Legacy Serial Number MIA - SOL?

I've been a PageMaker user since 1.0a (uh, that'd be 1987). Subsequent versions of PM came with a "lite" version of PhotoShop. PMx had PS2.0 LE. PM6 had PS 3.04 LE. PM6.5 had PS 5.0 LE. They were all I needed since I also had Corel Paint and Draw through the years.
I'm semi-retired now and mentally locked in to PageMaker after all these years. So, no, I don't need InDesign. What I do need is to replace my existing PS 5.0 LE because every time it fires up, it shuts down my sound card. And then I miss all the little jingles that keep my head from falling over on my desk asleep.
So, my obvious solution is to go back to PS3.04 LE on my PM6 disk. But of all the thirty or so serial numbers for all my software, that's the one that's missing. The box or sleeve after 17 years, yeah, forget that.
Any ideas on how to hack a legacy serial number?
I've got the s/numbers from PS 5.0 and PS 2.0 and my PM6, 6.5, and 7. And all my manuals and original disks. But after all these years, and almost a decade and a half of being out of warranty, I no longer have any receipts proving ownership. The only thing I have is a statement transferring ownership of the software to me by the chairman of the company I retired from. (They weren't re-hiring an ad man. Guess I broke the mold!) I was the only user through all the years and it was worthless to them after I was gone. Plus, they needed to make me happy.
Going through Adobe channels is going to get me nowhere because the software is too old and I can't produce a BestBuy receipt anyhow. I'm sure the programmers built in a secret install password ("CorelBites" or maybe "BytesDoItOneAtATime" or something).
This probably has no answer, but I thought I'd try.
If I were writing software, I'd certainly have built in a supersecret universal serial number.
Thanks.

Oh, not forward at all. Like my thinking, probably!!
Short answer:
Why spend the 100 bucks I don't need to? It's not a lot, but maybe a 100 means more to me than you.
Long answer:
1. I enjoy the challenge of making old software continue to be productive.
2. I don't use 20% of the features of my decade-old versions of PS, Word, Excel, PM, whatever. Why buy newer versions with even more great features I don't need?
3. I was, and am, a creative guy. There's always 2-3 ways to do things on computers. I don't need a super new single macro key set to do all kinds of things thus easing my (semi-retirement) workload.
4. I've already got the software and I've still got the hundred bucks.
5. The "cascade effect." Every time you do an upgrade that you don't absolutely have to, you open yourself up to a whole plethora of potential incompatibilities, archive file conversions, forced updates, OS updates, driver mis-matches.
6. I've got CorelPaint, a professional version and use that for some things, particularly anything CMYK. But for most things, a lite edition of PS is quicker for me.
I've been computing for thirty years, and on PCs for 25. I will upgrade given a very strong case for doing so. But last time I spent over a hundred bucks on an upgrade, it was for Office 2007 a couple of years ago. Waste of money. Only thing I got out of it was peer version compatibility with a client. After two weeks with the new interface, I degraded back to 97. I already had ten years invested in being able to work fast and efficiently in 97. Didn't need to go learnin' no new geography to continue productivity.
I do graphic design and copywriting and have even created Windows fonts that people are still licensing. I already have everything I need to continue doing that. I don't need to send files to a smart phone and archive in the cloud and check in with Facebook in the shower.
A lot of this new stuff out there is to just keep getting people to send in their hundred buckses!
Re-reading myself here, I think I may paraphrase as, "Me thinks me doth protest too much!"

  • Reinstall Photoshop 8, Serial Number MIA

I have had PhotoShop Elements 8 installed on my late 2009 MacBook for several years.  2 years ago I got 11, when I installed it, 8 didn't go away, but it didn't seem to cause any problems.  A few weeks ago I had a few things that were opening with 8 as the default.  Today I decided to uninstall.  The Uninstaller told me to deactivate it first, so I did, then I uninstalled it.  I then realized that it took away my Bridge program.  When I tried to reload it with my disk, it wants a serial number, which I don't have (I threw the box out long ago).  I tried to restore it from the Time Machine...it didn't work (I don't understand why) Chat support is no help...the program is too old.  Is there anyway I can find the serial number or is there a magic "master" serial number.  I really love Bridge but can't afford the programs that it is attached to now and am on a jetpack and can't afford data in the clouds...it has to be on my hard drive.

If you registered the software then your serial number should be in your 'My Adobe' A/c under 'My Products'.
If you didn't register it you could try starting a live Chat with Adobe, they may be able to identify your machine from your PSE11 activation and then possibly be able to identify from that machine ID the previously installed version details. http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=photoshop-elements&topic=serial-number-issues- or-activating-my-product - Click the 'still need help' button to see Chat.

