Loss of speed whilst on holiday

Hi, We went away whilst our kitchen was being refitted so the power was turned off whilst they did the electrics...before then the speed of connection was pretty static at 60mb (from the connection screen on HH5) but has now dropped to 52ish mb. I've tried leaving the hub turned off and disconnected over night but am still gettingt the lower speed, any ideas! Pasted the current info screen
Thanks

If you display the results here. remember to edit out your phone number.
Your speed should be between the high and low rates for your line.

Whilst on holiday I downloaded pictures and video from my digital camera to my ipad. everything was fine. The digital pics and video footage played great! i have just got back and synced my ipad with my macbook and the video clips have been put onto the macbook but not reinstalled on the ipad. I get a message to say that the video clips have not been loaded as the ipad cant play them! Why has this happened? As i deleted the original clips off the camera once they were originally loaded onto the ipad i have no way of reinstalling them. Wat can i do to get them back onto the ipad?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

  • Accidentally purchased roaming data whilst on holiday

    Hi,
I was browsing the data options whilst I am holiday in Spain and as I was scrolling through I accidentally pressed the buy button which is located incredibly close to the area I was scrolling at.
As there was no confirmation I wasn't able to cancel it before the purchase had gone through which is completely ridiculous considering it was £25 for 500mb that I don't even want or need!
Not to mention that the service for this data package out here is completely unusable anyway as simple Web pages can't even finish loading!
I'd like a refund if possible and the removal of the data from my account as I don't even want it!

Hi , Welcome to the EE Community. Funnily enough, I did exactly the same thing as you whilst on holiday in Spain (hope you're enjoying it)! Whilst I bought a cheaper package, I too was surprised at the lack of proper confirmation (I had somehow purchased it whilst my phone was in my pocket). I got onto EE via Twitter and spoke to their Live Chat team. I basically said I'm not looking for a refund, but suggested they add an additional layer of protection before allowing a purchase of over £10, which could be the CVV number on the card or the password linked to your EE account, or even clicking on a link in an SMS message.  I don't think they'll be able to refund this for you, but hopefully they'll begin to add measures to help prevent accidental purchases. If you have Twitter, you can try tweeting them @EE and they may be able to advise further. Good luck, and try and focus on enjoying your holiday!  Cheers,
    Titanium

  • Leaving hub on whilst on holiday

Is it best to leave the hub on whilst on holiday? I am going away for two weeks and don't want to disturb what now is a good stable connection (thanx to a new hub).

As john46 stated one can just switch off the power as an occasional disconnect is not significant.  However, a logical disconnect is what I use every day followed by power off, as it is interpreted correctly by the exchange as a deliberate action not a random event liable to upset the line status.    Enter the Homehub using your browser with 192.168.1.254 and click on disconnect button.    I have done this for some months now and my ADSL settings data still show little change, just the small, normal fluctuation - currently

Except your noise margin is 9.5. Normal is about 6. Your noise margin doesn't normally go up unless the exchange thinks you have an unstable connection.

  • Charging up whilst on holiday

how can i charge up my nano whilst on holiday
    or can't i.........

Via one of the many iPod chargers.
You can either purchase the Apple iPod charger or one of the many aftermarket 3rd party brands.
Or via a laptop (if you are the kind of person who takes their computer on holiday).

  • Loss of speed overnight

    HI everyone
Long time customer of BT, only had a few problems over that time but today seems to be another one of those days. Yesterday I had the maximum speed my line could provide, about 4.5mb. Today I turn my PC on to find I'm only getting about 700Kb/s according to the HomeHub 2. After waiting 3 hours for a download to finish, I tried to reset the router to see if it would kick the speed back up. Well it did but only up to 1.4mb according to the router now. It started as about 12 when I turned my PC on so I dont believe its because its a busy time of day.
I remember having a simular issue where my speed fell through the floor but its been fine since that time. I like to play my games online but I cant do that now when people are also using the internet.

Its rather confused me and to be honest I'm a little hacked off now. Any help would be most appreciated.

your noise margin is higher than normal at 10 as normal about 6 suggesting some noise.
if there is  still a hissing sound on your phone line that will have a detrimental effect on your broadband connection.
are you connected directly to the master or test socket or to an extension socket elsewhere in your home?
resets of your router trying to improve your connection are not good for your conenction and will result in a lower profile and therefore a lower download speed

Restarting the Homehub won't help, in fact it will make it worse.
When DLM sees a stable line is will remove the cap and your speed will return over the next 2 weeks.
The engineer who fixed your line should have reset the DLM.

Wondering how to proceed with Verizon, as you mention this only seems to occur during night-time hours, so it's a tricky issue to get support on.  For us it means very slow (1mbps or less) transfer speeds between our servers and the FIOS customer, which is unacceptable.

  • Buying iPad whilst on holiday in USA, any warranty/compatabilty problems?

