Mods Help - Light Broadband user - surge in Upload...

Hi,
I'm a light broadband user on the infinity 20GB, TV deal package. My normal usage has been around 12Gb per month
which is high considering I just browse the web infequently. I don't game, stream tv, download music or videos. It's
just two 60+ years old in the house.
In the last few days I have received usage warnings saying my usage is getting near the 20Gb limit and I'm only half way through December. The first warning came on the 12th Dec saying I was at 14GB. On checking my account today it is now saying 23GB but was last updated at 23:59 on the 14th Dec. I'm very concerned though about a note further down which reads "£31.8 charge incurred for additional usage." I've had no email through to explain what this charge is and I'm concerned something is wrong with my account.

On checking the usage breakdown it is showing usage upload to be 15GB; that seems an extremely high amount for somebody who checks the bbc news, goes on ebay and does a few google searches per day.
As the usage monitor doesn't tell me what this 15GB is supposed to be I'm lost as to what the problem is. I have up to date Norton anti virus software on my laptop. Please help as I don't want a stupid high fees that I can't explain.

Your usage meter shows that approximately 1/3 was download (data received) and 2/3 was upload (data sent). I would think that amount of data sent from your home to the internet isn't typical for the type of use you describe. If all you do is browse web sites, watch the odd on-line video and check e-mails then what does the large amount of sent data relate to and to where is it being sent?
If the BT figures are correct then some possibilities are a PC file sharing program (either installed intentionally or by malware), a PC automatic internet cloud based data backup program, or a PC live video chat program outgoing connection being left open for long periods.
You can install a separate network traffic meter program on a PC to track how much data the PC is sending/receiving and which are the main programs doing it. There are free programs available. You can also look at the real-time network activity reported through Windows Task Manager if using a Windows PC.

24" imac goes into sleep mode and lights on circuit flicker

Hi -
I have a 24" imac and have found that when the display goes into sleep mode the lights on the circuit flicker.
I have searched the web and other users have complained of the same issue with no resolution.
Here is a similiar post - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2606099?start=0&tstart=0.      The resolution is probably you need to get the iMac serviced, what i'm wondering is what is the problem in the imac that is causing the issue.    Is this a defect?
Before anyone questions the circuitry in my house here is what I have verified.
An electrician has come and verified the electric panel is good and all circuit breakers are good.   All circuits in my house are copper, no aluminum.
I can plug the iMac into any circuit and the problem starts right when the Imac's display goes to sleep.     I have owned the iMac for approximately 5 months now (bought it used) and the problem started about a month ago.
Assuming this has to be serviced I dread to wonder the price .

The sleep timeout has nothing to do with disk activity. It's based on user input, although some background processes can pre-empt it. If you don't want the machine to sleep automatically, disable automatic sleep in the Energy Saver preference pane.

PowerPC G5 iMac only booting up in Safe-mode - Help!

In July of 2005, I purchased my PowerPC G5 20" iMac, 2.0GHz, +260 GB harddrive and 2 GB of DDR SDRAM. It has been running so great that I even upgraded to Leopard OS 10.5.6 in June of 2011.
However in Nov. 2011, the computer would freeze upon start-up, and I would have to hold the power button to shut it down. After waiting a minute I would start it up and the OS came up ok. But each week I had to shut it down and restart a few times before it booted up ok. I ran the OS Disk Utility to repair permissions and it did not seem to make a difference. I also ran MacTuneUp 3.6.0 (purchased it in 2010), and there was also no difference.
Now I can ONLY boot into Safe-mode - Help!!!

Discovered something new!
I left my iPhone connected to the iMac, and when starting up the computer the iPhone started charging. When the screen froze (light blue shade, not black screen), the iPhone stopped charging. (no charge?).
BTW....my mouse always moves when in frozen state.
I also tried starting up (c-key) using OS 10.5.6 CD and computer also froze in light-blue screen. The computer tried to access the CD but then gave up. After leaving the computer for awhile the screen power saving mode was on (screen was black). When I moved the mouse the screen changed from black to light-blue screen. Boot CD did not work. No keyboard commands work. Only holding the power button will shut down the computer.

Blending Modes ("vivid light") in After Effects?

I discovered that in After Effects CS6 (Win7) some blending modes seem to not work as expected.
I have a bitmap with transparencies above another bitmap and want to blend it with "vivid light" - but the result is the same as if i had no blending mode selected at all. The same is for "hard light", "linear light" or "hard mix".
Other blending modes like "multiply", "soft light" and "overlay" work just fine.
Does anyone have an idea what is wrong with my After Effects?

