Kernel rollback problem

Hi all,
Because of the oss-commercial problem with 2.6.22, I decided to rollback the kernel to 2.6.21.6:
pacman -U /var/cache/.....
after a reboot, X failed to start because nvidia driver is for 2.6.22. So I did the same rollback thing for the nvidia module. Then I get a "API mismatch" complain from the nvidia driver. What should I do now?
Thanks,

I remember that I installed the generic nvidia driver for the first time after I had experienced something similar to what you're describing.  Ultimately I found installing nvidia drivers "the hard way" to be much easier (and cleaner) than keeping track of multiple packages for multiple kernels - especially since I do have multiple kernels installed, some of them custom compiled...  The installation script for the generic nvidia drivers is well written and easy to use, it installs/reinstalls drivers without any fuss/problems.
As for why the arch package drivers failed?  I'm not sure...   but I'm sure someone else will be more helpful   Good luck.

  • Kernel Label problem for SOL MAN 4.0

    Hi
When was installing a Unicode SolMan 4.0 on Win 2003 SQL server 2005.

When I give the LABEL.ASC for kernel, it does not accept it and give me following error -

I tried all these option from the below link, but it did not work
    Kernel Label problem...
Does any one have solution for that?
    I appreciate your help
    regards

    Hi udo lang,
I have downloaded the Kernel file 51031778_3 NW 2004s SR1 Kernel 7.00 Windows Server on IA32 32bit today. I will try to fix the problem by using this kernel.
I also got reply from Sap that solution for this issue is:
This is most unusual. Due to the currently running RampUp the
    DVD's could have been updated.
I suggest that you try the following,
Download both the Unicode and NonUnicode Kernel files from the
    SAP Service Market Place.
The Kernel DVD 51031778 contains the Kernel for Unicode and for Non-
Unicode, as you wrote, in directory "", label:
    "SAP:AKK:700:KERNEL::WINDOWS_X86_64:"
Please check if you start Unicode Installation. Due to an incorrect
    procedure sapinst requireds both Kernel-CD.
With the next release will be it correct. If you start a Unicode
installation it will be a unicode.
    51031792_5 NW 2004s SR1 UC-Kernel 7.00 AIX 64bit
    51031792_1 NW 2004s SR1 Kernel 7.00 AIX 64bit
Etract them to one directory, like:
    <downloadDIR>/
    kernel/
    KN_WINDOWS_I386/
    KU_WINDOWS_I386/
    CDLABEL.ASC
    LABEL.ASC
    LABELIDX.ASC
When you ware asked for the kernel DVD, please enter
    <downloadDIR>/kernel
SAPinst should take the right kernel version for the installation
    automatically.
You may additionally refer to the below note for reference.

If the problem is resolved i will let you know. Thanks for your assistance

  • Solving Kernel/Xorg problems

    Hi all,
I've been using linux for several years now, and I like it a lot, but it's still not clear in my mind what to do when I run into kernel or Xorg problems.
When I run into a problem with a userland application, it's usually quite simple to identify the culprit or at least the apparent culprit, find the relevant bugzilla, file a bug and try to help the people in charge to fix the problem.
In contrast, the world of low-level stuff is a lot more intimidating. For example, I have had several display and supsend/hibernate problems with my laptop for more than one year now, but I still have no idea what to do about them. What can/ should I do about kernel/Xorg problems?

I didn't want this thread to be about my specific problems, but here goes:
    - Suspend fails about half of the time, the screen blanks (with a cursor blinking) and the computer just hangs. It is completely dead (REISUB doesn't work)
    - Hibernate doesn't work, when I turn the computer on, it checks the filesystems and boots normally
    - About 10% of the time, the login manager (currently kdm, but I had the same problem with gdm) shows with a very low resolution. Restarting xorg usually fixes the problem.
I probably have a few more that I'm forgetting at the moment.

