  • LMS 3.2 SP1 - Syslog Report times out / CW14: NO HTTP response

    Hi,
in Device Center I can´t start the Syslog Report, it opens a new Browser window and times out.
If I start the "Device Troubleshooting" from the Device Center, all checks are successful. Just the check "Syslog Message" show the error: CW14: NO HTTP response from Servername
    I have LMS 3.2 SP 1 installed
I already re set the System Identity User and restarted the daemon, no success.
What should I check? Is it a known problem ?

  • LMS 4.2 , Subnet's Report

    Hi Guys
How to generate a Report for all ur existence  Subnet's using LMS 4.2?
    thanks
    Ibrahim

    Ibrahim,
You can get a report of all VLANs. It's not exactly the same thing but it the closest thing available in LMS. Here are the details for the VLAN report:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/user/guide/reports/tech_reports.html#wp1265257
To get all subnets and used addresses etc., you'd need an IP address management tool. Something like SolarWinds IPAM.

  • LMS 4.1 Credential Verification Report

    Hi,
when running Credential Verification Report, I get following notification: "None of the devices have credential verification data".
I have made different Default Device Credential sets that I'm using when I add devices to LMS. I been looking at the forums here, but I could not see wether this is bug in LMS 4.1 or if I have to do this a different way?
    Regards,

I'd suggest doublechecking your work by following the "Update the credentials" procedure on page 8 of this handy intro guide posted in the documents section of this forum.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 bug summary report

    Hi,
I have one Ciscoworks LMS 3.2, it managed around 500 devices. I tried to generate bug summary report and the bug number is zero. Please kindly help to solve this problem.
    Best Regards,

For how many devices are you running the report?
[ Wed Jan 05  21:26:50 CST 2011 ],INFO ,[main],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.bugtool.BTBugSummary,populateResults,295,Cisco.com URL Connection TimeOut: Try again later or with less number of devices.
Have you tried running it for just one?
This is also kind of strange,

Like as if cisco.com would not know about these C3750's
Maybe do an export of these 3750's in the DCR to see if the all have the same OID and if it is a supported OID.
Are your device packages up to date? You may want to sync those with CCO.

  • LMS 4.2 - CPU Utilization Reports

We have CPU reports set to run daily for some of our higher priority switches, and we've noticed that some of the data isn't meshing with what we see on the switch. We have one heavily utilized switch that reports near 100% CPU utilization sometimes. I can do a "show proc cpu history" on that switch and see that at least once an hour over 72 hours, we'll see a near 100% CPU utilization.
The problem is that these spikes never appeare on any of our reports. We'd like to see this info because even if the switch spikes for just a few seconds or a minute, it could still indicate that we may have issues. Without that in the report, we may never realize there could be a problem.
Is there a way for this info to show in the report? I'm under the impression that if LMS polls the switch and doesn't see a high utilization average, then maybe it doesnt' enter that in the report. I guess I'd just like to know how often it pulls this data, and how it decides wath the Min, Max, and Averages are.
    Thanks for any help!
    Tim

    Same here, bump!

  • LMS 4.2 Syslog PDF Report problem

    Hi,
when I generate a Syslog 24 hour report and export the result to pdf the font size of the pdf is much too big so I get one page per line.
The same thing happens when I send the report via email attachment (pdf).
So the reports are not usable.
Can I change the settings? (fontsize?)
Other pdf-reports are ok, e.g. inventory etc.

  • V6 quiz report LMS as completed after 3 failed attempts

I have a pure quiz in captivate 6 that allows the learner to take it 3 times only eg
Attempt 1 = fail = report LMS incomplete
Attempt 2 = fail = report LMS incomplete
Attempt 3 = fail = report LMS incomplete
What i need is not logical but.........
    I require the LMS to
Attempt 1 = fail = report LMS incomplete
Attempt 2 = fail = report LMS incomplete
Attempt 3 = fail = report LMS complete
    Is this at all possible?
Happy to try anything with instructions
Thank you in advance and hope the above is clear enough
    Jo

Hmm, very illogical indeed. Not consistent with normal SCORM behavior at all.
Just  some ideas, without having checked them completely. You are using score or completion of slides as criterion? If it is the last option, make sure there are some slides to be viewed after the last attempt by using the Action on Fail that you'll find in the Quiz Preferences. I hope that is the case. But what if you have to report a score?

