More "sent email" problems

For the past several days I've been sending emails that didn't arrive at their destination. However they did reside in my "sent mail" folder.
Until this morning that is. One moment they are there, the next time I check they are gone. All my old sent mails are still there, but it's like Mail suddenly realized that the ones that never made it to their destination really shouldn't be in the "sent" folder. And thus decided to pretend it never happened.
Ghost in the machine? Or is there an explanation for this "change of heart"?
(unfortunately I'm away from home and didn't have my external hooked up for this, so Time Machine is of no help)

it is IMPOSSIBLE to choose one's closest city without first selecting one's proper zone ('server').
Really?? Because I can set my time server to Apple Europe (time.euro.apple.com, which you incorrectly stated as time.apple.com in your original post), even though I am in Boston, U.S.A., and doing so *does not* change my displayed time (nor should it, since it merely changes the server my MBP queries for the current time in GMT, as Ned stated). Setting a different time server does not preclude me from selecting any city from Anchorage, Alaska to Vladivostok, Russia in the Time Zone tab.
I suspect you are confused about how to properly select a city, and more importantly about what a tab is. When you state "scrolling through the tabs" you seem to be referring to the choices for time server in the pop-up menu, but the term "tab" in this context refers to a sub-pane of a preference pane. When you click on System Preferences > Date & Time, below the header bar there are three tabs - Date & Time, Time Zone, and Clock.
To set your time, go to System Preferences > Date & Time and click on the Date & Time tab, select Apple Americas/U.S. Then, click on the Time Zone tab. (Hint: if you don't see a map of the world here, you are not selecting the Time Zone tab!!) Click on the map somewhere near where you live. Then choose a city from the drop down menu.
Note that you need to click on the map first - only cities in the selected time zone are selectable in the drop down list. If you *read thoroughly* the instructions in the Time Zone tab, they state "Click your part of the world, then choose a city from the pop-up menu."
Hope this helps...

  • Sent email problem

Please help! My sent emails are going to the original sent folder, and a copy of them is added to a folder called "sent messages" whenever I go to iCloud.com! I need help! I think the copies of my sent emails are adding up to my iCloud space, so I need to get rid of the copies without deleting the originals. If you have any ideas, please help.

You could but I'm not sure it would solve anything.  You might want to try going to Settings>iCloud on your iPad and turn Mail to Off, then after a minute or so turn it back to On.  This will remove and re-add your iCloud email account and may fix things.  Then try sending a test message and see if it gapes to the correct Sent folder.

  • Outlook Sent Email Problem!

I use Outlook 2010 and use two accounts one is btinternet and the other a gmail. Over the last few days when I send a gmail it posts a copy in the gmail "Sent Box" and also posts the same copy in the btinternet "Sent Box" - this does
not happen if I reverse the process. I have trawled Microsoft and other help sites and have not come across any reference to this particular problem or solution only the problem of saving emails twice in one "Sent Box" can anyone help please?

    Hi,
Have you checked if you have set any Outlook rule to move a copy of sent items to the other account? To check this, please go to Home tab > Rules > Rules & Alerts.
If you have any antivirus or third-party add-in installed, please temporarily turn off the antivirus and open Outlook in safe mode to test the issue again. To open Outlook in safe mode, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook.exe /safe and press Enter.
If above doesn't make any difference, please try to create a new mail profile in Control Panel and reconfigure your email accounts to check the result.
    Thanks,

  • Having problems with Facebook on my ipad2. Updated operating system. Problem started before that and continues. Can't click on like or make comments. Sent email to Facebook. Their response was that they don't answer individual emails but read them. Sigh!

Stated above, I have issues with Facebook and my iPad 2. I have updated the operating system, but the problem started before that. Can't click on like or enter comments. Problem started about a week ago. Sent email to Facebook and they responded that they don't answer individual emails but read them. Lots help that was.

Facebook is basically broken, at least as far as it pertains to mobile browsers. THey changed something in their coding and now mobile browsers don't work with facebook. ANd their app, well their app has been less than stellar for a long time.
Unfortunately, it's up to facebook to fix things, not apple. All you can do is find work arounds. Look for third party apps, I have one called Facely HD which seems to work reasonably well (even though it does seem to not see all posts). There may be others that work better. You can also simply not access facebook on your mobile until they fix it.
It's all on them and users can only be patient or find other ways to work around it.

  • Gmail problem-duplicating sent emails

the title pretty much says it all. I set up a gmail account on the mail app. i sent a email and it keeps duplicating the sent email only showing bits and pieces of it a time until it shows the full sent email. I would have like 10 duplicates of the same sent email. I try to delete it and its come back. I want it to stop what do i do?

Those are the drafts that are autosaved every minute (hence the partial contents with each version). Those will be automatically cleared out after you send the full email. If you don't want to see them, you should probably not save drafts on the server (Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors>Drafts).

  • Im having problem in Mail. Sent is showing incorrect date and also not showing sent emails that have been successfully sent. Is it a virus?