  • What is involved in fixing the kernel task problem and what are the consequences

Ah yes. The kernel task problem. My Macbook pro encounters it at least once every day. It peaks at around 600% CPU usage when I have MainStage or Logic open. A main stage patch that normally uses 40-45% of CPU is redlining at 100% cpu usage- resulting in awful clicks and pops. Did i mention this happened during a live show yesterday? Because it did. I can open the CPU monitor and look at whats going on. It's always the same deal. Kernel task runs it's course and then goes back to normal.
I've seen various posts on fixing the problem. I believe I understand how to fix it more or less (ish). I just want to make sure I can go about it in such a way that doesn't mess with anything else on my computer.
My computer: macbook pro 8.2 15' w/ crucial m500 ssd in main & optical bays. 8gb of ram. latest version of mavericks. Standard stuff.

Your unsupported hardware configuration is likely contributing to the problem, if not entirely causing it.

  • Reproducible ZfDAgent rollback problem w/ HP4

    I'm beginning to test ZfDAgent 7.0 SP1 IR4 HP4. I have an HP3 machine
(WinXPsp3). During the install of HP4, it rolls back. Unfortunately, it's
not truly rolled back. The agent is left completely broken. If I reinstall
HP3, reboot, then it's fine, but re-trying the upgrade to HP4 causes the
    same situation again.
I have an MSI log with full logging (voicewarmup) enabled, but I'm not sure
how to decode where exactly the problem is.
    Anyone?
    Thank you.

Spoke too soon, I have one machine that this doesn't work on. Product
is removed, and no longer reinstalls. It rolls back during the install.
Might be a similar issue to what you're having. Attempting to attach
an MSI log file via nntp, we'll see how that goes. (edit, not allowed).
Happy to e-mail it if someone wants to see it.
I can always start a new thread for this, but I suspect it's related.
    This is the HP5 agent.

  • OEL 6.2 new kernel new problems

    Hi dears,
I was very happy about new updates and of course I installed these new update hoping that some
problems related to incompatibility in my system will be solved, but after I reboot my machine
    I saw this

How can I fix this or although rollback to old kernel ?
    Please help.

    new kernel = 2.6.32.300
OS OEL 6 (PVM) in Oracle VM 3.0.2

How can I fix this or although rollback to old kernel ?The old kernel is still installed -- the upgrade just installs a new one as well. What's happened is that your root device line seems to have changed, though I'm unsure why. There appears to be a /dev/ missing from the root= parameter on the command-line.
Log into the Dom0 of your Oracle VM Server and start the guest manually and connect to the console using:
    # xm create -c /OVS/Repositories/<UUID>/VirtualMachines/<UUID>/vm.cfg You'll need to work out what the two <UUID> values are, though. The first one is the UUID of the repository that contains your Virtual Machine configuration file. The second is the UUID of the Virtual Machine itself. You can find the repository path by running df -h to see all the mounted repositories on your server. The VirtualMachine UUID is on the Info screen of the Virtual Machine under the "ID" field.
When you start the guest using the xm command, you'll be presented with the GRUB boot loader screen, which will allow you to chose the previous kernel. When the machine boots, check /boot/grub/grub.conf and ensure that the root= parameter is the same as the previous kernel lines. Thanks Avi for speed of light support (I'm surprised :) )
Everything as you say I was able to run my old kernel and ssh to machine but root= parameter is fine (I think).
Can you check please if I am wrong