  • Reporting Progress and Scores in LMS

    Hi all,
I am having some trouble incorporating my Captivate presentations into an LMS and getting it to report both progress and assessments correctly.  This could be a lengthy post, so I apologize in advance.
Let me start by including my current setups:
The desired outcome is as follows:
    Progress
    - I want to report progress up until the exam; for instance, if a user leaves midway through, on slide 15 of 30, Captivate should relaunch on slide 15 for that user
    - Once I get to the exam, users should not be able to backtrack to previous slides.
    - If the user starts the exam, but doesn't finish, it should report to the LMS whatever score was earned, counting unanswered questions as 0's.
    - Once an exam is failed, and this is the tricky part, I want the course to completely restart.  Right now, it's loading mid-exam, and if I try to go back, it chain-pauses the presentation; possibly a conflict since I have it set to not allow users to go back once the exam is started.  Essentially, once a score is reported, I want to wipe the cookie saving the progress clean.
Is there a way I can achieve all of this through Captivate?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.  Right now, the best compromise I can come up with to check "Never Send Resume Data" and not save a users progress - but when I turn this off, it also isn't communicating the exam scores to the LMS either.
    Thanks in advance!

I can't promise that you can have everything you want, but perhaps some of your wishes are certainly doable in Captivate.
I note from your settings that you have the course Report Status set to track Complete/Incomplete rather than Pass/Fail, yet you talk about wanting the user to complete "exam" quiz questions and you also have Report Data set to Quiz Results Only.  There's something inherently contradictory about these settings. Complete/Incomplete is mostly for recording slide views. If recording quiz results is most important, I think you should really be using Pass/Fail.  It's an either/or decision. Most LMSs are far more likely to be reliable on the Pass/Fail setting and some just don't do Complete/Incomplete at all anyway.
I would also recommend you change your Report to LMS setting to Percent rather than Score.  In my experience, Percent is more LMS "friendly".
For starters, there are two mechanisms available for allowing the user to resume a course module at the same point they left off:
One option is to tick the option in TOC settings for Self-paced Learning.  This writes data to a Shared Object (Flash Cookie) on the user's PC that records the slide they finished on.  Captivate doesn't provide a means to erase this cookie out of the box.  You'd have to get some programming done in AS3 to achieve that extra functionality.
Option 2 is to untick the box in LMS Customisation Settings for Never Send Resume Data.  This then will mean the Captivate lesson DOES send resume data to the LMS.  With this option you are depending on the LMS to keep track of where your user got up to.  But be warned.  This setting is more reliable when it comes to tracking which scored object (e.g, a quiz question slide) the user got up to.  I'm not sure how reliable it is when it comes to tracking slide views because each LMS is slightly different as to it's abilities to track data. In my experience, using Self-Paced Learning is better for straight out slide view tracking, but it's also a pain when users that completed the course come back later to browse the content again because they get shunted straight to the last slide.  Quite annoying.  So I don't use it.
Now for some of your other wishes:
To prevent users backtracking to previous slides once they've reached the exam, simply disable Backward movement under Quiz Settings.  Remember that as far as Captivate is concerned, the quiz begins at the very first scored object, which might be a button or click box, not necessarily the first quiz question.
If a user only partially completes an exam, the LMS should still receive a score for each completed quiz question slide as long as you have Reporting Level set to Interactions and Score.  But be aware that this means the LMS will be getting pinged by the course after each and every user interaction, which can place quite a load on the LMS if there are lots of simultaneous users.
By default in Captivate, if a user gets a question wrong they get no score for that question.  So that one is easy.
Your final wish is to force the entire quiz to restart if the user flunks it.  I may be misunderstanding your drift but why not just allow the user multiple attempts at the quiz?  You can set this under Quiz > Settings > Pass/Fail.  Tick the box for Show Retake Quiz Button and place this button right over the top of the Review Quiz button on the Quiz Results slide.  The user will only see the Retake Quiz button if they fail the quiz and when they click it, their previous quiz answers are erased, effectively forcing them to redo the entire quiz.  Wouldn't that get you what you want?
One more thing.  Beware of the options in the drop down menu under Quiz > Settings > Required. I generally set this to Optional, as some of the other settings can cause unpredictable results with LMSs.
Hopefully this info will get you closer to your goals.

