Learning Path for a Developer

Hi all,
I work for a university as the only  abap develoepr in our SCLM team. ABAP and Web Dynpro are both easy for me to learn. However, I often get frustrated when writing reports and wd application. One problem is that it is time consuming to find data, for example, student anticipated graduation date. I have to ask my boss for help as I am unable to figure it out by myself. Feel very bad about this. Another major problem is that none of built=in function modules has an explanation on its function or in/out parameters. I don't know what to do without an example or help.
So I am looking for advices regarding what I should learn after ABAP language and what book I should buy.
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
I would suggest to make use of the cookbooks that we provide on our BPX site https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/bpx-highered (section Student Lifecycle Management Best Practices, Implementation Guidelines and Tutorials ).
Plus you could read documentation about the SAP HR-PD framework where SAP SLcM is based on (for the student accounting part you should know that it is related/integrated with FICA. Also for FICA there a numerous of books, documentation available).
Some tips/tricks;
- All off the SAP SLcM transactions start with PIQ*
- Tables start with T7piq*
- Most of the FM start with HRIQ* (includes with RHIQ)
- Swithc framework objects starts with ISHERCM
- Most of the SLcM infotypes are in the17* range
- SAP SLcM object navigator package is named PMIQ* here you will find all of the SLcM related programs.
Hope this helps
Rob

  • Learning path for Dreamweaver newbie?

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a bit of advice one how to get started on a learning path for Dreamweaver CS5.5.
I want to be able to develop e-commerce sites and plan to use Business Cataylst to do the backend stuff.
I developed a few thing in Flash (CS3) a few years back and have a background in IT (although my programming experience is dated!) so I'm not a complete novice but know nothing of HTML/CSS.
I wonder if anyone could give me a steer on what I should concentrate on learning and if there are any particular books/resources I should consider?
    Thanks in advance and regards.

    Hello
I think you answered your own question.  I came to DW as a coding novice and a DW novice and think that I got caught up with learning DW.  That set me back almost a year, I reckon.  The more you know about HTML and CSS and other web technologies, the better partner DW will be.  If you are familiar with Photoshop as a digital editor then it would be like saying the more you know about photography, image processing and camera technique, the easier it will be to learn.  Or maybe, with Illustrator, the more you know about printing and color, the easier that will be.  Dreamweaver however, in my experience is the least intuitive software unless, you have a good grasp of HTML and CSS.
If you learn well with books, then David Powers' has written a good DW manual but there are plenty others.  If you are OK with online learning then you're in luck, there are masses of resources out there.  You could try http://www.w3schools.com/  The thing I like most about that resource is the try-it-yourself onine editor that lets you test the each that the lesson contains.
Once you get started on something and can focus in a bit more, you will be able to narrow down your searches but even then, I'm sure you will find plenty.  After that, use this forum.

  • No oci jdbc11 in java.librar.path for SQL Developer 2.1 EAI

Just migrated my connections from 1.5.5 and tested.
I have the one with the JDK built-in.
I browsed to it and it comes up.
However when I access a connection I get the below:
no oci jdbc11 in java.librar.path for SQL Developer 2.1 EAI

I got it to work using a BASIC call instead of my normal TNS call.
We use MS SMS to package the Oracle client and SQL Developer and push it out to users so we don't have people visiting desktops. Also, we use OID to store the entries instead of a tnsnames file so that we don't have to maintain a TNSNAMES file.
I am testing 2.1 as we would eventually upgrade when it goes GA.
2.1 seems to be built on Oracle 11g. Issue will be that since 99% of our databases are 10gr2 as well as 100% of our client population will be be forced to upgrade the Oracle client to use 2.1 as we do today without lots of changes for the end user?
We don't broadcast the information the average user requires for a BASIC connection so that is out for non technical users..
We have SQL Developer 1.5.5 right now and this is not and issue.
Hopefully, this will be resolved during EAI for 2.1.

  • Learning Flex for Web Development

    Hello Folks,
I am new to flex. Previously i have been developing in PHP. I just thought of implementing a web based inventory management system in flex. Now in PHP, we have one html page that takes input and we re-direct it to a PHP page and it does the insert delete. But in flex, i can do all this on one page.. literally one page using view states.
So should i proceed with this approach OR is there an efficient way of page navigation in flex. Moreover, can we manage sessions in flex.??? Are there good resources for flex development for web like PHP???
    Any help would be appreciated

States should generally only be used for small components that can change their UI in small ways.
In general for navigation in Flex, ViewStack is great, and also TabNavigator, Accordion, etc.
The following links give more info on this and also on using Flex with PHP and MySQL.

