Lib32-libgl conflict with pacman -Su command

When I attempted sudo pacman -Su I get...
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: google-earth: requires lib32-libgl
:: steam: requires lib32-libgl
How should I deal with this conflict? Thanks.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: steam: requires lib32-libgl
I read up an old (and very long) thread about the same issue but nothing i found in there solved it for me. Usually the problem was that something unnecessary (like nouveau or some video drivers from the xorg package group) was installed.
This does not seem to be the case for me.
# pacman -S lib32-libgl
:: lib32-nvidia-libgl and lib32-nvidia-utils are in conflict
and as i found in the other thread
# pacman -Qs dri
local/lib32-nvidia-utils 313.26-1
NVIDIA drivers utilities and libraries. (32-bit)
local/libirman 0.4.5-3
Irman driver lcd library
local/libraw1394 2.1.0-1
Provides an API to the Linux IEEE1394 (FireWire) driver
local/nvidia 313.26-2
NVIDIA drivers for linux.
local/nvidia-utils 313.26-1
NVIDIA drivers utilities and libraries.
local/os-prober 1.57-3
Utility to detect other OSes on a set of drives
local/xf86-input-evdev 2.8.0-1 (xorg-drivers xorg)
X.org evdev input driver
I don't see anything i could uninstall to fix this issue.
I thought for a moment that adding "IgnorePkg   = lib32-libgl"
to pacman.conf would do something but it didn't help (someone in the other thread talked about ignoring libgl)
What can i do?

  • Bash-completion upgrade conflicts with pacman

pacman warned me that /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/makepkg would be overwritten.
pacman -Oo said then that it's part of bash-completion 1.99-1, but there's already bash-completion 1.99-2 that hasn't any more included that file cause now as it seems, the file move into the new pacman package.
    https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … 50dbc12ba0
So following process to not corrupt anything:
    1) Move the file out of the way:
    # mv /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/makepkg /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/makepkg.bak
    2) Upgrade pacman
    # pacman -S pacman
    3) Upgrade bash-completion (this step will remove the file)
    # pacman -S bash-completion
    4) Reinstall pacman again, to not loose the file.
    # pacman -S pacman
    5) Now, you can remove the backup.
    # rm -f /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/makepkg.bak

Is there a way to get Pacman to recommend a package name like in ubuntu, for example:

Could Pacman recommend the package net-tools?

The pkgtools package will do this for you.
See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pkgtools for instructions on how to set it up.

I just saw the answer in the News.  Upgrade screen first.  Then upgrade ncurses.  I will give that a try.

  • Two GPUs, two purposes - libgl and nvidia-utils conflict - lib32-libgl

    Hi all!
After realizing there is no way (by now) to perform a vgs switch (between integrated Intel and discrete Nvidia GPUs) using nvidia propertary driver (as I read, the only one supporting gpgpu with cuda/openCL), I wondered if there is a way of letting them co-exist: graphics on the integrated one and applications on the nvidia. After all, I might not need to be using the discrete card for the video if I want to use it for other purposes.
Obeviously, the tho drivers conficlt (nvidia-utils conflicts with libgl), but in this post a workaround is suggested.
Thing is, also lib32-nvidia-utils and lib32-libgl (Skype depends on it) conflict, so I thought I could just extend the suggestion, but I couldn't find lib32-libgl's pkgbuild. Where can I find it? If it doesn't exist at all, is there a way I can workaround?
By the way, why aren't libgl and lib32-libgl on abs? In what way are they different from the others?
There is libgl-git in AUR, but I couldn't find the 32-bit version.
Do you think I have a chanche it'll work?
    Thanks a lot

So you think it'll never work
Actually, it is working now. It's a recent development posted in the mailing lists, but the solution came up yesterday and tests have been positive so far. It's confirmed to work in at least two Optimus machines.
Progress is being posted in the mailing lists, but the author, Martin Juhl, is also blogging it. I'll just sum up what the solution: It resorts to turbojpeg  VirtualGL and two xorgs. The intel card does everything, and apps meant to use the nvidia are specifically run with vglrun.
Unfortunately, the solution removes hardware acceleration in the intel card (immediately noticeable by the absence of desktop effects). In arch that translates the libgl / nvidia-utils conflict.
    intel-dri demands libgl.
    xf86-video-intel demands intel-dri.
In order to install nvidia + nvidia-utils in Arch, without removing intel-dri and xf86-video-intel, you have to:
    # pacman -Sd nvidia nvidia-utils
This will still remove libgl, though.
Now THAT is just cool... would make optimus laptops so much more useful if/when it works reasonably well. Sounds like quite a bit of hackery involved though.

