MEDIASOURCE WON'T UPD

SO I have the latest plays for sure update on my zen touch. The windows media player autos sync is terrible and freezes everytime. Ive currently just been dragging files on, but that is annoying. I want to go back to mediasource. I have version 2.03.04 mediasource installed right now. I DL'd the updates to 3.20.2 or whatever and when i double click it, it extracts everything, but when it goes to installshield it freezes...help!

mdemps990,
Does it do this on a clean boot of the system with no other software running? Including Antivirus?

  • Mediasource won't update ID3 tags!

"Mediasource won't update ID3 tags!? Please help! I have been using Mediasource 5 over the years to painstakingly get my mp3 library organized just the way I want it. I know that the Media Source track info is not necessarily the same as what's stored in the ID3 tag of the files themselves. I am trying to update the ID3 tags so that the info matches what is in Media Source. The good news is, I can right click on my database in CMS and there is an option to "Update Track Properties". Within this window are two options: one to update the ID3 tags to match MediaSource, and another to update MediaSource to match the ID3 tags.
So far so good, here's the problem. No matter which option you choose, it always does the latter of updating MediaSource to match the ID3 tags. ARGHH!! I've tried this over and over, trying both options, but no matter what I do, it's always copying in the wrong direction. That goodness I had backed up my database before doing it. I've tried both CMS 5.0.38 and the newer 5.20.23 but both have the same issue.
So is there any way to get Mediasource to take it's data and copy it over the ID3 tag data? Anyone know of a patch or other software that read the CMS database file and do this?

Under "Audio CD", check "Include CD Text"

    3) Would this CD text be able to be read by other people's Itunes?
CD-TEXT only allows capable audio players (portable CD players, certain car stereo CD players, etc.) to scroll that information across its display as the track is playing.
For other people's iTunes to be able to retrieve the track listing, it has to be first uploaded into Gracenote's database, once Gracenote processes the information.

  • ID3 tags won't upd

I have a Zen Micro and organise the downloads via WM0 because I find it easier to use than Creative's MediaSource software. This is generally fine but I've noticed that, even if I delete a track from the player, edit the tag info in WM0's Library feature and then download it again, the Zen Micro display often shows the old tag information. This is particularly annoying if I've sourced a track via a compilation (e.g. 'Sega Mega-Funk 2' or some such inanity) or if the artist is listed differently across two sources - e.g. 'Grandmaster Flash' and 'Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Fi've'. Has anyone got a solution to this problem?
    Thanks
    Joel

Strange. I can think of a couple of reasons why it might do this () the changes aren't being saved back into the file in the right way, so try a 3rd party tagging program instead of WMP0 and see if it works (2) the Zen's library is somehow remembering the data, but this seems very odd and I doubt it.

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............

In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.

    "Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

  • Mediasource won't display my music libr

Here's the deal: When I open Mediasource Organizer, there are three folders displayed: PC Library, Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra and My Computer.
When I click on the Nomad folder to access the Music Library on my player, a box opens that looks as if it is transferring info. It disappears within a second and nothing happens. Mediasource also closes.
When I restart Mediasource, only two of the folders show, NOT the Nomad one. This happens when the jukebox is on or off. Yes, I do have my USB cable connected.
I am running the current version of Mediasource, as well as the current firmware version. OS is Windows XP. The Zen Xtra is the 40g version. Any suggestions?

Torstein, I didn't try Windows Media Player, although I have v0, but remembered that I already have Notmad Explorer. I downloaded the latest version. When I went to use it (by first starting Notmad Manager in the system tray) I was told the device wasn't connected. But it was, because the device manager showed the USB Creative Nomad connection as being present and working correctly. I couldn't go any further, and don't see any reason to try Media Player. Something is wrong when my system recognizes the presence of the connection, but the programs don't recognize my player. I'm at a loss what to do.

  • MEDIASOURCE- won't burn a cd! Can't find a cd recorder device is fo

Hey, i just got a creative zen 20 gig installed the media source program fine. And i got to work fine it finds cds, rips them onto the computer and to the zen, but it when i try to burn a cd using the program it says it can't find a cd recording device, and when i go into the settings that whole section of selecting the cd writer is an option i can't fix or select any option.
i have NEC dvd+-RW ND-6500A dri've that works completely fine and can burn cds i proved this using NERO) the reason why i want it fixed is because it is easier to burn the recording i make straight to cd throught the zen than transferring to the computer and using a third party software like nero to burn the audio cd.
If anyone knows how i can fix this problem and select the dri've, or knows how to make the program idenify it that would be helpful.

    JUST_CHILLIN,
You may need to update the CDRW database of the MediaSource application. Go to the download page and do a search for this filename - CDBD_PCApp__00_05.exe
    Install this and update it.

