Microsoft mouse compatibility

two months ago i bought el cheapo microsoft mouse ($18) at staples. two buttons w/wheel.
works fine, except that when we "wake up" the mac, SOMETIMES the mouse cursor isn't on the screen.
we have to unplug the mouse USB cable from the keyboard, plug it in again (doesn't matter which USB port we use) and then the mouse cursor shows up.
this problem only happens sometimes, but it's a regular thing.
i have tried shutting down the mac, rebooting. the problem persists.
this began happening after i went to OS 10.4.5, and AFTER i got that new mouse.
help, ayone?

newtothemacworld:i gather you are confident i have diskutility somewhere.Disk Utility installs with the OS from the install disk. It is not an optional install, and that means that whenever one uses the install disk to install Panther or Tiger, Disk Utilities is installed with the rest of the OS. So, unless it were deleted, either unintentionally or intentionally, it will be in the Utilities Folder within the Applications Folder.i wonder why the apple support docs i looked over (all 70 of them) seemed to suggest that a user needs to load original install disk to access diskutility. One can access Disk Utility on the install disk, and, if all else fails, that would be fine to go that route. However, it is installed with the System and when you Repair Disk Permissions with the installed version of DU it repairs the latest permission on the disk.
Now try to find DU using the method Barry suggested. Click on the desktop. Now go up to the menu bar and go to the Go Menu. Pull down and see if you see Disk Utility there. It should be in the lower half of the pulled down menu.
Good luck, penpal.

  • Audition CS5.5 is not working well with Microsoft Mouse "smooth scrolling" feature

    Hi,
I'm testing with the Audition CS5.5 and found that the mouse scrolling (I use it mainly for zoom, zooming in and out to see the waveform) is just not working well and sluggish, and finally I figured out it somewhat related to the "smooth scrolling" of Microsoft Mouse. Anyone with the same problem? In fact the scrolling is working very well for Audition 3.0.1, I don't know why it fail for CS5.5.
    Best regards,
    Steve

The trial version is the same as the full version except
    for the 30 day limitation.
I think on windows xp you need sp3 for cs5 to work as expected.
Anyway that's what is says here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshopextended/systemreqs/
That may not be the problem, but it's a good place to start.
Also it's not a good idea to post your email on the forums.

  • Stop reverse scrolling with microsoft mouse

Please accept my apologies if this question has already been asked and answered.  I searched but could not find the answer in this forum.  I recently purchased a Mac Mini computer running Lion OS.  I use a microsoft mouse and keyboard that came complete with drivers for the MAC.  I am experiencing two intermittent problems relating to mouse action and cursor.
    1.  The first problem is with reverse scrolling.  Somehow, and I can't recall how, I managed to disable reverse scrolling.  However, intermittently my computer reverts to reverse scrolling.  Often I am able to fix the problem by rebooting the Mac.  On other occassions this does not work.  I have researched the issue online and have read the articles about turning off reverse scrolling in the mouse and track pad sections of System Preferences.  However, this option is not available presented when I access these windows.
    2.  The second problem deals with cursor size.  I use my mac mini a a media center connected to my TV.  To make the navigation easier I have made the cursor as large as possilbe using System Preferences - Universal Access - Mouse Tab.  However, frequently the cursor reverts back to the minimum size on its own.  When I access the appropriate section of System Preferences I note that, according to my configuration, the cursor should be maximized.  I can re-establish the maximum size my making the cursor smaller and then making it bigger or conversely by rebooting the Mac.
Any assistance on these two matters would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Wayne

I have issue #1 randomly reversing scrolling direction, what is wrong? My system Mac Mini with Microsoft Mouse / Keyboard.

  • Remove microsoft office compatibility pack 2007

We have upgraded all clients to Office 2010 so there is not need for microsoft office compatibility pack 2007 so I want to remove it.  The compatibility pack was pushed via GPO.  I was removed from GPO but "let user continue to use" was selected.
Now when trying to remove it using msiexec /qn /x{90120000-0020-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} on almost all pcs I am getting a failure and it is not uninstalling.  MSIEXEC error code it 1605.Jason

    I haven't any HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
    But I found the key
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\000021090200A0C00000000000F01FEC\InstallProperties
    with values
DisplayName     = Paquete de compatibilidad para 2007 Office system  (same product in Spanish)
    UninstallString  = MsiExec.exe /X{90120000-0020-0C0A-0000-0000000FF1CE}
There is a little change in the GUI, may be related to SP3 for Compatibility Pack, which is installed. That UnistallString worked for me.
In a startup script it must include "/qn" as there is no user interaction. I.e.
    msiexec /qn /x {90120000-0020-0C0A-0000-0000000FF1CE}
Yes, I do know: this thread is a year old. But may be this post help somebody :-)

  • Microsoft Mouse - Just Want to Lose that "Connection Lost" error message!

