Memory speed after upgrade

I recently bought an 11,3 iMac with the Core i7 2,93Ghz CPU and 4GB of RAM.
The system profiler reported the RAM working at 1333MHz which is right.
I then bought another 2x2GB modules with the same specifications (DDR3 1333MHz), but after installing the memory, the System Profiler reports all RAM modules working at 1067MHz.
Did anyone else experience this or could it be that System Profiler is just reporting the wrong speed?
How can I be sure of what is really happening?
Thanks in advance.

Update:
I tried to boot the system with the new modules installed only. System Profiler reported 1067 MHz for both. PRAM resetting did not make a difference.
I then put back the original ones and everything was back to normal.
I guess they just mislabeled the new RAM modules and they are indeed 1067 Mhz forcing the other modules to work at the same speed...
Trying to work this out with the vendor (Global Memory UK). Meanwhile, already ordered a new pair from Crucial.

  • Has anyone seen a DRASTIC change in speed after upgrading to 5.7?

Has anyone seen a DRASTIC change in speed after upgrading to 5.7? Just the simple task of copying photos now takes FOREVER. Importing iphoto for just two years of photos (my smallest iphoto library by far) took A WEEK. I did not have access to Lightroom for a week. I thought it was just going to be the iphoto import, but now my regular import is taking almost 1/2 an hour and only 22 photos into the import.

Oh no! I think I might be experiencing the same problem, oddly with almost exactly the same time to import from iPhoto, just shy of 7 days...
I also posted this problem to the form and am actually on the phone with Adobe support right now. I have an iPhoto library of ~15,000 photos and I didn't expect it to be very fast, but it's taking an average of at least 40 seconds per photo to import, and it has kept complete focus of LR so I can't even confirm that it isn't importing duplicates. By my calculations it should take over 166 hours to complete the import! Something has to be wrong here. I've been going for over 48 hours and am scared to stop the import if this really is normal performance.
Are normal import tasks also slow for you now? Can you share any more details? I can't test myself yet since the iPhoto import is still churning, but it could help troubleshooting with support. I'll let you know if they come back with anything, I'm on hold now.

"This works for me" is a little vague.  What worked for me specifically was to start with your link and drill down two levels of links to this webpage, http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/7932.html, which explained what the problem is and that the workaround is to add acpi_enforce_resources=lax to the kernel command line in /boot/grub/menu.lst.
Someone who understands this issue better than I do should probably amend the appropriate sections of the wiki (lm_sensors, fancontrol, et al).

  • Out of Memory error after upgrading to Reader X

We have several PDF documents that work fine on Reader 9.  But after upgrading to Reader X, the files will not open.  Instead, they report an Out Of Memory error and a blank document opens instead.  Removing Reader X and re-installing Reader 9 corrects the issue. This has been reproduced on 3 different PCs running both Windows XP and Windows 7.
    Any suggestions?

Just to throw in my 2 cents... Adobe has known about the out of memory bug at least since 01/12/2011 because that is when I reported the problem to them.  I even had an escalated support case #181995624 and bug#2800823.  Our problem comes from a EFI Fiery E7000 attached to our Lanier LD460c Copier.  Any pdf's made from that copier will not open in Acrobat X, although they will open in lower versions of Acrobat just fine.  Our only workaround is to keep Acrrobat 9 on office computers, or you can open the offending pdf in Acrobat 9 or earlier and print it to pdf, and then it will open in Acrobat X!!!  They acknowledged that this was a bug, see my email chain below.  This was the last update I received from Adobe, very frustrating...

The EFI Fiery E-7000 Controller version is 1.2.0 and it handles the scanning and printing functionality of our Lanier LD160c copier.  I have attached two sample files.  One is a 1 page scan from our copier.  The other is a combined pdf that I just created in Acrobat 9.  The first two pages of the combined pdf consists of a webpage that I printed using Acrobat 9 and then the scan from the copier is on the 3rd page.  In Acrobat X, once you get to the 3rd page you will receive the Out of Memory error.  It will open in previous versions of Acrobat just fine though.

It is a walk up copier and we scan to email.  The EFI Fiery controller E7000 handles pdf conversion for the copier, but yes it has the latest firmware.  The bottom line is that we have 3 or 4 years worth of pdfs created from that copier rendered useless by Acrobat X.  They open fine in previous versions of Acrobat.  Did you get the test pdf file when this case was created?

