Line dropping repeatably since engineer visit

I have had broadband for the last few months now with no problems at all. A few weeks ago my landline started to crackle with noise on the line and so an engineer came around to check. He could see a problem going into the house from the box outside and opened the box inside my room to test it, but when he did the problem fixed itself. He tested it outside again and the problem was gone, and the noise on the phone did in fact dissapear. He said it was probrably a wire inside the box touching something else and was dislodged upon opening it. Then about 15 mins after he left I started having problems with my broadband. It now drops connection for between a few seconds to a minute at a time on and off for a short while then it goes fine again. Sometimes for an hour, sometimes for a day. But when it starts its on, off, on, off etc. As I mentioned there was no problem until the engineer came around.

I cant seem to get longer than 60 mins maximum atm without the connection dropping and resetting the information, sometimes its a few mins then the data resets. So here is the longest one I could get before it reset AGAIN shortly after.

  • Problem with underground cable - engineer visit re...

    I reported a fault on my line last week, and an Openreach engineer turned up on Friday and confirmed that the fault was in an undergound cable on public land, and not within the boundary of my property. There are two nearby BT access covers in the public footpath outside - apparently the line is ok from the house to the nearest box, and the fault is between that box and the next one.
    According to the Openreach engineer, the next step would be for them to come out and trace the exact location of the fault (which wouldn't require access to my property), then the footpath would be dug up so that the cable could be renewed or repaired.
    It appears that BT Retail has a different viewpoint to that of Openreach, as the fault summary on bt.com now says that an engineer visit is required. However, until the cable is repaired I haven't a clue what this is supposed to achieve that the first one didn't.
    Is this a case of Openreach and BT Retail struggling to communicate properly with each other, or is there actually some point to having another engineer visit that I may have missed? Before I arrange to take yet time off work to wait for an engineer, I'd like to make sure that it's really necessary.

    The plot thickens...
    Wife phoned to try to find out more, and during a rather frustrating phone call she was informed that the fault outside was fixed on Sunday morning, and they now want an engineer to come and check that it works up to the house. Plus the usual threat of a £129 charge. So we have an engineer booked to visit on Friday morning.
    I do have a number of problems with the statements made by the individual that my wife spoke to:
    1. An Openreach engineer has already checked that the line is ok from the master socket to the BT "hole in the ground" located 12 metres away, on public land and not within the property boundary. He estimated that the fault in the cable was 15 metres away, between the nearest access point and the next one (which is about 16 metres away).
    2. I'd have thought that we'd have noticed someone digging up the tarmac on a Sunday morning, in view of the front window, but we didn't. Neither did we notice them filling in the hole afterwards. Perhaps Openreach employ silent (and invisible) contractors to dig up the roads at weekends.
    3. More importantly, the line is a dead as ever, and dialling it from a different line or a mobile always gets an engaged tone - this hasn't changed since the fault was reported to BT.
    I'd certainly not be very happy with a £129 charge, particularly as if the problem is within our boundary the engineer that came last week should have found it. Hopefully Friday won't be a total waste of time, for me or for the Openreach engineer, but not holding out much hope at the moment as nothing seems to have changed since the first visit.
    On the plus side, it's been quieter in the evenings as the telespammers haven't been able to get through for the past week or so!

  • DSL line drop problems

    I've had BT Broadband for about 2yrs with no problems,  then from the end of January I've had repeated line drops.
    The HH recovers sometimes straight away, sometimes after 2 to 5 drops in quick succession.  each time the line speed is good but the connection only lasts a day or so.
    I logged a fault and had a engineer check the line - no fault found
    I logged another fault and got the HH3 swapped for a HH4
    I'm connected the HH to the test socket
    I've replaced the filter
    I've run it with no phone
    And still after 6 weeks the same problem is there.  My conclusion is that it's somewhere upstream in the exchange as Ican't see what else I can do.
    Any suggestions appreciated

  • Requiring advice after an engineer visit.

