Lenovo refuses to send a recall battery

Hi,
Thinkpad Z61p
In my company we always reinstall Lenovo's with a custom network unattended XP immediately after delivery.
One user had problems with the battery so I supplied another newer laptop and a good battery (because the laptop is already past his life's expectancy corporate wise).
Because the old laptop was no longer needed I decided to install a standard XP as a spare (we use something that is unable to run on our custom installs) but I was unable to, because that
type of laptop seems to only want a specific XP cd, dunno maybe a SP1 or with specific display drivers (Heavy gfx).
So I installed Ubuntu, first thing Ubuntu says after boot "This battery was recalled by Lenovo" with a link. Smarter OS than Windows.
I goto the link and I find out that the battery is faulty by checking the P/N but the website says you need to install software to check and order a new battery ie an .exe ... so I ran Wine and tried installing, everything installs but it won't run.
So I call Lenovo ... "Sorry, because you installed Ubuntu we cannot support you, you need to run the software".
I explain why, how etc. etc.
I have the battery, a recall means they will get the faulty battery and they can physically see the serial number that is on it, and we are registered at Lenovo.
So I asked what they would do if batteries on a pre-installed Ubuntu Lenovo Thinkpad back in the day would have to be recalled, would they supply an Ubuntu program to check and apply for a replacement battery ... and what would happen if someone installed XP on an originally Lenovo Ubuntu system ... no response, then "we have never had Ubuntu", nice avoiding ...
So in fact I would have to do a reinstall with our custom XP which takes half a day just to install a package that will tell them what I told them ... the P/N and then afterwards I would AGAIN have to install Ubuntu because the custom install cannot be used outside of our company without encryption etc etc etc
Instead of simply replacing the battery, they expect me to spend half a day on reinstalling everything AND they have no problem with letting somebody work with a possibly dangerous battery (doesn't explain why they were recalled though).
Nice going Lenovo, that's what ye me call it ... service?
Enough ranting ...
So what are my options?
Was thinking of shrinking Ubuntu partition, put a small partition in for XP, install the software and remain afterwards with a dualboot.
Running XP from a usb stick would be possible?
Or are there any live cd's which I can use and simply do a rebuild with the extra software and run from CD?

Shopping for a new washing machine can be pretty overwhelming given all the factors you have to take into consideration. After considering your budget, preferred features, brand, and then size, it can be quite the victory once you decide on which one you like!
It is regrettable to hear that your first order had to be canceled as it wasn’t actually ready. It is regrettable you would have received such a notification, as that email should only be triggered when the order is moved to a ready for pickup status. I’m glad to hear that the store was able to replace the order for a bit less due to your troubles. Using the email address you registered with the forum, I was able to locate your orders, and I see that your Amana washing machine should be ready for pickup.
Regarding the charges you state haven’t been refunded, an authorization is typically placed for the full amount at the time of placing an order online. After reviewing your order, it doesn’t appear you were charged, but that you may still be seeing the authorization on your end. Typically when an order is canceled, such an authorization would be reversed or it would expire. Whether it expires or is reversed, it may take 3-5 business days depending on your financial institution for this to be reflected on your end.
With that said, you should be seeing the funds available to you by the end of the week, and I apologize for any inconvenience or hassle that this news may cause you, especially if you were advised the funds would be available sooner.     I am having a problem with my email. Whenever I try to send a email with a picture attached it refuses to send. Regular email still works as does emails with files(.exl,.pdf,.doc,) attached. I also doesn't appear to be email provider specific since I have multiple email types and It affects all of them.  I have tried removing my emails and reentering the information which doesn't appear to help, also I am able to transfer the file from the outbox to my inbox and send it from my a different device (in this case my iPhone).
    If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it.

    A couple of things that you could try are :
    closing the Mail app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

    I suspect that you are using the Forwarding option within Workgroup Manager, and this works outside of the postfix alias scheme. I think you should just set those users you are forwarding to, to normal mail users, and put their forwarding rules ALSO in the alias file, so you would have:
    MAILER-DAEMON: postmaster
    postmaster: alex,yong
    alex: [email protected]
    That should do it. You really have to commit to either using Workgroup Manager or Postfix in their entirety. They don't really work too nicely in conjunction with each other.

    Hello - My mail account is set up with a Mac address and a yahoo address. When I attempt to send Photo Booth videos via my Mail account a pop up screen with
    "Cannot send message using the server plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:[email protected] The server "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" cannot be contacted on the default ports.

    It used to send these vids fairly easily (slow but it did it). Now even though all connections are solid it is still refusing to send the vids. They are brief gif files so I'm not sure of all the options.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a quick fix? Thank you for your help.