  • Legacy Serial Number for Upgrade

I am reinstalling Acrobat XI, which was purchased as an upgrade from a previous Adobe product.  The reinstall is asking for the Serial Number from the previous product; but I no longer have that Serial Number.  What do I do now?

This is the forum for the free Reader. You'll probably want to continue in the Acrobat forum.
That being said, did you register the product or do you have receipts? If not to both answers, you may be out of luck.

  • How do I locate my aperture serial number?

After installing Aperture 3 following a hard drive failure I can't remember where the serial number is located on the packaging. Anyone know?

I know this doesn't help in your current situation, but it's a good practice. I keep a text file with all the serial numbers for all my software, and I type every one of them twice to make sure I have them typed in correctly.  I can pull up the serial number from Aperture 1.1 or Photoshop CS1. This is important because some vendors want your "legacy" serial number when you upgrade.  While I doubt that Adobe will ask for my CS1 serial at this point, I can show proof of ownership dating back to 2000 if there is ever a question.  Of course, this file has multiple backups.

  • My Creative Cloud still thinks I'm on a trial and won't accept my serial number.

I have been set up with a seat on a Creative Cloud team and downloaded/started to use all apps.  The second day in it's now saying that premiere has 29 days left of its trial period.  I have clicked through to license the software and put in my serial number but that is being rejected as invalid.  Can anyone help?  The web chat team said it was a technical issue and put me on to customer services call centre but I'm just sitting in a never-ending queue of calls.
    Thanks,
    David

I had the same problem. It was infuriating.  I found nothing of help from forums like this. (Instructions like Dave's from March 1 seemed to disregard my problem, telling me to do something I'd done long ago).  So I tried to contact tech support, only to learn that they don't work after hours, and not at all during the weekends!!  I couldn't believe it. I still can't.
So I contacted Adobe customer service -- which is available 24/7, because, after all, they are the sales people!
(In other words:  Adobe will take your money any time, day or night, and it will do so while promising access to the latest and greatest software service any time day or night. But Adobe won't spring for the funding to actually back that service, to ensure that people get what they pay for, to ensure that people get what they are promised by the sales force working for Adobe around the clock. )
Anyway.... after a long time chatting with customer service, they informed me that my payments were up to date, so they told me it was a technical problem, and I would just have to wait the 3 days (it was a holiday weekend) until tech support comes to work in the morning of the next business day.
When the time came (and they only work Pacific Time business hours), I called Adobe technical support, only to be told that it would be several hours before somebody would be available!!  (Of course, Adobe ensures that nobody ever has to wait for their sales support representative, aka- customer support representatives.)
If Adobe did not have such a monopoly, this would not occur.
And, if Adobe did not have such a monopoly, I would no longer be a customer. (In fact, I might not be a customer now, even given that fact, except that my work relies on some adobe code now.)
So I was feeling frustrated to such a degree that ike I cannot begin to describe it.
Finally, though, I went online again, and searched for help on my own. After all, I'd already discovered that this was not a new problem for Adobe -- it's just one they'd not bothered to fix, apparently.
And finally, I ran across instructions that were better written than Dave's March 1 reply.
Then I was able to unlock my software.
The thing that one must do, is to re-enter your Adobe ID, which is probably your email address, and your password.  It seems redundant and unnecessary. But it should work, based on my experience (I've had to do it numerous times now).
So, if anyone with this problem has read down this far, and hasn't yet solved the problem, just look for a link that says something about signing in with your Adobe ID.  I think it's a simple text link, and the link should appear on the popup-style window regarding your activation.  (I don't recall if the link appears before or after the rejection message, but if you cycle through those screens, you'll see it. After clicking the link, the appropriate form fields will appear.) Once you enter/re-enter your Adobe ID and password, your software should be available.
But -- and this is very important -- do NOT just go on about your business. Raise hell with Adobe about the problem, and their lack of tech support, etc. It's all really inexcusable. The solution might seem simple, but if you don't know the solution, then you're SOL.
And many people, esp people who are amateur photographers like my mother, might subscribe to Adobe's Cloud service and photo-editing software, and not look to forums like this for help. They'll only rely on Adobe tech support -- which is chronically underfunded by Adobe, and thus unavailable most of the time (considering hours closed, and wait times combined).
And if enough people complain to Adobe, maybe Adobe will fix this problem (along w/ other problems) and fund tech support enough to actually provide us with the tech support that we need for a 24/7 software subscription service.
And, if you complain, be sure to ask for a month's credit. You  might just get it.  And then Adobe mgt might listen to your complaints a bit more.

