Logic 9 and Logic Control Surface

I recently received a Behringer BCF2000 as a gift and have successfully set it up in LC (Logic Control) mode. I'm having an odd problem, however, as the control surface only is receiving from Logic and changes on the BCF2000 are not reflecting in logic. When I change sliders/pan positions/etc in Logic, the BCF2000 reflects these changes. However, pressing buttons on the BCF2000 is unresponsive and if I move a slider, the motorized fader will return to the position as set in Logic.
I have been scouring the manuals for a solution, I'm sure it's something simple but I'm getting very frustrated. Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thanks!

Indeed.
Remove the control surface driver, and use LC Xmu instead. It's the absolute best way to use the Korg controllers with Logic, and has just about every feature you want/need.

  • Logic Pro X: control surface "Scrub" no longer working

    Hi everyone,
I'm a relatively new user of Logic Pro, and a very new user of Logic Pro X - I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction!
I've been using DAW Remote HD (by EUM Labs) on an iPad 1 with Logic Pro 9, and found them to be a great combination.
Two weeks ago I upgraded to Logic Pro X, and I've found a problem which has been driving me crazy. Basically, the "Scrub" function using the Jog wheel in DAW Remote HD has stopped working. Using the jog wheel just to jog forwards and backwards works fine; however, when I hit the Jog / Scrub toggle, the "Play" button lights up, and then regardless of whether I try to scrub forwards or backwards the playhead just "jiggles" in place and nothing happens - no scrubbing.
Can anyone help? I'm guessing the control surface assignment has gone awry somewhere, but have *no clue* where to start. I've had a look at the Controller Assignments expert view in Logic Pro X, and had a read through the Control Surfaces documentation, but I'm all at sea. Is this a bug somewhere, or is this something I can "fix" myself?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help. I can't use the native Logic Remote as I only have an iPad 1, and am hoping I can get this important function working again on DAW Remote HD as it's pretty vital in my workflow.
    All the best,
    Sarah

    Hi everyone,
I've been doing a bit more research into this and am wondering if it might actually be a bug. I've deleted my control surface config file, reinstalled the DAW Remote several times clean, both automatic and manual, and even tried it out with completely different control surface software on my iPad1.
In all cases the "scrub" function doesn't work properly - it stutters and "jiggles" and moves forwards randomly, and all the while the jog / scrub toggle enables the "PLAY" button (I'm not sure if this latter is intended functionality or not - I never noticed when it was working in Logic Pro 9).
Could it be that Logic Pro X is interpreting the scrub command(s) differently from Logic Pro 9, or even incorrectly? I don't know anywhere near enough about control surface commands to comment - just that the apps & functions were working with Logic Pro 9 and now aren't with Logic Pro X.
Would someone mind giving this a second check to see if it can be replicated? Basically use an iPad control surface app like DAW Remote HD, AC-7, LPTouch, etc, with Logic Pro X and try and get the "scrub" working on the jog wheel (jog works fine - it's scrub that's the issue).
I'm using an iPad 1 so don't have access to the Logic Remote, and it seems a bit expensive to upgrade the iPad to get access to a scrub wheel.
    Thanks!
    Sarah

  • Using an Edirol PCR-300 as a keyboard and MIDI control surface. Any luck

In the manual for the Edirol it lists 8 or 10 templates for Logic and then doesn't go on to say exactly what they do. I tried adding the PCR from the list of supported surfaces but it's not there.
There is some instruction in the PCR manual to open the Audi0o Midi data manager and create nodes with connections, but I'n not sure exactly what the point of that is supposed to be.
After doing some digging I found something that that the Edirol had to be supported in Mackie emulation mode. I recently did some major problematic upgrades and lots of this appear to be lost. I don't know which Mackie mode it supports. My guess it would be HUI, because unlike the MCU the Edirol isn't really bidirection is this correct?
I think I had it working before the upgrade, but now I've got the old problem back. I can get the control surface to sort of work and then when I touch a regular key the whole screen goes crazy with windows popping up and down then disappearing.
I think for some reason the Edirol is sending out messages that are telling Logic to frequently cycle through screen sets. I did think I had figured out this problem once before after diligent searching, but I forgot how I did it.
Any ideas on how to get the Edirol PCR-300 to play well with Logic?

