Linux amd64 system installation

Could some one please either tell me how to install the toolkit on a amd64 system or point me to a howto. I have been told that I may be able to use it in a chroot but I am not sure about how to go about this. I have looked around and am not sure if chroot is the way I need to go as I would need to be able to use th erest of my system.
thanks in advance

This is probably a simple case of not having the right authorization in sudoers for the user.  Can you compare your /etc/sudoers to the examples here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7375.configuring-sudo-elevation-for-unix-and-linux-monitoring-with-system-center-2012-operations-manager.aspx?
The "no tty present and no askpass" error is simply saying that it cannot prompt for a password because there is no tty.  The commands need to be authorized for no password so that a password prompt is not necessary.

I forwarded this to the Linux admin for him to look at.
I am told that we cannot permit root access to a non-privileged account without a password, so the recommendation in this article will not work. Any other ideas?

I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?

  • Adding a Linux Operating System To the HP computeers with Windows 8.1

In Feb this year, I purchased an HP Envy 700-216 computer which came with Windows 8.1 installed. As everyone is now finally realizing, even Microsoft, Windows 8 and 8.1 sucks and is shortly going to be replaced and made obsolete!! I knew this when I purchased the computer, but no one could tell me how to add a Linux operating system to it, including the technicians at Ofice depot and the ones at HP support. We could get the HDD partitioned, but the BIOS always reset when the computer was rebooted. .
I finally figured it out on my own which required quite a bit of research. This information ought to be available via HP support (It was not!!!).
Briefly, I had to go into the BIOS and then download my Linux distro of choice (Linux Mint Debian Edition) which provides a very easy to operate partitioning system. I allowed only 500 Gigs of space for the Windows OS leaving the rest of the 2 TiB drive for my Linux Distro. . Then I downloaded and installed reFind, a freebie which allows the easy selection and setting of the preferred operating system.
If anyone else would like to know how to do this, please contact me and I'll try to walk you through it.

Never mind, I think I hacked up my own solution to the question:

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 Installation Issue

Basic Oracle Linux 6.2 installation problems.
There are two iso files supplied for the installation.
    V29609-01.iso (install files)
    V29610-01.iso (bootable disc)
I boot from V29610-01.iso and the setup files run fine.
I am then prompted to identify the location of the second disc.
I encountered a problem where my DVD drive door would not open to insert the second disc.
To work around this problem I created a partition on my hard disc to copy
the installation files for the second disc to.
I boot from windows 7 (my primary operating system) and copy the installation files from the disc
    to the partition.
    I reboot from V29610-01.iso.
When prompted to identify the location of the install disc/files on my hard drive
I selected the drive where I copied the files to and press <enter>
I receive a message that it cannot find the image disc there.
    I shut down.
I boot from windows 7 and this time copy the actual disc image
    V29609-01.iso there instead
I reboot from V29610-01.iso and repeat the same procedure.
It still can't locate the disc image.
(I noticed the boot disc always defaults to the following structure in its displayed path \image\image.img
for the image file that it is trying to locate)
    I shutdown.
I boot from windows 7 and this time create a directory called image and
rename V29609-01.iso to image.img and copy it to the image directory. Still no luck.
Why can't it locate the disc image?
    Thankyou

    @ O.P.,
What are you actually trying to accomplish? Replacing your Windows OS with dual boot Linux? In the later case I recommend you to use VirtualBox and forget about the old-fashioned and obsolete dual boot. Of course your system must not be older than 7 years with a x86_64 CPU and VT-x or AMD-d option. Why do you want to install a 32-bit OS?
Anyway, the V29609-01.iso install DVD is bootable. You will need to burn the .iso disk image doing a raw disk copy, but not the content of the mounted .iso image or you will loose the bootloader. There is plenty of information in Google searching for "burn iso image". If you use Virtualbox you can boot right of the disk image file without burning a DVD.

  • Install Tuxedo (tuxedo10gR3) as a root user in Linux Operating System

    Hi,
Is it mandatory to install Tuxedo (tuxedo10gR3) as a root user in Linux Operating System?
    Thanks
    Soundappan

I saw we need root access as a prerequisites in the installation guid. (I assume we need the root access only to create a owner and group id on the unix system)
    =====================
    Prerequisites
Before you begin to install Oracle Tuxedo, make sure that you have the following resources in place:
    • TCP/IP connectivity (required for PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.50 or higher) between the client machine and
    the application server
    • Approximately 235 MB of free disk space on the application server
    • For UNIX, you must have root access.

I am running Java Linux (AMD64)
but I have no <JAVA_HOME/jre/plugins directory and no libjavaplugin_oji.so file with the Java installation.
    1) Can I download libjavaplugin_oji.so plugin somewhere?
    2) Will it work in Java Linux (AMD64)?
    3) Can Java Linux (AMD64) be setup to operate Java WebStart Technology?
If so, How the h--- do I do it?

I have the same problem. Downloaded the 64 bit jre and found no libjavaplugin_oji.so in it.

Has anyone made the 32 bit jre work on the 64 bit linux?