  • Extremely high memory usage after upgrading to Firefox 12

After I upgraded to Firefox 12, I began frequently experiencing Firefox memory usage ballooning extremely high (2-3GB after a few minutes of light browsing). Sometimes it will drop back down to a more reasonable level (a few hundred MB), sometimes it hangs (presumably while trying to garbage collect everything), and sometimes it crashes. Usually the crashing thread cannot be determined, but when it can be, it is in the garbage collection code ( [https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/list?signature=js%3A%3Agc%3A%3AMarkChildren%28JSTracer*%2C+js%3A%3Atypes%3A%3ATypeObject*%29] ).
I was able to capture an about:memory report when Firefox had gotten to about 1.5 GB and have attached an image.
A couple of things I've tried. I have lots of tabs open (though the Don't load tabs until selected option is enabled), so I copied my profile, kept all my extensions enabled, but closed all my tabs. I then left a page open to http://news.google.com/ and it ran fine for several days, whereas my original profile crashes multiple times a day.
I also tried disabling most of my extensions, leaving the following extensions that I refuse to browse without:
    Adblock Plus
    BetterPrivacy
    NoScript
    PasswordMaker
    Perspectives
    Priv3
However, the problem still happened in that case.
Don't know if any of this helps or not. I'm looking forward to trying Firefox 13 when it comes out.

hello, thanks for reporting back with detailed information.
from a brief look at your extensions i don't recognize any known (to me at least) memory leaking ones. in the last weeks there were also reports about the java plugin causing high memory consumption in combination with firefox 12 - in case you have it installed in firefox > addons > plugins try disabling it for a few days & test how firefox is behaving with many tabs.
& although probably not related to the memory problems you could update your graphics driver to get better results with hardware acceleration in firefox - this is the latest driver by intel for your model & os:

  • Huge memory leaks after upgrading from kernel 2.6.38(?)

My system began leaking memory some months ago and I've little to no idea what is causing it. The closest hint I can give is that I think these problems started around upgrading from Linux 2.6.38 to 2.6.39 and have continued with 3.0 aswell. Sometimes my whole system freezes due to extensive swapping (HDD usage led stays lit), sometimes it stops after consuming almost all of my 4 GB RAM.
I think the leak has to come from inside the kernel because all sysmon apps claim no application is eating too much RAM yet the system memory consumption is at 100 % or even using swap. Even after I kill Xorg the memory usage will stay at least at 2.0 GB, when it should be less than half a gig.
I'd like to guess the blame is on Nouveau, because it was giving me a hell of a time back with Linux 2.6.39. It had a habit of freezing my system when re-enabling suspended compositing (both with Kwin and Mutter). Also video playback was corrupted sometimes. These probs have since been fixed with Linux 3.0.
I cannot name any spesific app that might trigger this memory leaking. I don't play any games and mainly use Firefox, Chromium and VLC day in, day out.
There seems to be absolutely no way of reclaiming the reserved memory than rebooting the whole system. I have even tried unloading Nouveau.
I am currently running the [testing] repo with ~daily upgrades.

OK, this kind of surprised me. No wonder I couldn't find any relevant stuff while googling for kernel issues. I have had Strigi disabled for some time now because it is miserably broken, but I now disabled the whole Nepomuk too. Let's see if my problem now goes away or what...
The release of KDE 4.7 Beta 1 actually lines up with the launch of Linux 2.6.39 so this really might be the case. I moved to KDE 4.7 already with the first beta.

  • Memory leak after upgrading to ColdFusion 10

We recently upgraded from CF8 to CF10 and we're running into some issues.  We started off getting a lot of OutOfMemory errors with the default heap settings. Chaning them to 768MB/1280MB which has helped, but we're still running into occasional OOM issues.  We took a heapdump as the instance was having problems today with blocked threads and noticed the heap usage was near the max so it was probably going to run out of memory soon too.  Below is what the eclipse memory analyzer tool found as a possible leak suspect.  Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here?  Not sure if it's an issue with CF itself or something in the app.  Thanks

    Hi Sharma,
Here's the settings summary from the console.  The OOM issue is now happening about 1-2 times weekly after increasing the heap size.  Before that it was almost daily.  It seems we can go about 75-85 hours before we restart due to either OOM or blocked threads.

  • Awful download speeds after upgrade to OS X Lion

    Good evening all Mac-users!
I have searched the forum for an answer but as far as I can see the only problem that's in common with mine occurs on iPad's. However, I have a MacBook that I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion, everything works fine except one thing, the download speeds.
After the installation of Lion my download speeds (from everything, torrents, ipsw's, music etc) is around 1/50 of it's original speed. It's not the network cause other computers that's connected to the same network works without problem.
What could it be? Does Lion have a firewall or something that block the downloads?
    Thank you in advance everyone!

Sorry about that. I misunderstood the notation "~/Library" to mean the Library at the root of the hard drive. There is indeed an iWeb Domain in "Users/Trixi/Library/Application Support/iWeb". The iWeb Domain appears to be intact being 175MB. It shows a status of Last Opened/Modified: Today @ 10:47 which is when all this started.
However, nothing else had changed from my original post - iWeb did not function. All its menu choices were greyed out. When I selected "Hide Others" all open windows disappeared and iWeb was active but with no window at all.
As you pointed out, I was misreading folder locations. So, while writing this reply, I thought I'd double check another action I'd tried. It was posted by kt4ever under "iWeb and Lion problems" here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3233238
and - it worked! My Domain is back, just as I'd left it. I only performed the following subset though:
Go to Users/home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist and drag file to trash.
    Also delete com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile.
    Empty trash.
    Open iweb.

