Multicam Edit with Audio from 2 Cam

I'm editing a multicam project with 5 cameras.  I want to use the audio from 2 cameras.  What is the best way to do this?
Right now I have the main audio all the way down and I dragged just the audio from the 2 cams I needed onto the timeline.  They aren't part of the angle viewer.  Is there another way.?  I had to manually sync it.  Hope that makes sense.

In a multicam you can choose to switch audio and video, only audio or only video, so you can just use the 5 angles corresponding to the 5 cameras, and work with that.
It is perfectly easy to do in Angle Viewer. Just click the appropriate button at the top of the Angle Viewer.
In the picture above the "video only" button (blue) is selected; in this situation, if you click to cut to a different angle you'll cut and switch only the video, and keep the same angle for audio. You can click the audio/video or the audio only whenever you need, and it will act accordingly. Very easy, very effective.

  • CS3 Multicam Multiple Audio tracks, only audio from Cam 1 plays

In Premiere CS3 I have 4 Cam edit I have all tracks, video and audio on main timeline. I also have audio from a DAT recorder on a seperate audio track. Everything is sync'd. I created my multicam edit sequence and nested my edit sequence into it. How can I get the audio track from the DAT to work on the nested sequence? It seems that the only audio I hear is that from Camera 1. What I would like to have is the audio from camera 3 AND the DAT recording. It is a live music performance and I want the audio captured from the House mixer which is really clean but I would also like to have the audio from oner of the cameras for ambient house sound. You know, sing alongs, yelling and clapping. After all, it IS a IVE performance. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
See also my posting on the issue "Multicam is extrmely slow".
    In short:
Make a timeline with all sources and sync them all, make sure everything is ok.
Then make a copy of this timeline and disable all video except one (for reference). Name it "Sound"
Move all soundtracks of your first timeline down to free soundtrack one.
Drag the sound track of "Sound" to track 1 of the first timeline. Then go on with the normal method for multicam (new timeline "Target", drag Source on it and enable multicam)
Any adjustmentsa needed in the sound can now be done in one place; Time line "Sound"
For performance reasons it might me better to drag the sound track of "Sound" directly to "Target" and disable soundtrack 1 (from Source). Disadvantage then is that removing parts from this multicam timeline needs the same removal from the soundtrack (on 2).
Hmmm, now I am writing this, can I unlink in Target the video and soundtrack and link soundtrack 2 to videotrack 1? Have to try that.

  • Multicam editing with multi-track audio?

Does anyone know how to do multicam editing with multi-track audio?  Apparently, the multicam editor can only see Audio Track #1 in the Source Sequence.  I tried mixing my original audio tracks #1, #2, and #3 (submixes) to the master audio track in the Source Sequence and if I listen to the new Multicam Sequence (the nested Source Sequence) all 3 original audio tracks are there (combined), but when I go to do the multicam edit in the multicam monitor window, I"m back to just Audio Track #1 of the Source Sequence and audio tracks #2 and #3 are missing ???  Thanks for your help!

I have run the gambit of different techniques. The one that is most efficient is listed in Colin Brougham's response number 9
There's a far easier way to do this: after you sync your angles, hold down Alt/Opt and select or lasso just the video portions of the clips, and nest those. The audio stays put, but the video moves into the nest, and you can then enable Multicam on the nested sequence.
One of the best things about this is that it circumvents Premiere Pro's totally BS "Render Required Files" nonsense.
I must admit the ALT lasso tip was one of the best features I have seen. Like a revelation when I discovered it some months ago while watching a tutorial about something not related. As far as the "Rendering required files" That was kicking my but for a while doing multicam editing. If you do edit both audio and video in multicam you might find the "Rendering required files" issue. Basically the problem stems from having a lot of cuts to process at the same time both audio and video. 1080P is a huge amount of data when you multiply it by four cameras plus multiple audio cuts and effects ,(audio gain, Deessing etc.) So Pre-rendering the audio by clicking in the main sync timeline and then at the top Click Sequence/Render Audio. This takes care of the issue when you are cutting multiple tracks at once. It is a good practice to work from a main sync sequence and then copy that to a new sequence  preserving the main sequence as unchanged. I found the solution is to "render audio" only in the master sync sequence this will then pass through to all subsequent copies that are made "downstream" allowing you to easily clean up anything. If you make a mistake you can always start from the main sync sequence and not lose too much time. Takes a little bit of time to render but once that is done you can cut all tracks video and audio like butter. I have been doing a lot of 1080p multicam editing over this past year and had quite learning curve. Most of the work I do is multicam editing by choice it is much faster for me to edit this way because I am used to working in live events where we need to look at all shots at the same time make a "best choice" and keep rolling. Have fun with it!

