Modifying fieldpoint configuration in labview

I try to solve a problem and up to now do not find any solution, could somebody help??
I have an application working with fieldpoint module (one ethernet head FP-1601 with io modules FP-AI-100, FP-AO-210, FP-DI-300 and FP-RLY-420) this application is supposed to work on different machine (AI and AO range are differents) so I'm trying to find how to dinamically inside my application change the range of AI and AO as we normally set this in MAX.
If this is not possible, could it be possible from inside the application to manage a set of different IAK files, those will be then pre-created with MAX for the differents machine?
Thanks for any help!

Changing the input configuration programmatically, thought if current or
voltage input and ranges etc., isn't possible
with the normal FieldPoint VI's in LabVIEW. These settings can only be
altered and saved with the IAK- file, which needs to be available, when
you try to connect to the FieldPoint System via Server (this is done at
latest when you call the first FieldPoint VI). Some other
attributes can be changed programmatically by creating a specific item.(How Can I Programmatically Change Configurations of a FieldPoint Module?   http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/960F6F90436A1A1A86256FBA0062E463?OpenDocument) Which items these are, is specific to the FP- module.
If your are familiar with FieldPoint programming using Datasocket, then
you are able to change channel ranges programmatically (you don't need
an IAK- File for that)

  • How to Document a FieldPoint Configuration File (*.iak)

    Hello there,
Is there a quick and easy way to generate a human readable FieldPoint Configuration File?
I'm documenting an existing system from scratch and I can't see an easy way to do this, apart from captured screen shots from MAX - which is tedious! Perhaps I'm missing something but various PLC tools I've used in the past, have made this process very easy.
    Regards,
    ChromaBurst

There is not a method to see the bit masks of the channels outside of Measurement & Automation Explorer, however, using the FP Get Configuration Info.vi you have the ability to see the item list.  I agree it would be nice to see more details of the .iak file in LabVIEW.  I will file a product suggestion for this, and if you would like to also file one follow the following link and select "Product Feedback":

  • Self Reading FieldPoint Configuration

I have multiple compact FieldPoints configured all the same, and I want to create an application that is generic to install on each cFP-2020. How can program it to read it's own config information in order to read it's own module data?

    Jordan,
When a FieldPoint RT controller is configured, a file named fpbank.ini is downloaded into the module. The fpbank.ini file contains the names of the devices (modules) and items (channels). If you examine the file, you should be able to determine what type of module is at what location. This file will only provide names, it does not contain the information on how any given channel is configured. However, this should be sufficient for your purposes. I must point out that NI does not provide any sort of guarentees that they will not change the file format in future firmware revisions, so you may need to periodically change your code when NI releases updates, but my personal opinion is that the file format is probably not going to change very much ove
    r time.

  • Modifying the configuration files in OBIEE 11g

    Hi
We are facing an error when we tried to to add "<DashboardMaxBeforeMenu>" tag in the instanceconfig.xml manually and restart the presentation services of OBIEE 11g .
I had come across few suggestions that, configuration files in OBIEE 11g cannot be modified manually. I am doubtful on these suggestions . So please, let me know for sure wether we can modify the configuration files in OBIEE 11g manually or not.
It will be very helpful if the process to modify the configuration files in OBIEE 11g is shared with us.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I could not tell you whether the; <DashboardMaxBeforeMenu>10</DashboardMaxBeforeMenu> still works in 11g.
What I do know is that you could manually edit the configuration files. The only thing is when you modify this file via the Enterprise Manager, your customizations get lost. You have to manually add them again.

  • Is there a way to print my Fieldpoint configuration information

Is there a way to print my Fieldpoint configuration information including communication parameters, module types and names, channel input ranges, etc. other than doing a screen dump for each configuration dialog?
    Anton

    Anton,
Unfortunately I don't know of any other way to get a printout of all the FieldPoint configuration data.  The iak file is binary so you can't print that and a MAX report does not contain all the information.
I think this would be a great idea for a product suggestion though.

  • How do i read from/write to FieldPoint modules in LabView 8.5?