Yes I have installed the drivers as the PCR 300 works with Logic 8.

  • Logical AND, Logical Shift

    hello,
    can someone explain this?

Read the context help for the Logical Shift function.
"y can be any numeric representation. If y is greater than 0, the function shifts x left y bits (from least significant to most significant bit) and inserts zeros in the low-order bits. If y is less than 0, the function shifts x right y bits in the positive direction (from most significant to least significant bit) and inserts zeros in the high-order bits."
Put in -4 to rotate 4 bits to the right.

  • Logic Pro X inaccessible after waking from sleep when using an MCU Control Surface

I'm having a problem I cannot seem to get around without force quitting Logic every time.  If I have a Control Surface setup as a Mackie Control (v1.0); and if the computer goes to sleep, and then i turn off the controller while the computer is asleep (for any reason), and then wake the computer without turning on the controller first, Logic becomes completely unusable and must be force quit.
My controller in this example is Solid State Logic's Nucleus controller, however it happens with other Mackie Control compatible controllers (i have another one i tested against), BUT not a real Mackie Controller sold by Mackie (i tested with that as well); more details below.
For the SSL controller, Logic automatically sets it up like this:
Now if the computer goes to sleep, and i wake it up, i get the following dialog, which is fine:
After clicking on "Continue" button or hitting the enter key, Logic is rendered useless, as if there is a modal dialog still open somewhere.  Clicking anywhere on the gui results in white flashes and nothing else.  doing cmd+Q to quit actually makes it try to quit (a save dialog appears), but it never does successfully quit, making me resort to force-quitting.  For an example, here's a pic of the file menu at this point:
I also have a regular Mackie Control Unit (MCU Pro) and the strange thing is with that unit, everything works fine after sleep, turning off controller, and re-awakening.  However, there is a difference in what kind of dialog is displayed after the sleep, which probably has something to do with this issue.
Here is the setup screen of the MCU Pro:
And here is the dialog for the missing ports after waking from sleep:
This dialog is completely different than the other control surface's missing ports dialog.  When clicking on "Keep unassigned" here, Logic resumes working fine.
The project is as minimal as possible; nothing is loaded, all that's there is an empty instrument track and a Control Surface configured.
    I'm using a Mac Mini (late 2012)
Processor  2,6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
    with Logic Pro X 10.0.7
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Did you ever figure out a solution to this problem?
I just pulled out my original Emagic Logic Control (MIDI) and I have having the same problem.

  • How do I 'invert drawbars' in control surfaces?? Korg NanoKontrol & VB3

I've set up my Korg nanokontrol with VB3 organ, and all is OK apart from the drawbars are inverted. (When I pull the fader down the drawbar decreases in volume rather than the other way around). Is there something to select to 'Flip' this action.
There is actually a setting on VB3 but it's not changing in Logic.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Hey Scrooge, why the attitude? Did anyone here mistreat you? And why hijack the thread?
Anyway, if you loose settings minutes after they worked, I would say the hardware may be shaky. Or the cabling. Or the operators' skills.
Ambient8 has gracefully and concisely pointed the way, and if something is not working just describe what and how it is, instead of complaining (on somebody else's thread) to people who voluntarily try to offer help & solutions.
    Ambient8:
+"Pay special attention to "Assigning Key Commands to Control Surfaces" on page >164+
+The rest need to be set up as a control surface by using the Learn (Command+L) function to assign faders to tracks and knobs to pans, etc.+
+See the Logic Pro 8 Control Surfaces Support guide in the Help menu for info on controller assignments. Chapter 2 "Customizing Controller Assignments" has the info assigning controllers to Logic Pro parameters."+
If you say I did exactly as described on these pages, and all your settings seemed to disappear, I can only assume that either something is wrong with your Logic prefs, the logic.cs file or the CS itself.
    Regards, Erik.

  • Can't find control surfaces?

