Motion 4: Match Camera to movement of an object?

I sometimes do this in a 3d program I use and set the camera as a child of the object with movement... Is this possible with Motion? The object with movement is not a video clip.... it is a shape which I animated...
Thanks.

Christina, sorry I'm not at my FCP machine today but I know it's possible. I think you're looking for a parameter behavior for the camera. When you apply that parameter behavior, there wil be  well into which you will drop the object you want it to follow.
I hope that helps, I can't even look it up in the manual.

  • Motion 4: Match Move (additional question...)

This is a bit of an extension to my previous question...
I am matching the camera position to the move of an object (already did that) but then once it get's to a certain point, I want the camera to stop and then have the object keep on going (in this case, out of the frame)...
Is this possible? Once the behavior ends, the camera goes back to it's original spot....
The Hold Frame in the Retiming Behavior panel doesn't work....
Anyhow, any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Well I "hacked it"...
I duplicated the object... butted it right next to it's twin, then keyed the opacity from 100 and 0 to the next frame, the duplicate kept on going....
However if there is a better way, it would be nice to know...

  • Motion Tracking - Match Move

It's yet not possible to send a clip from FCPX timeline directly to Motion 5.
If I want to use "Analyze Motion" and "Match Move" everything must be done manually, what is a pain in the ???.
    No workflow at all.
Does someone has a workaround, if I want e.g. to make a Title "Match Move" to a previously "Analyzed Motion" of a clip directly from FCPX's timeline?

Thanks, I did set the "Render" to "Best", hit Analyze again, saved the file, went back to my FCP project which contained the file/clip, had to render again.....but got the same results, might be a touch improved, can't really tell. Maybe I'll start over and just cover the entire flat screen tv w/ the video to ensure that none of the white image from the tv seeps around the edges??

  • Unable to set custom speed to motion path on Camera

This is a followup question to "Controlling speed along motion paths"
(Many thanks to Mark Spencer and specialcase for the their excellent insights getting me this far =)
After experimenting with motion paths and realizing they were indeed what I was looking for, I set up my project so that the camera would follow specific paths along 2d images. Everything worked perfectly until I tried to modify the speed along which the camera travels along those paths.
In the motion path, in the speed drop down menu, I can select Constant, Ease in etc.... all the way to Custom, but they work slightly differently than I expected: while before (ie. applying motion curves to objects as opposed to the camera) I was able to getting a diagonal line in the Keyframe Editor where I could modify keyframes using bezier curves to adjust the speed, now, choosing the various speed options appears to change the "Transform.Position.X" and "Transform.Position.Y" curves directly.
When I select "Custom", "Motion path" and Custom Speed" appear in the keyframe menu above the Camera drop down, but its curve appears only as a dotted, completely horizontal line in the graphing window. The "Transform.Position.X" and "Transform.Position.Y" curves also revert to horizontal dotted lines. If I try to add curves to the custom speed line, the X and Y curves remain horizontal and the camera does not move.
Is there some reason I cannot get custom speeds for cameras without losing my motion path data?
Is there some way to work around this?
Thanks again for all of your help,
    Tim

I'm not sure if there is some setting I have wrong:
When I try this, while I am able to set keyframes, the motion path data is reset. (ie. the Transform X and Transform Y curves reset to 0).
In the Keyframe Editor, I can make new curves for the X and Y values and for Timing, but the camera does not follow the motion path, it follows the new x and y curves. Trying to get those curves to match the motion path exactly is a large hassle.
    This might help:
If I apply the motion path to an shape rather than to the camera, everything works perfectly (the object moves along the motion path, and I am able to set keyframes for the Custom Speed curve with no problems whatsoever). If I then copy the motion path directly from the shape and paste it to the camera layer, the path appears as a red curve (as it should), but the camera does not move.
Is there some way I can upload the motion file so that you can see what exactly is going on?
    Thanks again,
    Tim

  • Matching cameras in cs6 prem pro.

Canon hfg10, 60d, hfm56, i belive in fcp you can click a button and it matches all camera colours, can this be done in cs6 prem pro.

