Migrating an Acrobat X upgrade to a new Win7 laptop

I'm migrating Acrobat X to my new laptop. I had Acrobat 8 on my old laptop and purchased X as an upgrade. Now when I activate / enter my license number on the new laptop, I get an error message that "the license number is valid but you must have a previous version on your computer." I don't want to install v8 on my new laptop. How can I activate X on my new laptop?

Usually you just need to provide the serial number for the version from which you are upgrading as proof of meeting the upgrade requirement.  There should be an option to provide it.

I had to purchase a new computer, how do I reinstall Acrobat XI Pro 'upgrade' to a new hard drive.
    Thank you

Just try installing again. As it is an upgrade you'll also need to have to hand the serial number of the qualifying product. It may work, or it may complain that it is already installed. If that happens you just need to contact Adobe Customer Service and explain the problem.

  • Installing Acrobat on new Win7 laptop

    Hello,
I have a new Windows 7 laptop coming, and I own Acrobat 5 with an upgrade to 8 Standard.  How can I install Acrobat on the new machine, do I have to install 5 first, and is that even an option? Thanks.

Look at the version number (like 8.0.0). It may be that AA8 can no longer be updated from the help menu. In that case go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and look for the downloads. If you start your downloads with the latest version (8.3.5 I think), you will see with each download the previous update that is needed. You can usually skip 2 or 3, but the rest have to be installed in order. You can wait for all to be installed before you reboot.

  • How can I activate my paid license (Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard) on my new laptop?

A few years ago, I bought Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and loaded it on my Sony Vaio laptop (Windows 7).
This laptop is now dying and I loaded Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on my new Lenovo laptop (Windows 8) - BUT IT WOULDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE MY LICENSE KEY.
Because I use this for work, I opted for the 30-day trial, but this is unacceptable.
How can I get the new installation to acknowledge my Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard license key?!
    sincerely,

  • Upgrading To A New Hard Disk Migrating Data

Like many old MacBook users right about now, we're all thinking about upgrading our 60 or 80 GB OEM hard drives. Well, I went and did it and I have a few questions after-the-fact, not to mention documenting my experience.
First I chose the Seagate Momentus 160GB 7200.2 (ST9160823ASG). This replaces the OEM Seagate Momentus 80GB 5400.2 (ST98823AS). The reason for this is simple ... the OEM drive worked flawlessly and I was willing to spend a little extra to ensure continued performance. I also chose to bundle it with a CMS USB 2.0 external enclosure data transfer kit to re-use my old drive.
My first surprise was that the CMS auto-transfer software was Windows only, despite the fact they make a Macintosh back-up product. The second surprise was that there was no Apple auto-transfer options. I literally spent an hour searching the Apple website and built-in help and tutorials to find a way to do this. Thanks to all on this discussion website as I ended up choosing a third party "clone" software to copy my old drive.
Which brings me to my first question. Every-time I tried to use Disk Utility to make a disk image of my old disk, I got the response that the disk image failed because resources were in use. Is that normal? Is there a way to make a back-up disk image using included Apple disk utilities? If not, then Apple NEEDS to spell it out, rather than a one line blurb in the disk install manual they publish that says basically: first back up your data. Thanks Apple, big help.
So I ended up using Carbon Copy Cloner, for a variety of reasons. A. it's $5 shareware and B. it specifically got better reviews than SuperDuper ($27). As far as I can tell, Carbon Copy Cloner did an exceptional job of perfectly backing up my old HD. BUT ...
Now here comes the next question ... the CMS enclosure seemed fine, but between CarbonCopyCloner and the USB 2.0 interface, it took over 9 hours to make a disk image of my old hard drive!!! Is THAT normal? Would a Firewire interface have sped this process up? Is SuperDuper faster? I must admit when I then used Disk Utility to restore the disk to the new drive, it took another 6 hours, so my guess is it wasn't the software's fault. Maybe it just takes a **** of a long time to move 80GB data. If the USB 2.0 interface is the bottleneck, then I highly recommend paying extra for a firewire enclosure. Would love to get a definitive answer here.
The process of installing the drive was simple. Thank you Apple (seriously). The new drive booted right up and the system is as zippy as ever ... but you knew it was coming:
The new 7200 rpm drive ran smoothly and absolutely silently in the external enclosure when I was backing up the old HD. Once installed, I immediately noticed a new vibration. Nothing huge, but it's there when now it wasn't on the OEM drive. The whole MacBook vibrates, stem to stern. The drive also seems hotter under my palm. Seeing all manor of these "VIBRATION" issues on other posts, I would suggest that anyone upgrading to a new drive, install the HD first to ***** the level of vibration before going to the lengthy duplicating process. It also seems to spin constantly, which the 5400 may well have done too but was otherwise unnoticeable.
My question here is, since these drives are virtually identical, does the 7200 rpm cause the added vibration & heat not present on the 5400, or could I have less-than-optimal drive which might be improved with a different drive? Also, the last time I had a high vibration drive on my PowerBook G3 it continued to get worse over the course of a year and Apple finally replaced it under Apple Care.
All-in-all it was a simple and relatively straightforward process once I found all the pieces, that is and Apple did not make it easy. I chewed up a lot of time I did not have looking for instructions. I've been using Macs since the original Macintosh in 1984. Ah I long for the days when I could just open a disk, insert another, select all and drag the contents to a new disk and voila! An exact copy of the original. Apple finally gets an A+ for RAM & Drive upgrade accessibility. But they get an F for making the data migration process as complicated as possible, particularly for something as important as our data. I'm sure their strategy is for everyone to take their computers to the Apple Store for upgrades and anyone else should already know how to do it. Well, I would suggest that most of us fall somewhere in the middle. We can put the new drive in and backup our data, but like making a good cake, we need the recipe.

