Mail preferences don't stick or are changed without any user actions

Apple Mail keeps changing the settings of my IMAP account. I set the Mailbox Behavior options to certain values, and then - after few days - the settings are changed. It typically happens with the settings used to enable/disable the storing of draft and sent messages on the server. It seems it is a quite common issue.
Has anybody found a solution?

SAME.. i have one account i DONT want to NOT check mail automatically on otherwise i get double messages.
I can have both my macs open and check the same setting on both and know theyre set exactly the same (so i know its not .mac 'syncing' the prefs)
It will sit there open and be the same for an hour or so. then suddenly i start getting doubled up mail arriving, i check the prefs and lo and behold its changed to 'check automatically'
Arrrgh

adding backing vocals is a feature, I can't find them or how to do it.
The backing vocals are software instruments, listed in the "Choir" section of the software instrument browser. Afaik, the basic GarageBand does not have these instruments. My "choirs" all came with the JamPacks. The JamPacks are no longer sold separately, but if you buy Mainstage 2, you will get all Jam pack instruments and loops to be used with GararageBand; and it is not very expensive (~23 € at the AppStore).

Preferences don't stick

One biggest nightmares of using Safari in last year is suddenly prefrences don't stick -- ie number of pages want search, to use/ not use search query etc. The problem vanished after last upgrade, but has resurfaces yesterday -- not sure if coincidence, but I downloaded some update from Apple, can't rememeber what, security thing and something else.
Anyone have any idea how to lick this beast!
The "basics" have not worked....clearing cookies, cache, deleting pref. file -- it "seems" be in an internal thing with Safari, as it did go away on last upgrade to 4.0.3, I think, but is now back

Maybe there's an underlying issue. Have you checked the startup disk for errors lately?
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% free disk space*

Safari preferences are changed without my permission

Safari preferences for cookies are changed from "Third parties...etc" to "Never" without any action on my part and the very annoying "MacKeeper" program pops up all the time. I would like to be able to eliminate whatever is causing these pop ups.

Compression options changed without any warning.

Recently I went to export my latest artistry using quicktime conversion only to discover that the export options have completely changed without me ever doing anything to make them change. Now the Sorenson 3 scheme is missing from the menu and I have no clue why. It's a terrible thing since all of my Vj clips are in this format.
What do I do? How do I get it back? GRR! These are the types off things that make me wish I had become a farmer instead of a video producer.

Hmmmm. It is off. as far as I can tell. Looking at the software update window from the System Preferences menu. The check for updates is not selected. Yet I often get little windows prompting me to download updates. I always say no but my partenr always says yes. Is there some other hidden control panel for this option?

When dragging an iPhoto event to iDVD, the order in which the pictures appear changes without any apparent rhyme or reason. Any ideas on how to prevent that from happening?

When importing an iPhoto event into iDVD (iLife '11 versions of both) by dragging it from iPhoto to iDVD, the sequence of the photos is far different in the iDVD project than in the iPhoto event, without any apparent rhyme or reason for the change. Any way to avoid having to resort all the photos in iDVD?

Create an album from that Event and sort the photos the way you want. Then drag that album icon from the Media Browser in iDVD into the slideshow area. They will import in the order that's in the album.

System Preferences don't stick

Hi,
I can't change the screensaver, no matter what I choose, always Flurry will run.
Also, my mouse tracking preferences are forgotten after login out. It would seem that the System Prefs App is corrupted.
I tried reinstalling it with Pacifist with no results.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Mouse and Keyboard Preferences don't stick?

This is my first Mac - I'm happy as can be! It is a 24" iMac with the wireless keyboard and Mighty Mouse - I really enjoy using the buttons on the mouse to use Dashboard and Expose - but I'm finding that when I set the buttons to do these things in Keyboard and Mouse Preferences, they are constantly resetting to default? I have no idea why this might be happening?
I set the preferences - it works as expected for a few times and then, suddenly, when I press button 3 or 4 on the mouse, nothing happens. When I go into Settings to look, the buttons are back to default. I set them again, it works again, but soon enough ... back to nothing.
Anybody know why this is?

Mine started losing the Mouse button 3 and 4 settings this afternoon. It started right before I found the 10.5.2 Update. They both return to default "Button 3" and "Button 4" at no particular event. It may be related to entering the screensaver but I can't duplicate it reliably. It is just a random change.