I am trying to set up a MIDI controller using automap, and when I go through Logic>Preferences, the Control Surfaces option doesn't show up. I have also tried searching the "Help" engine, but it doesn't come up. Where can I find it?

Have you tried turning on "Show advanced tools" under the "Advanced" tab in Logic Preferences? Also, make sure "Control Surfaces" is checked in the "Advanced" preferences tab.

  • Control surface with keyboard controller

I'm fairly new to Logic and sequencing (but not Macs) so I'm on a steep learning curve.
I set up Logic with a Yamaha 01x as an interface and control surface. That's working o.k (after some dramas). I play software synths with an Edirol PCR controller keyboard. What I want to do dedicate the 01x to sequencer and mixing duties and assign the keyboard knobs and sliders to soft synth controls, (preferably globally - as in not plug-in by plug-in). When I try to use the learn function on a soft synth it doesn't want to take the assignment. It flashes the name of the keyboard briefly then reverts back to the name of the 01x port. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact the keyboard is a separate USB midi interface. Whatever it is, I don't know where to find a set-up page for the keyboard or the combination of the keyboard and the 01x. Funny thing is, setting up my keyboard is so easy in MainStage which is part of the same software suite.
I can't find anything in the manual that deals with this sort of hardware controller combination. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I still can't get this working so I am posting some more information in case someone can see a glaring hole in my logic (pun definitely intended).
I have tried setting up controller assignments in both the Logic preferences and by the learn function within the plug-ins. My keyboard is a USB MIDI interface but it is not seen as a control surface by Logic. (As you say, Bee Jay, that's a good thing). It is sending out notes and controller messages on its own discrete port, port 1 (of two), channel 1. The synths in MainStage can see my keyboard and my control surface just fine. I can't see why it should be any different with Logic? Certain controllers always work (pitch bend, mod wheel pan volume and aftertouch). I have not been able to assign any of the other controls of any soft synth. Even if I set the soft synth destination to receive a source I know the keyboard is putting out (I can see it on the transport bar input display), it still doesn't work the control. I've tried deleting all "learned" controllers and starting again - Many times now.
Needless to say, I'm getting to that stage. . .

  • Random sound generated from external midi device even without a song opened... How to uninstall external control surfaces?

    Recently bought systems used :
         Roland FA-08 workstation
Mixingtable with USB connection Yamaha MG12XU
Mac Os X 10.9.4 Maverick with Logic Pro X 10.0.7
for each system the latest usb-drivers are installed
    Problem :
I get random noises generated (non-stop) from the connected synthesizer FA08 starting up Logic, even without a song opened.
(My midi local is switched of, that's not the solution)
The problem started (i think) installing the Mackie control for the DAW use as was suggested by the Roland manual
in Logic Pro X > Control Surfaces > setup...
Other than my remote control i now have Mackie controllers that i can not remove from the setup. Right click says 'delete' but
they are not deleted, the program even crashed once. Reinstalling Logic does not remove them either.
I read somewhere that there should be a 'controller rebuild'-command but that doesn't seem to exist.
And i have no idea why in the 'inspector', the host of the Mackie Control seems to be my I-pad (?)
I suspect that te problem is either some midi/usb driver conflict when used with Mavericks
or te use of the mackie controller conflicting with
the audio-bord of the yamaha mixing console MG 12XU (which seems to be working fine) or with the DAW controller of the FA 08
Audio/Midi setup of my computer seems to be installed correctly.
How can i uninstall this controller settings ?
Anyone has an idea why i get random noise generated?
Anyhow, it is impossible working with Logic this way..
    Please help..

In case you need to get back the default Logic control surface setup you can delete the Control Surface preference file and the default file will be rebuilt. It's a good way to get back to Logic's initial control surface setting. Also, if you had chosen to edit the Logic Remote CS entry instead of remove it there are adjustments that can be made, like disabling Active Sensing, or even disabling "Flash Mute and Solo Buttons" on the basic Control Surface Preferences pane.
Deleting the Logic 10 Control Surface Prefs.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences  in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Note: to get to the User-Library the tilde ~ has to be included.        ~/Library/Preferences

  • Firewire Audio Control Surface Recommendations?

