Judder Effect from 3D Camera Renders

I have a 10 second camera pan (90 degree rotation) of a room.  It has been rendered out from 3ds max.  Each image looks great.  When I put it together in AfterEffects, and render it out, I am getting a Judder effect (a vibration as I go across the pan).
How can I get this to stop.  I need a smooth pan.
thank you.

It important to understand that the Judder is caused by the timing of the movement in conjunction with the refresh rate of your display and the frame rate of the video. If your shot is juddering at the standard playback frame rate of your deliverable the only option you have is to change the timing of the move.
Here is the approach that I would take.
Start a new AE project and import your original image sequence
Select the image sequence in the Project panel and go to File>Interpret Footage> and check the frame rate (the default is 30 fps, I set my default to 29.97 in preferences because that is what I normally use)
Set the frame rate to match the frame rate of your desired final render
With the image sequence selected in the Project panel go to File>New Comp From Selection (or right click and select New Comp From selection, or drag to the new comp icon)
Set composition window resolution to Auto and zoom factor to 50% and do a ram preview to check for Judder (Verify the playback frame rate in the info panel)
If you do not observe Judder then render a full resolution test using the Adobe Media Encoder and the YouTube or Vimeo Preset that matches your comp's frame rate and check the test for Judder
If the test render exhibits juddering then return to ae and go to Step 10
If you observe judder in the RAM preview then step through the comp one frame at a time using the page down key to check for duplicate frames or inconsistent motion especially at the horizontal or vertical edges of the objects in the shot (Be sure to flush your cache and purge everything before doing this step)
If the motion between is not consistent and predictable then solve that problem by redoing your image sequence
If the motion in the frame is consistent then Enable Time Remapping on the layer and change the position of the last keyframe by moving it to the left or right about 10% of the timeline
Enable Frame Blending
Step through the image sequence a frame at a time to check the look of the frames
Try a RAM Preview at 50% Zoom factor
If everything looks good render another test using the AME
If the Test is OK, you're done. If not, make further adjustments in the timing and try again.
If the timing of the shot cannot be changed then do something with the design to change the relative movement between frames. Make the layer 3D, auto orient to the camera, add a camera and do a camera move on the shot. Animate the position of the shot in the frame. Change the scale of the shot comp. Anything that changes the position of the edges of horizontal or vertical detail between frames will eliminate judder. You can mask Judder by using motion blur, but this bandaid is usually not very effective.
I hope this helps. If your shot is right on the 'critical pan speed' then you have no choice but to change the timing.

Under the iOS7 details, it said there would be colour effects effects for your camera. I downloaded iOS7 and I didn't get them. All my friends have it except for me and my family. Could someone please tell me why we aren't getting it?

  • AVIs from AE need rendering in PPro

I'm an AE novice, so this is probably something simple.  When I use AVI files from AE compositions in Premiere Pro, they require rendering (have the red line above them even where there are not effects or transitions) while AVIs captured from my camera or generated by Premiere Pro's "Export Movie" do not.  A second render is a waste of resources and probably a loss of quality, so I'd like to get things configured so that PPro is happy with my AE-rendered AVIs the way they are.
My PPro project settings are DV NTSC, 29.97 fps, 720x480, pixel aspect ratio 0.9, display format 30fps drop-frame.  My AE project settings are Timecode Base: Auto, NTSC: Drop Frame.  I'm sure there is simply some setting that isn't matching, but I'm not sure what it would be.  A lot of the terms in the Render settings are unfamiliar to me, so I don't know which ones would affect this issue.  If it's relevent, the AE project I'm using was originally made in AE 6.0 and recently opened in CS4 and re-edited.  Both AVIs that were made in 6.0 and the new one I just made in CS4 do the same thing in PPro (whose version is CS3, if that makes any difference).

AE does not support multi-frame temporal compression as required by many compressed formats, so the quaality will often be terrible, and secondly you will not get access to the DV CoDec such as used by Premiere. You may choose Microsoft DV and others, but in essence you'll be back to square one as those will laso require to be rendered/ transcoded in Premiere's timeline.