  • Why do I get an I/O error when using LabView 5.1.1 ViMove Out 8.vi in A24 memory space after upgrading to NI-VXI 3.2?

Following an upgrade from NI_VXI 2.2 to 3.2, a VI which contained VISA Move Out 8.vi to load waveform data to a VXI WaveTek 1396 Arbitrary Waveform Generator using A24 memory space. The error coming back is -1073807298   VI_ERROR_IO and I have A24 Memory Space defined in MAX.

    HTE Guy:
You might try disabling DMA. You can do this either in MAX or programmatically using viSetAttribute to set VI_ATTR_DMA_ALLOW_EN to VI_FALSE.
We have an idea of what the problem might be (due to the limited number of places this error occurs in the code) but we can't reproduce it internally. What OS and what VXI controller are you using? If disabling DMA doesn't help, you might want to contact NI tech support directly.
    Good luck,

  • Fans Run Full Speed After Upgrades

I have a late 2007 15" Macbook Pro. I just recently replaced the hard drive (because i needed more space) and the keyboard (because it was defective) and since i've put it back together the fans are always running at full speed. I do have an smc control app but the adjustments i make are not affecting the fan speed at all. Does anyone know what I might have done wrong to cause this? and is it something I can fix?

I've checked all the connections and I don't appear to see anything loose, or any crimped or cut wires. Someone though it might be that the new hard drive I put in runs at a higher rpm (7200) than the original 5400rpm drive, but that was ruled out after placing the original drive back in. At this point it looks like I may be replacing this laptop if I can't get this issue resolved.

  • CPU temperature increases considerably as well as fan speed after upgrading to 10.7.4

I'm running an 8,1 MacBook Pro and just upgraded to 10.7.4. While idle, my CPU temperature now stands at around 180 degrees Fahrenheit and my fan runs at 4000+ rpm. Is anyone else having these issues? How should I try to fix?

    Start here:
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used
How much green? under 1/6 pie?
    How many pageouts?
When you are comfortable with that information switch to this view:
Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime
What is the biggest CPU User, and how much is it using?

  • Memory speed after update BIOS

    Hello,
I update my BIOS today and I don't have sure that my RAM memory works propertly.
When I run CPU-Z in "SPD" tab I see that my RAM works with 533Mhz.
There should be maybe 677Mhz ?
    Sorry for my bad English.

    That's the problem, I don't.
So, someone can download and run CPU-Z and check yours worth of DRAM Frequency (in memory bookmark) or in SPD bookmark. There should be write in Max Bandwidth (533Mhz for example)
    Look at this photo http://www.notebookcheck.pl/uploads/pics/CPU_NB550D_5_03.jpg
    I have Kingston RAM 4GB 1066Mhz. (KVR1066D3S7/4G)

  • My ipod touch getting much slower after upgrade to ISO 5.1.1

my ipod touch getting much slower after upgrade to ISO 5.1.1
could it be downgrade? or how to solve this problem.....

I checked settings-->general-->about-->diagnostics & usage --> diagoostics & usage data, finding that almost every time I use the ipod touch, it sufferred the low memory issue after upgrading to ISO 5.1.1
will ISO 6 help? or will it get the ipod slower even than ISO5.1.1.1?

  • I don't understand my EtreCheck report. What can I do to improve the speed of my Macbook 2010, which became very slow after upgrading to Yosemite?

I just updated my Macbook (2010) to Yosemite, and it's become very slow. After searching through this community, I downloaded and run EtreCheck, but don't understand what the report means. Please could you help me with what I should do to improve my computer's speed, aside from upgrading my RAM? Thank you so much.

I advise to reply to the one you want to reply to.
You have had good information here. I will not repeat that here.
    I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

  • IMac is running slow again after upgrading Memory to 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  Mail is especially slow.  I have searched the community info, but I am really a novice and most of the solutions appear to be beyond my level of proficiency. Please help!

I am at a loss. even after reading other questions and responses.  After upgrading to Mt. Lion, everything on my iMac slowed down.  I knew more memory would be needed, so I went from 2G to 6G.  That worked for awhile, but now, about 3 weeks later, things are slowing down again.  Mail is especially slow, when moving from one message to another, and also just plain typing is delayed in mail.  iPhoto has had the spinning wheel issue since change to Mt. Lion, but it eventually stops and the app itself is functional, so this is just annoying as much as anything.
Any easy, simple to follow instructions would be appreciated.  Is it better for a novice to take to the Genius Bar or to an approved Mac repair center in my area, rather than attempt some of the solutions I've seen offered here.  And, if I do, what's the likelihood the issues will be resolvable?? Clearly, I am not the only one with this issue ...
Thanks for any help you can offer.

There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.