Is there a new way to read from/write to FieldPoint modules in LabView 8.5?  I made a .vi in LabView 8.0 using the FieldPoint icon under 'Measurement I/O' on the Functions Palette (to read from and write to different modules), but now, after transferring the program to a new computer with LabView 8.5, those icons are not listed under 'Measurement I/O'.  The FieldPoint items do show up in MAX so I know that they're connected properly.
Did I miss something when installing the new LV 8.5?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
As Mike said, it is important to reinstall any drivers that you need, such as FieldPoint, after
installing a new version of LabVIEW so that the new version of LabVIEW will contain the necessary functions for communicating with your specific hardware.  The same goes for any toolkits or software modules that you may have.
    Currently, only FieldPoint
6.0 installs support for LabVIEW 8.5.  The installer for FieldPoint 6.0 is packaged with the August 2007, November 2007, and February 2008 Device Driver CDs that shipped with LabVIEW.  The February 2008 Device Driver CD can also be found online at:
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/991/lang/en
You will notice on the FieldPoint
5.0.1 installer there are only support options for LabVIEW versions up
    to 8.2.1.
    Take care!

  • Fieldpoint Configuration Not Updating in LV Project

    Using custom scaling.
Change scaling settings for Channel 2 of cFP-AO-210, Apply, and Save.
    Open LV project.
    Add Targets/Devices
    Let project autodetect existing devices.
Once found and loaded, open AO Channel 2 properties and look at scaling.
They are the default settings, not my changed values.
    What's up with that?
I am not saving to a different IAK file and reading the wrong one;  at least not intentionally.
Just letting LV do its thing
Does the field point data have to find its way to the cFP-2100 controller before this will work?

    Hey Wes
So I'm kinda jumping in during the middle of your conversation here, but as I read back through the forum I have a number of questions. I know that you have configured your FP items in max with the scaling you want. I assume that you changed the individual channels on your AO, not the "all". You save your IAK file, and it successfully downloads to your controller. You then open LabVIEW, create a new project and import the IAK file. My first question is:
Do you see the custom scale you created if you right click on the channel of interest in the project, go to properties and then look at the custom scaling tab? (Again, I assume you're not using the "all" channel).
If not, I was able to have some luck scaling directly from the project instead of using MAX. So my second question is:
Are you able \ willing to create the scales as part of the project instead of through MAX?
Post back and let us know what you find. Thanks!

  • Fieldpoint configuration in MAX

I have an existing system using about a dozen FP-1600 modules with temperature modules FP-TC-120's.
    MAX version 3.0.2
In all my legacy configurations the channel list in MAX is: ALL, and then Channels 0 thru Channel 8 with channel 8 being the cold junction reading. (my code parses off the last channel from the data).
We just added another FP-1600 module with another FP-TC-120. In MAX the channel list is now (for this module only) ALL, CJ Temperature, Channel 0 -7.
Also the channel icons are blue whereas all the old setups the channel icons were grey (I realize that the colors are user specific, but I am noting the fact that the new ones are different).
Since my code is expecting the CJC to be last in the list, is there a way for me to redefine this?

The Item icons being blue vs. grey is simply an indication that you are actively subscribed and reading the items. When the icon is blue, you will notice that the channel data updates in the data screen. When the icon is grey, you will not see any updates. Note: there is a difference in behavior between the serial and ethernet modules. For the serial modules, when the icons are grey, no communication will be taking place on the serial port, because the serial communications are poll driver. For ethernet, as long as MAX is open, you will have active subscriptions (and ethernet activity) to all channels contained in your IAK file.
The channel names are listed in alphabetical order. You can easily rename the CJ Channel to Channel 8 to make it consistent with your previous code. Simply right-click on the Item and choose rename. However, it should be noted that despite the "different" channel order displayed, if you are reading the All channel in your code, it will still be in the order of Channel 0 through Channel 8 with 8 being the CJC. The display order in MAX does not affect the order of reading the channel.

  • FieldPoint devices and LabVIEW program for educational project

I use LabVIEW 7.1 and NI FieldPoint devices (FP-1000) for educational
purposes. I want to control a automation unit which has got 6 digital
input(DI) and 5 digital output(DO). I used the sequence structure, but
actually I am not sure the solution whether true or not.
    Working principle of my system:
If "Channel 1" DI is ON, DO Channel 10 must be "ON"(turn table motor
    Start)
If Channel 2 DI is ON, DO Channel 10 must be "OFF"(turn table motor
Stop) and DO Channel 11 must be "ON" (drill motor Start) and after a
delay time DO Channel 12 will ON (drill motor down)
If Channel 3 DI is ON, DO Channel 12 will OFF, a bit of delay time DO
Channel 13 ON ( drill motor up)
If Channel 4 DI is ON, DO Channel 13 and Channel 11 will be OFF (drill
motor stop) and then DO Channel 10 must be activated.(turn table again
    Start)
If Channel 2 is ON again DO Channel 10 will OFF and check cyclindir
control Channel 14 will ON, after a delay Channel 14 will OFF
If Channel 5 DI is ON, DO Channel 10 will ON again while DI Channel 2
    is ON.
How can I project the system with LabVIEW 7.1?
    Thanks, stn