There's no such button in Premiere Pro, but there is a shot matching tool in Speedgrade CC:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/speedgrade/using/whats-new.html
It's not a hardware-referenced correction so it doesn't actually match 'cameras' - instead it looks at the spectra of each shot and tries to work out the differences between tints on shadows/midtones/highlights. You can't feed it a GoPro sweeping landscape and an Alexa interior headshot, but if the two frames depict roughly the same content it does quite a good job. You can then save the correction data for each camera as a 'look', and back in Premiere Pro CC that look can be applied to all the other bits of footage via the Lumetri effect.
If you want an absolute 'reset' of each clip back to a reference standard, again you'll need to use Speedgrade; this time with the aid of a Macbeth chart. That workflow is a lot more complicated as it was only designed to work with cinema hardware. There is a hacky workaround using Lightroom and the X-Rite plugin:
Export a still frame showing a Colorchecker card,
Import to Lightroom as a DNG file,
Use Lightroom & X-Rite to make a DNG calibration profile,
'Develop' the still frame so the chips are now accurate (and set your expoure and luma end points),
At this point you could save the develop preset and apply it to other video files in Lightroom's Library module but you'd have to transcode your footage and Lr's video export options are limited to say the least.
If you want to use the 'calibration' back in Premiere, it gets fun:
Send the developed DNG to Photoshop and export as a TARGA file,
Import the TARGA to Speedgrade CC, then shot-match your video of the Colorchecker to this still frame (here's where you lose a lot of accuracy as the shot matcher isn't comparing each color chip, only the RGB curves),
Save the correction data as a .look,
Apply back in Premiere with the Lumetri effect.

  • Matching camera data in Photoshop to be the same as in After Effects ?

Is it possible to match camera data (position, rotation, view angle) in Photoshop to be the same as in After Effects ?
My goal is to match a camera from a 3D program in Photoshop but I can't find a way. I was told that I can export the camera data from the 3D program to After Effects and I wonder if I can take it from there to Photoshop.
    Any ideas?

PS will use cameras in 3DS and Collada (DAE) files, if present, but it will only use the first camera stored in the file. Other than that there is currently no way to get calibrated data into PS and not even from AE. You will have to do your matchmoving using your eyeballs.

  • Can camera flash/movie light be turned off?

I think that it is neat that the new iPhone 4 has a camera flash/movie light, but does anyone know if it is user controllable? I would like to be able to turn it off as there are certain situation where a flash going off would annoy people.

I haven't come across anything that mentions if this option is available. The option should be included - automatic, off, or on.

  • Move an animator object from right to left

How do I move an animator object from right to left?  I tried using the value with a minus sign in front of it. (i.e. -(xcoord) )  Please help.
    Thanks,
    Chris

After you create the animator, click on it on the panel, you will see a rectangle. You can drag the rectangle to bigger or smaller. The graphic will be moving inside of this rectangle. In this rectangle, bottom left corner is x0 y0.  Top right cornet is x100, y100.

  • How to move the anchor object in indesign cs2 using js?

i can able to move the normal textframe and other objects but cant do this for anchor objects.
    syntex:  anchorobject.move([x value,y value],undefined,true)
how to move the anchor objects?
    thanks
    subha

Could it be that the anchord object in question won't move because you have it set to keep within margins which is preventing the move you're requesting? I've certainly run into that.
I've also run into the situation where the object model thinks the anchored object is in one place when it is actually in another because of that same keep within margins option. In this case, a move will apparently not work because the move is invisible, it being completely outside of the margins -- although that only applies to relative moves, I think.

    Three words.
    You are doomed.
Whatever you end up doing will not be serialization. It will be reverse engineering of a old (dead) format that could go all pear shaped on you when you least expect it. One of the worst problems in using a solution where you reverse engineer, try and guess hackery your way through a proprietary semi (or totally) undocumented format is that it is really impossible to test your code with any degree of certainty. Does your code actually work? Or does it only work because you haven't seen some totally unexpected (but legal for the format) format yet?
Get the producer to produce XML instead of "serialized" data. This is a much better route for you to go down.
If you decide to keep on your path then grab a DataInputStream and go somewhere else because you'll have to figure out the format of another languages serialized data on a place that isn't this site.