  • Shift command E conflict with LR

Is anyone having this problem.  To flatten layers I am using Shift Command E.  I have been using this for years but now for some reason it is conflicting with LR in that the LR panel comes up when using this command in CC?!?  This keyboard is also listened in LR as an export function...funnily enough when using it in LR nothing happens.
I can't seem to use this now in CC and can't figure a way to disconnect it in LR

  • Pacman -S kde - xorg conflicts with xfree86

i just installed arch on the computer of my brother ... and run into a funny situation i never experienced before ... maybe it0s a repeat and you already know about it
    1) install arch-0.7-base
    2) boot
    3) -Suy
    4) pacman -S kde

without background information, a newbie would be confused by this error.
    workaround:
    1) pacman -S xorg
    2) pacman -S kde

Yea, i've been confused about this some month ago .
Anyway, just can guess that it's caused since both, xorg and xfree are providing x-server, and there is no "standard" which arch uses for x-server? Does pacman still need a feature like this?

Thanks Allan, does that mean if I were so inclined, it would be safe to remove rubygems, then update ruby?
The reason I don't think I should update ruby is because I have a lot of rails apps on this server, and there is bound to be more than a couple which can't cope with the update to ruby 1.9 (it's a pretty major upgrade).
I'll check out the pacman.conf thanks!

Well, few days ago i noticed that i didn't uncomment multilib line from /etc/pacman.conf file. After i uncommented it and ran "sudo pacman -Syu" that happened.
I had some problems with updating arch and glibc (not lib32-glibc) few months ago (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=154391) but i solved it. Maybe that is somehow related to my actual problem. I really don't know.
So i can type that command without fear for my system? Nice .

  • [SOLVED]Installing steam in optimus and lib32-libgl dependency problem

    Hello everyone!
I have a problem concerning the installation of steam under arch_64 on a laptop with Optimus. I have succesfully installed Bumblebee with Nvidia 319.17-2, everything works fine. I have also installed lib32-nvidia-utils which is version 319.17-1. Now I try to install steam:
    [root@VOSTRO onur]# pacman -S steam
    resolving dependencies...
:: There are 3 providers available for lib32-libgl:
    :: Repository multilib
    1) lib32-mesa-libgl 2) lib32-nvidia-304xx-utils 3) lib32-nvidia-libgl
    Enter a number (default=1):
The problem arises at this point:
    1) I am using nvidia, so I can't use mesa.
    2) I have installed driver 319.17 with the corresponding util package, so not this one.
    3) I guess this is the answer. But since I am using bumblebee, I checked the wiki page (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee)  and under section 2.1 there is a note:
Note: Do not install lib32-nvidia-libgl! Bumblebee will find the correct lib32 nvidia libs without it.
This leaves me confused. What am I supposed to do at this point? Is it a problem on Bumblebee's part? Or since lib-32-nvidia-304xx-utils is legacy now, shouldn't the dependency be updated to include the latest nvidia-utils package 319.17-1? Or am I missing something?
Any kind of insight will be deeply appreciated.
NOTE: Just before submitting this post, I learned that there was Optimus support in the beta release of this driver, but in the release notes of the released version contains nothing about Optimus
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-disp … river.html
so I guess installing Bumblebee was not a mistake?

I have pretty much the same problem.
I went for lib32-mesa-libgl and uninstalled lib32-nvidia-libgl.  Problem was that Steam did not find libgl.so so i had to install lib32-intel-dri too.
Now steam works but i cannot use the nvidia GPU..... if i set launch options to "primusrun %command%" then dota2 does not launch.
    optirun glxgears works.
    primusrun glxgears works.
    Even all CUDA examples work.
    what could be the problem?

  • Root partition suddenly full while updating packages with Pacman

    Hello
I'm not sure if this is a problem with Pacman, but my root partition seems to have become completely full while updating my system using pacman -Syu. Before updating anything, there seems to have been an update to a new version of Pacman (3.3.1-1) that needed to be installed before updating packages.
In the middle of the updates, I got this error:
error: error writing to file '/var/cache/pacman/pkg/openoffice-base-3.1.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz': No space left on device
Also, I don't know if this is related, but I got a lot of 'not found' errors after that.
    The entire output from everything:

Also, I haven't restarted my system yet. Should I try and see what happens?
    Thanks!

This happened to me recently. I could not restart my laptop properly due to lack of space on my root partition.
The error during boot was along the lines of:-
Starting D-BUS system messagebus   - Failed
Failed to start message bus: Failed to close "var/run/dbus.pid": No space left on drive
    Hardware Abstraction Layer - Failed
everything else during the boot was as normal till I started to type in my username - but couldn't because the keyboard was inactive.
I used a Wolvix live CD to investigate and found a QT4 file in the packman cache which was 6.9GB in size (compared to the normal 27mb size). Once that was deleted and the drive/partition error checked everything was back to normal. So before you reboot I would definitely recommend clearing any oversize file out of your packman cache, or just clearing the whole cache.

I have this errors......my kernel version is the 2.6.21-ARCH, maybe is this the reason? How can I upgrade the kernel?
    thx

check which package owns the files with 'pacman -Qo $pathtofile'
If it is now owned by a package you can safely force the package to install with 'pacman -Sf kernel26'
If the files are owned by a package then there they are conflicting and the path to follow will be different for each situation.
If you are not sure what to do post here which package (if any) owns the files.