  • LMS Reporting Complete when communication is lost

The LMS we're using, eLogic, reports a SCORM course as Complete if the communication is lost. This was happening on a regular basis as associates began to use online training for the first time. So we requested that it leave the course as Incomplete so the user could re-open more easily. We've been told that this does not conform to SCORM standards that say if communication is lost that the course be marked as Complete. That makes no logical sense to me. Can anyone explain? Or help me to understand?
    Thanks!

I think this really has more to do with how your lesson is sending the status. It's the lesson that, ultimately, should decide if the lesson is complete or not. However, that status is not 'definite' until the LMS.commit function is called. Once that's called, then any data that's been sent back to the LMS is official.
So ideally, your CP lesson should not send a Completed status until the user has finished whatever tasks are required to gain that status (all pages viewed, certain interactions finished, etc)...then when the user exits the lesson, CP sends the Commit and Finish calls and the LMS finalizes that lesson.
It sounds like this LMS is doing some sort of default action where, perhaps, if communication is lost with the lesson or a timeout is reached, it automatically commits the status (which CP should have sent). So first:
    1. Is your CP lesson sending the status properly? Is it sending Completed as soon as it opens? That's a common issue... If so, the LMS could be receiving the status correctly, but acting on it incorrectly by commiting that status when it should not be.
    2. Is the LMS taking a default action, like setting a status to Completed, when the API communication is lost? Which, I agree, sounds like a bad assumption to make and is doubtfully a SCORM requirement.

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.2, how to sort Uptime report?

Using an Inventory Custom Report, Uptime can be shown and it is nicely parsed out to be human readable.  But how can I sort it to get the longest uptimes?
    Thanks for any help,
    Dave Faught

You can select parameters, but LMS won't show you data sorted up, unfortunately.
But withing the report, you can click on the columt fields and it can sort the data for you, and later it can be exported to pdf or csv:
If your schedule the job, you can receive the data directly mailed as .csv, which again can be sorted easily. No option withing LMS to do it before report is generated.

  • How to view router/switch logs using LMS 3.2?

Of course I can log into each of my 100 routers and switches and peforms "sh loggin" to look for problems, but how do I use LMS 3.2 to consolidate all those logs into one location?  Can I set up something so I can see those logs in more or less real time?
    Thanks in advance.

    >> Does LMS go get syslog messages periodically or does the device send a copy to LMS whenever it generates a new message?
    The latter.
If for some reason, the devices cannot log directly to LMS, there're a few options: 1) Devices log to a central syslog server, which in turn exposes the syslogs to LMS' Syslog Analyzer, either via the Cisco-supplied Remote Syslog Collector or some unsupported methods such as NFS mount, or 2) Install Syslog-ng on the central syslog server, relay the logs to LMS, as described in this whitepaper: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/netmgtsw/ps6504/ps6528/ps2425/white_paper_c11-571038.html
    >> What's the benefit of scheduling a report to run automatically?  Is it saved somewhere that is easier/quicker to get to?
It's the usual benefits of automation. Scheduled syslog reports apparently write outputs to /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/cri/archives/syslog/reports/output/[jobID_runID], on Solaris, for example. The structure inside is rather muddy. So it might be easier to have something like a VBscript to screen-scrape the LMS web GUI for the report outputs instead.
    >> Can new syslog messages from devices be posted to an RSS feed?
That's a novel idea. Though obviously not from the devices directly, it most likely coud be done through some "syslog2rss" relay residing on the syslog server. I think the potential volumes of logs could be too much for RSS, unless careful filtering/deduplication takes place on the relay before posting to a feed.
