L2 pseudowire interworking ATM-Ethernet

Hello.
I am trying to configure a L2 pseudowire L2 that ejecutes inteworking in the following topology
the pswudowire is not active buy I don't find anything wrong in the configuration. I Have tried with in and ethernet interworking but the pseudowire alway remais as showed below

  • VPLS (ATM-Ethernet) using only one circuit in the main ethernet site

    Hi Everybody
We are needing to connect the following topology in our MPLS net:
The main site connects to the net through an Ethernet circuit and the remote sites are connected through ATM circuits. we need to use only one vlan in the main site. It is possible to connect this topoligy using only one vlan in the main site through VLPS? or pseudowires? which other solution can we use to solve this problem?
    thanks a lot.

I understand your best option will be to run AToM/L2VPN internetworking and have a PVC from a remote locate to be "internetworked" to a sub-interfaces (representing a vlan) at the central site which have an Ethernet connection.
Take a look at this example:

  • How data is placed in to a pseudowire

    hi,
how is data is placed on to the pseudowire coming from the
    attachment circuit.
    |-------ac---| |--------pw--------|  |-----ac------|
ce ---------pe ----------------- pe ---------- ce

AToM encapsulates Layer 2 frames at the ingress PE and sends them to a corresponding PE at the other end of a pseudowire, which is a connection between the two PE routers. The egress PE removes the encapsulation and sends out the Layer 2 frame.
The successful transmission of the Layer 2 frames between PE routers is due to the configuration of the PE routers. You set up the connection, called a pseudowire, between the routers. You specify the following information on each PE router:
•The type of Layer 2 data that will be transported across the pseudowire, such as Ethernet, Frame Relay, or ATM
•The IP address of the loopback interface of the peer PE router, which enables the PE routers to communicate
•A unique combination of peer PE IP address and VC ID that identifies the pseudowire

  • L2TPv3 tunnel up but pings are failing

    Hi,
I have configured an L2TP tunnel between loopbacks on an ASR1004 and an ASR1001. The tunnel gets established, and even shows me some two-way traffic counters (they don't increment in line with ICMP requests so don't know if they represent my ping attempts per se).
When I generate ICMP traffic, I learn MAC addresses on both ends, including within the ARP tables on the hosts. However, the pings time out. I have attached a diagram and have pasted some show outputs below.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • ATM over Ethernet and pseudowires

    Hello.
Could somebody tell me if there is a Cisco Router that can work ATM over ethernet. This ATM circuits comming from an ethernet interface sholuld be transported as pseudowires through an IP/MPLS Backbone. Routers 12000 can do this? wich version do I need?
    Thanks

    Hi Narayan. Thank you.
I have now the following doubt. If we have the following topology:
    lan-(CE)--ethe--(pe)--MPLS--(pe)--atm-(ce)-lan
Consider a lot of atm access at the right side, but we need to use only one vlan at the left side to connect all the remote atm sites.
You are telling me that we can convert the left CE in to a PE. But Can we maintain the router as a CE but terminating the ATM circuits (pseudowires) transported over one one vlan? ( atm over ethernet)
    I appreciate everyting.

  • ATM to Gigabit Ethernet Migration

    Hi,
How do you migrate from ATM to GE running a parallel backbone, from ELAN TO VLANS ?
The ATM switches are Madge switches and the GE switches are 6509s.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

An ATM Card in the 6509 would be a good way of doing this, but the BIG problem is that they are very expensive and wouldn't like to suggest that you buy an OC-12 card just for the migration. Maybe you could rent an OC-12 card for the period of the migration - I don't know whether this is possible.
The OC-12 ATM card configuration looks like this:-
    interface ATM0
    atm preferred phy A
    atm pvc 1 0 5 qsaal
    atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi
    no atm ilmi-keepalive
    interface ATM0.1 multipoint
    lane client ethernet 1 SNMP-ETH1
    interface ATM0.2 multipoint
    lane client ethernet 101 HUMETH1
    interface ATM0.3 multipoint
    lane client ethernet 102 EGEETH1
    interface ATM0.4 multipoint
    lane client ethernet 107 HUMETH2
I'm not sure how you map the ELANs to VLANs in the Madge config. Ours is based on IBM 8265 equipment with an MSS routing module.
    Hope thats of some help.