Doug, I appreciate your input, however re-installing OSX is exactly what I DON'T want to do. Not only would it take an extended amount of time to update from 10.4.6 to 10.4.10 but importing files from the old hard disk comes nowhere near copying over every modification I've made to my system. The idea here, as I would think with anyone upgrading their hard drive with a perfectly working system, is to increase disk space and just keep right on going without missing a step. WIth all due respect your suggestion is absolutely the wrong advice in this situation. The last time I took such advice, I found myself missing many of the system helper applications allowing me to access hardware and software and all of it had to be reinstalled as I discovered things were no longer working as they should have. I DO NOT recommend re-installing OS X to anyone wishing to upgrade their drive, unless you are having problems with your system or just want to clean house. Apple should understand this. The bug thing on the install disk is just one of the many headaches involved in this process. My understanding was that I cannot make a disk image from the install disk was well as being unable to restore. However, if that's possible, then I could have done what I wanted without using a third party "shareware" solution. I will check it out and report back. Call me paranoid, but I would prefer to keep my data backup in the hands of those who formatted it originally, i.e. Apple. I would happily use a proven commercial utility, but for something as routine as upgrading my hard disk, I shouldn't have to pay to do it. Time was, if Apple had a bug in their startup utility disk, they would have corrected the error and sent a replacement to all registered users. Time was.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro upgrade installation on new PC

    Hi,
I've installed Acrobat 9 Pro on my new PC using the serial number I received when I bought it in 2010.
However, as part of the installation process, I'm now being asked for the serial number for the original product that this one was an upgrade for. I don't have that, as I bought it in 2008.

  • How can I run a  purchased Acrobat Pro XI on a new laptop Win 7 with serial number problem?

    Dear Forum
I have not used this service before so if there are any protocols please let me know.  I have just bought a new Fujitsu laptop and have been trying to download my Adobe Acrobat XI Pro that I purchased for A$239.00 in 2013.  When entering the serial number I am informed that the serial number does not match the product.  I have now had three chats with customer service to no avail!  They sem to think that what I purchased was an upgrade to Acrobat XI Pro.  This seems odd to me as the product was working on the old lap top

  • Question on Acrobat X upgrade version

    Here is my situation:
One of my users has a copy of Acrobat 7.0 Standard.  He recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 on it.  Acrobat 7.0 doesn't get along well with Windows 7, so we have decided to purchase Acrobat X Standard for him.  What I want to know is if it's necessary for Acrobat 7.0 to be installed before installing the Acrobat X upgrade?
As best I can tell, Acrobat 7.0 does install on his computer, but the pdf printer portion does not.  Still, I do not want to be in a situation where my upgrade license doesn't work because the install is incomplete or damaged due to incompatibility with Windows 7, and I do not have time to try it and then go through hoops with customer service to send the package back if it doesn't work.

In order to upgrade you don't need to install the old version at all, you
just need to have its S/N at hand because you'll be required to fill it in
    during the installation.

  • Acrobat 11 upgrade issue.

I just downloaded the Acrobat 11 upgrade. When I click to open the application it automatically shuts down. Multiple tries, same issue. Any solutions?

    Hi Wendy,
I have few questions for you:
Was it working fine for you before?
Have you updated Acrobat to v11.0.07?
Have you checked the performance a new Admin account?
    Try the following:
Move the cache.db file from the location Macintosh HD>Library>Application support>Adobe >Adobe PCD>Cache and move the cache.db file on to your desktop.
Close and reopen the application, you will get a prompt to enter the serial key, enter it and check if Acrobat is still crashing or not.

  • Downloading Acrobat X Pro on a new computer

I had a major crash of my old computer and although now repaired after reformating the C drive I bought a new computer.
I also bought a copy of Adobe X Pro (upgrade Version) since I had Acrobat 9.5 Pro on my old computer.  What additional steps will I need to take to install the upgrade version of the Acrobat X Pro?  How will I overcome the fact that there is no version of Acrobat now loaded on the new computer?
    Many thanks.
    Tom Urquhart

Nothing special required. Simply install Acro X. It will ask for the Acro 9 serial number for verification in the second step after you input the X serial.