The impression I got from Mylenium's post was that even if I chose Microsoft DV as the codec, it will still require rendering, and also be lousy quality.  I know that there are many "lossless-only" purists out there, but I am satisfied with the normal type of DV compression even for two or three generations, even though it is technically lossy - my final format is MPEG2-DVD, which is much more compressed.  But if it didn't do any multi-frame comparison for its compression...  Anyway, Mylenium scared me away from even trying to change the output settings, as it sounded like it would not solve my problem at all.  But after reading Sébastien's post I decided to try it, and at least at first glance it appears to work fine - the footage goes on the PPro timeline without the red "I need to be rendered" bar, and at least on my screen the quality looks okay to me - I see no visible artifacts.  I don't know how to tell if it is doing any frame-to-frame comparison, or how much harm I might be doing to the quality of my final DVD data by doing it this way, but it sure works faster!
...don't be confused with lossy & lossless codecs.
Don't worry, I understand that - a simple example is JPG vs. TIFF, as both compress but TIFF is lossless.  But I don't know the subtle differences between different video codecs, and until yesterday I didn't know about the output settings in the render queue pane of AE.  (Since everything else I have worked with on this Windows machine has always used Microsoft DV as the codec for AVI's, I was lulled into the assumption that that would be the default in AE as well.)  If Mylenium is right that AE's output functionality for that codec is not as clever as that in PPro, perhaps this method will come back to bite me, but meanwhile, it looks like it will improve my workflow tremendously.  Perhaps if I re-render my current clips it might even reduce some of my memory problems in PPro - right now, about once an hour or so I get a complaint from PPro about limited memory (or runtime error messages) and have to reboot.  [In case you are tempted to ask, I have 2GB of RAM and have my paging file set to a fixed 8GB, but I'm still running out.  I don't have that much AE footage yet, but I will be adding more.]
If my current settings (Render Settings: "DV Settings", Output Settings: "Microsoft DV") are not really the same as the normal Microsoft DV that I use for everything else(even though they are accepted as native footage by PPro), please speak up again.  I won't delete the lossless versions of the clips (which are about 8 times the size of the DV ones) until I'm sure I won't regret changing my workflow.

  • Best way to import large 1hr long files from HD camera

I have 4 files all about an hour long to import from HDV camera into fcpx.
When I import them the Transcoding /Analysis and Rendering takes forever.
I left the computer (set to never sleep) and after 24hrs it hadn't moved to even 1%.
Any tips on how to make this process any quicker or at least get started???
What happens if I stop the process to be able to switch the computer off, will this effect anything?
(The only boxes I have ticked are the audio analysis boxes - all three. I haven't got the transcoding boxes ticked...)

First, don't check any boxes on the Import window.
Second, trash FCPX's pref files with "Preference Manager", relaunch, see if that helps.
And yes, what Mac, what GPU, OS version, FCP X version, how much RAM, specs on all of your hard drives, and what specific camera you're using, would help a great deal.

If I delete photos from my camera roll will they be deleted from my cloud as well?

No, photos in photo stream are not effected by deleting photos from your camera roll.  However, while photo stream photos are not deleted from your phone after they are in your photo stream album, photos older than 30 days are deleted from photo stream.  These means if you ever turn photo stream off, or connect a new device to photo stream, only photos added in the last 30 days will be available to download.  To keep them permanently, import your camera roll photos to your computer before deleting them (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083).

  • RAW, JPEG,camera rendering and profiles

I am an amateur photographer and extensively use many Adobe products including Lightroom 2.4 and Photoshop CS4.  Several years ago I made a decision to shoot all my pictures in Raw and use Lightroom to convert to JPEG’s.  I started converting them all to DNG’s at one point but finally didn’t see much benefit to that.  I appreciate the flexibility and adjustability available with a RAW file format.   Up until now I thought that was a good decision.  Recently after reading many articles I decided to change to Adobe RGB instead of my Canon 30D’s default format of sRGB.  I also changed to recording all images in both Raw and JPEG format at least temporarily to see how it might affect my workflow.  I imported both files into Lightroom and was very surprised to see the difference between the RAW image and JPEG image.  The raw image was in my opinion dull and unappealing.  The JPEG image was vibrant, brighter and definitely more appealing to my eye.  Curious, I got online and started reading all the articles, tech notes and Blogs about the difference between RAW and JPEG and to quote one article “Lightroom will not match your cameras rendering when working with raw files as it’s just raw data, but you can use the new profiles to emulate the manufacturer’s look for some cameras, or you can build your own profile to match.”  I tried several experiments on my Canon going back to sRGB to see it didn’t make any difference.  I tried all the standard Lightroom camera profiles and none of them matched the JPEG image.  After working for about 15 minutes I was finally able to get the raw image to closely match the JPEG image but it has me thinking.  Do I really want to spend the time on ALL my raw images to match the JPEG image?  I understand I can create custom profiles but from want I read every image will be different based on the white balance, color tones etc.  What really puzzled me is that when I compare my raw and JPEG images using other image viewers the images are identical???  This includes a Canon application (I can understand that) but also a third party application such as FastStone Image Viewer which will read Canon Raw files.  The images are identical.  This should not be this difficult!   How can FastStone interpret Canon raw files better that Adobe?  Is it really true that the camera rendering is not imbedded in Canon’s own raw file format?  I really don’t what to have to record all images in raw and JPEG and have to deal and store duplicate files for the rare time the raw format gives me better adjustability that JPEG.  I appreciate any and all thoughts on this subject.

