights are a jvc dr-mv5su and a brand new durabrand sts96. I have re-created my dvd using dvd architect and they play fine on all the players (using a standard underlined text highlight). Any suggestions??? I really don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I am new to Encore CS3 Mac.

  • I don't want Mac Mail to automatically download mail when I open that application

    I don't want Mac Mail to automatically download mail when I open that application. Is there a way to stop that? I can't find it in preferences. I have Check for new messages: Manually.
    Also, don't want Mail to automatically download on my iPhone 4S and iPad 3.
    Thanks

    Hi ctconnor;
    Since there are no virus for OS X, I seriously doubt that is what is causing your problem here.
    My suggestion open System Preferences then Accounts followed by Login Items. Once there deselect Microsnot Word.

  • TaskProgress bar and CS3 Mac

    All:
    The behaviour between the PC and Mac versions of CS3 TaskProgressBar appear to be different.
    On the PC, as in previous SDK's, when a user cancels, all work preformed before the cancel is still in the document. With the CS3 Mac version, all work is removed on the cancel.
    Is there a flag or way to leave the partially completed work? I have checked to see if I am calling any AbortCmdSequances and this is not the case. If I put code in to periodically save before the cancel, I can revert the file and see the unfinished work up to the point of the last save, so I know the functions themselves are executing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Liz

    Ok,
    The problem is not the TaskProgressBar, it is the Preview mode.

  • Mac mini - no automatic stop

    Beginning of November I brought my wonderful mac mini (late 2009) to service support centre because it did not go any longer to automatic stop when timer expired. Initially they simply did not understand the problem and I received the mac mini back without solution. So I called immediately Apple Italy directly and in two more weeks they changed the mobo. Clearly they skipped the analysis of the trouble (it's not a HW problem most probably) so I had again the mac back without solution. So we were 45 days after first call and still far from a solution. But the really incredible parts is still going to come!! Following the suggestion from Apple Italy I brought the mac mini to another service centre. December 23 I got a call: I am told that it's a SW problem which comes with Mac Os X 10.6.5 and I have to wait for a coming OS releases!! This is the judgment from Service Centre and Apple too!! I had a long call with Apple and after a lot of pressure they are now analyzing the problem and looking for a better solution (NOW??!!). At this point anyone can help, please?
    1) Anybody had a similar problem? I had a look on forums and it does not seem to be a common problem. In case that Apple does not declare the trouble as a OS trouble I cannot accept to have a solution in future release with no date and no assurance to have a solution at the end.
    2) Anyone can suggest what can I do more? now it's 2 months without solution and be in contact with Apple directly seems no useful.
    tks,
    Andrea

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    I am not understanding your problem! What is "automatic stop when timer expired"? Are you trying to say that the Mac does not automatically go to sleep?
    Software, including Apple software, has to guarantee and is not covered by the Apple Warranty. You are lucky that the service centers did not charge you for the time.

    I have iCloud successfully set up my Mac and iPhone   iPad. Mac will not transfer to my other devices. Other devices transfer successfully. I have checked my iCloud setting on my Mac, but cannot see a problem. Can you help me?

    If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
    If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
    Has your iPad been synced to the computer before ? If not then you might find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • Is there a why to stop the box that pops up demanding a password to enable automatic downloads every time I open iTunes?

    Everytime I open itunes a box prompts me to enter a password to enable automatic downloads so I hit 'cancel' and it goes away, then it comes bck soon after. Is there a way of disabling this? It's as bad as getting pop up ads, only it's coming from Apple. VERY annoying.

    I have experienced the same problem. Here's what worked for me.
    I did all three so I cannot say for sure which step was the successful one.
    (1) iTunes > Preferences > Store. Uncheck everything that has to do with Automatic Downloads. (From now on if I want to check on the status of any downloads I will do it manually. No big deal. That beats having to enter my password every time I launch iTunes.)
    (2) iTunes > Store menu. Select Authorize This Computer. The response is that it is already authorized. The thinking here is that it resets the authorization.
    (3) iTunes > Store menu. Turn off Genius. (Bummer, because I kind of like Genius. Oh well.)
    (4) iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Click Reset Warnings and Reset Cache. (Again, clean house to see if that helps.)
    So far this has worked. No more constant requests for my iTunes password upon launching iTunes.

  • Keychain: How to enable automatic access for certain applications?

    I have gotten really tired of Adium and Skype asking for the keychain password every time I reboot the machine, and Quicksilver neeing my system password all the time when installing updates.
    How do I enable automatic access to the keychain and system password for certain applications, but not all?
    PowerBook G4, 1.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi, Bjørn.
    A. You wrote: "I have gotten really tired of Adium and Skype asking for the keychain password every time I reboot the machine..."There are two things to check. You'll use Keychain Access — in the Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities folder — for both.
    One key point to note before you begin: If the affected account was created under Jaguar, it's default keychain will have the same name as the account's short name. Accounts created under Panther or later have the default keychain name of "login." The user's default keychain is always highlighted in bold in the Keychains list in Keychain Access. All of the instructions in Mac Help regarding keychain assume the accounts were created under Tiger and always refer to keychain "login."
    Here are the two issues to check and correct:
    1. The affected account may have its keychain preferences set so that the keychain locks automatically after a period of inactivity or after sleep mode:1.1. Select the user's default keychain.
    1.2. Click Edit > Change Settings for Keychain "keychain_name."
    1.3. Deselect the checkbox next to "Lock after __ minutes of inactivity", if selected.
    1.4. Deselect the checkbox next to "Lock when sleeping", if selected.
    1.5. Click Save.2. The affected account's login password and keychain password are different. Set the keychain password on that account to be the same as the account's login password. See “Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing your keychain password.”
    Once those steps are taken, if an application requests access to the keychain, click Always Allow.
    Note that if you update applications, i.e. install later versions, you may be asked once to confirm the new version's access to your keychain. That's a standard security precaution.
    B. You wrote: "...Quicksilver neeing my system password all the time when installing updates."That cannot be prevented if that application is installed in the Macintosh HD > Applications folder using an installer, such as the Mac OS X Installer. Authentication is required if an installer will add or change files in either Applications or other System-related folders.
    Good luck!

Once I saw that the wrong account was displayed I went ahead and entered the password for that apple id but the Ipad msg says that its the wrong if for this IPad. I need to be able to have my IPad sync with my personal id.