  • Multicam edit with camera that starts and stops

I am editing a multicam shoot and want to create a multicam clip with my two cameras. Camera A never stopped running, but Camera B stop several times. The time code was synced on Free-Run so there is no issues with syncing, but I want all camera B's footage to be on the same video track. Right now when i select all the clips FCP creates a multicam clip with several video tracks (for every new clip). Is there a way i could have it place every clip from camera B into one track so i can edit using camera 1, camera 2, as opposed to going up to camera 50?

    It's an option,
No, it's an elegant and practical solution to the production problem caused by your shooter. Free running timecode will drift (rather hopelessly) so you're not really gaining anything tanglible. You still have to sync the clips visually, you won't be able to depend on t/c except as a guide. Which is convenient but not solid.
im working with DVCproHD and a very big project so i don't want to take up more HD space.
You want to get the project done? Go buy another drive for $200.
    Also, everything is logged beautifully
Logging incorrectly-acquired footage doesn't amount to much, but, if you need to recapture, you're in luck. If you consolidate the footage into a single clip as suggested, recapturing is simply a question of replacing footage into the master clip and exporting it again.
I've also heard about using camera angles. does anyone know if this would be an option for this?
You only have two cameras and two angles. What have you heard about angles that would suggest them as a solution? Maybe if we understood how you have misunderstood angles, we could help you clear that up.

  • Edit multichannel audio from HD camcorder

I have a Panasonic HDC-HS9 which records audio in 5.1 with the built in mic. The camcorder menu has audio level settings for each of the 5 channels. I recorded a video clip and would like to edit the audio from this video clip in SP which came with Final Cut Studio 2. Don't know what settings to use so that I can capture or transfer the 5.1 audio into SP in order to edit the 5 audio channels. I would like to lower the levels on all of the channels except the center channel. The video clip on the camcorder hard drive is in MTS format which is normally converted to QT ProRes in FCP 6.0.6, but the audio is mixed down to stereo which I can't work with. I need to be able to access each audio channel individually. Thanks for any suggestions.

Apparently this camera records a Dolby Digital signal (AC3), wich is nested in the video. Next to converting the videopart, you would have to do a second transcoding, where the audio is converted to 6 discrete channels, pref. in AIFF format. You could try Compressor for this. (On a PC, software like HeadAC3e or BeSweet is often used). Afterwards, import the six audiotracks in your FCP project, and make a Send to Multi Track.. (to STP).

  • Problem playing with Multicam editing using samples from Tom's FCP 5 book?

I have some media from the DVD accompanying the book Final Cut Pro 5 Editing Workshop.
There are 4 camera angles of a music trio but unfortunately there is only audio on Camera 1.
This means that though I can switch video angles, the audio for about 75% of the final clip is missing.
Is there any way to ensure that the audio is added to all the clips and angles?

There is an excellent podcast tutorial series called "Creative COW Final Cut Help Tutorials Podcast (SD)"
    in the iTunes Store.
The latest three are very in depth concerning the new Multicam in 10.0.3 and address your audio concern and much, much more.
    Can't recommend them enough.

  • How to edit with a second camera?

We are using one camera to record our church services.  It was suggested we could get a second camera and then edit the video from the two cameras into one sequence.  Since I just started to use PP CS5 to do the editing from the one camera, I am not sure how that would work.  I have seen the final product that others have done, but would like a quick overview of what needs to be done in PP.
By the way, we have a AVCHD camera that saves the video to an SDHC card, so will assume we will get a similar camera for the second one.  Also, we take the audio from our sound board and it goes into the camera, so is part of the recording.  Should I also assume that the audio should only be recorded onto only one camera?  Sorry, lots of questions - any help to get me started?

Premiere PRO can easily handle the editing of two cameras or many more and really your question as to whether to get a second camera depends on creatively what you want to do.  If you are shooting someone speaking or playing a piano, having two cameras gives the ability to have one possibly shooting the person from the front, and then the second may be being farther way from the side going simultaneously.  That way when you are editing you can switch between the shots from each camera angle to give some style.
To edit it is simple.  Import your footage from each camera and then drop the footage from one camera into one timeline and then drag and drop the footage of the second camera into the other  timeline.  Whatever is in the top layer or timeline is going to be what you see, so if you want something in the lower timeline to show you will have to make sure nothing is above it.  This is a very simple approach to get you going.
I'm assuming that you do not have much equipment from your question and you are just starting out. So the next step you will need to do is to synch up the sound on your clips from one camera with the other as best you can.  But if you are going to be doing a lot of this, you want to do some homework and study up as you will want to have your cameras synched up with timecode and you will want to be shooting with this in mind and investing a few bucks is well worth the cost.
    Good luck.

