K7n2 shuts off during graphic intensive programs

My problem is that sometimes, mainly when I'm running a graphically intensive prgram (mainly games) my computer shuts completley off. This has only hapened when I'm playing a game, like final fantasy XI or unreal 2004.
I thought it was the ge force, so i turned it from 8x to 4x. i have also had the case opened and a room fan pointed directly in blasting air to keep the temperature down, ause i thought it might be shutting off due to temperature. But today it shut off even with the room fan.

Wow I'm surprised you'd get as far as you did...glad you got it sorted.
FYI That's mentioned in the troubleshooting guide at the top of the forum.

  • Macbook Pro Retina keeps shutting down during graphics intensive work

Today my macbook began shutting down while working with Aperture, Photoshop and while playing Borderlands 2.  This hasn't happened at all until today.
Looking through some suggestions here I have:
Run 2 hardware tests with no negative results.  Changed the screen resolution.  Turned off Automatic Graphics switching.
However it keeps crashing - actually crashed 3 times while attempting to start it up last time.  I've reset teh resolution and graphics switching - hoping someone out there may have an idea???  And I'm not using Google Chrome.

Thanks for any help you're able to give me.

I'll give it a go Ogelthorpe.  Ran the more intense hour long hardware test last night and then left it shut down overnight.  No results again for the test, but this morning I've run it through a few minutes of borderlands 2 with no shut down.  Strange.  Am fully expecting it to start playing up again though.

  • Finder sometimes freezes after graphics-intensive programs

I've just updated to 10.4.8 from 10.4.7 and found a new behaviour:
Sometimes, after running graphics-intensive programs (which I was running under 10.4.7 before), I'm seeing that Finder stops responding to the mouse clicks or keyboard. In fact, the mouse cursor moves, but can't click or drag anything.
For example: I've seen this happen after running LiveQuartz and CoreImage Funhouse in succession. This has happened with the same user or after running gfx programs as one user and switching to a different users.
The only solution is forcing a shutdown by holding the power key.
    I have tried:
    1/ Cleaning caches
    2/ Rebuilding kext caches
3/ All normal maintenance tasks (periodic command)
4/ Redoing all of the dynamic linking, etc.
    5/ Running as different users.
    6/ Resetting the PRAM.
    No luck.
I have seen an issue like this with ATI graphics when the GL Shader portion of the ATI drivers, but have never seen it on a Mac. It feels like a gfx driver stability issue. No messages in console or system logs that would give any clues.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Matthew

Forgive me for not knowing already, but does that list include repairing disk permossions? My computer, after installation, did this and many worse things before repairing permission.s Also when repairing permissions it seems to not repair all of them unless you boot off of your install disk.
^^You probably already know that. Doesn't hurt to find out though

My 4s shuts off during use of map directions

    Shut down the app...
From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle
Press the red to delete the Maps app from this list.
Press the home button twice when done.
    Restart Maps
Also, try a reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Laptop shut off during hard drive reset

My laptop shut off during a hard drive reset and now it says to do a system reset but I don't know what to do

Sure sounds like a hardware problem to me. To verify that you would need to attempt to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
If you failed to create it, you can obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 57 of the User's Guide.

  • Nano with Nike + shuts off during run

In addition to the "activity stopped" issue which is driving me crazy, now my nano (2nd gen) just shuts off during the middle of a run. Not a battery issue. When I press a button, it comes back on.
All of a sudden this is happening and is driving me nuts. Is my receiver defective? It's not a sweat issue, as I wear a belt clip.
As for loosening, I always wondered by the Nike receiver doesn't have two little clips that secure the receiver to the nano, like the syncing cables.

    Hello
I am having the same problem too! About halfway through my 4 mile run, a voice over comes on and tells me that my activity has stopped. This continues for the rest of the run about every 5 - 7 minutes. Because of this, my 4 mile run only logs as a VERY SLOW 2 mile run.
What can I do to fix this problem? The plugin is not loose and my IPOD is not giving me a reading that the battery in my shoe sensor is dying. I can't call for technical support because it is past the 90 day purchase, but I haven't even had the Nike+Ipod for an entire year yet! PLEASE HELP!
Unlike the original posting, my IPOD does not shut off - so I know it is not an IPOD issue but instead a Nike+IPOD issue....

  • Satellite P10 - Notebook suddenly shuts off during application

My Satellite P10 has a problem since about 1 month. During several applications (for example games) it shuts off suddenly, without any message or comparable warning.
Is it possible, that it's getting to hot?
It worked without any problem for over a half year!
Could it be, that there's only some dirt in the ventilation? And can I clean it myself without any problems?
If I had a PC I would just open and clean it. But this is my first notebook and I don't have too much experience with the intereor of it.