Keyboard Modifier Preferences Don't Stick

I have a brand new i7 MBP 15". I use an external Microsoft wireless keyboard when at work along with external display and mouse. I set the modifier keys for the Microsoft keyboard to swap the option and command keys to work in a Mac-like way.
This set up has worked fine for years with a 2008 MBP 15". However, every time I unplug the Mac the modifier settings revert to the default.
I've tried deleting com.apple.keyboardtype.plist but this has no effect.
Anyone have any ideas?

Safari has changed without any warning.

I was using Safari and I noticed a few things:
-In my bookmarks bar, Google Maps was removed. I never bookmarked anything or removed anything from that bar.
-There's no option to empty my cache anymore.
-I'm now asked if I want to save passwords.
Can anyone explain what's happened?

Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Passwords
Safari > Preferences > AutoFill
Uncheck the box for "Usernames and passwords".
Google Maps.
It is in Bookmarks Bar > Misc.
Apple removed some features and moved some around.

Pasted images in an email message are changed

I have realized that randomically, during an email editing, if I past an image it changes without any my direct action.
The new image is always the same one, a pie chart illustrating bouncing percentages on websites.
No matter what image I'm inserting in my email, if it goes, the image is replaced with that pie chart. For clarity, it happens only to images pasted from clipboard into the body email text, not for attachments.
Updating Tunderbird or running various anti-virus programs did not resolve and the only think I can do is to check that the image is not changed before to press the send button.
I'm with Win 7 and Tunderbird 31.3.0
Any idea or advice?

I think MS Outlook offers more features than most people need and use, as does Word, etc., and your wife's somewhat limited use is probably pretty common. Also, I don't think that Outlook for Mac is the same program that Windows users get as it is constrained for Mac by the OS.
On my Windows machine, I admit to using only a few features that are useful to me, but I've come to appreciate Outlook's versatility and expect those functions in Mail. I especially like the Outlook calendar and the way it is integrated with the email, and the way attachments are handled. I don't like the separateness of Mail, Calendar, and Contacts. They don't even look like they go together. As a user of both platforms, I find Apple apps to be fairly rudimentary, compared to Windows programs. One's satisfaction depends on expectations from experience, or lack thereof, I think.
I'm not a fan of either platform, by the way. They both have good points and bad. I came to Apple because I like my iPhone and iPad, and I wanted better integration among devices. Also, I really like the display on my 27" desktop. I do think that Windows is more powerful and flexible, while Apple often seems to choose form over function, which is too bad. Apple can change that, though, and it should to meet the broader expectations of users who's experience is not limited to the feline OSs.
What I want and expect is customization in a feature rich OS, and apps that allow me to pick and choose among functions that I find useful and necessary, and not be limited to what a developer only thinks I need. Although there are things I really like about my Apple purchases, I think Apple has a way to go yet. But it's understandable why you disagree.

Problem with JPGs Downlaoded with Nikon Transfer - Can't Apply Develop Settings in Bridge CS4 and ACR 5.3 Settings Don't Stick

I have found what I believe is a "problem" with JPGs downloaded using Nikon Transfer (ver 1.4.1) and processing same in Adobe Bridge CS4 (Develop Settings) and/or Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 (Photoshop CS4 and Elements 6 as hosts).
Anyone using these programs in their workflow?
The problem, quite simply, is that neither ACR settings (nor Bridge CS4 Develop Settings) "stick" when applied to JPGs that have been downloaded via Nikon Transfer ver 1.4.1.
The same images from the same cameras (D300 and D90), downloaded moments later using Nikon's predecessor software PictureProject work just fine in both Bridge and ACR. Develop Settings appled in Bridge immediately are seen, and JPGs opened in ACR, and settings applied, then "Done" immediately stick and are reflected in Bridge.
If someone else is processing their JPGs in this manner, please let me know, as I have reported the problem to both Nikon and Adobe, and although I have tested it on two different cameras and two differnt laptops, I would like to get an impartial result as well.
One other test, the problem does not seem to affect Nikon's RAW (NEF) format files downloaded from a D2x using Nikon Transfer. More/different test are forthcoming.

Can't say one way or another on that statement about using manufacturers' software. Since Adobe has to interpret each camera models' RAW format having the latest ACR seems to be the best option. But if the manufacturers' software is more convenient, and you get the same results then use it. But it does appear you are not getting what you want, so suggest you try a duplicate test run with images straight from the card reader to Bridge and see if you still have same problems.
I do know it is widely recommended that using a quality card reader gives you more reliable data than getting the pictures straight from the camera. Does not seem intuitive, but that has been experience of many.

Any apps you purchased with the no-longer-existing ID will always have to be updated with the password to that account, you cannot merge account purchases.
To change to your new account go to Settings > Store > Apple ID: and put in the one you want to use.