    OK Guys bear with me.
    After several weeks of disconnection and speed issues I finally bit the bullet last week and reported the fault to BT on 151.
    The symptoms I were getting were; random losses of sync on my home hub, making or receiving phone calls caused the hub to lose sync aqnd when it finally did re-sync the line speeds varied by 2-3 meg.
    I can hear the sound of data when making phone calls with the hub plugged in so I have replaced the microfilters with several of various types ie NTE ADSL faceplates & plug-in filters directly into the test socket behind the faceplate. Also I have swapped out the Home Hub with a BT Voyager 2091 that I had previously, all with exactly the same results.
    So in total I have systematically replaced all of my internal equipment prior to reporting a fault. There are no extension lines, the phone line is a clean new line from outside re-wired from a previous fault from a few years ago (getting that repaired was a tale of woe in itself which is leading me to getting some advice to getting a quicker resolution to this problem), microfilter in the master socket which goes straight to the home hub and to a cordless phone, no other equipment attached.
    Pulling out the Homehub whilst listening to quiet line test on 17070 significantly improves the line quality but there is still the odd crackle audible if you listen for long enough.
    Anyways, having to tried to eliminate all probable causes and tired of being mithered by my son moaning about his gaming sessions constantly being interrupted I decided to start the ball rolling and reporting the fault.
    After getting though to the broadband section of bt faults, I explained what was happening and what I had done and the woman on the other end of the phone told me she would download the logs from my homehub to analyze what was wrong. After several minutes of line tests etc etc, she told me that she would send me a new microfilter as that was the problem, despite the fact that I had already replaced the microfilter twice.
    As expected, the microfilter never arrived so instead of going back in circles with the phone calls, I used the online fault reporting system on the site which resulted in me being able to book a visit from an engineer which I booked for this morning.
    The openreach engineer arrived this morning and I explained the symptoms etc and a short potted history (he remembered me from my previous fault ) He connected his equipment, did a quiet line test for a minute or two with no noticable noise and then attached his equipment to test the line back to the exchange, the upshot of which reported no fault. So after a 20 minute visit I'm still left in the same position as before.
    Can anyone suggest as to what steps I should take next?
    Below is a record of my stats from my HomeHub from today since the engineer left. I have kept the logs from the last week should anyone with the knowledge wish to see them.

  • Slow broadband and line dropping

    Please help! I have now had several bt engineers at my house checking my line issues all to a man say I have no real issues and should be able to obtain at least 6mb, on leaving they manage to get me to about 3 - 4 mb, and all is good, then over the course of the following week, it always drops back to the normal 1.2mb complete with line dropping, now surly this is being wound back at source my question is why?

    Hi John46
    Here are my settings I hope this helps I did the quiet line test and all seems fine on that front,
    I have home hub 3 and my line speed was 0.9 Kbps @ download,
    Basically I'm back to where I started pre engineer visit (very annoying) as this is the third time,

