  • Page lag on Infinity

When I click on a new tab and enter a URL or click link on a page that I'm already on, there is usually a longer than expected lag before the page appears. When I say 'longer than expected I mean up to 20 minutes! Sometimes the lag is so long that I'm timed out of the site I'm on, e.g. the medical practice I use. I have gone over the issue with BT technical help. They have tested my download speed and it seems reasonable. They then checked the network in my area and said that they could see a lot of technical issues in my area. So they sent around a BT engineer who did find a problem on the line outside my house. He fixed the line but did say that he wasn't sure if that would fix the problem of these incredible long lags between pages. It hasn't and they continue. I use a Mac and wonder if that is the problem. I live in Tottenham, London, so the local phone hub, from the outside, looks like it is terrible antiquated. (I mention where I live because that's how service providers often treat my area). I am thinking of switching to another provider. Do you think that will help or do you have any suggestions about fixing these long lags? Regards Audrey2

    I'm on wireless.
The bt technical help did a speed test while I was on the line to them and (I can't remember the eaxact figures), they were considered good...something like 38 whatever bites. But I'm wondering if I should do an independent test, i.e. when watching videos on Youtube the videos are stopping all the way through having to rebuffer. So the speeds can't be up to much!
I'm so fed up, I'm thinking about going to OFCOM to try and get my contract cancelled.
I think I will do that independent test and post on this forum
A neighbour of mine is also having problems with BT Infinity.
Two other neigbours who are with Virgin suggested getting an i-plate (whatever that is). Do you know anything about i-plates and whether they're helpful with this kind of problem?
Furthermore, the service is either falling over or spiking. When it spikes I lose the work I've just done......grrrrrrrr.
    Suggestions appreciated......
    Regards,

  • BT INFINITY lag spike on xbox live with WIRED conn...

    hey.
im looking for some advice/support with regards to my infinity service on xbox.
for the last 4 days, whilst playing online i experience constant disconnections, kicking from xbox live parties and ingame lag constantly.
now ive raised a fault with bt, and they claim all is fine on their end. now ive reset my router about 5 times.. the nat is open and i am on a wired connection. i even tried my home hub 3 to replace the 4 and same problem prevails
im at a loss as to what to do anymore, it is impossible to play on a connection, and paying for a service when it suddenly decides to turn this way has puzzled me completely.
i've tried to port forward etc, but that doesnt seem to work..
can anybody offer any advice as to what to do?
could it be a temporary problem, or what can i do to fix it.
if i get an engineer out, itll cost, but the fault isnt on my end.
i've problem solved everything to my knowledge so far, and no luck
    any help welcome.
    thanks.

at first i was told their was a fault, then i was told it was fixed, then there wasnt a fault?
i asked them about routing and they didnt understand my accent (geordie) so im on the chat now.
this needs to be sorted though, how am i supposed to get good on this new cod!

  • BT Infinity still lagging with Fifa on Xbox One (W...

So I made many posts last year about My unlimited BT Infinity package ( ~55mb down, 16m/b up ) not working with Fifa 14/13 on the 360. I counted about 20 or 30 people experiencing the same issues last year.
The bad news is its exactly the same on the Xbox one so anyone who had trouble with delay/lag reaching easo.ea.com last year dont waste your time with Infinity if you plan on getting xbox One.
averaging 120-160ms ping on the servers that xbox one uses in california for Fifa absolute joke. I had a better connection back in 2004 playing team fortress.
Any word or hope of BT attempiting to look into the long acknowledged pronlem.
Also random other question but I read Xbox one servers can use ipv6 /ipsec protocols how do we set this up on out bt routers?

IPV6 is currently not available on BT residential services as to server issues they still happen and nearly always appear at the game servers end and they always seem unwilling to admit to the problems  and similar problems  seem to appear  on  various ISP's world wide  not just BT

  • BT Infinity Lag and Disconnections when another co...