I'm looking to add a Control Surface for working with audio in FCP and Soundtrack. Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation. I saw a demo with a Tascam 1082, but it kept creating the "Unexpectedly Quit" dialogue box in Soundtrack.
    Thanks,
    Derrell

I'm currently using the FW-1082; my thoughts? With FCP - other than setting it up - it's fairly straight forward. Though with other more audio sophisticated software, it takes a concerted effort to learn how to use it, since unlike an analog type mixer, each button serves many functions and there's no clear label (it's a lot like learning to type all over again), also the functionality changes depending on the app you use it with.
I currently use mine with FCP5 and Logic 7.1, in Logic, it rocks: but it's extremely complicated - though easier to sett up with the app (Logic recognizes it natively) ... in FCP, once you've got it recognized, it's easy, but it's really weired to get it working.
You seem to HAVE to have the mixer window open in order for it to function; which is really silly, that scroll wheel and transport controls are useful with just the video alone!
Anyway, so far, no bombs for me - but it wasn't easy figuring out that you must do all these things before it works as you get no clues since nothing happen until you complete all the steps, which are:
1 - Put the device into Mackie Emulation using the 1082 software
2 - go to the control surface menu in FCP5, add your 1082, but making certain you select the "control port" as the communcations channel, and Mackie Control Surface, or else it doesn't seem to work.
3 - make certain you have the audio mix window open (in the instructions, it seems as if it's just assumed that you've got the window open - I personally didn't care about mixing at the time, I just wanted to use the scroll wheel instead of that tiny gooby thing on my mighty mouse)
Anyway, that's where I'm at with it now - hopefully I can find a way to get rid of the mix window, and still be able to use the transport controls.

  • CME Control surface issues.

No matter what I do, even when I try and use the learn function, I still can't get the transports of the CME to control Logic. The only thing that the CME will control is the volume, all 8 sliders do the same thing, volume, but when I control Reason with the CME, stand alone, the transports on the CME work GREAT! Since I do use Logic and Reason through Rewire, it would be nice if I could do the same with the CME for Logic.

    Hi Moogy77,
The transport controls are controlled as key commands. You can assign buttons on your controller to trigger those commands. Check out the Logic Pro 8 Control Surfaces Support guide in the Help menu and on page 55 is a section titled Assigning Buttons to Key Commands. That is how you will get the transport controls working.
    Cheers

  • Recording Control Surface automation to a channel strip

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have a Novation Remote 25 SL which its perfectly connected with Logic as a Control Surface.
What I want is to record live all the moments i do with Mixer in Logic using Remote Sl as a Control Surface while my track is playing. I want to record it to one channel strip or somewhere were i can edit them later. Is it possible? Thanks in advance.

Read the automation section in the manual.
Basically - switch all channels you wish to automate into Latch mode to write automation. Put them back to read mode to avoid overwriting. Logic has full automation editing.

  • Using Logic Pro 9 and Tascam DM-4800.  Can't get the Tascam to work as a control surface via firewire...   any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!

The DM-4800 and Logic see each other, the firewire shows as 'locked' on both.   Can pass audio back and fourth, no automation from the Tascam though.   I know its either a midi setting or control surface settings...  but I'm stumped.   Newbie at Logic here.   Any ideas what to check?  Thanks in advance!

    Plug in the usb lead.

  • Logic 9 and Korg Kontrol 49 as a control surface

You have got to be kidding me. Logic's implementation a for the Korg Kontrol 49 is a joke.
Let's starts with the basic's. Mod Wheel does not work, sustain pedal does not work.
When I run Reason, the K-49 is a dream, everything works perfectly.
It has got to the point where I remove the K-49 driver from inside the Logic app, so I don't have to delete it from the control surface setup every time I start Logic.
If the Propellorheads can do it right so can Logic/Apple.

    Indeed.
Remove the control surface driver, and use LC Xmu instead. It's the absolute best way to use the Korg controllers with Logic, and has just about every feature you want/need.