  • Line Drop Fiasco, Canceled Appointments, No End In Sight

    To Whom it May Concern: I want to thank you, Comcast Xfinity for teaching me a lot over the past 2 weeks. Let me explain.My husband, 2 year-old son, and I moved on May 27 – May 31. We were previous Comcast customers and have always been incredibly happy with the interface of the Comcast X1 platform. It seemed like a no-brainer that we would keep it at the new home, just about 4 miles down the road. On May 2, using your “Movers Edge” program I put in a request to disconnect service on May 30 and begin service at the new house on May 30. I was pleased at how easy of a process this was.May 30 comes and a person shows up… on time. However, the appointment was incredibly short. Immediately the technician asks if Comcast has already been out. We need a line drop and someone will call me. On June 1, I returned my old equipment to a Comcast Service Center. I ask the staff to check on my request. They tell me that it still has the original request open and that someone will call me. On June 3, I finally call Comcast the check on the status. I am told that the line drop will occur on Tuesday, June 9 between 1-5pm. I chatted with an agent on June 4. This agent tells me that everything will happen at the same time. They will fix my line in my yard and I will also get all of my boxes and modem. I am elated with this news! I called again on June 5 to confirm. I am told that no, they cannot do the line drop and installation in one day. However, they are doing a special request so that I can get it all in one day. I am frustrated that the story has changed, but happy at how helpful the agent was. I call again to confirm on Monday. I am once again told that the appointments cannot occur on the same date. The next installation date in Thursday, June 18. I am furious. I am thinking for a week that the line drop and installation will occur at the same time. I ask them to get me an earlier date. I am not waiting till the 18th. I am given an appointment on Friday, June 12 from 1-4pm. Tuesday June 9th! I am supposed to get the line drop. An end is in sight. I call at 1pm as I am leaving work to check on the line drop. The agent tells me that they see the special request, however, she gets an error when she tries to see more. The agent tells me to call back in a couple of hours. I call back at 3pm. The agent tells me that she is also getting an error. She tells me that she’s putting in a request and someone will call me back in the next 30 minutes. I give it an hour. No phone call. I call back. The agent now tells me that this kind of request requires 24 hours for someone to return the call. I still get no response regarding why the line drop was not complete. 24 hours goes by. No phone call from anyone at Comcast. On Wednesday, June 10, in the morning, I chat with someone via the web services and I am told that they’re waiting for a permit. I had to beg for this information. Initially they said that it was scheduled but provided no additional information. I demanded that they tell me more. They tell me that the installation should still take place on June 12. I call again Wednesday afternoon. I am told that the line drop requests actually have a 10-day window. Information I was never told until now. I ask about my installation on Friday, June 12. They tell me this will not happen. I am transferred to billing, and sales, and technical support. None of these sound like departments that can assist me. When are they going to do the line drop? When am I going to get service? Should I give up and go to FIOS, it’s more than a week later. I am finally given new dates. Line drop on Monday, June 15 and installation on Thursday, June 18th. With my new information that line drops have a 10-day window, and that they need a permit, I ask how likely this appointment will still occur. No one is able to give me an answer. And with this 10-day window will the line drop really occur on June 25? More than a month after my initial appointment? No one is able to give me an answer. I finally ask for someone in customer service. If I am going to stick with Comcast, how are they going to compensate me for all the hours I have been on the phone, being told different stories? How are they going to compensate me for missed appointments? How are they going to compensate me for going at least 3 weeks without phone/internet/cable? I am told there is nothing they can do. My bill will not be lowered. I already signed up for the multi-room DVR and all the premium channels. They cannot give them to me for free or lower price because I “already have them”. I ask them to lower the plan I signed up for and then compensate me. I and then told that it doesn’t work that way. So after (a minimum) of 3 weeks, I may finally get service but there’s no way to be compensated for all my troubles? Why am I still talking to these folks? Like most people in the 20 something age-range, I google my problems. I come across people that suggest complaining to the county and the FCC. I filed complaints with both. Since this line drop hasn’t occurred, there’s a problem with the infrastructure. The FCC responds and tells me my complaint has been forwarded on. There is a 30-day window for Comcast to respond. So, what have I learned?I have much more patience than I thought I would in this situation. For a week I have been calling Comcast or chatting with Comcast. Some days I was reaching out up to 3 times a day.I trusted Comcast much more than I should have. Every time I talked to someone the story changed. I was given different information, sometimes more information. But it was constantly changing. During the process I was so wrapped up, I didn’t think twice.On two occasions, I was promised that someone would call me back within 24 hours. I received no phone calls, no messages. Not sure what a promise means to Comcast.I learned that you can complain to your county and FCC regarding the cable infrastructure. I had no idea that this was possible. Even if nothing comes of it, it felt good to let important people know that I am struggling.There is no need to get the best package. When you get the package there is no way to compensate you for all your energy, time, and effort lost. There was no way to send me a gift card, give me free DVR or free premium channels. Apparently I already had them even without having service yet.Comcast can make you feel crazy. In addition to believing that everyone is telling me the truth. Why have appointments if no one will show? Why have appointments when it’s really a 10-day window? I ended up feeling like it was a job to make sure Comcast was working on my case. I also felt like I couldn’t just let it go. Just go to FIOS. They’re able to give you service. Just let it go.So that is where I am now. I just have to let it go. There is no need to BEG Comcast to let me be a customer. They have no problems cancelling appointments without notifying me. They have no problem giving me the run around and telling me a different story and excuse every time I call. They have no problem stringing me along for days on end making me think that I’ll get service in the next 3-days, 5-days, etc. They have no problem telling me how “sorry they are” and how they “understand my frustration” but then there is no way to fix it and no end in sight. Not expecting a response. Just be leary if they Comcast tells you that you need a line drop. There are no guarantees. I've read other people saying it took MONTHS.

  • Confused over Activation Date and Engineer Visit D...

    Placed an order for the full lot, phone, internet, TV. This is for a new development, with "BT lines pre-installed" (but not activated).
    I will recieve the equipment tommorow and the (estimated) activated is also tommorow, however I have just come to realised the scheduled engineer visit is not tommorow but the day after (Monday), this was moved/changed without notifying me.
    I gave BT a call, the kind gentleman on the phone suggested to me because it is a new development, chances of work needing to be carried out inside or anywhere within my property is extremely slim, maybe just to test. I agree here as it seems my neighbours all have working phone lines very quick with minimal hassle.
    For fun, I decided to give my own phone number a ring. It connects fine, but because there's no dial tone my phone didn't ring on the line; I assume the activation hasn't been carried out yet.
    So my query here is the activation carried out elsewhere or by another team, while the engineer just comes and checks if everything is ok? Best case scenario is that I recieve my equipment tommorow, mainly the phone/router and my phone and internet works when I whack it in, I could care less for the TV right now.
    Just to reiterate this is a new development/block of flats and the developers have done everything to make it as easy as possible, as initially they said "just give BT a call and they will activate it for you". I haven't questioned my neighbours yet on how they got their's so fast yet as due to my awkward working hours I can't easily get hold of them without disturbance.