This is a pneumatic technical experiment set. Your suggestions okey
but I have already studied these subjects.I have tested a solution for
the system using the sequence structues in the LabVIEW. But if you
sent to me an example vi, I will understand the solution way.Thanks.
Working principle of my system as a summary:
Step 1: When DI 1 is ON, DO 1 must be "ON"(turn table motor
Start) while DI 2 is ON. In this case DO 2 must be "ON" (drill motor
    Start) and after a bit
time delay DO 3 will ON (drill motor down),
Step 2 : when DI 3 is ON,(drill bottom level), DO 3 will OFF, after
that DO 4 will ON ( drill motor upper position) in this case DI 4 is
ON, after that DO 1 again ON while DI 2 is ON (like step 1)

  • Support for Fieldpoint software under Labview 7.1?

I'm upgrading an application written in Labview 6.1 and Fieldpoint 4.0.1 to Labview 7.1. Is there a new version of the fieldpoint software that is available that supports 7.1? Any other pitfalls to this conversion that I should be aware of?

  • Agilent 34970A External Reference Configuration via Labview 8.2

    Hello
I am trying to scan up to 12 channels with the Agilent 34970A. My goal is to measure the temperature using channel 101 as the external reference using 4-wire RTD whereas all the other channels are supposed to use Thermocouple (k-Type). I know that the Agilent is able to do so, because you can configure it on the manual display. My problem is that every time I have configured Channel 101 ( CONF: TEMP FRTD,85, (@101)) and then the other Channels 102:1XX ( CONF: TEMP TC,K, (@102:1XX)) it seems that the configurations for Channel 101 are lost. I tried everything I could come up with to seperate the inputs, but nothing usable comes up. Any Advice?
    Thanks Neja

There are two different drivers sets for the 34970, but they're not from Agilent. They're available from the NI Instrument Driver Network. Since you said you had it working under 7.1 you're probably using the older "hp34970" drivers. The error codes you indicated are -138, which is "Suffix not allowed", and -113, which is "Undefined header". Both of these basically mean a syntax error, which is likely incorrect code with the drivers. There are numerous configuration VIs. Which one are you using, and how are you calling it? Can you use the updated project-style drivers available from the link I posted?
I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying with the COM ports. You said you get nothing when using COM1 or COM2. How many devices do you have connected to your COM ports? What communication parameters (baud rate) are you setting?
It would probably be worthwhile to see what happens if you try to talk to instrument via MAX to see if this is a communication problem or a LabVIEW problem. With the LabVIEW drivers you can see what command is being sent out to the instrument by simply putting a probe on the string that's being fed to the VISA Write. Then, you can enter the same command in MAX (as well as confirming the command from the user manual) to see what happens.

  • Configuring NI Labview to work with Telelogics CM Synergy 6.3

Having successfully set up NI TestStand to work with Telelogics CM Synergy 6.3 by downloading the Integration patch from their website and carrying out the associated work, I want to achieve the same with LabVIEW 6.1. When I select the "Configure SCC Options" the Provider field offers only the "Built-in" option. I need to see something akin to "CM Synergy" in this field. Can anyone asssit?

    Additional articles of interest are:
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B68CCC0FCD1C426486257163005106E5 which speaks of the necessary registry key. (aka why a particuler CM application might not show up in the Configuration Control dialog)
    And:
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/3c1eadff9708084a86256e85005636aa which speaks of the patch.  Note that when I viewed the link at the bottom of the article it did not lead to the patch location on Telelogics web site. Rather it led to some support pages.
The patch can be found at:  synergy drop down, select Product Downloads, Current Integration section, click on SYNERGY/CM 6.4, Windows section, PC Integrations.  I downloaded this and installed the only SCCI integration. That install created the registry key.
    And a document about MSCCI:
    http://download2.telelogic.com/synergy/cm_synergy/6.2/cm_synergy/documentation/scc_api_conform.pdf
Now the issue is descerning functionality.  Initially, upon setup, I am prompted to select a project which does not seem appropriate. Also note that in the Tools->Source Control->Configure Source Control dialog a specific Source Control Project can be listed.  These seems odd as I would expect the configuration of Source Control and usage such as creating or selecting a particular project would be seperate.
I perceive my next step to be create a source tree from an existing project in labview.  This is not possible because a Source Control configuration forces one to select a project. Therefor new Source Control project must be created outside of labview.  ie directly in Synergy.  I will give that a go and report back.
    thanks
