Not sure how the OS was loaded, that was many years ago.
Well, please check before touching the BIOS again, as I noticed:

If you flashed the BIOS and cleared the CMOS, you'll need to re-enable the RAID controller.
Go to BIOS Setup > Integrated Peripherals > On-chip ATA Devices, and set 'Onchip RAID controller' to [Enabled].

I went to the MSI website and ran their Live Update 5 program which showed that I could update my Bios among other things. I selected the new bios for download, followed the instructions for the Windows flash (vs Dos flash). Seemed to go ok but now Windows 7 won't boot.
It does go through the boot process then comes to a screen that ask to start Windows normally or go into System Recovery Options. If I try to start normally, I get the windows logo where it says Windows and the four colored dots start moving, then it reboots.
If I go into System Recovery Options, and I go through startup repair i get the following in the Diagnosis and repair details: Root cause found: A hard disk could not be found. If a hard disk is installed, it is not responding.

Clarify something for us here. Does your computer boot and you can enter bios and windows screen is loading ? Or is the screen black and nothing really happens, except the power comes on ?

  • Flash BIOS -- windows x64

I recently bought the P965 Neo, and want to flash the BIOS from version 1.2 to version 1.5.  The utility MSI supplied on the driver CD says that it will not run on my Windows XP x64 edition PC. The CD will not install the drivers either, FYI.  This seems very strange to me since the board was made for 64bit processors, but anyway, how can I flash my BIOS?  Is my only option to use a floppy drive, because I don't have a floppy drive in my computer (who uses floppys anymore??). Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brad

i never said i didn't have a usb stick or cdr.  i downloaded the latest bios and read the instructions on how to install it.  It says you need a Win98/ME boot disk only, and says that if you don't have either of those to borrow a friends computer because a regular boot disk won't work.  Well, who the heck still has windows 98 on their computer?!?  Is it so much to ask that MSI updates their utilities ( or at least the instructions that come with them)?  I can understand not creating a 64bit version of the LiveUpdate, I suppose, but merely because MSI doesn't support their own hardware, I think this will be my last MSI product.  I knew I should have spent the extra dough and got one of the ASUS boards.
Anyway, the real reason I'm making this post:  Do I really need a Win98/ME boot disk, or will, say, a FreeDOS boot cd work just as well?
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • N500 won't boot windows xp after flashing BIOS

Hi, I purchased an N500 a couple weeks ago, it's been running fine on xp, except occassionally I'd get disconnected from the internet (a line problem, not the computer, happens here in egypt) but the wireless would not automatically reconnect to my line once the line was back up.  The log file for the wireless card said something like "unable to set proper band" when this happened.  Anyway my driver version was the latest version, so I thought maybe I needed to update bios.  So I flashed bios using the flashbios utility that is listed on the lenovo website in the download section dedicated to my laptop model.  The laptop then restarted itself, and then I got the black screen that says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start correctly...." blah blah blah.with options to start up in safe mode, last known configuration that worked etc.  However when I choose ANY of these options about 3 seconds later I get the blue screen of death, and the computer restarts!  So how do I get myself out of this mess!  Thanks Lenovo for that great Flash utility by the way!!

Try reinstall the OS. I hope it works. My opinion is when you update BIOS, The OS detected as a new computer (for some pcs). Try repair The OS with boot from CD.
    Good Luck,....

Hello isetta, I tried to locate the model number you listed on the HP web site and was unable to locate it.
Can you advise what country you are located in? There seems to be several countries that this model number was sold in.
It is possible that you have a different operating system than the one needed to flash the BIOS.

  • [HD2400] no boot after a FAILED UPGRADE flashing bios, how to recover ?

    hi guy !
because i had theses problèmes, i decided to flash my bios but the flashing operation crashed and my PC doesn't reboot ! how to recover my bios ?
    the symptoms of my problem:
    - windows display a "bizarre" bios information (advanced display property ) with XXXX instead real number
    - in my case , it displays 512 Mo for my HD2400 256Mo !!
    - and some resolution like 1680x1050 (for 22'' monitor) don't display correctly (hasardousat reboot)
    - also, during video playing (whatever codec and player), there were any dead pixel always at the same place
so i decided to flashing the bios cause Windows didn't managed to identify it !
now, i just tried to flash the bios with the 6.10 release here :
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=130&prod_no=1248
but i had a error message "upgrade failed".
at the computer reboot, no signal and so no beep from the motherboard !!!
maybe my motherboard will boot a floppy disk without signal and beep, i don't know but maybe...i hope
doesn't anyone know how to build a autofloppy disk restore VGA bios (with WinImage) and send me to [email protected] ?
    help please, i sweep

You either clear the CMOS, or don't boot your board.

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. If mainboard won't even start or you have stability issues don't consider flashing bios as you'd have a good chance of bricking the system. If the board crashes while flashing you can use it as a paper weight.
Just install one stick of ram and make sure it is stable before trying to flash.