  • Is Metro-ethernet Secured ? Compare with FR/ATM

    Hi,
Just would like to understand if Metro-ethernet has the same security level as FR and ATM ? Metro-ethernet has broadcast nature and it seems mirroring ethernet frame is much more easier than FR and ATM . Is there any study onto the security issues presented in the Metro-ethernet technology ?
I see a lot of customers doing IPSec on the Metro-ethernet and they don't do this on the FR or ATM links ?
    Thanks

I have not seen any document, but my understanding is that FR and ATM networks do not have broadcast capability which is an inherent security feature. Sites can communicte only if a VC is configured between them. In metro ethernet, broadcasting is possible and the providers have to implement security to islolate customers by configuring some feature. Since the customers may not trust the level of security provided by the providers, they may choose to run IPSec over this type of access.

  • 15305 and 15454 Ethernet interworking

    Hi Folk,
Wonder if anyone can help out there.
Would like to provide a LAN Extension service over an SDH network. Does anyone know whether the GigE and FE cards on the 15305 interwork with the 15454 CE or ML ethernet cards?
Have looked on the Cisco site and am somewhat confused. The 15305 uses GFP-F to map Ethernet into SDH. The 15454 cards appear to encapsulate the ethernet frame before it uses GFP-F.
    Could someone enlighten me!!
    Regards,
    Phil

    Hi Phil
yes, of course they do. You have two possibilites. You can use the 15305 modules in L1 mode and connect them to the CE cards on 15454. Or you can use the 15454 ML cards, maybe with a L2 RPR ring. Then you can switch the 15305 modules to L2 mode with a integrated L2 switch.
CE cards anf the 15305 modules in L1 mode is always P2P and pure ethernet transport without any L2 or VLAN stuff.
ML card and 15305 modules in L2 mode use a L2 switch with a lot of L2 features, like VLAN, STP, QoS and so on.
By the way, both CE and 15305 modules in L1 use GFP-F and are fully compatible.
I hope this helps. Please rate all posts.

  • Can FRF.12 work with FR-ATM interworking?

When transport VoIP over a low speed link (64K). we found the voice quality be affect of data trasfered at same time. And the network used FR-ATM interworking, we found the problem was cause by serialization delay. Has any other solution than MLP reduce the packet size such as FRF.12?

So you have a VPN/MPLS and you intend to use FRF.12 between CE routers. The connections between PE and CE are ATM/FR Interworking.
This scheme wills not work because the fragments have to assembled in the PE routers. The link between PE and CE is an IP connection.
Any scheme of fragmentation has to be used between PE and CE routers; hence, you can use LFI between a connection Interworking FR/ATM.

  • Ethernet Pseudowire over IP/MPLS

    Hello there,
Anyone has any case study example regarding transmitting Ethernet PW over MPLS/IP core network?
    Thanks

    Hi chris,
Here is a link gives you brilliant explanation and also exampls configuration for EoMPLS and other stuff.
In fact this is taken from the  Layer 2 VPN Architectures book by Cisco Press. I found it extremely helpful. It covers both the modes RAW mode(port based) and TAGGED mode(vlan based mode)

  • L2VPN Interworking Problem

    There is a scenario:
    (CE1)7600-----FE VLAN(dot1q)-----(PE1)7200VXR(NPE300)----FE----(PE2)7200VXR(NPE400)----atm----(ATM cloud)------frame relay------(CE2)2811
I want to bridge traffic between Ethernet interface to ATM interface on PE Router Cisco7200 with L2VPN Interworking.I used the IP mode interworking, VC is UP, I'm trying to ping from 7600 to 2811,it can't work.I want to know why? if you have any other suggestion to make the L2VPN Interworking configuration on 7600 to 2811 , please advise.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi mate,
I think you need to configure Frame-Relay to ATM service interworking between PE2 & CE2.
    Kindly refer below given link:

  • Can't call out on PSTN after ethernet adapter failure in J4W

    Hi all
    Okay here goes.
We are currently deploying new laptops in our business. It's the brand new Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd G. together with a USB based docking station. Unfortunately there is a very annoying bug with the docking station. The problem is that the dock ethernet NIC, suddenly disappears from time to time in Windows. This means that Jabber for Windows is failing over to the Wi-Fi network. This should be okay, but we are seeing an issue with J4W, when the ethernet NIC disappear.
The problem is that J4W can't call out to external phone numbers/PSTN, but all internal calls are working fine. Also it's possible to call from an external number/PSTN to the J4W client. But still, the J4W client can't call an external no. You will only hear a busy tone when trying to make an external call.
It doesn't help restarting the J4W client, we have to reboot the entire computer to make the client be able to call external numbers over Wi-Fi. Meaning that the ethernet NIC on the docking station, isn't reappearing after a reboot of the laptop. To make it reappear, we have to disconnect and connect the docking station cable.
Atm. we are waiting for a fix from Lenovo, but in the meantime I can't understand why we can't call external no. when the ethernet NIC fails. I mean, we can call external numbers. over Wi-Fi, but not when the ethernet NIC are failing.
Can anyone point me into the correct direction here?
    Specs:
    CUCM: 8.6.2.22900-9
    CUP: 8.6.4.13900-4
    J4W: 9.7
    Gateway: Cisco 2911
    OS: Windows 7 32 bit.

    Hello Taxi-Anne,
    Welcome to the forums.
Try following the steps below to turn off the call forwarding:
    1. Touch Phone.
    2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
    3. Touch the Settings icon.
    4. Touch Call Forwarding.
    5. Touch the required option (e.g., Forward If Busy).
    6. Touch Save.
Let us know if this helps. Have a good day.

    blaise thanks for the warning
mike prev drivers have autoinstalled using run in the download options do you know why this is no longer?
No probelm there mate, people who did manage to install them found that Windows would blue screen on boot until they rolled back to the previous version via Safe mode. Although I don't use my Ethernet ports ATM (currently using a prepaid USB wireless stick - long story), I tried to install the drivers a while ago and found they wouldn't update the system no matter how I tried..

  • Dynamic bandwidth selection for PPPoE over Ethernet/VLAN

Hello all, hope you are doing great.
I'm planning to deploy PPPoE Server (Cisco Router 7609) for a ISP. This ISP will provide Internet connection for customer over Ethernet.
I have to provide a solution to assign bandwidth to each customer by RADIUS and I find some clues that Dynamic Bandwidth Selection (DBS) should be the answer. Unfortunately, DBS only support PPPoA or PPPoE over ATM.
If you have any experience with equivalent function, please help me. Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    Hiep Nguyen.

    Hiep,
I think I have figured this out.  Here is the test config on my PPPoE server:

I was able to generate enough traffic with ping to meet the exceed action in and have it drop packets.

  • Interworking on Static Routing as IGP

Was testing interworking between Vlan over ethernet and FR. As long as my LDP was on static routing, I couldnt reach end-to-end. The moment i configured OSPF as my routing protocol it came up. Can anyone let me know what the reason could be ?

    Gautam,
    This is actually normal behavior.
Before the label learnt via an LDP peer is coupled to a route in the FIB, the next-hop IP address of the route needs to match one of the interface IP addresses bound to the LDP peer (see below). So basically it will not work without a next IP address.
    r2#sh mpls ldp nei
Peer LDP Ident: 3.3.3.3:0; Local LDP Ident 2.2.2.2:0
    TCP connection: 3.3.3.3.11004 - 2.2.2.2.646
State: Oper; Msgs sent/rcvd: 27/27; Downstream
    Up time: 00:15:07
    LDP discovery sources:
    Serial3/0, Src IP addr: 192.168.23.3
Addresses bound to peer LDP Ident:
3.3.3.3 192.168.34.3 192.168.23.3 <++++++ the route next hop has to match one of these addresses.
    Hope this helps,
