LabVIEW & ABB DCS

Hi wanted to ask if LabVIEW 8.0 and its DSC module can be used to interface with ABB Distributed Control System (DCS) via OPC?
If possible, anyone could offer any website for reference of information? Thanks.

HWJ wrote:
Hi to be more specific, the
question should be if anyone knows which are the OPC
servers that supports the ABB DCS systems?
and is LabVIEW and its module able to program with this OPC server?
Are there any specific OPC servers that can only be used? or any should do the job? ie SQL?
I
would think that the best way to find this out would be to contact ABB
directly. If they do not have an OPC server for their DCS system then
things are getting a little hairy I'm afraid. Maybe there are ABB
partners out there that have developed such a solution if ABB didn't do
it themselves but then the ABB sales people should know that too and
they probably are quite willing to tell you if there are such solutions.
Once you have an OPC server solution for your system LabVIEW DSC will
simply need to be configured to connect to this server and access the
tags yuou are interersted in.

  • Has anyone done any control of an ABB robot with labview and robotstudio?

I am busy with a piece of test equipment where I need to read data from and send position commands to a ABB robot. This robot uses their new IRC5 controller. I have got their OPC server but I am having difficulty in getting it to respond to the commands I am sending via OPC. I was hoping someone has done this before and can perhaps assist me in getting going.

    Hi,
I'm trying the solution like your, but communication with  ABB.Robotics.Controllers.dll (. NET) and convert between C# to LabVIEW,
it was success but i'm not fisnish yet to send position or command to the controller because some class not a public constructors.
any update please let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Connecting to ABB RETA-01 with Ethernet IP

I am trying to connect to an ABB DCS800 drive controller through a RETA-01 communications module using Ethernet/IP.
I am getting the error "Unable to connect to the network path specified". I am able to ping the ip address of the module in the command window so I know the ip address is good.
I am new to Ethernet/IP as it was just suggested to me a couple of weeks ago to use vs modbus/TCP as being easier/better to work with. Working in LV2011 and using the Get/Set Attribute vi's in the toolkit.
Any suggestions or help/direction would be appreciated.

    Hi Craig,
You should probably check to see if your internet/IP driver is up-to-date and compadible with your controller and LabVIEW 2011 as well as the controller's firmware. I would also recommend using MODBUS I/O. You will need to figure out which registers to use. ABB should be able to help you figure that out. This is needed to set up shared variables used to control the interfacing communication protocol between LabVIEW and the modbus I/O Server.

  • NI Modbus Lib in LabVIEW 2014

Does Anyone see a Problem with Using NI Modbus Lib in Labview 2014 is meant for labVIEW version 7.1-8.6.  NI Directed me this way instead of the DCS Module since I am only using Modbus communication and that is just a very small part of the Module.  It installed and shows up on the user pallets just fine and wires up the way you would except it to:
However when I run the program I time out in the read register vi.  the example in the library does as well so I am at a loss as to what might be causing this issue.

  • Network Camera D-Link DCS 900 Integration

    Hello,
I have a D-Link DCS 900 network camera which comes with an Internet Explorer live video feature. It has the ability of using an IP to which you can enter via the Internet or the Ethernet. (see picture below).
Now, My question is this: I would like to get the video from the camera from within Labview in order to have control over its size, flip the image in 90 degrees if neccessary and so on.
Can I do that with this camera ?
    Attachments:
    DCS 900.JPG ‏42 KB

    Mic_Scale,
I am not quite sure how the interface to your particular camera works, but I am fairly certain that you can pull the feed into LabVIEW. There is actually a related forum post discussing this type of application with your camera. It may be useful to read this thread concerning your application.
Essentially your application will involve an ActiveX object and making calls to the object to retrieve the video. Because you have the camera driver installed on your machine, you will have access to the ActiveX methods and properties. Depending on the various properties and methods, you may be able to manipulate the image however you need. Please take a look at a the linked Developer Zone document for an overview of using ActiveX in LabVIEW.
I hope this information is useful for you. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Thanks,
    Mike

How can I Remove Remove Enhanced DCS Deployment Support in additional installer list for old labview Versions.
I installed labview 8.5 after installing labview 8.2 and I make a project and create setup for it but when I build, it has problem. it need labview 8.2 install directory (i.e. C:\National Instruments Downloads\LabVIEW\8.2) but I have removed It from my PC,I think I must remove labview 8.2 Enhanced DCS Deployment Support to solve this problem. How Can I do it.