    Well I'm having the same problem after also trying to send an email with photos as attachments.
    The email keeps getting put into my draft mailbox "On My Mac". I've tried removing the attachments and then deleting the email,I've tried deleting the mailbox, I've been to the server and deleting the email I found there, but as you say, everytime, it comes back from the dead. I've gone to my mail preferences and changed the port and nothing seems to work. What is strange, is that everytime I click on the OK button on the error message, it starts again and puts another copy of the message into the draft mailbox, so I end up with multiple copies of the same email, complete with attachments.
    I've tried turning airport off while I do this, and then turning it back on after deleting, but it hasn't helped.
    I'm baffled as to what to try next.

  • Suit refuses to send SMS to a "invalid recipient"

    Sometimes the PC Suit for my Nokia 95 *MB refuses to send text messages to some numbers, for example a number in Israel. The Eerror message says "Recipient (number" is not valid. Can not send message." Who knows what is going on??? The number IS VALID! I called it and it works.

    A workaround:
    You can export the contacts as a .csv file and manually copy->replace the invalid character->insert a column as the valid numbers. Then you can import the .csv file into pc suite. When sending SMS, you can choose the "valid" number.
    Still quite a lot numbers, but with a decent text editor, it's much easier than editing contacts one by one.

  • Droid Razr Maxx HD is refusing to send text messages

    I have had my phone for about a year now, and it has had a few glitches here and there being Android. But recently, it has just been refusing to send text messages. It just sits there and spins for hours until I delete the message, and never sends. I have tried turning off every data setting (Putting it on airplane mode, turning GPS off, turning data off) and restarting the phone several times and it has not helped. Any ideas?

    There was an update recently.  That could be why you're having problems. 
    Go to your Play store and make sure your apps are all up to date. Even apps installed that you don't use. Either uninstall it or update it.
    Make sure mobile data is on and you don't have the phone set to block usage at a certain point.  Droids can do that. Check your wifi connection as well. 
    Remove your SIM card for 5 minutes. Restart your phone. Replace the SIM card.  To refresh your phone on the network.
    Did you recently download an app that requested access to read/write to your SMS?
    Go to App Manager. Check for running apps. Make sure only your default text Messaging app is running.  Kit Kat only allows for one app to have permissions to write to sms. If multiple apps that want access are running you will not be able to send sms.   Check for ALL text messaging apps on your phone.  Look for any app that wants permission to read/ write  your text messages and turn them off.  All except the one app you use.

  • Returning recalled battery

    I've just had a frustrating half an hour on the phone to UPS and then to Apple...
    I live in the UK and need to return my recalled battery to the Netherlands. According to UPS, Apple have enclosed the wrong type of shipping address label (a UPS Express Saver prepaid label) and what I need is a UPS Standard Service label...UPS won't collect my recalled battery unless I have the "correct" label.
    So I rang Apple and got a pleasant but puzzled person to talk to who had not heard of this before......to cut a long story short he told me I do not need to return my battery to Apple.
    I told him that contradicts what is enclosed with my new battery ie: that I will be asked to pay the cost of a new battery unless I return my recalled one within 10 days. He told me not to worry about that....so I've asked him for that in writing...nothing has popped into my inbox yet (approx 7 hours later), so we'll see.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Do I HAVE to return my recalled battery?
    Will I be charged if I don't?
    How do I dispose safely of these types of
    batteries?

    Not sure about the UK, but Apple is open on the weekends here in the US. Keep in mind that these batteries fall into a special category and it’s possible that you’re receiving the “party line” answer when you talk with Apple about returns. It’s true, they want to validate most returned components so that they aren’t simply replacing things based on your word. The defective battery issue was set in stone, based on known parameters, so there isn’t anything to validate. Also, I still have my old battery after receiving my replacement over a month ago and I haven't received any notice or charge to return it. I was never asked to provide a billing method when I filed my claim. Many owners are keeping their batteries for good measure. In fact, my old or so-called “defective” battery works better than the new replacement. I’m using my old battery right now because the new battery causes my Mac run hot - go figure.

  • Previous Recall battery falls in rage but show "invalid"

    Did any of you getting the invalid even though your battery falls in range participate in the previous recall? Here I was thinking all day that the battery I got a few months back would not fall in range, but it does. Apples page where you enter the SN of laptop and battery says batery SN is invalid.

    I was having a problem where my laptop was recognised but the battery was not, even though it was in scope according to the numbers.
    I phone Apple UK and after getting over the initial stumbling block of the guy not knowing what I was talking about. He arranged to send me out a replacement battery. He took my credit card details and said if I don't send the old one back within 10 days of receiving the new battery I would be charged. he said the battery should be with me within 7 days. The call took about 30 minutes while I was holding on the line. The number for U.K. is 0870 8760753.