I'm using a Microsoft Mouse 5000 with a 2006 MacBook (latest version of Leopard).
My MacBook is used as a home theater system and I use the mouse while sitting on the couch, which is maybe 15 feet away from the MacBook (I would have thought I was easily within the 30 foot bluetooth range?)
Issue is that the mouse frequently drops the bluetooth connection - then picks it up again seconds later. Note that the mouse remains paired, no issue there.
Anyway, the dropped connection is not so much the problem - it's the darned error message! It is SO annoying to have the "connection lost" message and mouse symbol appear in the middle of the screen while I'm watching a movie!
    Questions:
    a) any suggestions for improving my connectivity? I believe my firmware is up to date (I can't see any updates on the Apple support site since version 1.2 in 2004).
    b) if the answer to a) is no, anyone advise if I can disable that error message from appearing? As I said, it's superfluous anyway since the connection resumes seconds later
    Thanks!
    SM

  • Mouse Acceleration Problem (Whats a good microsoft mouse)

Yes, I have noticed that the acceleration curve on the mac is way off. I've grown up using pc, so Im used to how smooth and easy it is to use the mouse. I don't really like the way the mouse works on the mac, though I like the look and stuff. I really like Macs, but i just don't like the way the mouse moves. You can even search and you'll find other people facing the same problem:
    http://db.tidbits.com/article/8893
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8165678
I read in that other thread that you can get a Microsoft mouse and that Microsoft actually created another drive for Mac (intellipoint) that replaces the Mac drive for the mouse so you can have more preferences to change and the movement will be more "PC" like. So since Im deciding to get a microsoft mouse, whats a good mouse from them? I don't really like the mighty mouse because the shape makes my wrist sore, I mean it looks nice, but it doesn't feel right. So yeah, whats a great microsoft mouse?

    Hi,
I have three Microsoft 'mice' a really old wired model that proabably isn't being made anymore but it was good. I also have a Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and a Wireless Noteboook Laser Mouse 6000 (USB Dongle) - all worked using the Intellipoint drivers and the software was easy to install and allowed good customisation. It might be me but the Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse looses its connection every 15 minutes or so for a minute or so and is hard to wake up from sleep so I only use it when I'm doing FCE work. The USB mouse works flawlessly, but because I am using it on a laptop, the dongle is a bit of a hassle so I have gone back to the Apple Bluetooth mighty mouse. Don't get me wrong the Wireless 6000 is a great mouse just not practical of my purposes. The Apple mouse works well and is very reliable, it just needs a back button.

  • Microsoft mouse not found

The wheel failed on my old Microsoft 4000 mouse, so I got a new one. Old one worked fine with Microsoft Mouse software. New one, I plug in the little USB dongle, turn on the mouse, and the pref pane reports "No Microsoft mouse devices found". I've tried every combination of reinstalling and what have you, and still it won't be seen. Any advice?

OK, I gave up and, after spotting this somewhere else, installed USB Overdrive. This did exactly what I wanted.
Which, I should have explained better to begin with, was to have the buttons on my mouse mapped for use.
The mouse did work in basic mode with the "Mouse" pane of Sys Prefs, but what I couldn't do was to have the "Microsoft Mouse" software see the mouse, and therefore allow me to map the buttons. Despite, as I said, all the combinations of uninstalling and reinstalling the MS software I could think of.
Anyway, as I say, I gave up, because the delightfully simple yet effective USB Overdrive has done the trick. I booted MS Mouse into touch. Quite why it worked perfectly well with my previous (identical) mouse is a mystery.
Thanks Illaass for at least offering help.

  • Microsoft Visio Compatibility Pack?

I need to install Microsoft Visio Compatibility Pack which would allow me to view Visio 2013 file format in Visio 2010.
    I have found this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39640
According to System Requirements, this software can be installed in XP.  But when I run the setup, I got this:
So, what is the solution to open Visio 2013 files in Visio 2010 (implying in XP, of course)?
    Thanks

Please upgrade the latest update and run the setup again.
I have done so already.  But that didn't make my Visio 2010 (viewer) to open VSDX files.
    For the article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2844302/en-us
It says that Only Windows 7 or later versions of Windows
    support the Visio Compatibility Pack.
Then the problem is the description in
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39640
Look at the image below that I captured from that page:

  • Mouse Compatability

I recently bought a Mac Mini and I am using the wireless Keyboard and Mouse that I used with my old HP windows laptop. When I am in the Mail system the mouse does strange things such as rendome doubel cilcking when I am deleting old messages using the dustbin icon. When I try and move e-mail from folder to folder the task is almnost impossible as the mouse seems to have no control whatsoever.
Could it be that the mouse is not compatable?
    Thanks for any advise
    Dave

I've learned over the years that Macs are particular about mice, keyboards and webcams. There are a lot more "universal" mice these days, but companies like Logitech still make "Mac only" mice, and it's better to use them.
I've had good luck with the occasional Dynex "universal" mouse, but Microsoft mice are nothing but trouble with a Mac.
Right now I have a Magic Mouse AND a logitech Trackpad (both BlueTooth). I'd recommend either.

