Link to file on Shared Drive

In one of my report output, I need to include a link(url) to file on Shared Drive. The path is stored in database and it will be retrieved in query. The file can be either PDF/WORD/Excel for now.
For ex. e:\\abc\share\test.xls should appear as url in report and when user clicks the url, it should open the test.xls file.
Could some body help me how to do this?
Thank You.

Hi..
I have the same scenario..
One of the columns in the xml file has a path on the shared drive..
like...
S:\MANAGERS\xxxx.doc
when the user clicks on the hyperlink the documnet doesn't open and is giving an error as
cannot find file:///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/S:\MANAGERS\xxxx%20.doc make sure the path or internet address is correct.
As you can see the report is adding the path ///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/ before the actual path that appears in the report.
Snippet of my xml file..

I am accessing a windows server using remote desktop and I am wondering if I can transfer files by sharing drives?

Probably. You may be able to use Finder > Go > Connect to server to access the server. You may be able to share folders using Remote Desktop too. Whichever one you like the best.

  • Link to fold on shared drive from PDF

    Hi all,
I have a PDF document that I would like a text box to link (open a shared drive)to a shard folder drive. I have tried the file:/// (path) but it does not work.
I basically want a visual box a user clicks to go to the specific folder on the drive as the address name is very long.
    Anyone have ideas?
    Thanks,

The PDF language allows for any type of URI that you wish to supply, which may point to a file, folder or any other object.
However, do to security concerns, a conforming PDF viewer (such as Adobe Acrobat or Reader) may choose not to implement all possible URI schemes. in this particular case, Acrobat/Reader do not support a "folder" scheme.

  • How to configure/send http links to files on a drive?

We recently switched over to a Mac-based file server for our small business from a Windows server after a hardware failure. Previously we were able to send HTTP links (I believe using FTP?) to clients that linked directly to video files on one of the drives within the server, which would play back in a browser window or could be downloaded by saving the link. I'm now trying to figure out how to add this functionality to the new server. I'm not an IT guy so this is all kind of Italian to me. All I'm looking for is someone to point me in the right direction.
What I do know is that the old links were formatted as such:
    zcg911.us/_clients/cintas/example.mov
There was a drive attached to the server we labeled "htdocs" which contained the "_clients" folder, and was being linked to. Basically I just want to replicate this functionality so we can resume sending out links to our clients in this way.
Is this something I can do with the OS X Server app? Or do I need third-party software to accomplish this? Any help would be hugely appreciated.

For http links to work in this case you need a web server which can access those files and then 'serve' them via http. Such a URL would look something like
    http://mywebsever.domain.com/_clients/cintas/example.mov
The web server could be the file server and this would make things easier but it could be logged in to the file server as a client itself.
If you simply add a folder or folders to the web server so it can share these to clients, you need to make sure no other files are in the same folders that you do not want to make available to other people. Either this means ensuring only the files you want are in those folders, or instead of sharing the folders themselves, you could make aliases, aka. 'shortcuts', aka. 'links' to the individual files and putting those aliases in the website folder.

  • Can we give UNIQUE ACCESS FOR THE SPECIFIC FILE IN THE LIBRARY in SP2013? How can we remove users from SHARED WITH link where files are shared with users?

    Hi,
    Any help on this?
    Thanks
    srabon

    Hi srabon,
For giving unique access for a specific file in a library, you can go to the library, and select the file , and click FILES->Shared With->ADVANCED, under PERMISSION ribbon, click ‘Stop Inheriting Permissions’, then the file will have unique permissions.
For removing the shared users for a file, firstly, like the above steps, select the file , and click FILES->Shared With->ADVANCED , make sure the file has unique access, then select the users that you want to remove, and click Remove User Persmissions
    under PERMISSIONS ribbon.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is there no way to re-link all files on a drive at once? Lightroom ask to "combine folders" instead?

    Hi,
I would like to relink all the photos in my LR5 catalogue to a new drive to which I have copied all the items using Finder (and not from within LR unfortunately).
When clicking on the exclamation mark next to the "missing" photo with "Find Nearby Missing Photos" checked, I can relink all photos in that folder. The same is true if done through the folder pane to the left. But when trying to relink several folders at once, like e.g. when selecting the main 2014 folder, it only says that the folders are already recognized and offers to "combine" them and offers no other re-link alternative. Relinking each folder manually would be too time consuming and I am sure there has to be a way to do this since it was possible already in LR3 (and probably before that).
What does "combine folders" mean in this context and how would I go about to solve this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Migrate from File Server Shared Drives to Document Libraries, while Keeping Modified and Created Date

I am doing some file migration for a client, using SharePoint 2013 on prem.
Whether copying files from a local or network drive, to a Document Library, or from Document Library to other Document Library, I want the option of
preserving file dates and created/modified by fields.
I am developing a pretty cool tool in Excel to analyze files and directory names for restricted characters, large file sizes, and long path names...and then
it generates copy commands or rename commands as desired. I will share this with you if you like. This little glitch is the last remaining barrier.
Can we copy and retain Modified/Created Data and time? Can I do this using xcopy or robocopy or do I need to use powershell, ShareGate, or some other tool?
I have tried Windows Explorer drag-n-drop, "robocopy /COPY:DAT" and "xcopy /k"
and these seem to work great in th CMD window until you display the resulting files in SharePoint...and the modified date shows as now and modified by
    shows as me.
Any suggestions you can provide are most welcome.

