I had the same problem, but the answer is simple: be patient. My download stood at 19 minutes remaining for about half an hour.

Hi all,
My upgrade to mountain lion (from lion) freezes almost immediately when it hits the 'install os x' screen. It shows only the smallest possible progress in the progress bar and time remaining is stuck at 'about 34 minutes'. My mbp bought in 2010 rumbles as if doing something, but has been making this sound with no apparent progress for over 45 mins now. How do i get out of this freeze situation?

Ok, after more than an hour 'time remaining' changed to 33 minutes and 15 mins later to 28. The progress bar also started showing progress. Strangely enough it then changed back to 31 mins and less progress (but at least it started showing something). Just hope this is not an indication the the new os has lost the ability to tell time... -
What can I do! I know servers are busy but if its installing right now before the restart it means its finished downloading from apple servers so I don't understand why it has been installing with two minutes remaining for a really long time now :[ I'm afraid ill lose all my files if I do a hard turn off.
Thank you guys for your help!You may have no choice. If you hear no disk activity, you can hold down Command-Control-power button to force a restart. It should pick up where it left off.
No backup is always risky. -
for some reason osx mountain lion has disappeared from my purchases and now when i want to install mountain lion on another mac with the same apple id it wants to charge me for the program even though i have already purchased it. what do i do?
Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

My Mac PRO (serial number <edited by host>) has installed OS X Lion 10.7.5. Can I update it to OS Mountain Lion to work Airplay with apple TV?

The serial number doesn't tell us anything. Open > About this Mac > More Info, and tell us the first two lines of the window, where you should see MacBook Pro and a line below, which indicates the model you have:
That's what I see on my Mac. AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so if you see Early 2011 MacBook Pro or newer in that line, you can use AirPlay Mirroring. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If you want to upgrade, make a backup of your files and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com Then, open the Mac App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps. After upgrading, you will see the AirPlay icon on the menu bar.
If you don't want to upgrade, you can use an application like Beamer or AirParrot -
Attempt to install Mountain Lion has highlighted need for internal disk repair. Even after "repair" ML still says disk is damaged. Attempt to restore from Time Machine back-up failed - cannot 'see' internal HD to restore to. Help! Has attempt to install ML caused these problems or just highlighted existing need to Repair Disk? Csound1, William & Sig .... thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I fear you are right - I'll need a new disk. I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted). Any advice on how to manage multiple drives gratefully received. And thanks again for previous replies.

i have an iMac with mountain lion 10.8.3 with boot camp 5.0.2 .i installed windows 7 -64 bit with boot camp but the boot camp didn't install drivers for windows please guide me for trouble shooting .

You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable. -
Mountain lion has killed my mac book pro. After downloading and trying to install, I am stuck in a loop of "not enough room to install on this disk" and not being able to access the old disk's data to open up space.
Nope. It just opened the installer and stayed in the same loop.
It tells me to choose a startup disk but the only option is the HD which it will not use because it says it cannot gather enough information.
Eveything was working fine until the mountain lion failed install. -

I can only guess that the install process was interrupted, maybe after the files were extracted but before the install, maybe on the reboot?
If it was dome ot would say version 10.8. And you would have the reminder and notes apps as well, also an easy thing to check. -

Go up to the Apple icon on the upper left hand corner of your screen (menu bar).
Click that, and then "More Info". and then "More Info" again.
What does it say? Here's what mine says: -

There is nothing to overcome, your mac is too old to run Mountain Lion. For an iMac it must be a (Mid 2007 or newer) http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ -

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only. I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful. I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard. I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option. I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way. It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort. Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson -

I have a Dual Xeon dual cores MACPro and just got the new OS however it fails to install on the MACPro with the error message "Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer"

I'm guessing that you have a Mac Pro 1,1 or 2,1 model from 2006/7. They cannot run Mountain Lion. -

Thanks.If the OP has this much RAM in their iMac, certain this Mac can run Mountain Lion.
The reason it might not be installing is that 15 GBs of RAM.
Your iMac should have (4) equal sized, 4 GB sticks of RAM for a total of 16 GBs.l
If your iMac is only reporting that there is only 15 GBs of RAM, you have a RAM stick that is either not seated in its slot properly or is defective/going bad.
This maybe the reason that it won't download it.
Also could be you are running out of free space on your HD.
You need, at least 15-20 % or greater free space left on your HD.
