Mail and Internet Connection conflict

I have a VPN PPTP connection running. Most of my other Mac internet apps run fine (Safari, Fetch), for that matter Mail can read new emails. The problem is that Mail won't send mail until I close the VPN connection. I figure this is a port conflict, Mail output and Internet Connection using the same ports, is there a way to change the port either is using? If so, any idea what I should change it to?

  • Transfer of the account --- I lost my e-mail and Internet connection

I wanted to transfer our residential DSL account that was under my husband's name to me. They told me that I could keep my old Verizone-mail account, but when they did the transfer, my e-mail account got disconnected. Moreover, presumably since I have the same e-mail address as my 'new' address, I can't seemto activate my internet. Now I've been without an e-mail and Internet for the last several days. I called the 1-800 number > 10 times, spent hours, and still no one fixed it. This is crazy!!! Can anyone help?

  • Iphone 5. cannot get mail. no internet connection available.

I have the iphone 5. My carrier is Sprint. I can get email only when connected to wi-fi. When no wi-fi is available I get a pop up message that says: cannot get mail. no internet connection available.
I am sure I am just missing a setting or something to correct this. Any ideas?
    Thank you!

I experienced this problem firsthand with a Sprint iPhone 5 about a month ago, telling me it had no internet connection and could not check my email (which was Gmail, set up through the native Mail app, using default settings). I can confirm that restarting the phone (holding home + power buttons until restart) temporarily fixed the problem but it quickly returned. Toggling Airplane mode did nothing. The problem did return within the same day after a period of time. I have since switched back to AT&T.
Interstingly, my sister had the same issue with her brand new Sprint iPhone 5 this week. She called Sprint and the customer service representative confirmed that this is a problem that only affects Sprint iPhone 5 users who use Gmail. The rep told her that it affects Gmail both in the native Mail app and also in the Gmail app, but web use still works (I haven't confirmed this). The rep also said that Sprint is aware of the problem and working on a fix that would be delivered in the form of a "software update" but there was no clarification if that was an iOS update or a Sprint carrier update.
That's all the info I have now, but if you're a Sprint iPhone user and experiencing this problem, please do call Sprint and let us know what you find out.

  • Failure of e-mail and internet after Vodafone "update"

Have had my phone (Curve 9300) since 2011 and it has been on Vodafone from the time I bought it. A phone call at the beginning of January and Vodafone talked me into an update of my service. As soon as the update was effected I couldn't get e-mail or connect to the internet. That was January, it is now March and I don't think I need to talk about the problems I have had to go through with their customer service!
The outcome at this time is that they say I need to buy a new phone. I have been into shops, had new chip issued, none of which helps me in any way. Before the update my phone worked properly and had done for years, after the update it doesn't work. In the last shop they put the chip into other phones and they got e-mail and internet, when returning same chip to my Blackberry no internet or e-mail.
I remain convinced this is a Vodafone issue with their upgrade. I have tried all the obvious fixes, looked through forums but am at my last stop now. Does anyone know of this issue, has anyone else had an issue with a Vodafone upgrade, is there anything more I can try?
Any support info most gratefully received.

The key is what did your carrier do?
Maybe they removed BIS from your line?  Maybe they messed up details on your account?
Question for carrier: Do you still have BIS on your line?   If not, they need to add it back.   If you have BIS on your line, is your account information correct so that the BIS should be in effect on your line?   If not, the carrier should correct the errors.   Then the carrier should resend service books and wait for you to confirm that they are received on your device.
Then setup your email again if necessary.

  • Client dns and internet connection

    Hi,
Running 10.5.5 Server with basic DNS for inter clients to access AFP/SMB and Wiki services via Open Directory. IP address is 192.168.1.10
Clients currently receive internet via DHCP from a router and Network preferences autofills DNS and search domains with router address 192.168.1.1 and RP614v4 respectively.
If I add the server IP and search domain, I can't see the server via DNS name unless I reverse the order in the fields (192.168.1.10 and ######.private). However this turns the internet connection to snail pace.
How can I get the DNS to work for both the internal server and internet connection?
    Thanks,
    Joel.