  • Lenovo Z510 Random SHUT DOWN ON BATTERY

    I am using Lenovo Z510( Intel i5 ,4gb Ram , 1TB HDD with 8gb SSHD , Windows 8.1, 1gb graphic) from last 7 months , but from last two weeks it has been randomly shutting down without warning on battery. Battery indicator always showing 99% or 100%, but after RANDOM shut down when i connect it to power source battery indicator shows 0% . Sometimes it also shows " 0% (Plugged In , Not Charging )" status.
    please suggest me solutions.

  • Lenovo s10e won't start on battery power alone

    Hi,
    I have the following problem with my Lenovo s10e netbook:
    On battery power, press the power button, I see a flash on the screen, the blue power led turns on, then off after a few seconds, I can hear a sound from inside the device but it does not turn on.
    If I connect the power adapter with the battery connected the device starts up with no problem.
    If the battery is not connected and I only use the power adapter I have no problem starting the device.
    I tried using a different battery and still have the same issue. 
    Do you have any idea what is causing this?

    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    The unit looks like it's not getting enough power on the battery. If you're using the original 6 cell, 4400 mAh. 11.1 V battery, there's most likely a problem on the charging mechanism at the back part of the unit. 
    Have you already contacted lenovo to report the issue? (they'll most likely ask you to send the unit in for diagnosis)

  • Lenovo G510 won't start when battery is on and it's fully charged

    Hi there. I have my Lenovo g510 i5 notebook for 10 months, and my battery is wrong. I haven't used it on battery too much, but when I used it, I empty all of it and then charged it when it's turned down. Couple of days ago, the battery was empty I put it to charge, the orange light appears that it's charging, and day after when I put the battery on the notebook won't start, but with the battery and adapter start normally and show that the battery is 100% (fully charged). Why I can't use it on battery? Please help me.

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
     As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not starting with battery in your G510 laptop.
    Please remove the battery and connect only adapter and check for the issue, also try to perform a power drain by removing all the external devices connected to the devices and shutdown the system, now remove battery and adapter, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, connect battery and adapter and check for the issue.
    If still the issue persist, perform battery gauge reset, go to power manager select advance mode and select battery tab and click on battery maintenance under this option click perform under battery gauge option. Please perform and reply with results.

  • Connection Refused when sending adapter test message XI 2.0

    I have received a "java.net.ConnectException: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation." when sending a "Test Client Sending out a Plain Single-Part MIME Message".  I have validated the host name and am not sure where to validate the Port and Url it is sending to. Defaults to Port/Url "8230/JMS"  Where do I look to validate this is correct?

  • My Powerbook G4 refuses to recognise it's battery.............

    My powerbook refuses to recognise that it has a battery installed.
    Naturally this happened just weeks after the extended warranty ran out!
    The battery icon on the top right side of the toolbar has a cross in it and yes, I have checked it with another battery, infact I bought a new one, I have taken the powerbook to a Mac official repair shop, who checked everything and said I needed a new logic board!
    This is not an economic option on an older machine, and anyway it was replaced once under warranty already, as was the keyboard and the screen, so much for reliability.
    It is a real bore to have to operate the powerbook connected to the electricity mains supply and everything else works perfectly.
    Is there anything anyone can suggest to persuade my Mac to work as it should?

  • How is the recalled battery going?

    Hey guys... got a question to those of You who had Your battery recalled.
    How is it going? Is the battery capacity better? I mean, can You work longer without the AC cord plugged? Mine with Safari, MSN and iChat camera (to stop the whine) ethernet cord and optical USB mouse, matrix about half-bright and it handles 2hours 10 minutes... got the newest frimware I bet... which is the newest? Maybe the battery exchange fixes another issues, like heat etc? There is no MLB battery exchange in Poland, so my logic baord is still as it was. Heat and whine still present. Does the new battery help any of these? And how about the battery life?
    I'd be gratefull for answers.

    Mine definitely seems cooler, though I haven't actually checked the temps for specific temperature differences (will do that when I get home), but I had it sitting on my lap for about an hour the other night and suddenly realized the tops of my thighs weren't cooking yet.
    Also, I'm getting at least an extra 20-30 minutes life out of mine, and if I shut the lid and then open it up a couple hours later my compute comes right back on as opposed to before when I would have to power it back on, because the computer had shut itself off (regardless of how much charge the battery had).
    So, all in all, I can say def improvements with the new batteries.

    i got my replacement battery, but where do i send the old one? i'm in california. do i go to UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, etc? i went to USPS and they said they don't recognize the label.

    I got my replacement battery about a week back, and i had read most of the threads concerning return of old batteries etc. and i decided to return mine.
    However upon closer inspection no where in the instructions does it say how i go about returning it (from the uk) all that was indicated that i could call from the US or Canada (toll free) to arrange a collection.
    And i am NOT ringing them to find out how to return it...
    I can't wait for the charge to appear! (though i have no idea how they are going to do this as they have none of my credit card details hehe