Having trouble in MAIL. Running MacOSX(10.6.8) and in MAIL the SENT both doesnt show sent messages( successfully received) and doesnt show correct date sent. Any ideas??

Not sure about the time stamp problem, but the missing "Sent" mails problem is not uncommon. This problem is one that a lot of people have and in my opinion, I think it's a problem with Apple's mail application, nothing at the user's end.
Does this happen only when you include an attachment or does that matter? Also, does it only happen when your outgoing message is delayed a bit? Check your junk/spam folder to see if your sent messages went in there.
This doesn't fix anything, but you might change your e-mail settings so that all new mails are automatically sent Bcc to yourself.
Sometimes the "missing" sent mails are not going in the right folder. I'm sure you probably already know, but in the left-hand column in MAIL, under Mailboxes, there is a second "sent" folder way at the bottom, depending on your other e-mail accounts, such as Yahoo or Gmail). Many people have discovered their missing "sent" e-mails in those.
It is a big hassle, for sure, and has been officially reported. Users with complaints are being told that Apple's Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems block the connection from a user's e-mail client when it attempts to store outgoing e-mails, which contain attachments, to the users'  sent folder.
This is supposedly due to the Mac OS/Mac Mail sending non-standard or erroneous commands to the server, emulating the activity which would be generated by an attacker attempting to abuse an exploit in the IMAP server. I doubt you are doing anything wrong, so it's just a matter of waiting for them to FIX this annoying issue.

  • I had to refresh my computer, now after re-installing thunderbird, I only see my emails in my inbox, but not my sent emails or addresses.

Hey there Thunderbird crew and family...
First of all....well done on all your hard work, keep it up! I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for a while now...and don't plan on stopping...it's amazing!
    Okay.....soo the problem....
My laptop needed to be refreshed...as it was almost getting to the point of "the Blue Screen of Death"
I had to re-install my Thunderbird with the 24.5.0 version... I am using Windows 8
HOW....do I get my sent messages (which were saved in my sent folder in my previous version of thunderbird), as well as get my Addresses from my address book..?
Ofcourse I don't have a saved or backed up file of the previous settings...messages....addresses etc....
but I do see a "windows.old/users" file though.....and I've read many....many different Mozillazines.....as well as even tried to read - Restoring a profile backup / Restoring to a different location - But that required me having to locate a backed up profile.....which again..i wasn't able to back it up.
I lost my software like Office and Adobe...however all my files and folders of pics...music....letters for work etc etc...have all be restored onto my desktop.
I have looked through many pages of your forum but I haven't been able to find an answer.....
    Any help..??
    thanks, have a great day.
    Jason

    Hey hey Christ1
I think we are getting closer to this thing being solved...
    The Update --
I have all my Mail in One of my accounts (work)....but not all the Mail in the other account (aka my Music account).....
Both I've set up again..using your advice...and changed both now to IMAP..
Originally after refreshing my laptop, when I set up Thunderbird....I used the POP settings.....and that's when I messed it up.....
but using IMAP now....I've gotten more of my old emails .....in my INBOX.....not all.....but most....YIPPIE
My SENT emails....in my Music account.....have all disappeared.......I've looked in both sent folders...in POP...and IMAP....and nothing is there...
However my sent folder of my work account...I have SOME of the sent emails...
Address books....Collected and Personal folders.....I have NO Email Addresses at all.
Sooo now even though I am getting confident we will solve it.....I still have 4 accounts....aka...2 Work (POP and IMAP).....2 Music (POP and IMAP) until you tell me to delete or change one from each.....
BOTH IMAP accounts.....do not show new messages...when they come in....however the POP shows it.....I did read that If I deleted the POP to change to IMAP I will not be able to get emails.....sooo not sure what to do about that issue now....
Is there an "automatic" backup feature for Thunderbird...?? All this could have been soo prevented if I did that....sheesh...
    anyway..thanks so far.... :)

  • Upgraded icloud storage and lost sent emails

I upgraded the storage on my iCloud account yesterday and now all of my sent messages from my main email account have vanished.  Does anyone have this problem.  I also have 3 other email accounts and all of the sent messages from those accounts are still present.  I have lost over 13k sent emails that are for my business.  HELP!!!!

Log into appleid.apple.com and verify that both the email addresses you use do not show up there in the same account. My worry is that you might be mistaking a login alias ([email protected]) as a separate account which it might be one in the same. Either way, if you are having issues downgrading your storage you will need to contact Apple for more assistance.

  • Apple Mail (10.7) Sent Emails...where are they

I have sent over 140 emails since August 3rd using OSX Lion and NONE, Yes NONE are showing in Apple Mail's "Sent" files.
As usual I went back to Outlook 2011 and all 142 sent emails are there.
What the heck is going on with Apple Mail??????
    ....Cannot search for anything
    .....Cannot find sent emails
    and more..
Hate to say that so far Outlook 2011 is MUCH better, but I hope that this is not true and someone can give us a reason why so far Apple Mail is a HUGE disappointment.
    Thx Much

I have this problem with our exchange 2007 accounts. Since I installed Lion I noticed the sent folder didn't contain any of the exchange accounts, I carried on for a few days but the sent folders never appeared. So I deleted each of the four exchange accounts I use in my company and set them up again. Hurrah! the sent items appeared but after a few days they disappeared again. Here is my screen shot of the settings used, which by the way i havent changed.
Just to end I'd say that I like Mail in Lion but this bug? is making it unusable so I've moved to Outlook while it gets fixed.