  • Multicam Editing and Audio

    Hello Forum,
does anyone know if there a way to select a different audio track separately from the video track when editing in the multicam mode?
For example, if there a way for an editor to have a video from Camera 1 and Sound from Camera 2?
Would appreciate a direct technique or a workaround suggestion.
    Best,
    Dimitri Vorontzov

Depending on how often you want to do this, it might get tedious, but:
Hold down the Alt key and click on the audio portion you want to change; this will select just the audio clip. Right-click on it, go to Multi-Camera, and then select the camera you want to use for audio. The video will stay whatever you had originally edited into place, but the audio will be pulled from the other camera.
If you want to use audio from a specific camera for the whole edit, there is an option in the multicam monitor flyout menu called "Audio Follows Video." If you uncheck that, you can pick what audio track you want to use at the bottom of the MC monitor. Premiere will add edits, but the audio will always be from the camera you specified. I'm not sure which option you're really after, but hopefully that helps.

  • How can I record an Adobe meeting with audio from BT MeetMe?

I am trying to record an Adobe Connect meeting however would like to record the audio from a BT MeetMe conference. Is there a way to tie the two together?

You may be able to use the Universal Voice tool. When logged into Connect Central, go to My Profile > My Audio Providers > New Provider. Put in the relevant information for calling into your BT confrence bridge.
Full instructions on filling in the fields can be found here (you don't need to do this in the Admin section though): http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/11/uv_admin_setup/
Then when that process is done, go to My Audio Prioviders, in My Profile and select New Profile. Select the profile you just created and click Save. Then, at the bottom of the Edit page for your meeting room, you should have the option to integrate  your BT phone bridge into the connect room.
You can connect the phone bridge via the Audio menu in the meeting room, and if everyone is going to be on the phone, I would disable the audio broadcast for the bridge, so attendees don't hear the audio through their phone and computer. The audio will still be recorded with the presentation.

  • CS5.5--Issues with audio from imported avi's & issues exporting

    To Start, my laptop:
    CPU: Intel® Core ™ i7-2330QM CPU @ 2.00 GHz
    CPU Clock Frequency: 2.00 GHz
    System Memory: 8 GBytes
    Cache Memory: 1 MBytes/6 Mbytes
    Manufacturer: Sony Corporation
    Model name: VPCF226FM
    BIOS VERSION: R1190V#
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    ME Version: 7.0.10.1203
    System Type: 64-bit Operating System
I downloaded the 30-day free trial of Premiere Pro CS5.5 with all updates.  To play with the program, for my own personal amusement, I wanted to edit together pieces from a bunch of avi videos that I know to play properly outside the program, tested on more than one computer.
At first, importing the files seemed to be no problem, making subclips as I went along.
However, as I continued to import files, there began to be a sound issue--sometimes the sound not being present till I was 1/3 of the way through the clip, sometimes the sound seemingly playing catch up with audio that should be earlier in the video appearing later, sometimes the sound wouldn't come up at all, and still other times I'd be, for example, on video 5 when pieces of audio from video 2 would start playing over the current video.
I initially thought it may just be a memory issue, working with many large video files.
But later, when I went to edit the subclips I made, I found that many of them no longer had sound, even if they did when I initially subclipped them.
Weirdly, in the timeline, there is no consistency, as clips will appear in the video track but only some show audio tracks too.  But those with audio tracks don't always play audio and those that show NO audio tracks at all actually do play audio sometimes.  Also, those that show audio tracks and don't play them sometimes will show waveforms, sometimes don't.  A clip with no waveform may not play 95% of the time, but then occasionally will suddenly have the waveform and play a couple times before reverting back to no audio.
A suitable solution for this personal amusement project would just be to drop a new soundtrack over the thing but, before I even got that far, I tried exporting as avi's and mpeg4's but then get error messages such as:
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [..\..\Src\Win\WinFile.cpp-785]
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
In case it was a memory issue, I tried starting a new project, only importing 2 videos, but had the same audio and exporting issues.
I'm getting really frustrated as I spent a lot of time importing/subclipping and then even more time prepping before that.
For those who are bound to ask, while new to Premiere, I'm not a novice with editing.  I've used Final Cut Pro at work for many years (without such issues).

  • Dropped frames on MultiCam editing with Canon XF305 Footage

    Hello,
I recently purchased three Canon XF305 series cameras and have been conducting a series of tests to determine the best recording format and editing workflow. First, does anyone have experience with these new Canon cameras?
Using the log and transfer utility, I've been bringing the files into FCP natively using the canon codec (which is actually mislabeled as a Sony codec). Once in, the footage looks good to edit, without requiring rendering.
However, when I setup a multiclip sequence with the three cameras, the render bar turns green and I'm getting all kinds of dropped frames on playback. Is this a computer processor issue, drive speed, or codec? The multiclip is the only time I have trouble -- once I collapse the multiclip, I can edit fine without any drop frames.
I've done tests using 5400x and 7200x drives using both firewire 800 and eSata, no changes. I believe that rules out drive speed.
Is this a processor issue? What can I do to resolve this, as our workflow involves 100+ hours of footage from 3 cameras.
    Thanks in advance

