Lion Server Installation dosen't work

Important server components can not be installed because it is currently on the software update server is not available.
Can help someone ?

I had a similar probem when I changed my computer name. Apple gave me the command to reset Apache web server to original settings and that took care of the problem for me. Here is the URL to the admin page with the command:
https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/10.7/#apd163efc3a-1465-4a44-ad2d- c76094144512
However, you should be sure to use the home SSL certificate when you move the office computer if you haven't already done so. I changed my IP range when I installed a new router and my wiki quit working after the reset. I reset apache and then found my ssl certificate wasn't set for web functions (I don't know why that happened). I reset that and Wkik worked fine, but I don't know which action, or both, was the solution this time.

  • Lion Server DNS service not working for locally created zones. Caching working fine.

OS Lion Server DNS service not working for local zones. Was fine under Snow leopard server but Lion server upgrade has severely broken my DNS and web sites. Zones look fine under Server Admin but keep getting "query failed (SERVFAIL) for xxxx at /SourceCache/bind9/bind9-42/bind9/bin/named/query.c:3921" in the logs. BTW - Server Admin cant seem to see the log file either.
Surely someone actually tested that DNS still worked on Lion?

I upgraded from Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server on day 01.  I hit the same issue where, after the upgrade, my Lion Server stopped serving names for my private local domain.
I finally took a few minutes to figure out what was wrong.  After turning on debug logging and looking through the logs, I found my particular issue, now resolved.
The issue I had was, when the domain initially was setup when I installed Snow Leopard Server, for some reason it created a zone just for the server (in my case, something like zone "s-01.mydomain.priv"), and a separate zone for all the other machines (zone "mydomain.priv", containing all the private IPs for my local domain).  I never messed with it because it worked, but generally I would have put all of them in the same zone.
My zone "mydomain.priv" had a nameserver and mail exchanger entry for my server, s-01.mydomain.priv.  I could see this in the Server Admin app on the DNS bubble, Zones tab, mydomain.priv selected, and the General Info panel.  This was fine in Snow Leopard.  This was failing the zone load in the updated bind for Lion Server, though.  The issue was that the "mydomain.priv" zone was referencing the s-01.mydomain.priv server, which was not defined in the "mydomain.priv" zone but rather in the "s-01.mydomain.priv" zone.
    My fix:
    1. In Server Admin, add the server to the zone "mydomain.priv".  I put an A record (Add Machine) in the "mydomain.priv" zone for my server named s-01.mydomain.priv.
    2. shut down DNS on the OS X Lion Server (hit the Stop DNS button on Server Admin).
    3. edit /etc/named.conf by hand, removing the specialized zones that contianed just the server.  In this case, it would be the section titled 'zone "s-01.mydomain.priv"' and the section titled 'zone "3.10.1.10.in-addr.arpa"'.  Your in-addr.arpa zone name will change based on whatever your server IP address was.  My internal one happened to have s-01.mydomain.priv mapped to 10.1.10.3.
    4. Once the specialized zones for just the server were removed, I started the DNS up again.  Instead of serving four zones as it had in OS X Snow Leopard Server, it now servers two zones.  And, now, it is resolving my local machines for the mydomain.priv zone.
YMMV.  I did note that it wasn't totally necessary to do step 3, but I never really understood the need for the specialized domain, and keeping it around would have a copy of data that would just confuse things.
Hope that helps.  That's been the only hiccup I've noticed updating to OS X Lion Server thus far.

  • Managed sql server installer has stopped working sql 2008 r2

I tried to installed sql 2008 r2 on my windows 7 but unfortunately I got message "managed sql server installer has stopped working"
    1. I tried to program feature on and off feature
    2. I checked setup file is corrupted or not setup file is well in condition
    3. I turn on firewall too.
then again I tried to installed again same problem I faced.
please any different way to overcome from this problem!
    regard Bishnu Khaling!

    Hi Bishnu,
As Shanky’s post, you can post the SQL Server setup log files for analysis.
According to the error message, it is usually a problem with the installation of .NET Framework on the machine. However, from your description, you try to turn on the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 feature and still fail to install SQL Server 2008 R2.
Do you reboot your computer after enabling .NET Framework 3.5?
To further troubleshoot this issue, I recommend you perform the following steps.
    1. Run the below tool to verify the state of one or more versions of the .NET Framework on the computer .
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
    2. If .Net Frameworks 3.5 cannot be verified in step1, please use the
.NET Framework Repair Tool to repair it.
    3. If there’s no problem with .Net Frameworks 3.5, and you also have .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5 installed on the computer, please uninstall .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5 completely. Then reinstall SQL Server and check if it is successful.
    4. In addition, please make sure that the Windows 7 system is not damaged.