  • Outlook 2007 POP3 sent emails don't work

about 3 days ago our sent emails on our 2 user  btinternt accounts stopped being received.  it's definately an outlook setting problem as emails sent directly from btmail work fine.  I've attempted to use all the settings recommended by BT to no avail.  I have 2 other non bt accounts in outlook and they send fine.  receiving emails no problem. tried changing to IMAP but that didn't cure the problem, so reverted to pop3, which suits us much better.  any ideas please?

I use the following settings in Outlook and they work without problem. It may be that you will need to delete the account and set it up again. If you do delete it make sure that you back up any emails that are on your computer.
    Your Name
Email address: Full btinternet email address
    Account type: IMAP or (POP)
    Incoming server: mail.btinternet.com
    Outgoing server: mail.btinternet.com
    Logon information:
User name: prefix only of email address
    Password: Email password
    Tick remember password
Do not tick Require password auth (SPA)
    Click Button More settings
Tick box my out going server requires authentication
Tick box use same as incoming
Do not tick log onto incoming server
    Advanced Button
Incoming server 993 or (POP 995) Tick requires SSL
Outgoing server 465 Use following type encryption SSL

  • Need help with new email problem

Hi friends . . . I'm not sure if this is a forum that could help me figure out my new problem . . . but I'll give it a try. . .I need some help . . . My email is sometimes being sent to the wrong address. Instead of my Yahoo address, they're sent to AOL instead. At first I thought this was an eBay or Paypal problem, but other mail that I subscribe to is all of a sudden going to AOL instead of my Yahoo address . . .In all of these cases, the AOL address was never registered with the site. I'm not using an external POP mail program . . . just standard Yahoo mail with iMac and Firefox. Anyone have any clue what's going on . . . .thanks in advance for any help . . .

You're using Google Mail : you should have said that earlier. the more information you give, the faster the solution.
Then it's easy for you. Please read this article from the public knowledge base :

  • Sent email to certain addresses disappears

I suspect this is happening with others but I know for sure it is happening with one particular address. When I send email to my parent's email address which is an msn account from my .mac mail acct using mac mail, the message simply disappears. It shows as sent on my macbook but they never receive it. I have sent emails in the past without a problem and I can receive email from them without a problem. I sent a test email to my hotmail acct at the same time I sent one to their msn acct and mine made it but theirs did not. I checked their junk folder and it is not in there either.
    Any ideas?

You are not alone. I'm having similar thing happen when I reply to certain emails, though it seems more random to me. Both the original email and the reply disappear. Nothing seems to be sent and I don't get anything in my Sent folder. If I run a Spotlight check for either one, they show up in the listing and I can open them in individual windows, but I cannot open them in the Mail viewer.
Another oddity is that the reply shows up multiple times in the Spotlight listing. Obviously the file exists somewhere in the computer, though I can't find where. I believe that if you shut-down your computer or perhaps just close Mail, these missing emails disappear for good! Not a good thing if you cannot rely on your mail program.

  • Cannot access sent email

All of a sudden, I cannot access my sent email! The address and subject line/date/size show, but in the area for the content, I get the message "The message from .... has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
What the heck does this mean? I am still sending and receiving mail just fine, but I cannot view anything I've sent. This has just started recently. I am using an older silver Mac G4 with OS10.3.9

    I had the same problem,
I managed to solve it by deleting many emails, mostly the ones with large attachements. Just delete and erase deleted mail.
Reducing the size of the mailbox was the trick.
Just beware that after you deleted the emails, it takes sometime for the Mail app to compact and reindex your mailbox even if NO activity is shown. If you close the app too soon you'll see no more the deleted emails but they will still be in the mailbox and problem will still be there!
Just leave it on for a while and check into Users>usr>Library>Mail>POP-yourmailaccount that the INBOX and Sent Messages mailbox are of a reasonable size (no more than 400 Mb)

  • Cant view sent email says I need to take account online to view

Just out of the blue, I can no longer view my sent emails. When I click on them to resend or view what I wrote, I get this message
____has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
I have tried to delete previous emails thinking it was a memory problem, but that does not seem to work.
    Any helpe would be appreciated.

    Hello,
If, as your system info reports, you are running OS 10.3.x and using Mail 1.3.x, then you most likely have an Overstuffed mailbox. See:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121837
If using Tiger (10.4.x) then it is most likely an indexing problem, and although overstuffing is possible in Mail 2.x, as well.
More info, please. If the mailbox is really huge, then there is a script to split it, so post back with further observations and info.
    Ernie