but my experience with the 305's in ProRes is that it makes it a bigger file(more than double)
Of course it will. XDCAM is a highly compressed format. ProRes is a larger file type, higher data rate. It will be larger. Did you not notice that the ProRes footage from the 5D were also about 5 times larger?
    and still needs to render.
If you worked in a ProRes timeline, then you shouldn't need to render. If you still do, than something is wrong. Create the file...make a new sequence, cut this into that sequence...FCP will make the settings match. If it does this, and you STILL need to render....you did something wrong.
when I actually converted to ProRes, it seemed like it was more taxing on the computer, took up twice the hard drive, and more than three times the time to transcode compared to native.
It is less taxing to actually edit with. GOP formats require the computer to constantly process the GOP footage to show you frames...since there are no real frames in any GOP format. Well, there are 3 frames every second, then a bunch of pictures, and the computer has to guess what is next by looking at the frames, and then the pictures, and make up the in-between. PRORES is a full frame format...no guessing, no computing. And larger files are not more taxing on the computer...they might require faster hard drives...and larger ones, but they are less taxing. Yes, longer to convert than native, but when that is done, things are easier.
But, do what you want. I just gave a suggestion.

  • Multicam editing with FCE

Beeing relatively new to FCE and coming from iMovie, I have had high expectations for better ways of doing multicam editing whenever I have shots from several camera positions that I want to move between at the same course of time in the timeline.
For instance, say I got three cameras and I want to see what each of them displays "simultaneously" while doing playback. Is this possible in FCE? Or at the very least, is it possible to quickly hide/unhide a video layer during timeline playback, so that I can see what is going on "beneath"? That way I could at least see "simultaneously" two camera positions...

You are probably right, but I cannot find those menuitems or shortcuts anywhere. The closest thing I have got is the Toggle Clip Enable (Control-B) key combination that hides or unhides a given clip, but this also stops playback. Can you tell me what shortcuts and/or menuitems I should be looking for?

  • Major Problem with audio from Final Cut to DVd Studio Pro

I am posting this problem again because no further responses have been received regarding my first post. I purchased an MR-HD100 Firestore device from Focus Enhancements. When I use clips from it alone or with other clips created by digitizing from min DV tape on a sequence or timeline the audio works fine in Final Cut. When I import any type of file and believe me I have been trying all kinds of suggestions and wasting almost a dozen DVDs. Whether it be a Final Cut QT file, going straight to compressor and producing an MPEG-2 file and a dolby audio file .ac3 importing them into DVD SP and making the adjustments that MR. Harbsmeier suggested DIAL NORM at -31dbfs and COMPRESSION MODE to NONE, as well as the suggestion to make an aif file with the audio and importing it into DVD SP as well as the video. I get the same result with every try, the clips made with the firestore are so low you cannot hear them. NOTHING WORKS!!!!. And yes I have tried making a DVD with just digitized footage and yes it turned out fine. I called Apple support today and that gentlemen basically told me I am out of warranty so phone help was not available. However, he made a suggestion of changing sequence presets in Final Cut which has now developed into another problem. I have messed up my settings so bad I don't know where I am I can't LOG & CAPTURE in the manner I used to ???? Could someone please advise as to why this problem exists and the correction to resolve it. I do not understand why the audio works fine playing the sequence on the timeline in Final Cut. It plays fine after making a Final Cut QT file. AND it plays fine in simulation mode in DVD Studio Pro. However after you burn a DVD the audio from the firestore clips are not to be heard unless you crank up the speakers or TV to it's maximum level and you can barely make it out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME Projects are stacking up and was really hoping to go tapeless

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?

  • Problem with audio from speaker at bottom

I have looked around the net and found several other people have had this issue, but want to know more about possible fixes.
My iPhone 4 has an issue where the audio from the speaker on the bottom of the phone disappears. Randomly. It could be during a youtube video, or a game, or even just using the phone itself. If I leave the phone for a few minutes and come back to it, when I play a game or video, the audio returns.
Initially the audio did not come back. And I restored the phone thinking that may help. But it didn't.
So, has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone got an idea on how to fix this. Volume controls and mute switch all checked. I can't explain how it's happening or how to fix it.
    Any thoughts?

well an update, im realizing that only one clip out of the 3 clips is where the audio doesnt work.  of course its the main clip with everything i need on it.  when i import the other 2 clips into pp the audio meter icon show on them and audio plays fine.  on the main clip its light purple and no audio meter indicating no audio.  but like i said i can play it fine and hear the audio perfect outside of pp.  all 3 were clips were shot at same time at same settings. TIA