  • Migrated Library still linked to files on old drive.

When I got my new Mac Pro in Feb, I pulled my old drive out of my G4 and installed it in the Mac Pro. I then used the Migration Assistant to copy my user files over. Everything was looking fine until I decided I didn't need the files on the old G4 drive anymore. I deleted my user data and now iTunes claims 95% of my music files are offline (exclamation point in front of the name). I guess it was still pointing most of the songs to the old files on the old drive. I do have and have always had the preferences set to copy files to the iTunes folder during import.
The files are on the new drive in the right place. If I try to play a song, it says the file can't be found and it lets me reconnect to it. And then all is well - for that one song. Reconnected about 20 so far and they all work so I'm pretty sure all the music is there.
OK, finally here's the question: Is there a faster way to reconnect all the remaining song files to the iTunes library without re-importing and losing all the play and ratings history. Doing it one at a time will take me until its time to upgrade to a new computer - which was about 5 years for the last upgrade. I think I still have around 1200 files to reconnect although the alert I get when connecting my iPod only shows 100 in the list of missing.
By the way, the whole library is/was synced to my iPod if that will help.

Well, I thought I had a solution. My iPod has all the music and playlists (but no movies) so I bought a license to Podworks. The first time I tried to import my music and playlists from the iPod, it errored out on each file with the same error described by some obscure error number I don't remember.
I then tried deleting all the bad files from iTunes (the ones with the exclamation points) and then iPodworks imported everything. The trouble is my library folder nearly doubled in size. Yes, even though I deleted the files in iTunes, since they didn't connect to the music files on the disk, they remained. Now I have a second copy of all those files imported from the iPod. A " 1" was added to the imported file names.
On to plan B, whatever that is.

  • Sync shared drive to sharePoint document library

Is it possible to sync files in shared drive to SharePoint site?
if i add any new files it should get updated in Document lib too .

    Hi,
For your requirement, you can take consideration of mapping a SharePoint library with a local drive folder.
Here is a link will provide more details:

  • Linking to Shared Drive in InDesign

I know how to create Hyperlinks in InDesign, but what if I want the user/reader to be able to click on a Shared Drive link that will take them directly to a particular shared drive folder on a company’s shared drive? Is this possible? It’s not an “http” link, it’s totally different, so I can’t select the URL option…

    Welcome to our community, Dennis
You might try first clicking the down arrow to the left of
where the Hyperlink information goes in the Hyperlink dialog. From
there, choose File... Then type the \\servername\folder in the File
    Name field.
If that fails (and it may) you may wish to consider using a
Redirect page to link to the file.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can not get exclusive lock on the shared drive of Azure file storage

One of my application need exclusive access on the data folder where it writes the data.
I have setup data folder in Z drive which is shared drive of Azure File system.
The application is not able to get the exclusive access on the data folder and throws IO exception.
Is that not possible with shared drive of azure file system

    Hi Subodh,
You could refer the following link for details on how pessimistic concurrency (Exclusive lock) managed in Azure Storage:

Please be advised that an Exclusive lock on an Azure File Share is not possible using REST Protocol and need to be done using the SMB Protocol.

  • Read-only access when saving metadata to file from Adobe Lightroom on a MAC OS to Windows shared drive

We have a group of 5 people editing and indexing photos to a shared drive on a windows server, everyone has its own catalog and working on different folders to avoid any locking conflicts.
The windows computers don't have any problems but the Mac's don't write the updated metadata to all files because they get the message "Photos have read-only access".
    The environment is the following:
    2x Macs workstations running:
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    - iMAC with MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    3x Windows Workstations:
    - Windows 7
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    Server:
    - Shared drive on a Windows Server 2012 Standard
I have searched the internet, no one has this problem with this exact setup but I have tried all the solutions I found, namely:
    1. Connect to the network drive with cifs:// protocol
    2. Change the settings of the nsmb.conf for 'smb1_only' protocol
    3. Mount the drive manually by command line
    Nothing worked, any ideas?

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?  I have the same issue and wonder if Lightroom 6 will resolve it.  I  tried AFP, SMB2, SMB3 and they all failed to save metadata randomly. When I use NFS from OS X then it works fine but it's a little slower than SMB and it's not as native as the mount via AFP or SMB, so it's harder to maintain.     My server is a FreeNAS 9.2 (FreeBSD) which is running Samba, Netatalk and native NFS.