  • Mac Pro Kernel Panic Problems

Hi, thanks for looking over my sudden Mac Pro problem. Recently, my Mac Pro Intel Xeon started to have continuous Kernel Panics, all during simultaneous programs running, but also with a common Mac torrent program running, Transmission. Keep in mind that I've ran Transmission before in the past and this problem just came up. I did some research and a lot of people were complaining about Transmission causing Macs to slow down, were causing kernel panics, etc.-
So, I opened up my Mac Pro, cleaned all the dust on and around the motherboard, reinserted the 8 GB of RAM I have (description below), ran a full defrag through iDefrag, zapped the PRAM and reset the PMU..but within a day, this morning, my Mac Pro had another Kernel Panic. Within this timeframe I refrained from using any torrent program and when the Kernel Panic occurred, I had Safari and iTunes open.
    - Mac Pro: OS X 10.6.8, 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    - 8 GB, 1066 MHz DDR3 from OWC ( Purchased in March 2010 )
    - When the kernel panics first started appearing, I ran an Extended Apple Hardware Test (about 1 month ago), and this was the result:
    4MEM/62/40000006
    0x79c29e98
    Pass #12
Below is the most recent Kernel Panic I got, this morning's. It would be great if someone who knows more about this would be able to help. Thanks!

Only by removing pairs. When you find the pair that caused the panic, then one of the modules is bad. Best you can do without proper testing equipment. An Apple service tech has the information to interpret the error codes generated by the AHT, so they may be able to identify the actual module.

  • Hi! I have a kernel panic problem on my macbook pro! Please help me!!!

Hi! At the Apple store they changed my harddisk twice, but they didn't solve my problem.. Every time I try to install applications or to update the software, the kernel panic message appears (you need to restart your computer..etc) and I don't know what to do! I have already sent the signal to apple and verified permissions and when I did the hardware test, it appeared that i have a 4MEM/1/40000000:0xa9facf98 error...
this is the problem when I restart my computer:

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

The Hardware Test detected a RAM problem.  Take out the chips and make certain that the connections are clean and reinstall them.  Make certain that they are well seated.
If the problem occurs again, test with one chip at a time.  Also swap bays if necessary.
Please indicate if you have installed new RAM and if so what brand and the specifications.
    Ciao.

  • OS X kernel logs problem when USB flash drive connected.

Previously, my Creative Nomad Muvo TX (MP3 player/1GB USB memory stick) worked fine with my Intel Mac mini (10.4.8) until the latest EFI 1.1 update.
Now the USB drive does not mount or appear in finder. It is visible in the System Profiler in the USB section, but the disk utility does not see it.
While the USB stick is plugged in, the system logs the following line repeatedly:
Nov 26 21:32:39 kernel[0]: USBF: 2517.425 AppleUSBEHCI[0x3969000]::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 253, timing out!
Booting in Windows XP (with bootcamp) and plugging in the USB memory stick works fine. So the USB stick and the Mac mini hardware is functioning.
Other USB 2 external harddrives are functioning properly in OS X.
I suspect that the latest Mac OS X or EFI 1.1 firmware update has spoilt my previously happy USB memory stick connection.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in adcvance.
    Stephanus

    Hi, Stephanus.
    1. If Creative does not support that device with a Mac, then that should tell you something. Even if it worked in the past, since they don't support it, there's no guarantee that changes to Mac OS X would render it unusable as you've noted. With that kind of attitude from Creative, I'd think about switching to an iPod...
Since you can use it when booted into Windows with Boot Camp, you might want to consider running Parallels Desktop for Mac. This leverages the virtualization technology of the Intel chips, permitting you to run Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously, rather than having to boot into Windows with Boot Camp. Parallels is cheaper than buying an iPod.
    2. The USB message you reported is essentially indicating that the OS detected a USB device but cannot talk to it. This is unlikely to be something you're going to work around, e.g. with Terminal.
    3. If you want to pursue this further, you can:3.1. Install the USB debug kit for your version of Mac OS X. Apple provides a variety of Mac OS X USB Software Debug Versions that "are used to provide information about USB device and interface detection, driver and interface matching, driver loading and information generated as a result of normal and abnormal conditions." You could install the package corresponding to the version of Mac OS X you are running and this may help identify if the issue is a USB problem and the exact USB anomaly causing such.
3.2. Take what you've been able to lear from the USB debugger and do one or more of the following:• Join the Apple USB Mailing List. Once your registration is approved, submit a question including the enhanced output from the USB logger and requesting additional advice. That list is monitored by developers of USB devices. Posts are sometimes answered by Apple engineers.
    • Join the Apple Developer Connection at the "free" level, then submit a bug report.
    • Submit a Mac OS X Feedback. If Creative has their own forums, ala Discussions, you might also want to search or post there for similar reports.Unfortunately, that's about all I have to offer at this point: I don't have the Creative device and hence can't test it.
I think that Creative is disinterested in helping you is a key issue you need to consider.
    Good luck!
    Dr. Smoke