I'm sorry for not being as specific as requested in the faq. I thought it might be more helpful to reduce the problem description to the most relevant facts first, and see if it can be solved in a simple way.
My former experiences with providing all existing information in the first post is usually met with no answers at all, because people think: WOAH! Too much information. ;-)
Okay, I designed my video design in Photoshop CS6 first. This is how the design was supposed to look like - as it was composed in Photoshop.
There are two layers:
1. a pattern of semi-transparent patches on top and
2. a blue gradient background
the pattern (1) is composited with blending mode "vivid light" on the background (2).
After I exported both layers as pngs (24bit alpha) and imported them in After Effects and used the same settings as in photoshop, I got the following:
As you can see, I used "vivid light" as blending mode, but it looks exactly as if blending mode "normal" was used.
The render quality is set to final quality.
The same happens with blending modes "hard light", "linear light" or "hard mix" (i guess, you don't need screenshots, because they all look the same)
But other blending modes like "multiply", "soft light" and "overlay" work fine (in this case I used "overlay"):
So, the problem is: Why do some blending modes not work, while others work?
BTW: I also tried to import the PSD directly into After Effects with all layers retained, in case something was wrong with the pngs, that I exported - but the imported PSD produced exactly the same error. So, no difference there.

I have Magic bullet looks installed, but since I don't use it in this project, I don't think it's got anything to do with the problem

I don't know.. I thought OpenGL in CS6 is all automatically and can not be turned off or on?

Prospective new BT Broadband user - DLM queries

I'm currently an O2 LLU broadband user and, you my have heard, Sky are in the process of taking over O2/BE broadband and home phone accounts.
I have a BT line and want to keep it that way, so I've been looking at what BT broadband can offer. It's not certain when I would have to make the switch, as the Sky takeover could take several months. Fibre is due on my exchange during 2013 but, if I have to, I'd be happy to move to BT ADSL with a view to upgrading to fibre later on.
But my enthusiam for moving to BT possibly has a major obstacle - DLM.
My impression has always been that BT speeds are, shall we say, more conservative than many others, and I believe that this may well be because of their over-zealous DLM. So my main reason for posting now is to find out some more about the criteria used by BT's DLM and how flexible BT are at tweaking user's settings to achieve best results.
I'm not on a great quality line - Noise Margin around 6dB, Attenuation 51dB, which gives me around 5.5Mb on ADSL2+.
I'm used to being able to influence my O2 sync speed according to the time of day. I usually sync at around 5.5Mbps, which I can sustain during the day no problem, but every few days this may drop during the evening. I'm happy accept that if a get a blip which causes an evening resync at say 4.5Mbps, I know I can recover to best speeds by manually resyncing the next day between say 10:00 and 14:00.
So, a few questions, if somebody would be kind enough to help ...
I understand there is a 10-day training period, during which DLM monitors for the most stable sync speed. Why is this training needed if DLM continues to monitor afterwards anyway?
Am I right in thinking that the BT DLM won't let me recover my speed by resyncing a 'good' time of day, as I do at present?
If I get a glitch during the evening and DLM resyncs me slower, how long before the speed recovers? I've heard several days mentioned!
If it does indeed take several days to recover, and the very next day I get another glitch, am I back to square one, and have wait a further few days?
It would seem a backward step for me to have to always live with a connection speed based on a worst case scenario, when I know I could get a better sync speed for most of the time.
Hopefully, I'm being unduly pessimistic, but any explanation of the practical effects of BT's DLM would be much appreciated.

Summarising your two points, if I'm synced at 5Mbps and DLM detects a problem and lowers the sync speed to (say) 4Mbps, I can wait until the next day and manually restart the router (as I do now) to try for a better sync speed (and therefore higher IP profile)? Yes correct however be aware that to many restarts can be seen as line instability and can cause an increase in noise margin with the following reduction in sync speed which will take longer to recover

User can not upload pictures to Wiki....

Hello All,
I got a strange problem: One of our users can not upload pictures to our OS X Server (10.8.5) Wiki anymore. If the user edits a page and uploads an image, the picture shows up in the page, but the progress indicatior of the upload runs forever. Saving the page hangs also - the only option is to manually re-load the page, but then the impages are gone, of course.
The strange thing is, on pages the user has uploaded images before (some weeks ago), uploading new images works! I had a look at the wiki log file but did not see anything suspect. The client is Windows with latest Firefox. But we have other users on Windows/Firefox that work perfect.
Does someone has an idea where to look for the problem?

Take a look at the following things to help your diagnosis:
Is it the computer or the user account that's causing the problem ?
Let that user try the same thing using a different browser.
Copy one of the images that does work on another user's computer to the computer that doesn't work and try that one.
Vice versa.

522 error - ridiculous security system, mod help p...

Long story short: My wife is abroad, her mother is ill there- we rely on email for communication. She is now unable to send emails from any device as the BT server reports a 522 error as pasted below.
I have remotely controlled her laptop and reset the password as suggested by BT 522 error help page multiple times. The server says it has blocked sending as "the connection is unsecure" This is using our adsl connection in our home abroad, it is not a public wifi.... some ridiculous security software that Bt seem to be using now. She uses different connections... how crazy that BT does not allow email use by travellers!
I need Mod support please asap having had great success with them resolving such issues before - I refuse to call BT on the phone as I do not have 4 hours to waste.... with someone who knows less than I do 8)
I cannot find anyway to contact a mod here anymore...