Hello, I have had BT infinity since the 28th of January and love the new found speeds I now have. However whenever my sister uses the internet for Netflix and other on-demand streaming services my connection on both my laptop and more importantly my Xbox drops out and I get disconnected.
This to me shouldn't happen especially on an infinity line. I am on Unlimited Infinity 1 + Calls as the maximum speed for my line would be just over 40Mbps so going onto Infinity 2 would have been pointless.
    Information on my home setup:
All devices are connected wirelessly - NOTE - I know that a wired connection would help but this is not possible due to distance between the router and my room. Also I think this is just a cop-out answer, it shouldn't just disconnect when another person uses it even on wireless.
There is a total of 4 devices that can connect at any one time but usually only three - The Xbox, My laptop and my sister's laptop.
The disconnections happen whenever my sister uses streaming services even at 2:00am like today which is what has brought me to this forum.
Any advice and answers would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it is just my sister's laptop causing it I think its the fact she is using things like Netflix at the same time as me playing xbox. I had thought about those Powerline Adaptor's if thats what you mean by "homeplugs", but it would require me to put an long ethernet cable through the ceiling into the room above and do it from there as there would be no other way due to the location of my router.
    Would that be okay?
Do these Powerline Adaptors give the same speed and reliability as a wired connection?
There is no need to install ethernet cable with homeplugs, as that's the point of them.
The major benefit of powerline networking is that users can easily establish a network using a home's existing electrical wiring as the communication medium. There is no need to drill holes in walls or ceilings to route new wiring and, as a result, installation is quick, easy and relatively inexpensive. Powerline networking is an easily accomplished networking method for AC-powered devices, which by necessity must already be near power outlets.

  • New Infinity 2 Order

    Hi Guys,
Ive recently placed a new Infinity 2 order, porting from a TalkTalk ADSL service.
When I placed the order I did not have my TalkTalk MAC code, however I received this on Sunday via email.
When I go into the ordertracking page to input the MAC code, the web page does not recodnise the code (I never get past Step 1 of whats indicated to be a 2 step process)
I called the 0800 number indicated on the BT welcome email, and gave the MAC code verbally to somone who spoke English as a second language.  He appeared to struggle with the MAC code input as well, and after several attempts announced there seemed to be a systems problem, but it had finally gone through.
My issue is that when I look at the ordertracker today (48 hours after verbally being told the MAC code has been accepted) the order update still says that the MAC code is outstanding and no dates have been confirmed for installation.
Is this a problem, or does the ordertracker status always lag behind the status on any internal BT system?
    Cheers,
    JKW.

    So the plot thickens....
Ive talked to a UK BT agent who checked the order progress, and they confirmed that the MAC code is still outstanding.
I gave them the TalkTalk MAC code I was issued with, only to be told that its in the wrong format!
The issued MAC has the following format: XXXX1234567/XX12X.
However the BT portal is requesting the MAC in the following format: XXXX12345678/XX12X.  So my TalkTalk MAC code is one digit short.  BT asked me to go back to Talk Talk and request they check the MAC code issued is correct, which they have.
They also said the MAC code digits can be between 7-9 digits long.
I was also then told by Talk Talk that the MAC code for my current service is actually provided by BT themselves (I assume via Openreach?) as Im on a BT provided LLU service.  In addition, I cant request for another MAC code  until a full 30 days has elapsed from when the current one was issued.
My Infinity 2 order is currently still unconfirmed, awaiting MAC code.
Are there any BT moderators who can assist?  I seem to be caught in a Catch 22 loop between BT and Talk Talk, with BT themself not recodnising the MAC code that they apparently issued to Talk Talk!
I just knew this would turn into a mare........
    JKW.