    Hi,
What happens when you power up, is it 'dead', or can you get as far as bios.
Is the bios chip socketed ( with ceramic kerb round it)or soldered.
If its socketed, you can swap bios chip easily, or even hot flash it on another Mobo.
Bios chips are available next day delivery from various web sites.
    http://www.badflash.com/
    http://www.flashbios.org/
On this forum  about a month ago, a link to buy a Bios Kit, a kit for each type of bios chip, as far as I could see, a small chip is placed under bios chip, then bios can be flashed. But would only work on socketed chips I think.  I am sure I save the details as I would like to buy the kits, but can't find it. A long search of threads sometime, if you find it let me know.
The rescue function CTRL + HOME, is much the same as the Flash Recovery on post page, but if you can't get it to post, then a blank floppy with the bios file renamed to AMIBOOT.ROM the only file on it.  Then booting rig with floppy in A:>, while holding the CTRL and HOME keys down, will start a flash recovery program, with which you could update the bios to  3.2 or 3.3
Lets know how you get on.
    Cheers
    jocko

I did't do that. I don't want to boot from the RAID. I want to boot from a single S-ATA Drive attached to ICH8. I just want to have the RAID available in Windows as second drive.
EDIT: I just tried that and moved the Bootable addon-card to the first position. But the Controller-BIOS still doesn't show.
    Regards, Pioneer.
I read about this problem earlier. Some PCIe SATA raid controller did just boot on this mobo. I know that much that in the "hdd boot priority" he didint get any hdds to see from this controller and put option "bootable addon card" to first one. No boot.
He changed to pci contoller -> ok. Maybe pcie problem, maybe not.
I have been my self having problems with SCSI hardware. I got 3 cards, all designed to work with 32bit pci (2 actually 64bit, but support 32 too).
    1) Adaptec 2100s, bad write performance unusable
    2) Mylex Acceleraid 1100 even worse read peformance, unboottable from bios.
    3) Atto U3LS works 100%, bad card :S
When I connect some scsi devices to these cards, mylex wont show any hdd in my bios.
Both adaptec and Atto shows in HDD boot priority like:
    Att168 06 : IBM IC35.....
    Ada162 02 : Maxtor Atlas 4k10_73wls
So I would guess that if you dont see any HDD's there from your card, you just cant boot from it.
Also if you get another raid contoller, i would suggest u to check somewhere someone claiming it works on this board.
For performance issues, refer to my thread, see last 2 posts some benchmark pictures.

  • K8N Neo-FSR Appears to re-flash BIOS each boot

After 2 uneventful days with my new New-FSR, I installed a few more programs including MotherboardMonitor.  Upon reboot (MbM insists), I noticed the BIOS POST phase appeared to be quite hung.  Power cycled a few times, and then finally guessed that some long-running action (e.g. re-flashing) is taking place - so I waited about 4 minutes.
I next noticed that the BIOS complained of a Checksum Error - buit nevertheless continued to boot WinXP.  This could be repeated consistently.
Attempting the easiest guess, I powered down and reset the CMOS settings.  This had no effect - other than erasing a few of my adjustments to the BIOS Defaults of course.
Next I tried removing MbM.  I really can't imagine that MbM "did anytning" to my BIOS, but it does reach down into the bowels of the motherboard.  In any event, this had no effect.
Finally, I broke down and used Live Update 3 to update the BIOS.  I had noticed it was at v1.2 - at least the 2nd time I rebooted after the initial MfM install reboot.  Live Update 3 located v1.3 and performed the update from within Windows - kind of slick :-).  Still the same behavior.
I'm worried that I'm reflashing each boot.  Not a good idea.  Things can go wrong :-(.  I'm not much worried about the "wear" on the flash, but the delay is certainly annoying what with all these apps insisting on a reboot everytime.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Though I received no help here or via MSI TechSupport, I thought I'd post my solution in case anybody cares here...
The problem was introduced when I plugged in a USB-2 device from Sasem (their OnAir USB2 HDTV box).  If I unplug this during BIOS POST, the motherboard boots as expected with no 4-5 minute delay.
For details, see this thread.  I thought the issue deserved it's own thread...

I have the above unit (I love it!!) with BIOS version 14CN51WW BIOS running UBUNTU9.04 (did not like the SUSE linux supplied. I hate the loud bleep when you remove the power adapter and also have had a few problems with LINUX hanging with the suspend mode - so I thought I might try to update the BIOS to the latest Version: 14CN67WW
However, how do you do this other than in Windows?
I tried to install Windows XP and 2000 onto a spare SATA disk that I installed into the IdeaPad - but halfway through the installation I get a stop error message saying computer is not ACPI compliant
The only other way I have is a Windows XP routine that loads XP into memory and allows a virtual disk - where I could install the BIOS files - but will this work if I flash from here - don't want to screw up the system board
Older IBM's had an executable file that ran from a DOS session and  flashed the BIOS
Anyone got any advice on how to approach this - before I actually do it

  • Windows blue screen of death crash during Boot Camp driver install

I have been trying to get Windows running under Boot Camp on my 2.66 GHz Alu iMac, but without success.
Boot Camp partitions the drive and Windows XP SP2 installs properly. I boot into Windows, and then insert my Leopard install DVD to install the Apple drivers.
The driver installation gets about halfway, then the machine crashes with a blue screen of death and restarts automatically. It puts me back in Windows, with no drivers installed.
I am installing the Boot Camp drivers from the Leopard retail DVD. This machine is missing the Leopard install/restore discs that came with it, and Apple want to charge £99 for a replacement set.
Is there any way I can get the Boot Camp drivers installed, or do I need to find a friend with the exact same machine and original system discs and use those?

    Aloha Adam.
Don't know whether this is helpful, but below is a list of drivers that are installed (as of Aug 08).
Also, if you have not already, you may find FAQ helpful, as well, at URL: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1656
Lastly, though they're a year old, the Update 2.1 is in .exe format, so if you can get it the .exe download package onto your installed Windows OS somehow (e.g., copied onto a CD, IF Windows can read it), you might stand a chance of alternate means of installing the drivers.
If this helps, please so indicate.