The serial number was included in the box ARD came in; the Apple Store will not have a record of it. If you've lost the serial number, you'll need to purchase a new copy of ARD, probably a good idea anyway since 2.2 won't run on any version of Mac OS X since, if memory serves, 10.4. It's a lot cheaper through the Mac App Store than it was back when you first purchased.

  • Lost my Version 8 serial Number

I purchased a Canon scanner from Amazon and along with it came Version 8 of Photoshop elements.  I installed it and all has been fine.  My laptop is acting up and I need to rebuild it, but "guess what", I can't find the serial number and never registered it with Adobe.  So, am I totally SOL?  Or does anyone have any information on how I can locate it in my registry or somewhere else.  I guess the worse case scenario is that I will have to contact Adobe and purchase another license number or just revert back to Photoshop version 7 (old but it works).  Thank you.

You can locate the serial number from your laptop by using a free software called: Belarc Advisor.  It is for Windows only but there is nothing in your message to suggest anything other than that you are using Windows OS.
Anyway, Belarc can be downloaded from here: <http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html>
    Good luck.

  • Link to download CS3 when I have a serial number?

Hello-  I purchased a student version of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Bridge from a bookstore in 2008.  I installed it on a computer and recently purchased a different computer that I would like to install these programs on.  I couldn't find the CD, but I still have the serial number.  When I spoke with Adobe customer support they told me to post on here and someone would send me a link for a download option.  Does someone have a link I could use?
    Thanks!

There is no official link. You can only download the legacy trial version from sites like prodesigntools.com and then activate it with your serial. In any case it's all on your own head. Installing CS3 on Win 7 is not supported, anyway, so be prepared to run into problems.

I have the serial number but cannot see how to download it.  please can you help?

    Hi Shaun,
Elements 6 is a legacy product and the download is not available on Adobe's website.
Also check the configuration of your new machine, Elements 6 might not be compatible with that.

I cannot open my photoshop. Its asking me for a serial number, which I already have. However, it will not accept my serial number. I've had this program for 5 years and this has never happened.

If your Creative Suite version is #3 through 6, you might try running the CS Cleaner Tools in preparation for a re-install.

If you have a legacy version, it may be that the activation servers for your product are no longer available.

  • Unable to validate my serial number for purchased version of premiere elements will not connect to internet even though my connection is ok

i have purchased an official copy of premier elements 13. i have my serial number etc but when i go validate my sign in throgh my internet connection nothing happens. its a nightmare !! I cannot even find out how to generate a rerquest code for offline valiodation. clicking on "generate response code " does nothing. I have jjust spent £79 on this product. will someone please help. ther is nothing wrong with my internet connection.

    Hi, A.T.R
Thank you so much for your common sense reply. I contacted Adobe via their online chat help facility. One of their tech guys resolved the issue by re-setting the Hosts file. Now I have seen this in the forums and it basically involves making a back-up copy of the Hosts file deleting certain entries and applying again.. Thankfully this worked for me. But I would urge Adobe to look into this matter as there are many novices I am sure will be extremely frustrated at what should be a straight forward approach when validating their software. Most people would know there internet was working ok and most people would be able to disable anti-virus software etc, but to continue getting a failure to validate a serial number online would in my opinion beggar belief !! for most technically minded folks out there. Most annoying.
When anyone purchases legacy software from Adobe, no one wants this kind of problem. The software is not cheap.
My purchase was Adobe Premiere Elements 13 and it is a great piece of software for video editing. I can however recommend it. It is very good for both novice and professionals
    Thank you.

  • How to put my serial number into trial version of CS4

I had to have someone partition my computer so I could reinstall snow leopard as a plotter machine plug in for illustrator is not compatible with Maverick.
I have CS4 on maverick but I do not have a hard copy as my external hard drive with the original download bit the dust years ago.
Of course there is no way that I can download a copy of my original purchase of premium design CS4 so after days of looking found a trial version.
This (after a few hiccups) is now up and running.
It does not unfortunately accept my valid and paid for serial number.
So I have have 30 days to sort this problem out.
    HELP PLEASE.
I really cannot afford to buy a hard copy of this again.

My purchase was Adobe Premiere Elements 13 and it is a great piece of software for video editing. I can however recommend it. It is very good for both novice and professionals
    Thank you.