If your DNS server is running correctly, there's no reason why it should resolve any slower than the router. The fact you're mentioning it implies that the delay is significant so I'll guess that your clients are requesting an address from your server, but that's timing out so they're falling back to the router before proceeding.
You should check your DNS server to make sure it's set to be recursive (so it answers queries for non-local domains, too). That way the clients can get all lookups from your server and you should be good to go.

  • Video and Internet Connection

So I bought this brand new Macbook Pro only two months ago, and already I'm experiencing issues with the video and Internet Connection. When I try to watch video, it plays for a few minutes, then completely stops, though it is buffered and loaded completely. It never starts replaying unless i refresh it, but then it happens again and again. Then for the internet connection, when im opening websites and everything, suddenly the it says "Sorry you are not connected to the internet" then after a few moments, it works, but this is very annoying. Websites also load very slowly. Is there anything I can do?

How many lines do you have on your wifi "fan" up at the top right of your computer and how far are you from the router? sometimes things like that happen when I sit a little too far from our wifi hub. If I show a good set of bars I have good internet flow etc. if just a single bar or barely, it gets dodgy.

  • Where have my speaker volume and internet connection notification icons gone?

This morning two 'notification icons' (at bottom right of screen) vanished: speaker volume, and internet connection. How do I restore them?
I have Firefox 6.0.2 running on Windows Vista

Great, thanks you two, much appreciate the help. They only say it will be restored ASAP. Has this happened before and how long did it take to fix? Also, I'm in the UK so I assume its a global issue?

  • I have an iPad 2 and receive e-mail through internet connection. When I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear. Setting are for remove from server when moved from Inbox. Any idea what I can do to actually delete them?

I have an iPad 2 and receive e-mail through regular internet connection. Lately, when I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear, downloaded anew from the server and marked as unread. My e-mail Advanced Settings are selected for "Remove from server when moved from Inbox." Even when I access the e-mail accountfrom my desktop and delete the e-mails, the re-appear on my iPad. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and what I can do to actually delete them?

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.
You may find the following article also helpful for this issue which is the same resolution:

I recommend though that you ensure your Exchange 2003 servers are fully uninstalled or no longer present in your environment before you go deleting the Servers container though.. The following Microsoft article will help with this:

  • New FIOS customer with dropped VOIP calls and Internet connection

I am a new FIOS customer. Got my 50/25 connection a week ago, switching from a TWC 6/1 connection. Ever since the new connection, I've had numerous issues.
My VOIP (Ooma) connection constantly drops and re-connects during conversations
I've had random Internet connection losses, which picks up again after a few minutes
My home alarm starts chirping every once in a while
I've contacted Verizon several times due to these problems and have received varying answers with no resolution of the problem.
The first time I spoke with support, the tech logged into my router and changed the WiFi channel saying that would fix the problem. It didn’t.
The second time I contacted them, the tech ran a bunch of diagnostics and said everything looked fine so it must be an IP address conflict with my devices, because I had a couple devices using static IP addresses. He said everythinf should be DHCP and the last two digits could not be higher than 99 (192.168.1.99). He said FIOS does not support 3-digit numbers at the end.
So I changed all my devices to DHCP and ran some online VOIP tests. It showed a packet loss of 2-5% and MOS score of 1 (which is bad). I was still getting dropped connections, so I disconnected all devices and connected just one computer to the router and tested again. I was still getting packet loss.
Then I called support a third time, this time the tech said there were no 2-digit IP restrictions and that he was detecting there was no UPS baterry backup for the ONT which was probably causing the problem, so he dispatched a field tech to my house.
Today the field tech came (same guy as before), he took one look at the box and said it was too close to my Electric meter and the RF from the meter was causing interference to the FIOS connection and resulting in dropped connection.
He moved the ONT to another location and said that should fix it.
Well, I'm still seeing packet loss and low MOS score when I run the VOIP test.
I don't know how much of what the techs are saying is true and how much is made up stuff.
Has anyone had similar issues and have thoughts on solutions or likely causes for dropped VOIP calls and connections? Could RF be causing this?
I thought going from a 6/1 Cable connection to a 50/25 FIOS connection would be awesome, but this has turned out to be a nightmare, and I may have to switch back to cable if the problem is not resolved.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

Don't know where the packet loss is happening. I ran the VOIP test on myspeed.visualware.com and it shows a packet loss of 2-5% at different times and a MOS score of 1.
The report says MOS should be around 4 for good VOIP calls.
The Verizon tech who came to the house just blamed the electric meter box for RF interference and move the ONT farther away.
My concern is that I'm getting different answers from different techs at Verizon.
Regarding IP addresses. The Router shows a DHCP range from 192.162.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 as available for devices on the network. So, if I need to assign a static IP to a device should I use a number below 99 or above 151?
    Thanks!