  • Installing Oracle Web Tier 32-bit on a 64-bit Linux Operating System

    Hello,
We're trying to install the 11.1.1.2 32-bit web tier on a RHEL 5 64-bit system following these directions: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/doc.1111/e14770/install.htm#CHDCGDJG
We're trying to figure out the equivalent on our system to these notes:
"c.Using a text editor such as vi, create a new file called gcc41 that contains the following conent:
    #!/bin/sh
    exec /usr/bin/gcc.orig -m32 -static-libgcc
    -B/usr/lib/gcc/i586-suse-linux/2.95.3/ $*
    Note:
The file i586-suse-linux/2.95.3 may differ slightly depending on the exact version of your Linux operating system. Verify the exact version of your Linux operating system in use; search for the 32bit directory in /usr/lib/gcc and obtain the exact file name."
We think ths might be the closest thing:
    [root@server1 32]# pwd
    /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.1.1/32
    [root@server1 32]# ls
    crtbegin.o crtbeginT.o crtendS.o libgcc.a libgcc_s.so libgomp.a libmudflap.a libmudflapth.a libstdc++.a libsupc++.a
    crtbeginS.o crtend.o crtfastmath.o libgcc_eh.a libgcov.a libgomp.so libmudflap.so libmudflapth.so libstdc++.so
Can someone tell us what "file" they are speaking of in this environment? Or is that "2.95.3" a directory??
    Thanks for the help!

For anyone that might run into the same problem, here's what needs to be in the gcc41 for a RHEL 5 64-bit platform:
    #!/bin/sh
    exec /usr/bin/gcc.orig -m32 $*

  • Missing javaws in linux amd64 jdk1.6.0_03 ?

    Hello,
Is it me, or there is really no javaws in jdk1.6.0_03 for linux amd64?
    Thanks.
    M. Manese

you are right, currently there is not 32-bits plugin for this architecture
    see http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=4802695
it will be solved in java 1.7
in the meanwhile you can use a special java5 plugin
    if you have ubuntu:
    sudo aptitude install ia32-sun-java5-bin
    and then:
    sudo touch /usr/local/bin/javaws
    sudo echo "#! /bin/sh" > /usr/local/bin/javaws
    sudo echo "/usr/lib/jvm/ia32-java-1.5.0-sun/bin/javaws $1" > /usr/local/bin/javaws
alternatively, you can try icedtea (an opensource temporary fork of java) (icedtea-java7-plugin)

The installation guide available at https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/ may require some updating. Last time I checked, chapter 16.16.5. Recommended Partitioning Scheme, did not include the swap space required for hibernation mode.
    It is mentioned here:
    https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/s2-diskpartrecommend-x86.html
Swap space size recommendations issued for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2 differed from the current recommendations, which were first issued with the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 in June 2012 and did not account for hibernation space.

  • System installer disk

i have heard about using your system installer disk to "clean-up" your mac. i have two disks, is it the first or second?
and is this the correct route:
    1. start mac using disk: (do i insert the disk as the computers turning on.)
    2. run app and check/repair permissions: (will this fix any probs automatically or do i have to go in and do it manually)
    anything i missed?

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions,
Using your system installer disc, you can use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair disks as well as system permissions. With the machine powered on, insert the first disc. Then, restart your Mac holding down the "c" key until you see the apple. It will now boot from the disk and you can utilize Disk Utility via the Utilities menu. I hope this helps! Here is a website that show you visuals.

  • BDD 2007 -- ZTI -- OSD error "The Operating System Installation Failed Unspecified Error (80004005)

    Hi there
Wonder if anyone can advise me on a BDD 2007 OS deployment issue? (Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I couldn't see a forum for BDD 2007.)
First of all, this BDD 2007 server and the OSD config was not done by me. For info, it is part of a SMS 2003 infrastructure.
I am trying to get the XP Pro build process working. I am led to believe the config has been completed.
Unfortunately, after booting the pc from the nic, I get an error. This is the order:
    - the 'Initializing Windows PE' splash appears for perhaps 15 seconds
    - very briefly, the text changes to 'Initializing Network'
    - for a second or two only 'Initializing Windows PE' appears again
    - then this error message appears:
"SMS Operating System Deployment - The Operating System Installation failed. Please contact your system administrator for assistance. Unspecified Error (80004005)"
I've spent some time looking into this error (80004005) and from what I can gather it possibly means 'access denied'.
I'm assuming after Windows PE loads the first Task Sequence begins, and if this possibly is where the issue lies?
One thing I cannot understand - the first Task Sequence (Initialization) has this command line (as do most, with different .wsf file):
    cscript.exe "%SCRIPTROOT%\ZTIGather.wsf" /localonly
However, I cannot access %SCRIPTROOT% at all, Windows says it can't find it. I can run other variables such as %USERPROFILE%, %SYSTEMROOT%, etc, but cannot open %SCRIPTROOT%.
Is it simply the case that I should create a new system variable (that has not been created by whoever built the server)?
    Thanks
    John Henry

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • NB550D-10G - Linux operating system

I have recently bought an NB550D-10G and have not yet used it.
I'm not a Windows fan and with a new desktop PC my first move would be to replace Windows with some form of Linux operating system.
However, before doing this on this netbook I want to check what the effect is likely to be on some of the features. I am interested in the following:
    1. Dolby Advanced Audio
    2. USB sleep and charge
    3. Sleep and music
    4. Power management
    5. Any other functions
For example, am I going to be able to use the sleep and music function when running Linux, or is this dependent on Windows or other pre-installed software?

Linux has problems with sleep, so I wouldn't expect to have immediate results with #2 and #3. Power management (#4) can be poor because Linux drivers are often written in a way that uses more power than needed.
I'd suggest doing a search for your specific issues in a Linux forum, because someone probably has fixes for these issues, but it won't be automatic. It will, however, be worth the effort in the end.