  • Caught in failing lion server installation loop

    Hi,
I tried upgrading my Mac mini server (2010) from Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server. Midway through the installation the process is aborted with the error message "a recovery system can't be created, press restart to return to your previous system installation". The problem is, upon restart it does not boot into the previous system, but instead the Lion installation process starts again and fails with the same  "a recovery system can't be created" message. I am caught in a loop.
How can I restore my previous working Snow Leopard System?
    Regards,
    Sascha

Well, it is possible that the Snow Leopard system is still in place.  But for the reason for the error.  I am guessing your original server is running on a mirrored RAID.  If so, then the recovery volume can not be created.  This is a limitation of the corestorage tech and how full disk encryption and dynamic repartitioning work.
Try this.  When the unit reboots, hold down the option key on a connected keyboard.  When you do so, this will bring you into the boot select window.  See if you SL volume is still present.
If not, you did remember to snap a backup of the server before you started, right?

  • Lion server installer does not finish

I installed Lion Server from the App store, and it says that it installed successfully, but when I click the Finish button, nothing happens. About This Mac shows Lion 10.7.2, not Lion Server 10.7.2.
Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.

At this point the problem seems to be that the DNS records are bollixed up. I have my domain name server through Zoneedit, and their servers are showing my IP address as 24.xxx.xx.xxx, which is correct. When I do lookup for tehart.net I get an address of 73.xx.xxx.xxx, which is wrong. The lookup for www.tehart.net shows this:
    www.tehart.net.
    10800
    IN
    SOA
    www.tehart.net. admin.www.tehart.net. 2011122701 86400 3600 604800 10800
    www.tehart.net.
    10800
    IN
    NS
    www.tehart.net.
    www.tehart.net.
    10800
    IN
    A
    10.0.1.3
The forwarded address should be 10.0.1.4. I've got no idea how to fix this, and the Apple instructions insist on modifying DNS records, without supplying decent examples of how they should look.
I don't know if this is causing the problem, but if you've got any idea, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • Lion Server network accounts not working on some computers.

    Hello all -
I'm currently having an issue with network accounts working on some Macs but not others. I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro. The Mac Mini works fine and I can login and sync my network account with the server just fine. However, I cannot connect to it from my MBP.
When I try and connect I get an error that says "You are unable to log in to the user account "xxxx" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
If I login through console (by typing in ">console" in the username field) I get an error that says the user does not have a home directory...
I have searched numourous other forums but I have not found a solution that seems to solve this problem. I have unbound and re-bound my client to the open directory and I have restarted file sharing. Neither has solved the problem. I have a feeling the issue originates somewhere on the MBP since I can log in to the Mac Mini without any problems.
    Anymore suggestions?

Thanks for your suggestion, SolidWood. Unfortunately it didn't help.
After a 90 minute phone call with AppleCare, this issue has finally been resolved. Here is what the solution was. Turns out it was pretty simple but it took a while to find it.
First we created a test user and left the home folder set to Local Only in the Server App. I was successfully able to login with the test user on both clients but since there were no mobility preferences set, it was pretty basic.
Then, we removed the Users sharepoint from file sharing, turned off file sharing to disconnect any users, and restarted the server. Then we created a new folder on the Server HD with a random name. We chose Darron. We created a new sharepoint in file sharing (with it still turned off), and shared the new folder called Darron. Double click on the sharepoint and scroll to the bottom and check the box that says "Make available for home directories over AFP". Then we restarted file sharing.
Then we opened Workgroup Manager, clicked on the problem user in the left sidebar, clicked on the Home option at the top, and there were three things listed:
         (None)
         afp://servername.com/Users
         afp://servername.com/Darron
Then we removed the Darron sharepoint from file sharing, and found that it was still listed as a home directory under the problem user.
This was the root of the problem. The system didn't know which path to use as the home directory.
    Sooooo...
In the server app, we opened the Directory Utility (Tools in the menubar, Directory Utility). Clicked on Directory Editor. Authenticate to the directory using the diradmin login. Changed view settings to match this below:
In the left column, there were two paths listed for home mounts. We deleted both of them, saved changes, and closed directory editor.
Then, we restarted workgroup manager and both paths had been deleted from the users home listings. This was begining to solve the problem.
In the Server App, we recreated the users sharepoint, made it available for home directories, and restarted file sharing and workgroup manager. Now only one path is listed for the home folder for all the users.
This solved my problem of not being able to login on the MBP. The system synced the home folder and all was well. On the Mac Mini, I had to delete the problem account, un-bind from the network server, re-bind, and recreate the account. Now both clients are sycning perfectly and all is well.
Thank God I bought AppleCare! Thanks to everyone else for their help and suggestions.
As a recap, the problem of not being able to login to the MacBook Pro was caused by having multiple paths to the multiple home folders. These rogue paths were added somewhere in the troubleshooting process to try and recreate the home directories before I called AppleCare. To solve this, we had to remove the directory listings from accounts using Directory Editor, remove and recreate the users sharepoint in file sharing. The syncing problem on the Mac Mini was also created when multiple paths were introduced. The system didn't know which files to use.

  • How do I set up file sharing in Lion Server to work like file sharing in Lion Client?