Again thanks for your help on this.  I want to understand it.
I took two new pictures.  The camera was set to record both RAW and JPEG maximum quality.  House with reddish bricks, flowers in front, green grass and trees and blue skies with clouds.  Pretty standard stuff.  On the first set the camera was set on standard picture style.  The second was set on faithful.  I reset many of the Lightroom defaults.  The ones that I though mattered.
There is still differences easily distinguishable between the raw files and JPEG files.  Take a look at the 4 histograms:
    Raw file standard style.
    JPEG Standard style:
    Raw Faithful style:

    Any thoughts?

I purchased  Adobe Elements Photoshop 12 & Premiere 12 together from a camera shop in town.  When I tried to use the Premiere, it splashed "created with the trial version" over all of the photos. How can this unsightly watermark be removed. It has severely hampered my timeline to start and finish this project. Why would a purchase software product purport to be a "trial" version?

This indicator will appear when you have not registered your product or typed in the serial number for the product.
Once you've added the serial number, any future products will not display this indicator.
To remove this this indicator from videos created before you added the serial number, you'll need to delete the rendered files.

  • Carrying motion effects from 30fps to 24fps project for online

I'm working on this program where they transfered their dailies footage to HDCam, then they downconvert their dailies to DVCam letterbox with burns. There are some effects (split screen, crop) on the motion window and now it's time for the online and the effects look all out of place. The cuts are at the right spots, but the placement in the screen is out of whack. They are all on top of one another and squezzed in.
Let me explain the shot: 3 people all talking but each one of them is in a diferent split screen, then all 3 of them show up. 1 person occupies the top left, the other one the top right and the last one at the bottom of the screen.
The DVCam downconvert of the masters are lettebox with burns, and it seems that the effects won't apply to the HD online since all the effects look squeezed together (like it was made for 4:3 instead of 16:9)
Now, my question, does anyone know how to transfer the effects from a 30 fps project to a 24 fps project? More specifically, how do I transfer the effects made on the "motion" windows to work on an 23.98 timeline.
Thank you in advance for your help.

The red & white checkerbox means that in the rendering process it cannot find the media.
Strange why this happens on only two instances though
Have you tried trashing your prefs and repairing permissions.
Could you render directly out of Motion and then drop the movie into FCP?

  • Multicam Edit with Audio from 2 Cam

I'm editing a multicam project with 5 cameras.  I want to use the audio from 2 cameras.  What is the best way to do this?
Right now I have the main audio all the way down and I dragged just the audio from the 2 cams I needed onto the timeline.  They aren't part of the angle viewer.  Is there another way.?  I had to manually sync it.  Hope that makes sense.

In a multicam you can choose to switch audio and video, only audio or only video, so you can just use the 5 angles corresponding to the 5 cameras, and work with that.
It is perfectly easy to do in Angle Viewer. Just click the appropriate button at the top of the Angle Viewer.
In the picture above the "video only" button (blue) is selected; in this situation, if you click to cut to a different angle you'll cut and switch only the video, and keep the same angle for audio. You can click the audio/video or the audio only whenever you need, and it will act accordingly. Very easy, very effective.

  • Safari 6 does not display motion jpegs from IP camera

I do have several IP cameras from Axis and other companies. Until I upgraded to Moutain Lion / Safari 6, they worked fine. But in Safari 6, the motion JPEG is no longer streaming. It streams a few frames, but then stalls. Has anybody seen this as well?