When "add new record" form opens and i decide to close the form without commiting changes to database (clicking the rollback button on message dialog), form closes fine and no changes have been commited but i also receive error:

  • EJB Entity transaction rollback problem

              Hello,
I have created 2 beans one is a Stateless Session and the other a Bean Managed Entity Bean. The SS Bean has methods to retrieve an Oracle Connection from a DataSource defined connection pool, and to close a connection. The entity bean I have created is responsible for insterting a new record into one of the tables in my database.
I have a client app that calls the ejbCreate method on the entity bean at which point the Entity EJB takes control, gets a valid connection from the SS EJB, runs a simple working SQL SELECT statement (obtaining correct values), and then attempts to perform an insert into a table using a prepared statement. My problem is that the application runs fine without any errors and all calls are made and all calls seem to be working fine. I have checked to make sure that the Datasource I am using is AutoCommit= false and it is and there are no exceptions being thrown in my EJB's but yet it appears as though the SQL statements executeUpdate() command is not being committed as their is no rows created in the database. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong. I have all ACL parameters set up correctly and as I stated before the entire app runs without errors and I do have a SELECT statment that is working properly within the same method as the INSERT statement which is not!!! Please send any suggestions!!

I am using CMT, it is activated by default on Entity Beans I believe. The bean itself is marked as TX_REQUIRED so I believe all the methods automatically are all TX_REQUIRED.
Here is my Bean ejbCreate Method, My PK class, and my ejb-jar.xml file-- I've pasted them below for convenience.
              ejbCreate:
public CustomerPK ejbCreate(String aUserName, String aPassword, String aFirstName,
String aMiddleInit, String aLastName, String aEmailAddr)

                   try {
                        conn=getConnection();
                        conn.setAutoCommit(false);

  • [SOLVED] Arch Kernel causes problems

Since my very first time installing Arch, i was getting some errors like
Cannot parse block device ids for /dev/sdb2
    Cannot find root device /dev/sdb2
and eventually i had found a work-around, by taking the kernel and initramfs files (both 2.6.25.20-114) from another Linux, and also the corresponding modules directory. (Works perfect, using Firefox on it at the moment.)
Now i want to upgrade my kernel eventually (don't have to actually, but i want to, and the problem should not happen anyway) and still, after retrieving the new kernel through pacman (creating the vmlinuz26 and kernel26.img files in /boot, as well as the modules directory) and using it, i get the SAME problem.
The Arch kernels just won't work for me...
Does anyone have an idea what it could be?
(And is there any way to copy the exact error-output i get while trying to boot?)
    Thanks.

  • Update/Rollback Problem

    Hi
I have a problem, I ran an update query by accident updating around 4.2 million rows by accident. After around 10 seconds I hit "Cancel" in TOAD and then hit rollback.
However it looks as though it is still processing some 4 hours later as shown using the query below.
    select a.sid, a.serial#, b.sql_text
    from v$session a, v$sqlarea b
    where a.sql_address=b.address
    and a.username='USER'
Is there anyway I can get it to stop safely and rollback?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

If you check the used_ublk from v$transaction for your session, you should be able to see if the amount is changing over time. If it's going down, then it's still rolling back. If it's going up, then it's still updating.
You could ask your DBA to kill the process for you, but it's unlikely that that would speed things up any, as it's still got to finish rolling back!