  • J2SE path for SQL Developer

I have downloaded and installed SQL Developer 3.0 (JDK not included) for Linux as per Oracle's download page. The page advises that JDK 1.6.0_11 or greater must be installed.
    $ java -version responds:
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.9) (fedora-54.1.9.9.fc14-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)
Do I already have suitable JDK installed? And if so, how do I determine its full path?
When I run script /opt/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldevqloper for the first time, it prompts for the full path of a J2SE installation. Am I being asked for a path to my JDK installation? I don't know what to specify for the path, and the SQL Developer user guide is silent on how to identify this path. Or do I have to install something else before I can get SQL Developer to work?
My background is Oracle DBA, not Java, so I find all this JDK/JRE/J2SE stuff very confusing. Can any one assist with specific instructions on what I need to do to get this product working?
    TIA,
    Jon

    Thanks, Jim.
I downloaded the JDK from Oracle and installed it. I now have /usr/java/jdk1.7.0. At SQL Dev first time startup, I specified that path as the path to the J2SE installation, and SQL Dev started with a popup message:
"You are attempting to run with Java 1.7.0
Running this product is supported with a minimum Java
version of 1.6.0_04 and a maximum version less than 1.7
This product will not be supported, and may not run
correctly if you proceed. Continue anyway?"
Click "Yes", and SQL Developer 3.0.04.34 starts.
Great! Oracle supplies a JDK which does not support an Oracle product?
Anyway, its working. Many thanks for your assistance.
    Jon

  • Learning path for non-supported Database.

I would like to start converting some existant clients to having a flex Interface,

  • Conversion path for existing FieldPoint app

I have an existing application using LabVIEW and FieldPoint (FP1000, with AIO and DIO modules, total I/O count: 6).
It appears that NI is phasing out FieldPoint (price is going through the roof and not recommended for new development).
What would be NI's recommended path for new development (I need to change from RS-232 to Ethernet, or USB) and getting the price situation under control?

Irene: thank you for your response.
It appears that compactFieldPoint will require a significant rework of the existing software due to the programmable controller on the cFP-1804.
My existing application contains a user interface as well as the I/O control logic and runs on a desktop computer. If I understand the compactFieldPoint architecture correctly, I will have to break the application into two pieces, one to control the I/O (residing on the cFP-1804) and the other providing the user interface (residing on a desktop or other suitable platform).
Am I correct in my interpretation, above? Is there a supported NI product that I can switch to that will avoid the software rework and provide the distributed I/O functionality of the existing FieldPoint (but in Ethernet or USB, not RS-232)?
Sorry to be a pest, but there are so many offerings from NI, I am concerned that I may overlook the best solution due non-familiarity with the product lines.

  • Best book for Web Developer learning flash

I've gotten far on my own just using online tutorials and dinking around in Flash on my own but my boss(es) are starting to ask for more complex stuff that I simply can't learn by just piecing together my Flash education.
I know there's many, many books out there that will teach you Flash but can anyone recommend any particular one(s) that are more concentrated in creating Web elements as opposed to game or animation development?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Folder path for developing custom UI in SAP OEE

    Hi,
recently I was developing in a scenario where I need to add a custom UI in OEE Dashboard. For that I followed the SAP How to guide for Custom UI. As per the guide I developed the view.js file controller.js file and then set them in activity configuration. It was stated in the how to doc that we have to put upto the name of the view page not the extension. Interestingly I found one thing here.
OEE always expects a folder path for that view file is such a way http://<host>:<port>/<Project name>/Web/WebContent/customActivity/<View page>.
Main problem to use that is, we can't add any specific folder in between any of the folder and even we can't change the name of the folder. I have tried with "customactivity", it didn't work.
I think this kind of limitation anyone can't expect while developing. I just post this here to explore that if I am doing anything wrong or that is a issue. Another point is in the how to doc it is not mentioned anywhere.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Suman

    Hi All,
    This is for everyone's update.
I have raised this point to the SAP, they have sent the confirmation that they have wrote their logic in such a way, so we have to mention the same path while developing any custom UI for SAP OEE. But as per my understanding it is kind of limitation they are giving.
So the standard path to keep the custom UI code for any SAP OEE Custom UI is :
    http://<host>:<port>/<Project name>/Web/WebContent/customActivity/<View page>

    Suman

  • Does JMF Support multilingual absolute paths for video playback?

    Hi everyone,
I hope I can find some answer here.
Does JMF supports multilingual paths for videos? E.g. I have a video located by the following URL:
    G:\video\Stürmische\video.mp4
When I try to open this video by JMF, I get the following Exception: Problem playing video+
    javax.media.NoPlayerException: Cannot find a Player for :file:/G:/video/Stürmische/video.mp4_
When I use the same video.mp4 file with path containing only simple latin letters, it's played normally.
Is there any problem with JMF regarding to multilingual paths?
    Many thanks,
    Armine

    868310 wrote:
I assume that it's a JMF cons. and IMHO, multilingual support for video paths/names should be added in it.Several things...
    1) JMF is designed to play both local files and RTP/RTSP file sources. As such, it uses URLs as resource locators. It makes perfect sense to make that design decision.
    2) URL encoding only allows alphanumeric characters and a handful of special characters. Considering the internet was invented by the United States army and our keyboards don't have those symbols, it makes perfect sense to make that design decision.
    3) Most importantly, JMF hasn't been updated since 2002 and development has been completely discontinued... so "multilingual support" won't ever be added to it.
And it isn't multilingual support you're asking for, it's support for non-ASCII characters.
It is my understanding that you can take a path like:
    G:\video\Stürmische\video.mp4
Run it through some encoding procedure, and come out with a usable URL like:
    G:%5Cvideo%5CSt%FCrmische%5Cvideo.mp4
Which I got by using the encoder on the following website:
    http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm
Coincidentally, had you done the research that I suggested you do, you might have learned that Java already has something built in to handle encoding non-compliant URLs for you.
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.5.0/docs/api/java/net/URLEncoder.html
So, I'd expect you could use the URLEncoder class to implement suggestion #3 from my previous post.