  • AEBS and internet connection errors and dns errors.

    AEBS 7.3.2
It was running fine until I turned on my mybook one day like I had done several times before.
I received an error regarding a disk error with it. I could not find any problems though. But since then my AEBS has been having difficulty connecting to the internet. I can download via bit torrent, but not be able to surf the internet. I restart my internet connection, which involves turning off the power supply and restarting it, and I can surf the internet again. However, I receive a DNS server error, but everything seems to be fine, and I can surf the internet.
If I restart the AEBS it will not allow me to surf the internet, even though it says everything is fine. I can actually manage to go to google and do google searches, cant navigate away from there, but none the less new content. I have managed to download via Itunes and bit torrent but not surf to hot mail.com etc.
I know I can ignore it and the flashing amber light will go away, but that ignores the problem and doesn't fix anything. besides it still says I have an Internet connection error from day one. I dont't know why, and no ones been able to help with that.
    more info:
My isp uses a dynamic IP, so I have to use the automatic dhcp setting.
AEBS uses to go back to green light and automatically resolve the dns error, now not at all.
Please help, this is very frustrating.
    thanks

Bump, and of course I have set the message to ignore, which created a green light and now have 2 unresolved problem and internet works.
Still have the DNS server error, despite manually putting it in.
Still have internet connection error despite having a connection.
If I restart my airport extreme, the DNS message goes away, but does not allow me to access the internet through any web browser, but it works through one of my computers via bit torrent, but nothing else.
If I rest my internet connection I can access the internet, but recieve the DNS error. The internet connection error I have always had, for reasons unknown.
    Is the extreme broken?
I have done a factory reset on the airport and hard reset on the internet complete with the unplugging everything. My connection is stable according to my ISP, and I agree with them.
This seems to be a Airport extreme problem.

  • Why can't ichat, Mail and Skype connect to my ethernet cable?

I recently moved to Ireland and my internet here is provided by my school, it works with my studentnumber and password. So filling in the proxy of my school, as my network,  i can connect to the internet using Safari, iTunes and firefox. I just had to give in my student ID and password. But when I turn on Mail, Skype or iChat, they can't connect to the internet because there's no connection.
The applications are working just fine but they just can't connect to the intenet.
    Please help!

    Hi,
    Umm,  an interesting one.
    iChat
iChat up to an including iChat 5 in Snow Leopard has never like Proxies.
In fact if you did you them it did better when the System Preferences > Network listed the Proxy rather than the iChat App itself.
One thing I would try is to go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts and for Any AIM Login go to the Server settings and change the port to 443 and try Logging in.
The AIM server accept logins on almost any port.
Port 443 is used by Web Browsers for Secure site and Mail can sometimes use this port for some mail servers so it is likely to be an open port in any routing device there is place between you and the internet proper.
Google Talk Logins will also accept changing the port to 443
Other Logins such as plain Jabber Names do not allow different ports to be used.
However thses changes may at least allow you to Text chat.
    Skype.
if you go to the Preferences here it should list a port that the app would like to use.  (it tends to be different with different downloads)
Normally if it finds this port is not open in a router it uses Fall Back ports (Normally port 80 used for Web Browsing)
As it is not working it suggests the school are using some other method to prevent it.
    Mail.
Mail uses a whole host pof different ports normally based on what type of service you have and who with.
It is fairly common though for outgoing mail to be on port 25.
Incomming mail may be on port 110, 565, 996, 995 and quite a few others
However all these are below the port 1024 threshold  (most routers have ports upto this point opne for things like Web Browsing and Mail although on more sofisticated routers even these can be blocked.
I have one email account based on an old Dial-up service.
I can acces the Incoming server to retrieve mail via my current ISP but I need to be logged in via Dial-Up to use the outgoing server (Although Mail sends it out on Port 25 their end blocks accepting it as it is not coming from the right place).
Something similar may be happening for you with Mail and the Proxy with the services you are using.
    Things to do.
    1) Post in the Lion area about using Proxies.
Someone there is likely to know much more than I do.
    2) Talk to the School IT dept. about accessing email accounts using the Proxy.
They may not be deliberately blocking this but may not have given out the info needed.
    3) They may be blocking Skype for "security" or Bandwidth issues or even to stop students "Wasting Time".
iChat doing a Video chat is very bandwidth intensive and may be blocked because of that (as well as students using it during class).
You may find the school is unwilling to compromise on any of this.