  • CUCM upgrade from 6.1(2) to 6.1(3b) - rollback problems...

    Hi all,
I have upgraded our test lab CUCM server from 6.1(2) to 6.1(3b). Although we have a genuine MCS server bought from Cisco, we run only the demo licencing on the server (simply because we only have a few test phones and gateways running on the server).  We have rebuilt this server a few times so we may have had more licences installed previously - the 'demo' licencing seems to allow me test all i need to.
The upgrade to 6.1(3b) seemed to go ok.   My only concern was the time it took after the CUCM server restarted for the IP phones to 'register' - seemed to take 30 mins or more before they jumped into life and re-registered etc?  Is that normal?  (I suspect the CallManager Service took a while to start?)
However, I have had a few problems when trying to rollback the upgrade to the older partition. I followed the Cisco doco and all seemed to work ok, the CLI showed it selecting the old partition on the reboot, and then starting services for 6.1(2) [lots of green [OK] messages etc)
Upon the full restart of the server, i noticed that the CallManager Service and the Cisco Messaging Service were NOT running!   I tried all i could think of to get these to restart:Went to Service Activation – stopped and restarted the CallManager service and the other one.  Then went back to Feature Services. CallManager was ‘running’ then after i refresh the page it reverts to ‘Not Running’ !   IP Phones therefore do NOT register.
Tried a restart of the server (same partition) - Watching CLI during reboot – all green [OK] messages. No errors reported that i can see. IP phones still dont register when server restarts. The two services remain 'Not Running'
I then restarted using 'switch' and ran the upgraded CUCM version - this started fine, and all ran ok!  Phones regsitered, all seems fine!
I have attached a few screenshots, not sure if they are relevant or of any use.
Has anyone seen this issue before after an upgrade?  I am not overly comcerned becaue the 'upgrade' worked, but it would be nice to know i can rollback if i need to do incase of any issues.
Is there anywhere in CUCM i can check to see if the failed services are generating an error message or a reason for them not starting?
    Thoughts appreciated
    Rgds

    Hey Andy,
    Hope all is well buddy!
The problems you are seeing here are most likely "purely" License related due to the changes
that were implemented between 6.1(2) and 6.1(3). I don't see this being a problem with permanent
    "production" Licenses. Have a look;
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases 7.1(2) and 6.1(3) introduce these licensing enhancements.
    Description
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases 7.1(2) and 6.1(3) identify the state of a license; that is, if it is missing, if it is a demo license, or if it is an uploaded license. In addition, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration warns you whether Cisco Unified Communications Manager currently operates with demo licenses, with an insufficient number of licenses, or with an incorrect software feature license.
    GUI Changes
The following windows display the state of licenses in Cisco Unified Communications Manager
    Administration:
    - Cisco Unified Communications Manager currently operates with demo licenses, so upload the appropriate license files.
    - Cisco Unified Communications Manager currently operates with an insufficient number of licenses, so upload additional license files.
    - Cisco Unified Communications Manager does not currently use the correct software feature license. In this case, the Cisco CallManager service stops and does not start until you upload
the appropriate software version license and restart the Cisco CallManager service.
License File Upload (System > Licensing > License File Upload)-This window displays a message
that uploading the license file removes the demo licenses for the feature.
    http://www.aironet.info/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/6_1_3/cucm-rel_note-613a.html#wp472518
Now for the Cisco Messaging Service
This is only used in "Legacy" integrations which I'm guessing is not
the setup for your lab, so you should be good to go here.
    Cisco Messaging Interface Service
The Cisco Messaging Interface allows you to connect a simplified message desk interface (SMDI)-compliant external **Third Party** voice-mail system with the Cisco CallManager. The CMI service provides the communication between the voice-mail system and Cisco CallManager. The SMDI defines a way for a phone system to provide a voice-mail system with the information needed to intelligently process incoming calls.
    Hope this helps!