  • Motion Tracking - Match Move, getting messy edges around superimposed video

    (Motion 3.0.2)
I'm using the "Match Motion" menu option under "Motion Tracking" - "Add Behavior" to superimpose a video over a flat screen in the shot. This is working great except for one issue. Around the edges of the super imposed video there is a flickering light that persists. NOTE: The flat screen does display a basic white graphic on it and initially it seemed as though this was leaking through. However, I'm not convinced this is the case as I've stretched the four corners well beyond the underlying white screen and the problem persists.
Pretty sure I went through the proper steps, i.e analyze etc. and the superimposed video does play fine, just the edges are not very clean.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • IMovie '11 Does Not RecogniseMy Motion JPEG Still Camera?

    Fallen at the first hurdle!
My Panasonic FX60 Digital still camera that shoots 1280x720 Motion JPEG is not recognised, though I can see its icon on the desktop and can copy the video onto my desktop.
If I click File>Import from Camera, I get a beautiful image of me from the iSight camera, which whilst being a pleasure to behold, does not help with the importation of video.
Will I have to copy to the desktop etc. or can the beast be made to communicate with my camera?

iM is NOT Finalcut, as I told you before.
it is essential to use iM's own import routines to make 'videos' accessable for iM. that includes the 'right' formats (=iM cares for conversion) and the right location (= iM Events).
You HAVE to import via 'import from camera' AppleMan1958 mentioned above - the m-jpegs my Lumix FZ38 records are readable, appear as 'clips' in the camera-import dialog. I've heard of trouble when m-jpg and avchd is on same SDcard... perhaps for your first steps, keep it simple ...

  • Using data from a camera to move a robot arm

    Hey guys,
I have a 6 motor robot arm that operates through serial commands.  The six motors are the base, elbow, shoulder, wrist, hand twist, hand grip motors.  Each motor accepts a numerical value from 500-5500 to control its position.  From reading the manual this is done through PWM I believe.  Now my problem is that i am designing a game in where one component of it requires the robot arm to pick up a chip from a position that doesn't change, and move it to a game board.  The position on that game board where the robot arm puts the chip will vary depending on the user input.
I though of just recording the values for the position of the arm in each location, but with PWM that can be slightly inaccurate because it may not go exactly back to the location when the command is set.  The square areas on the board are 2 cm x 2 cm, so a bit of precision would be nice.  My remedy was thinking of using a usb web camera to snap a picture of the board, and setup a coordinate system from that image to guide the robot to the correct location.
My question then is (1) is there an easier way to do this that I am missing? (2) If i went with this method then would I probably need 2 cameras? one for x-y plane and one for z-plane. Lastly (3) Also if i went with this method, i having trouble finding examples of using IMAQ to record the continous images, attach coordinate systems to the region of interest, then coorelate that to movement of the robot arm.
If anyone has had any experience doing this and can lead in the right direction then that would be great and I deeply appreciate it!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by sending serial commands and then referencing PWM. Likely, your motor controller/drive is receiving serial commands from LabVIEW and then controlling the motors with PWM signals to actual drive the movement.
If you are having slight inaccuracy in the movement, I'm also guessing that you are not using stepper motors. The much easier option than optical feedback would be to use encoder feedback on the axes, but I understand this would be difficult if you have predefined hardware without access to adding physical encoders. Without knowing more details of your hardware, it is difficult to recommend another solution.
Regardless, the IMAQ programming would be very difficult to accurately identify and guide the robot manipulator. The simpler application I would implement if forced to use image recognition would be to re-zero the robot's position after a move by comparing images when in a "home" position. You could use a fairly simple pattern matching routine and then find the displacement from the original match. This would still take quite a bit of programming, but wouldn't be anywhere near as difficult as continuous processing.

Does that work for generators as well? and how do i ensure its 2d?
Yes, if the generator (or any other object type) is place in a 2D group, it will work as Alan stated.  You can make sure a group is 2D (or 3D) by doing the following.
Select the group then go to the Inspector and click on the button for groups.  The first option will be "Type" you can set the group to 2D or 3D from here.  When you do this, look at the Layer List or Timeline.  When you change the type you will notice the icons change to help indicate if they are 2D or 3D.  On the right hand side, next to the lock icon is a small icons that also changes.  If you click on this, it will also toggle the group type, think of it a shortcut.  The 2D group icons look like a flat arangment of layers.  3D groups look like layers separated ins space.