I will say that since I originally responded above that although Firefox works almost all the time, I have had a couple of occasions where Firefox as become unresponsive while streaming pictures from my Panasonic cameras...  The behavior is much worse on Safari where I can, in effect, only get one or a view images before it freezes and no more streaming occurs until you leave that streaming page and come right back to it, where it sends a few more frames and then freezes again...  Firefox never does any of that.  However, I do believe the couple of times where it has become unresponsive while streaming the same video images is likely related to a similar problem that Safari has under Mountain Lion.  But until Apple makes some improvement I have basically needed to stop using Safari to view images from these cameras...  I haven't tried Chrome...  Maybe I will give that a shot next...
And don't forget to send feedback to Apple at

  • How to remove flicker effect from screens / projections?

    Hey,
I wondered if there's an option within Premiere Pro CC ( or AE) to remove flicker effects from screens and projections. I attached a jpg as an example of such a projection. Here is an anti flicker option in Premiere Pro, but it doesn't seem to have an effect on my problem.
    Cheers

You need to shoot scenes like that using a camera that allows Synchro-Scan, which can adjust the cameras scanning rate to that of the display in the shot.  Any mismatch between camera and siaplay is what causes the flicker, and Synchro-Scan is the only way to correct it without entirely removing the screen from teh shot and replacing it with another, usually via After Effects.

  • IChat Error: "Can't get video from the camera"

When I try to Screen Share with iChat on a local network, I receive the error "Can't get video from the camera" when I have an external camera plugged into the FW400 port on my Mac Mini. The Screen Sharing feature works great when the camera is not connected. Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Tell us about the Network you created please.
What make and model modem ?
Can it route (issue IPs) ?
    IS there a router ?
Make and model of that please ?
If there are two devices which is doing DHCP if any are ?
IS there any computer that is sharing it's Internet Connection with any other computer ?
I take it from the title and the post that you infer you can Video and Audio chat ?
The Cannot get Video from Camera normally gets and Error Log pop up.
This can be opened with the reveal triangle on the left. The Details shown will have a Error number. Do you know what this log says ? (normally Error 20 or 21)
Old logs are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors by date.
IF you post an Error Log stop at the line that Says "Binary Images for iChat" as we don't need the bits below that yet.
As the Screen share in iChat uses an Audio component then the Camera if it is also the Mic needs to be ON.
In your case this may mean that in the ichat Video Menu both Camera Enabled and Mic Enabled should both be ticked.
(I have never seen an iChat error code for not (specifically) being able to get the Mic input so the message might be the only one iChat can pop up)
It does seem very odd that it only effecting Screen Sharing.
I have a Firewire connected DV converter that has two Firewire ports itself so I can input the camera feed to two computers. When this is in place the System also sees it as a Network.
I have also heard of one person with a Firewire Stills camera and I think the Storage space was seen as an External Device and therefore appeared Networked which is why I asked the first set of questions.
iChat does not like being in Two networks (a modem that issues IP address and a router doing the same or Wireless to a neighbour and Ethernet to your Own Internet connection, the Mac being the hub in a Share Internet connection, Wireless and Ethernet to the same router and using Parallels when set to Share the Mac's IP are the most common)
The Screen Sharing option in iChat > Video Menu is ON ? (at both ends ?)
As iChat's Screen Sharing is related to the System Screen Sharing and therefore Apple Remote Desktop you may find that in any routing device you may have to open ports 5900 and 5988 if not using UPnP

You said Local Network. Do you mean this is using the Bonjour Buddy List ?

Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays.  That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind  to Original.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentions, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.

  • QT from isight requires rendering

I notice that when I make a QT video with the built in isight camera on the imac, and bring it into FCE, it all requires rendering. Is there a way to set FCE to avoid this?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Any material included in an FCE's timeline that not conforms to sequence settings will need rendering.
As FCE HD can does only DV and HDV and as iSight output someting like H.264 or mpeg (I do not own/use this hardware, so I dont know this info), every footage captured from iSight needs rendering.
One way to avoid this is to convert your original footage to a format natively supported by FCE (DV NTSC-PAL or Apple Intermediate codec for HDV) in quicktime player PRO.
Once converted and imported into FCE, this newly converted material will play without the need of rendering.