  • 169.254 ip range and internet connection

    Hi,
I've got a iMac connected to a windows network.
The IP Range for this network is 169.254.92.x. (it's an historical setup, and i can't change it, due to all the PCs and windows servers...).
The imac can connect to internet via the router for a little time, but after some minutes, all the internet connections (mail, safari) stop working.
But, Internet Explorer in Parrallels Desktop is running well, which means that the network works fine.
Does Leopard don't work when it's network setup is set to a 169.254.X.X ip range?
Thanks for your answers (and sorry for my english )
    Bertrand.

    Bertrand POURCEL wrote:
Yes, all the network settings are done manually.
And no, it's not possible to install a new router with DHCP. There's 50 PCs and 3 Windows Servers over the network
It takes less than 30 seconds to update a Windows machine's IP from fixed to DHCP, and perhaps a minute to either reserve an IP or to set the DHCP pool to exclude certain IPs and then to set those IPs as fixed on the servers. You could be up and running using DHCP in under a half hour. The odds are excellent that you have already spent more time than that dealing with the current problem.
If you're running Vista, the steps are:
1 open Network and Sharing Center
2 click on 'View Status' of your network connection
    3 click on 'Properties'
    4 dismiss UAC pop-up
    5 double-click on 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties'
6 click on the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' radio button
    7 click OK
    You're done.
If you're running XP, the steps are:
    1 open Control Panels
    2 double-click Network Connections
3 right-click Local Area Connection and select 'Properties'
    4 double-click 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)'
5 click on the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' radio button
    6 click OK
    you're done.
Doing this 53 times may be tedious, but will not take a significant amount of time.
Most routers from Belkin, Netgear, Linksys, and Apple will allow you to reserve an IP for a specific machine. Required steps are:
1 get the MAC address of the machine in question, either from the command line or the status dialog; see above to see how to get to the status dialog. You can get the MAC address while setting up DHCP.
2 launch the router control HTML page (or, in the case of Apple, AirPort Utility) and go to the section of the admin page which sets reservations.
3 enter the MAC address for the desired machine. The system will reserve a particular IP just for that machine. It will never be handed out to any other machine.
    4 reboot the router
    you're done.
The only machines which need reserved IPs are the servers and the printers, so you need do this only for the three servers plus whatever printers you have.
Let me be explicit: if you keep using APIPA for your network range, you will continue to have problems. You can continue using APIPA for something it was not intended for, and continue having to patch things after the fact, or you can move to one of the private network ranges (probably a Class C, as you only have 53 nodes, not counting printers) and eliminate the problem at the source. If you insist on using APIPA, you will have to update the NAT, DNS, and DHCP lists yourself, on each new machine added to the network. And you will not know when there's a network connectivity problem as you will have fixed IPs which show an APIPA address as a normal setting, instead of DHCP-set IPs which show an APIPA address only when there is a problem.
It's your choice. I'd spend the half-hour, but that's me.

  • Dock and Internet Connection Problem

Since downloading some software updates recently, my computer has been behaving strangely. Most notably, I no longer have an internet connection on my Mac. My Mac is the computer connected to my wireless router and my other computers pick up the internet signal fine. Network Diagnostics show all aspects FAILED.
This all became apparent when I hit F12 to access my Dashboard. All of my widgets were INOP and then my Dock went dead--wouldn't pop up. I had to restart my computer to get my dock to show.
    Can anyone help?

Well after some troubleshooting, it looks like my network card may be the culprit. Does anyone know the cost of replacing one and/or where I can order one if it comes to that? Maybe it's just some settings (wishful thinking?). Can anyone help?