    Hi there,
    The activation is usually done automatically (may take upto midnight on the day of activation) and then the engineer who will run tests on the line to check that it is stable will make sure it is in running order.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need an engineer visit to be arranged asap

    Hi, I ordered a package deal (phone, broadband and tv) on 16th November and I was told that I would receive all the equipment just before or on the activation date which was on 2nd December, I was also told that an engineer would be out to see me between 8am and 1pm on 2nd December to activate the line.
    All the equipment arrived on the 2nd December and I thought "nice one, I'll be all set up in a few hours" but guess what?.......... No engineer visit, its now the 6th and still no contact at all, can a member of staff please help me get this sorted?
    Vicky

    I ordered my phone line on 01st November and eve booked the date of 26th November PM - the date of my move to a new build....to date BT have not confirmed anything as to when an engineer is coming to install the phone line, On checking the website I see now this is 4th January PM.
    I have a dial tone but cannot make or receive calls - I think I have spoken to nearly everyone at BT - when you tell then you was was speaking to someone and quote a name they say oh that's not this office etc.
    Their excuse for not installing on the 26th November was due to bad weather - I have informed them that on that date the weather was fine and dry, the snow in the S.E. of England region arrived the week after.
    Needless to say these people at BT don't really care - they are a monopoly and if you need a phone line installed you have no choice.
    BT openreach are very busy especially with the festive period coming up apparently, how long does it take to become a BT Engineer ? do you have any jobs ? I would love to work for them, think of the money you could make.
    They don't even acknowledge anything - just take your money and run...oh which reminds me they owe me on my last phone line at my old house...they will carry this onto my new bill - like I have a choice, If I owe BT money and don't pay they will cut off my phone line.
    Enough of my rant - I've only had to wait 14 days so far others are longer...

    No such model exists, therefore there is no problem.
    Seriously though, clean the dock connector and headphone jack.  Lint/debris in either can cause problems.

  • Dramatic increase in drop calls since update 2.2.1

    Has anyone else seen a dramatic increase in dropped calls since they installed the latest software update. My phone is quickly becoming unusable. I would estimate every 2 of 3 calls are dropped.

    I've had my iPhone for about 3 months and until now had no problems. I did the upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 with no problems. Now I have upgraded from 2.2 to 2.2.1 which was a big mistake. My 3G data reception is much worse. Before 2.2.1 I could happily listen to NPR all day without a problem. Now it will either tell it can't access the network or die after 10 seconds. During which the phone displays 5 bars on 3G. The meter is a total lie. This problem is with any network application. Last night I ran the carrier update patch and that has not changed this problem.
    My question is can I roll back to firmware 2.2? Will the iTunes restore process roll back the firmware? I had a blackberry 8830 before and could wipe the phone OS and roll it back. I haven't done any jail breaking processes.
    It will be a cold day before I update my phone again. Any ideas how to roll back to an older version of the firmware or is there a fix out yet?
    Thanks.

  • How to avoid last line(ie repeating last line)

    I wrote a procedure for writing DB table to flat file.
    but the last line is repeating ie printing twice.
         OPEN curr_v FOR str_all_cols_sel;
    LOOP FETCH curr_v INTO l_columnValue;
              utl_file.put_line(l_output,l_columnValue);
    EXIT WHEN curr_v%NOTFOUND;
    END LOOP; -- curr_v
    Any help?

    If you reached the last record, it gets printed. Then it fetches once more, but no data is found. However you first print and then exit. That's why the last line gets printed twice.
    The code should be:
    OPEN curr_v FOR str_all_cols_sel;
    LOOP
    FETCH curr_v INTO l_columnValue;
    EXIT WHEN curr_v%NOTFOUND;
    utl_file.put_line(l_output,l_columnValue);
    END LOOP; -- curr_v

    Rob.

  • TS3406 Has anyone else experienced frequent dropped calls since the latest IOS upgrade?

    I have experienced dropped calls since I upgraded my IOS a few weeks ago. Anyone else having the same problem?  AT&T blames Apple, Apple blames AT&T, I'm stuck in the middle.
    HELP?!?!?!?

    I'm with ATT and no.
    I had a dropped call not long ago and it wasn't due to my iPhone or ATT. A friend with Sprint tried to call me while driving through a known low reception area with Sprint. Sprint dropped the call.