    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/274A74A901399D0486256F32007295F9?OpenDocument
Tambien he encontrado el siguiente enlace en los foros de unos drivers no NI para poder comunicarte con una webcam:

  • Labview with industrial robot connection

    Hi,
I am in the field of industrial Robots Automation and I am impressed with Labview. So I am plannig to use this as HMI for our industrial robots. Can you please tell me is it possible to connect labview with ABB, Commau, Motoman, Fanuc and KUKA. If yes can you please send me the details.
I saw a third party software called imagin lab but they are doing only for kuka, denso and mistibushi.
    Thank you

You've listed 5 different robot types, and while I'm sure that if those robots are able to communicate with any outside resource they'll be able to do so with LabVIEW; they are five different types of robots and will probably require different LabVIEW solutions for each.
The robot model and the specifics of exactly what type of communication you're looking for are also required to know "how to do it."
A couple of quick searches tell me that OPC may be required for some of the robot types you listed.   A good place to start with that is here: http://www.ni.com/opc/
Without the specific details it will be difficult to locate an existing solution.
If a custom solution is required, you may be able to find some assistance creating one on the forums.  But again, details will be requried.

  • Labview via excom-link communication with ABB450

How can LabView communicate with ABB 450 via Excom link?

    Bengra,
Thank you for using the discussion forums at ni.com. I am having some difficulty finding information on excom. Is it a protocol, a hardware connection, or both?
I did find that the ABB 450 supports the modbus protocol ( see http://www.abb.com/global/abbzh/abbzh251.nsf!OpenDatabase&db=/global/seapr/seapr035.nsf&v=6311E&e=us&m=9F2&c=0898F68E79FBDE37412567FC003028CE ). This means you can use the modbus driver from our Industrial Automation OPC Servers CD ( see http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/13EE0A9E2C43F0DB86256A6100722651?OpenDocument ) to complete your LabVIEW application. If this solution is not satisfactory, please post some additional information about excom, and we will check into that.

  • ABB SattLine OPC

    Hi
I have tried to communicate with the ABB SattLine OPC server (ADS.OPC.2 in figure 1).
I can read connect and read/write tags with the Matrikon OPC explorer,
    but have problems with labview.
I can see and browse the server however I do receive a message which
says "the server is connected and can be browsed but it will not be possible
    to retreive extended item information"...
I can see the tags but when I select the proper tag Labview just shuts down (figure2)
I have no problem can communicate with the same code with MATLAB OPC server
with MAtrikon opc server and the Labview OPC servers (simulators) no problem
at all, just in the case of the Sattline I have thi behavior.
Any comment would be highly appreaciated.
    Cheers
    Zoltan

    Hi,
I still have problem to get arround this thing....No rpogress at all.. but here it is what I did:
    1. I found the server explorer on the NI site and installed. I can read/write the data
ABB server (ADS.OPC.2) beutifully, see ( the figure attached).
    2. In LAbview 8.0 with DSC 8.0 I tried two things:
2.a -  the same as before. If I try to use any of the OPC examples from the opc.dll
e.g. "Browse to OPC item.vi" I can open the browser, I can see the OPC server
I can even see the group and the tags, but when I click on any of the tags again
Labview crashes with the error message (see the figure). This is the same original problem...
2.b - Now still in Labview 8.0 where I have DSC 8.0 installed I added to a new project
New --> I/O server --> OPC --> and add the ADS.OPC.2 from the list of registered OPC servers and add
as a linrary to the project ( this is fine so far)
But when I right click on the newly added OPC1 and check the View I/O items I cannot see any tags.
(when I dod the same procedure with any other OPC server, e.g. MAtrikon no problem).
The same if I still go ahead an to add new variable I cannot see the tags from the server. Only
the NI OPC CLient Status group appears (which does not belong the the ADS.OPC.2).
    3. Finally, I downloaded Labview 8.5. I do not have DSC 8.5 so I only tried method 2.a. That is the simplest
example from the opc.dll crahes Labview.
During all this time I have no problem to communicate in Labview with other simulated opc sertvers,
and at the same time I have no problem reading/writing data to the real ADS.OPC.2 using other
the Matrikon or the NI server Explorer...
I am running out of ideas ...:-(((
    Thanks
    Zoltan