  • A730 keyboard and mouse compatibility with other machines

I would like to have a USB keyboard mouse with the machine.  Unfortunately there is not an option for that with this machine.  I would like to sell the k/m that comes with the machine.
What machines including ones not made my Lenovo would the k/m be compatible with?
According to the Lenovo support page for the drivers for this k/m the drivers are compatable with various Lenovo machines.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031648
Does that mean the k/m are compatable with those machines?
Is a certain piece of hardware other than the k/b required for it to work?  If so, is that piece of hardware available after market?
Machine Type: M90z AIO ; Product: 3091CTO (Custom), CPU: i5-650, Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics, Memory: 4.00 GB,
Network Card: Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN, OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Thank you Assaf for taking the time to install the game to check to see if you got a similar problem
honestly i'm not sure its my 865PE Neo2 LS or not,it may be a software issue. I'm just guessing because that was a the biggest change in my system before I started to experiance this problem.
I have experianced this problem with the default windows drivers as well as with logitechs current Mouseware drivers, although i have not tried to install older mouseware drivers
I've had lockups with CoreCell installed as well as removed. In DirectX 8.1 as well as DirectX 9
I thought perhaps it might have been my soundcard because prior to buying that I didnt have any problems...so I removed that...but i still got the same problem (although as i type this i realize i didnt uninstall the Audigy software before i tested....hhmmm. I'll have to test that)
I have noticed it happens more often in OSP/Quake3 (a competition mod) than in plain vanilla Quake3, but it does happen in both.
One intersting thing i discovered by trying out a Belkin KB with my set up was that when i hit a certain combination of keys it would exec a chat bind i had bound to a whole other key ?!?
    the combination was r + g + spacebar = keypad home
That particular problem stopped once I went back to original Keyboard. It did stick in my mind however that when playing Q3 i am hitting combinations of keys all the time and that maybe I'm hitting a combination that is problematic for my system. I have not been able to figure out what that combintion is yet (I tried for quite a while ...but was unable to find the correct combination to reproduce the problem )

  • Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center - Silent Installation option?

    Hello!
We are working towards a deployment of Windows 7 Enterprise via SCCM 2012. Part of our desktop hardware is a Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 (mouse and keyboard). I noticed that the Mouse and Keyboard Center was released last week and decided to test
this rather than going with an Intellipoint\type install.
We confirmed that mouse and keyboard center work fine, and are happy for this to be included in our OSD. However, we cannot determine a method to silently install the application. We have tested running the setup executable with /? and /s switches, we have
extracted the content of the executable and tried the same. We also found what appeared to be the installation msi file but this will not execute standalone.
We have 200 desktops to deploy and having the mouse and keyboard center deploy silently during our build would be great. If there is no way around having to accept the EULA, then we may have to consider reverting to intelli-type\point.
    Any advice appreciated!

  • Microsoft mouse not working

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion on my Early 2008 24-inch iMac, the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 doesn't work.  Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi, suspect is any on apple kext.
    I Pram REst doesn't work...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Macbook not working with Microsoft Mouse

Hey guys. I'm not really sure this is the right place to post this, but I'll try anyway (if you can think of a better place, please let me know).
I got a Microsoft Mobile Mouse 4000 for Christmas and have been having some issues with it. I installed the CD it came with and everything, and it works, but the tracking speed of the cursor on the screen is really slow. When I go into my settings to try and make it faster, it will work while the settings window is still open, but as soon as I close it, the tracking goes back to being really slow.
I called Microsoft about the problem and the guy pretty much said "Oh... you have a Mac? pause Yeah, I can't help you" EVEN THOUGH the box said that the mouse is compatible with Macs.
It's too late to take this thing back now, and I don't want to because I really like the mouse, but the tracking speed is just too slow to be efficient. Can somebody PLEASE give me some help on how to make the tracking speed stay fast??

You can try this: [MouseZoom - 2.2|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/12205]. I use it with my Magic Mouse and it works well. It adds a Pref in System Preferences called MZoom and when you goto it, a message comes up that it must close and re-open. When you click OK, a scale pops up that lets you adjust your speed from faster to incredible. Give it a try... it's free.

  • Microsoft Mouse Presenter 8000 - Lion - Parallels 7

    Hi there,
I saw a post where one guy has a problem with what I believe is the best mouse in the market. The microsoft Presenter 8000. Actually the mouse works pretty good with Lion (as it was working with SL) and also the full set of features, including the Presenter Mode works great.
Where is the problem. When I switch on Parallels 6 or 7 and I run ANY VM on it, it changes the DPI sensitiveness, which become very high and make the pointer ungovernable from the mouse. This is a software related thing, as when I switch back to the Lion desktop and just "open" the system preferences, it returns to the "normal" DPI settings. This is happening with both settings, the one handled by the Intellipoint mouse driver, or the Lion system setting. Same result.
Any clue on how to fix this?
    Thanks

Of course : I have installed the latest version of IntelliPoint software. A mouse/remote as sophisticated as the Wireless Presenter 8000 can't work without its software.
But one more time, I speak about a Bluetooth MS Mouse, and what I don't understand is that a few funtionnalities (magnifier, digital ink) only works with the MS USB plug delivered with the mouse.
What I'd like is to use ALL the functionnalities of my bluetooth mouse with only the bluetooth adapter integrated into my Toshiba Libretto U100.