I've just installed Lion Server on my home iMac to enable remote access via VPN to my home network.
When the iMac was running Lion Client (before the upgrade to server), and when File Sharing was enabled on the iMac; when other Macs on the LAN connected to the iMac via AFP, they were always able to connect to (share) any mounted external volumes (external USB or FireWire drives connected to the iMac). e.g.
Now that I've upgraded to Lion Server, when other Macs on the LAN connected to the iMac via AFP they are only able to connect to (share) the sharepoints listed in the File Sharing pane of Server.app. e.g.
Is there any way to set up File Sharing in Lion Server so that it works the same way as it does in Lion Client with respect to mounted external volumes? i.e. they are automatically shared? I know I can add each volume manually to File Sharing in Server.app but this gets tedious.
    Many thanks!

I normally have a Firewall enabled. I recently had to do an erase and install of Lion, followed by a one-by-one re-install of all of my software. One of the first things I did was to set up all of my System Preferences the way I like them; Turning the Firewall on was one of them. Later I noticed it was off and turned it on again. I had already set up sharing and was surprised to see the problem when I turned it back on.
As to why do I think it needs to be on. It is another part of my security layer.

  • Create a bootable Mountain Lion OS X Server installer ?

With Lion and Lion Server it was possible to create a Lion Server installer just bij adding a ServerVersion.plist file in the folder CoreServices.
Adding that enabled the normally greyed-out 'Customize'-button that installed the Server.app and ServerEssentails.pkg (nevertheless an internet connection was still required).
I don't go in details here too much but is a similar procedure possible for Mountain Lion ? To install OS X Server in one row ?

Not that I am aware of.  If you find a way please disclose.
I fear that this is no longer possible and the reason I say this is that we have already gotten a few BTO mini Servers arriving with Mountain Lion + Server.app installed.  However, if you erase the drive and perform and Internet restore you no longer get Mountain Lion + Server.app installed.  You get Mountain Lion and then need to go to the App Store, associate the device with an Apple ID which grants you access to Server.app for download.

  • Mountain lion server won't take my password for install

I have never run a server version of apple software.  I am wanting web sharing to host a small website.  This option was removed from sharing preferences in mountain lion.
I purchased server to avoid the need to use the command line interface.  It was requiring a password and I don't use a password on my system and it wouldn't take a null.  I am finding a similar problem with attempting to install server on mountain lion.
When I run the mountain lion server installer it prompts for an administrator password.  I hit return as I set up the system without an administrator password.  This fails, but works with all other admin password requests for software installation.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    David Finell

I just decided to setup passwords.  I just wanted to avoid the pain.  It worked.  Now to figure out how to share folders over the web in server.

  • Lion Server fetchmailconfig Error

    Hello
I have a Problem with the Lion Server. There is the same Problem on each Lion Server installation.
When I start fetchmailconfig on Lion Server I become an error messages.
    Error:
/usr/bin/python: can't open file '/fetchmailconf.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
On Mac OS X Snow Leo Server fetchmailconfig works fine.
Is there a way to repair that error?
    Regards
    Florian

I had the same issue, and now after some digigng I have the answer.
As you have found the the issue is that fecthmailconf.py is not in the right place (or even on the disk for 10.7.2), and if you look at the script fecthmailconf it pretty much tells you as much since the reference is to fetchmail.py being located at root i.e. exec /usr/bin/python /fetchmailconf.py "$@" = WRONG!.
I copied a version from the web and placed in the directory and it didn't work and showed the same error that you exposed. I suspect the .py file and the 6.3.18 are not matched version of the files required.
What I did was download fetchmail source (6.3.21) & installed the latest version of xcode.
I then cd to the directory I had downloaded and uncompressed the source to and typed the following at the command prompt. (these instructions in long form are in the INSTALL text file with the source)
    >$ ./configure --with-ssl
    >$ make
This built a new version of fecthmail
    >$ sudo make install
This installed the files, however. This caused a issue in that the new version of fetchmail and fecthmailconf where not copied to /usr/bin so i did the following
    >$ sudo cp fetchmail /usr/bin/fetchmail
    >$ sudo cp fetchmail /usr/bin/fetchmailconf
Then everything worked fine with fetchmailconf.
[That said, I did find that creating my .fetchmailrc and then before calling fecthmail you actually type fetchmail -V at the prompt. fetchmail will tell you how it will interpret the file and gives an indication if you have gone wrong or made a syntax error]
[NOTE: if you want all the features in fetchmail that Apple ship you need to add --with-gssapi --with-kerberos to configure command (if you are not using it though it does not matter) ]

  • Can you install Lion server but still use the mac as normal?

I have a Macbook Pro and I would like to install Lion server. I was wondering if when I buy it off the mac app store if it works like any application so I can like close out of the server and use the mac as normal like to get on the Internet, or if Lion server installs like a new operation system and I can't use my mac as normal?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Of course. On Mountain Lion and Lion, Server is just an app, so you can close it and turn off its services whenever you want to use your Mac as usual, although you don't have to close Server app to use the computer as normal