  • BT Infinity, XboX and Battlefield 3

    Hi,
I have a problem with playing Battlefield 3 on Xbox since i upgraded to 40meg infinity and the homehub 3.
The game is no longer fluid during gameplay it is stuttering, laggy and overall feels like it's been covered in treacle - i didn't suffer anything like this before i upgraded.
I was also getting the same disconnection issues that others have posted about but i manged to solve that by forwarding the correct port and disableing uPnP..
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

What some people have found is that because the ping on Infinity is so low, game servers have something called lag compensation which effectively increases your latency to a similar level that others in the game is at.
I'm not sure if that's causing your problems.

  • Infinity and online gaming

    Hello
I am relativly new to infinity and was wondering if anyone could tell me why its so bad for online gaming?
My download speeds are virtually always 37.5mb download and between 8 - 9mb upload although upload drops sometmimes to slightly lower

    http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/results.php?t=1333920583&v=15486955
however i always get loads of lag when playing on xbox live, to the point it is not worth playing, it gets worse than when I was on normal copper wire broadband.
I have also noticed that there is quite a delay before web pages open when browsing the internet in general, my ping used to be pretty consistent at around 17 - 20ms before I switched to infininty but now seems to jump around lot even going as high as 300ms on occasion.
my line profile seems to have set at 38.10mb which I am happy with, and the engineer who installed my infinity said that my line stats were excellent.
all this said then why do i seem to be suffering when using xbox live??

    Hi Cameron
No I have been trying it with the wireless disabled, although on our old connection this wasnt an issues, myself and my son could both use our xboxs together on the one connection and still it was better than at presen
I didnt have the cable in the gigabyte port, I have now though, what does this port do?
Yes port forwarding set to xbox live

  • Xbox Live and Playstation Network keeps lagging/dr...

I am starting to get really annoyed now at the fact that since Sunday the 2nd of November I have had constant problems with my BT Infinity lagging and dropping connection with my Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Their are other devices connected to my HH3 and they don't lose connection ever, they have just recently received slow speeds.
I have tried the usual restart the router etc many times and still nothing, I have an Open NAT on both consoles. So I know this is not the issue. I have read the forums a lot lately and noticed that other people in the North East of England are experiencing the same gaming problems as me.
All the service checkers state that everything is fine with my connection when it clearly isn't. I have spoke to someone at BT in the online support chat and they said they aren't trained to deal with this problem and are expecting me to pay on top of the £40 a month I am paying for the BT Infinity service I am not getting, in order for someone else at BT to have  a look at my problem.
I have seen somewhere on the forums that people have been told it is a Routing issue that will be fixed in 24 hours, the post was yesterday and still no fix as of yet.
Will someone at BT be able to tell me what the problem is exactly and when they are going to fix it?

  • Excessive Lag on Xbox Live, other Services ok. Fa...

    Hi, hope you can help.
Since swtiching from TalkTalk at the end of February we;ve been getting an unusual and frustrating amount of lag on Xbox live during multi-player, and some PC Games.  The overall broadband speed is the same as it was before with Talk Talk and I've tried our old Netgear router, portforwarding in the HomeHub 3 to the Xbox directly etc but no improvement. (Made sure we had open NAT etc)
It can be incredibly frustrating.  We're used to occasional lag as it is 'the internet' but this is not the same but hard to describe!  We'd not had any problems with Talk Talk but due to the pretty low speeds available in our area we'd signed up for Infinity as soon as it said we could get it.... turned out the availability was 'in error' on the website/order system (the Infinity order was all through and we had an install date etc) , we'd already left Talk Talk in preparation and had no broadband so signed up for BT Broadband while we waited for Infinity to actually be available...  All in all, Whta was supposed to be a positive move has left us with a worse connection for the things that are important to the family
Anyway Hope this is ok to do a new post, wasn't sure whether to tag it onto one of the others, but they are getting pretty long.
We are on 'interleaved' at the moment, can the mods help us get switched to Fastpath to see if that improves it?
Posting stats, managed to keep the router on without a reset for 23 days now that we realise a reset doesn't fix anything!

nice stable connection so contact the mods and ask to be moved from interleaved to fast

  • BT Infinity is slower than ASDL for me...