You cannot directly contact a moderator, as this is primarily a customer to customer forum.
You need to make secure connections to BT mail if you are using an e-mail client like Outlook, Live Mail, or Thunderbird.
If she is using a webmail connection, then there should be no problem.
What is she using to send and receive e-mails?

Purchase Orders form in Query Only mode for a single user

Hi All,
I want to make the Purchase Orders form as query only for a single user. I tried by giving 'Query_only=Yes' in the parameters section. I am getting 'FRM-04151: You cannot query records here' message more than 10 time. I know we get this message and this is applicable to all the users. But this message is comming more than 10 times.
Is there anyway that I can restrict the Query only mode to a single user and please suggest about the message also.

Mode not available on user portal

If we setup the default for users to be OTP how do they change to OTP+pin and set a PIN?
I turned all the users options on for the portal but the MODE option did not show up
If I set myself up as an admin then I get a mode option for the user I searched for

Mode is dictated by the admin. Users can't choose for themselves whether to require PIN or not. Users can be set to PIN mode in the MFA Server or through the User Portal Admin functionality in the User Portal.

Need a help to create user and assign BP to it

Creating "help" systems for users (not other LV programmers) - where to start?

How should one approach giving users a built-in "Help" system? Users, that is, of a distributed application written in LabVIEW.
These users ideally would have no way of knowing the application was written in LabVIEW. To them, this application is just another program. The way the LabVIEW Help system works would be fine, but all the content would be inappropriate.
From the docs I see we can write "Descriptions" that show up in context-sensitive help when the user puts the mouse over a control, and a "Tip" that shows up when the context-sensitive help isn't even enabled. Are these typically the only help features built into a distributed application?
In the LabVIEW Help there is an article called "Development Process Tips" discussing creating web pages that document the VIs that you create, and another article called "Linking VIs to HTML Files or Compiled Help Files. Another discusses Creating Compiled Help Files, but refers to third-party software for doing this. Is this a typical approach for doing a nice job of providing help?
Or is there some other way to create a Help system that works like the existing LabVIEW help but has content we create?

Let me take your questions in order:
Q. How should one approach giving users a built-in "Help" system?
A. Here's one approach I have used:
a). Give all front panel controls and indicators a description so that the context help will show information for those front panel objects, and also for relevant front panel objects a tip - this will pop-up when the user hovers over the object, and can be annoying if it's used excessively, but nice if used where appropriate.
b). Create html files, one for each "Page" of your user interface, and place a Help button on your user interface which will launch the corresponding document for that "Page." I'm not sure what your UI is like, but basically if there are multiple front panels the user will see, a page describing each object on that panel, and the panel's purpose is nice. If you're using a tab control in any of those panels, then a page for each tab is nice as well.
A variation of b). is to use a so-called compiled help file - a .chm file. These are only relevant for Windows machines, so if you plan to deploy across multiple OSs, then this is out. The reason documentation suggests you need a third party tool is because those .chm files basically collect a set of html files together into a nice document, with the usual search, index, browse etc. capabilites and we don't have a product which does this. The LabVIEW Help on Windows is a nice example of a .chm file. You can do something SIMILAR with just HTML and javascript, creating at least a contents page which has organized links to the rest of the pages (which themselves can contain links back to the contents page), and even include the ability to search keywords etc. You'll find various free examples of such html and javascript on the web.
Once you have your html or compile help file, you can use the LabVIEW Help VIs to launch them. For chm files you can open the file and direct to a particular page of the chm file, and for html files all you really need to do is launch the relevant html file in the browser of your choice.

A. No, the html or chm idea is a nice touch, and can add a professional feel to the application.

A. Yes, it is used internally as a standard - chm for windows and html for linux and MAC.

A. One ideas is that you could implement your help entirely in LabVIEW if you'd like. Basically you would be launching your own VI or VIs which would show whatever documentation you wanted/created. You could use a tree structure or something to provide some convenient navigation by topic, and even a search - you would be coding this, and although I haven't done it, it seems like it would be pretty easy to do.

I have several questions of finishing setup.
Everything I wanna work except one. I don't know how to create the user who as a client can upload files. Now I have the directory upload, where everyone can do anything that he want (upload delete rename etc..) and others dir such as music, films where users (they all will be anonymous) can only download. I want to create user who can upload files to this directories. How can I make this? now no pam, no authantification.
Another question. How can I limit space of upload's folder?

ok. I had done all writing in the guide. but this example is without anonymous users. I want to create two types of directories ("shared" and others) and two types of users (anonymous and several admins which must log in)
1) anonymous users who can do anything in directory "shared" and only download in other directories.
2) admins users can upload and delete files or folders at any directory.
home directories aren't interesting to me.
What permissions should specify for dir?

I did everything I normally do before an upgrade.
Fix premissons, etc etc etc..
Ran the combo updater & rebooted....
Checking my HDD & noticed I lost
my "jtmadman" folder in my User folder.
Any ideas???