    HI there,
I normally clean any dust from my A30 on a weekly basis, either by blowing through the outlet vents on the back of the notepad, or by using a domestic vacuium cleaner hose on the fan intake grills oin the bottom of the unit. This avoids having to remove the CPU heat sink which may invalidate your warranty.
I also make sure that the notepad is never placed directly onto carpets or cushions or other soft surfaces since this will either block the air intakes or provide a ready source of dust and debris which will get sucked into the unit.
There is a setting in the Device Manager to enable the cooling to be set for 'maximum performance' or 'Minimum noise'. The effect of the former is to allow the CPU to run at maximum speed (which may involve the fans running at their maximum, whereas the latter will cause the CPU to slow down when it is getting too hot thereby allowing the fans to run much more slowly. I believe the post from 'Heaven' related to a fauly chip on the mother-board which was making the fans run permanently.

  • E71x shuts off during calls

E71x in perfect shape shuts fully off during calls only, never any other time. In the middle of a call, not when hitting a button or anything. I had originally installed "xplore" and deleted some native ATT games, installed skfire and google maps. Since then I did the hard reset which seemed to re-install everything, "monopoly" and the other origional native ATT games etc. With the hard reset done, the "xplore", skyfire and google maps where gone and I haven't reinstalled them. Anyone with similar problem or ideas where to look? I got it from Amazon.com  (brand new, not refurb or anything).

On the AT&T help forum the best I could get is that it is a software glitch that showed up maybe on an install of something or they say more likely when I used "xplore" to remove some of the ATT apps (it thinks you are actually trying to shut the phone down...so it does) . Remember mine is the E71x which is ATT branded with all kinds of junk software for ATT. But I did do a *#7370# reset and it brought all the original software back and Google maps was gone, but that didn't help at all. Anyway they thought it should be under a warranty since mine is only 30 days old so I'm gonna try at the ATT store today. Good luck with yours and at least I know someone else is having the same problem. In all the reading I've done it does not seem common so I hope a new phone won't do it too. It is funny how I can text and wi-fi play music and it never hiccups, but as soon as the call is connected it's now powering down every time in about 5 seconds. Google maps......hmmmm.

  • MacBook shuts off during start up...

When I turn on my computer it's starts to boot up normal but all I get is (and in this order) the Apple logo, a loading bar, and the spinning wheel. The bar only loads to about 5% then after about a minute my MacBook shuts off. I have two questions:
    What could be wrong?
What is the shortcut the guys at the genius bar us to check the hardware status?

You can eject a stuck disc several ways, all during startup:
Hold down the eject key, or the space bar, or the mouse button until it pops out (sometimes it can feel like it isn't working, but be patient and try all three).
If none of those work, there are terminal commands we can try...

  • Iphone shuts off during sync! Whyt?

I have an issue with Itunes and syncing. I have the latest version of Itunes, however this problem existed even the previous version of Itunes. Anyway, the issue is whenever I try to sync, during the sync the iphone autumatically shuts off and restarts on its own. I am not running 2.0 on the iphone yet. I tried to install which automatically backs up but even then I get an error because the phone shuts off. Is anyone else having these problems? I have reinstalled Itunes and have pulled other USB devices off. I even switched the ports for the USB for the phone. Does anyone have any ideas? I been trying to figure this one out for a while. I know the first issue is the PC part. Just saving up to buy a new Mac. This is my work computer....URGGGHHH!

I have personally witnessed this with a coworker. During the restore process after the upgrade her screen would go completely blank and then after a while she would see an error message on her XP machine saying that the iphone cannot be restored error 1603 (or 1604).
When I plugged her phone into my MacBook and did a restore everything was different. Rather than get a blank screen we saw the apple logo and the circle down at the bottom indicating that it was doing something. We were able to completely restore her phone from my MacBook when she had not been able to restore her phone for 2 days on her XP. There seems to be some incompatibility between something running in Windows, for example in our office PC's we run Norton antivirus, that causes a problem with the device. It must somehow sense that whatever it is trying to do is a threat and is blocking its ability to communicate with iTunes.

  • Computer shut off during LabVIEW aquisition

I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this error before, but I am currently trying to aquire data through two NI DAQ boards ( 4 analog channels in one and 2 in the second) via a simple LabVIEW program where the data is aquired every 60 minutes for a total of 10 seconds each time. This is written into a for loop but each time I try to run this program the computer will unexpectidely shut off after 8 or 9 hours. I am trying to run this program for a total of 48 hours. In addition I am currently writing out the data into a file that appends each time.
I have double checked settings on the computer itself but I have not had any success keeping the computer on while running the program. There are no errors when I restore the computer from a sleep mode, so I don't know if the program itself is causing the computer to shut down.
    I have attached the .vi.
If there is anyone that has any suggestions or has encountered this problem before and might be able to help that would be very useful.

There are no errors when I restore the computer from a sleep mode,
Tells us the problem is not with your vi (Not that there are not problems with your vi- there are!  Enable the conditional terminal of the for loop, lose the Quit primitive and, clean up your tasks!)
But, if you are going to sleep, you have the wrong OS power management settings