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to BT infinity from BT Broadband Option 3. I have never had better Internet speed or service than with BT Broadband, so when I received a phone call to say that BT Infinity had been installed in my area and that I could recieve speeds up to 8x faster than my current speed and only for £1 more than I was currently playing, I snapped it up!
I can honestly say that seems to have been a mistake, the speed on infinity is lousy not only on my laptop, but on my phone and my sister's phones. I cant even load videos or most websites including Hotmail and youtube, pictures (even low resolution) take forever to load, its a miracle that I managed to get on here! My younger brother has even noticed a lot of lagging when playing his Xbox online that he finds the games unplayable. Again this never happened before Infinity.
I'm also lucky if I can get higher than 5.5mbps anytime of the day. I have passed the 10 day period that BT advised about but nothing seems to have changed. Its got to the point where I really want to go back to ASDL. I have read this forum and looked at what other people have said about turning off the Home Hub 3 for 30 secs before restarting which I have done. Even though I am connected wirelessly I never had a problem before and when I connect directly through a cable and disable the Wifi on my laptop I still have trouble!
I will be phoning up the helpline again tomorrow but they are as useless as a chocolate teapot. so hold very little hope of them being able to sort it out.  If anyone can give any other advice I would be most grateful. It amazes me just how much I have come to rely on the internet; from making purchases to chatting to friends, I can t do these things now and its frustating to say the least.

  • Consistently lag/ high pings.

I have been having problems with my bt infinity. When I am gaming or using skype, both of which I do every day, I normally lag.By lag I mean the response time from me to the server increases from about 40ms to over 500ms. I often lag multiple times a minute making gaming and using voip services like skype unbearable.I have been having this issue for the past couple of months.I have done multiple traces routes to various websites, when the lag does happen, the response time stays consistent within my network and to my local exchange on the ip 172.16.18.9 at around 20-30ms. However the response time from the 31.55.165.201 which is from the bt network increases the response time to 550ms. This leads me to believe that when the lag does happen the problem is not with my local network or my local exchange but with the bt network itself.
I have tried the usual of power cycling my bt homehub and the modem. I often do this everyday, but never fixes the problem.
I have tried contacted bt on the phone about this problem. Both times I have been fobed off, firstly promised a call back, which I never got and secondly told to phone bt tech experts.
If anyone has had this problem and managed to fix it, please share.

I recommend you don't do this. DLM will think there is a problem and will increase interleaving and delay on your connection.

  • Sudden increase in BT Infinity Latency - Harwich E...

I have had BT Infinity for a couple of months now and have a SamKnows broadband monitoring unit connected. It originally reported the latency to be 10 milliseconds, however on 9th December at 13:00 it jumped to 20ms and has remained there ever since, so the latency is now worse than it was with my old ADSL2+ (approx 15ms) and my son reports problems with lag now when online gaming.
Does anyone have any idea why the latency should suddenly increase like this, I presume it's a network issue somewhere.
    I have a HomeHub 5 fitted.
Whether it's relevant, my connection was the 1st in the cabinet.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

DLM has probably decided to add interleaving to your line.
If you do a 'tracert bbc.co.uk' you will see the first hop after the HomeHub as around 6ms without interleaving, and around 16 ms with interleaving.
No reason I know of to expect lower pings on FTTC than ADSL.  My bbc pings with BE/ADSL were around 11ms (no interleaving) or 20 ms (interleaving).  With Infinity they are around 22ms (no interleaving) or 31 ms (interleaved).  On BE I had the choice; I chose interleaving for greater stability and lower packet loss depite the ping increase.  With FTTC you don't have the choice; you get what DLM gives you.  I have been on interleaved for most of my Infinity contract, it was removed a couple of months ago (probably as a result of changes to the updated modem firmware).
A lot of my Infinity extra is the silly routing of all my traffic Winchester->Sheffield->London before it leaves the BT network; this adds around 9ms to my ping times; around 4/5 ms each for the hops north and back south.