    Hi,
Let's presume that you're using XP or Vista.
Try downloading this applet, Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer and the filename is CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe.
    Let's see if that hel

  • Zen Touch firmware won't upd

I just bought a Zen Touch 20GB today and want to upgrade the firmware from .00.06 to .0.03 I downloaded the installer and went about upgrading the firmware using the program. It starts the upgrade saying "upgrading in progress" but it doesn't progress past two shaded bars. This is after 5 minutes. Any ideas?Message Edited by eskiefan on 0-6-2005 2:59 AM

i think i know what the problem is. Ive just done it and it worked. Just one question on which usb port have u connected ur mp3 player? i am asking this as had connected it to usb2 card which is inside my laptop and i just changed to the normal usb ports at the back of my laptop and it worked.
Plus u have to get into the recover menu: press play button and at the same time reset button and u get to a different menu where u have the recovering firmware option.
    good luck

  • My PC won't recognize Zen Micro- please h

I have Windows 98 on an older PC, and am planning on buying a new computer later this year. I received the Zen Micro as a Xmas gift but am just now getting around to loading songs onto it (so my free service is expired). It's supposed to be Windows 98 compatible but the MediaSource won't recognize the player. I downloaded WMP series 9, and it will sometimes not recognize the Micro at all, sometimes recognize it but freeze up when I choose the device, sometimes freeze up when I try to open the Music folder within the Micro, and about in 20 attempts it will recognize the device perfectly and transfer mp3's (after having to be continuously rebooted). I have used my Zen Micro on other computers with Windows XP with no problems at all. Short of shelving my player for 6 mos until I get a new computer with XP or Longhorn, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. Although I didn't download new drivers, after speaking with the motherboard manufacturer I went and bought an external powered USB dri've. This didn't really help, so I tried buying a new USB PCI card. Now it works perfectly. I guess there's a problem with my old USB port. Anyway, the tip indirectly solved my problem so thanks.

  • Zen Micro defect with Firmware upd

    (Zen Micro version 2.00.2)
I updated my Zen Micro's firmware/drivers/applications the other day and now the player is not detected by creative media source organizer or zen micro media explorer - I have to transfer my songs through Real Player or WMP 0 now. Also, all the song lengths have changed to 8:2:5 long.
I had another problem even before the update - after the player is unlocked, the back arrow does not respond well. It would go to the tracklist then back to now playing. I have to go to the bottom right corner button and "lookup artist" then press back to go back to where I was before I locked it. I don't know if that's just the way the player is designed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

MediaSource won't work with the 2.00.2 firmware. Best to only upgrade if you are sure you want to use only WMP0.

  • Enhanced cd won't rip to my zen touch

i have an enhanced cd, a real copy from HMV it is Gang Starr - The Ownerz, it has videos on it and MediaSource won't rip it to my pc or Zen Touch, Media Player won't rip it either.
    help!!
how do i make it rip?

EAC or AudioGrabber (google the obvious)
Both are lame front ends so you will end up with better quality encodes as a result of your efforts.

  • Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.

  • Changing the order of playli

I am using Creative Mediasource Organizer and a Zen Micro. I can drag songs into a playlist and everything will work fine, apart from Mediasource won't let me move songs around into a different order. All the instructions that I can find on the subject say I should be able to do this. Is there a setting or something that I can do to change this?

Are you refering to playlist in MediaSources PC Music Library or playlist in your MP3 player? Can't you simply use drag and drop to re-arrange the order of the tracks in the playlist?
    Have you:
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
    - (Depending on your product and firmware) For non-PlaysForSure Zen series: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.or:For PlaysForSure Zen Micro: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) from your product download site.

  • My computer doesn't detect my Vision M 30

It started with my player working however the screen was scrambled. I couldn't read anything. So I did the clean-up, format and reset the firmware but now my Vision M turns on and says there is a firmware problem and it says to reload the firmware. The screen is also still scrambled. So I hook it up to my computer but it doesn't detect it. Where is this firmware and How do I get the firmware on my player when my computer doesn't detect it's? I'm lost and don't want to send it in, if I don't have to. Please help!

When you "reset" the firmware, you actually erased it. You can download the firmware from the Creative downloads page. You should check Windows Device Manager to confirm that it is connected, as the Creative programs, like MediaSource won't detect the player if it hasn't booted to an operational mode. As for the screen, something has probably gone bad in either the screen or the main logic board sending the image to the screen, but of course that also brings up the question as to how you were able to read the "Firmware Problem" message.

  • Zen Xtra with Zen

I recently bought a Zen V 4G and have a Jukebox Zen Xtra 40G. When I installed the software for the Zen V, the computer doesn't recognize the Xtra. Any thoughts?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your elaborate answer!
    However, the problem persists.
I don't get a notification to connect my player during the driver set up, however when I break off the set up forcefully (ctrl alt del) I do get the message that the system is waiting for my response. I guess that's the dialogue box asking me to connect my player.
I just can't find that dialogue box anywhere.
If I hook up my player anyway, Windows starts installing the driver and mentions that the Zen Xtra is now ready for use. However, it doesn't turn up as an external disk or something like that. And Mediasource won't install either because it keeps mentioning that it hasn't found any supporting devices.
Have you had this experience as well?
    Kind regards,

Did you read the blog of the link I posted to you? Have you tried? installing? just the Creative Nomad Explorer? http://support.creative.com/download...ownloadId=8069 without installing MediaSource? I can't really say if it will work without MediaSource since I do have that installed on my Vista machine but you could try it. I only use that program to load my player. I do not use MediaSource5 to load the older player as since I have the PFS plug-in loaded on there & because of that MediaSource does not see the Zen NX. Of course create a Restore point on just computer before doing these things. Let us know how it goes.