    Hi,
I'm holidaying in Florida next week and am contemplating buying an iPad whilst there. Are there any issues regarding warranty/compatability issues I should be aware of to use it back in the UK. I have recently bought an iPhone 4, can that power adaptor be used or do I need to purchase another adaptor?
It would primarily be used on my home network so is it worth going for just the wifi version or the 3G one?
I suspect some of these questions have been asked before, I have searched for similar questions but would like to be completely sure before purchasing one.
    Many thanks in advance.

Whether you declare the iPad when entering the US or not has no relevance when returning to the UK. The fact that the iPad has a US power supply is easily solved by taking a UK iPhone power supply or buying a UK iPad one here and taking it with you. The iPad isn't going to say anything on the back about where it came from. The model number will be slightly different but customs aren't going to know that.
I'm not pandering the OP to do anything least of all break the law. Not declaring an item in customs is not breaking the law and is certainly not a chargeable offence. It's also not smuggling. It's also not a question of getting one over customs but just a question of going through the green light and not declaring it. If they want to stop someone, question them and charge them customs duties then that's another matter. In any case paying 20% customs charges is ridiculous and VAT/taxes are far too high here to begin with. Like I said it is a common practice and loads of people do it every day when going through customs. Let the OP decide whether he wants to take that chance or not.

  • G505s slow CPU speed whilst charging.

This is terrible, by using CPUz i can see that, whilst the laptop is charging, the clock speed drops down to 900mhz and fluctautes between that and 1400mhz, this is shocking, i can hardly watch youtube videos or even post this thread, the lag and slowness is unbearable. When running on battery power the CPU speed shoots up to 2500mhz and stays there,it never seems to go to its turbo speed either. Please lenovo fix this problem as soon as you can, whilst charging, the laptop is unusabe, i cannot do anything on it.

  • Loss of speed to broadband connection..Any advice?

    Hello
Wondering if i could grab some help /advice.
I have just come back from a short break and have noted that my internet connection has slowed from the normal 3.8mb connection down to around 0.5mb.
now having read a few posts in the forum i have noticed that my noise margin which is usually around 6db/6db down/up, is now reporting 28.3db/6db down/up.
i am assuming that this is the cause of my slower internet connection. When i first logged into my modem eariler today i noticed that the connection time was only 2.5 days., so i am assuming it has reset while i have been away.
I have since tried to reset my modem and it is still reporting the the same speeds.
Is there anything i can do to reset the margin or is it something that need to be carried out by some other BT type genius.
When i have had issues last year i did get some success from the call centres but this took ageeeeeess to resolve.
I have posted below details from my moden. Notice the connectiopn time is due to the reset i carried out.
Iam currently running a home hub 2 which is directly into my test socket. (and has been since i had issues last year)
Thanks in advance for any response.

I have an Airport Extreme that I purchased in 2004. In the fall of 2007 I moved into an apartment building, and connected it to a Comcast cable modem. My wireless download speed at that time (per SpeedTest) was over 12 Mbps. Over the last 3 years it has progressively slowed, and is now often less than 1 Mbps.
When I called Comcast they had me plug my laptop directly into their modem via ethernet. This produced over 20 Mbps. They suggested that my Airport was dying and that I should buy a new one, yet when I took my Airport to the Genius Bar they told me it was working as expected and that a new unit wouldn't do me any good.
Does anyone have experience with this, and/or know why I've had a 95% reduction in wireless speed even though the cable modem is putting out 20+ Mbps? My internet really has become quite cumbersome, but I don't want to spend $150 just to see if a new router will fix it.
    Thanks for all your help!

Here are some things to check.
Make sure the AirPort Extreme is as far away from any other electronic devices as possible. You may need to visit Best Buy to get a longer ethernet cable so that you can move the AirPort Extreme further away if needed.
Try to position the AirPort Extreme in a central location in your apartment/home, away from any outside walls where there will be more interference from other devices.
Locate the AirPort Extreme 4-6 feet up from the floor with plenty of free space around it. Think of it as a water sprinkler and you want to get the room as wet as possible.
If you have cordless phones, pick a time when you can turn them and the base stations all off for a few hours. Restart the network completely and keep an eye on things. If you notice improvement after an hour in your network speed, etc., you may have part of the answer. Look for phones that do not use the same 2.4 GHz frequency as most wireless networks.
It may not be your cordless phones. My neighbor...+across the street+...can literally bring my wireless to a crawl if he is in his front yard talking on his cordless phone. After weeks of trying to figure out why my network was dropping, I found this out by accident. I was at my desk in the office when I noticed my neighbor coming out of his front door talking on the phone and my wireless crashed at the same time. I might not ever have figured out the reason if it were not for this coincidence.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to do much about cordless phones at the neighbors or wireless security systems.
Try these tips out first and post back on your results. Next, we'll do a scan for other wireless networks to get an idea of the competition.
Finally, we'll review the advantages of using the newer 5 GHz band for wireless. There are very few networks using this band...for now. But, there are compromises that need to be understood before making a change to this frequency.
