MOVED: MSI K8N Neo-F problem with Maxtor DiamondMax plus 9 slave.

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia Based board.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=95536.0

it has a 150gb FAT32 partition and a 100gb NTFS one.
Old mobo was a FIC AN11, but that is probably erroneous now.
As for the motherboard not recognizing it, the ide cable was loose. after fixing that, it is detected fine in bios.
And computer management now shows "Online" for the drive after I initialized it, but still shows unallocated under it. It is not unallocated.
Anything I can do to ensure I don't lose information?

Here's a thread about your prob to check out. I thought it was totally solved for all nvidia chipsets, guess not. Nf3's seem to still have it to some extent. It seems Maxtor is the one that "dropped the ball" this time...

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

A lot of things could be wrong but it will be easier to figure out if we know what you did.  When you say you changed settings in Bios, do you remember your last settings and what you did?
It might be helpful if you created a sig (as described in the forum rules) to show what you have in your system like my sig below. (Hint- use profile button in sign on screen.)
Things could be broken even if there is no visible evidence (such as flames or melted component) of course.
If I had to guess and your d-bracket reading is correct, corrupted bios requiring new bios chip, but let's not guess as a lot of things could be wrong and you don't want to invest in a new bios chip if the board cannot be brought back to life.  Consider removing parts and testing them in an other machine.  Start with CPU and memory?
    Good luck.

  • Msi k8n neo plat problems

I have built 2 computers exactly the same.
    msi k8n neo plat
    512 corsair xms ddr 3200
    8og sata maxtor
    amd 64 3200
    128mb ati 9800 pro
    asus cd drive
When i tried to install windows xp pro on both the machines i got the same error. could not copy file. On each try the file was a different one. After hours of trying new things i found that putting the memory in slot 2 on the motherboard  solved the problem, windows installed and booted up as norm. When i moved the memory back to slot 1 the computer would not boot.
I have now left the memory in slot 2 but the computer will still crash every hour.
I am sure this is something to do with the memory but not sure what the problem is.
    Can anyone help.

Can anybody tell me what i should set the cpu fsb frequency to in the bios.
I just read this in the faq
What is the fsb speed of this cpu?
Depending on which FSB you are asking about: The Athlon 64's have the memory controller built in (which was previously part of the Northbridge on the motherboard) which uses up to 200MHz DDR Memory (400MHz FSB) The HyperTransport link from the CPU to the rest of the motherboard runs up to 800MHz. Just to expand on my answer... The HT link is 800MHz, but it's 16 bit in size (2 bytes worth of data per clock) the total bandwidth of the HyperTransport link is 3.2GB in total - 1.6GB sending data to CPU and 1.6GB receiving data from CPU.

  • MSI K8N Neo XP Problems

I just got a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with a 3200 Clawhammer and a 160 GB Seagate Hard drive. Cooling is an SLK-948 with an Enermax 92mm 2800 RPM fan and a Antec 400 watt PSU. Ram, ive tried both 2700 and 3500. My system posts ok then i reformat but when it starts installing the setup files it gives me a blue error screen saying the system was halted. Ive also tried reformating on another computer. Then I just launch the XP setup from the A64 system. All goes well and everything installs until the very end i get the error screen again. I am not overclocking or anything, all bios settings are default as i just got this setup. Ive also tried my seagate harddrive on my other computer and it has none of these probelms.

Start by eliminating possible causes 1 at a time.
I'd start with the RAM.  Set your BIO's to default (compatability) settings.  Use 1 stick to start in slot zero.
If you have another PC to work with (w/ internet access) download and create a bootable CD with memtest86.  You can get it here:  Test Your Memory  If not, perhaps a friend can save it to disk for you.
It's a decent memory tester and has helped me on more than one occassion.  The last time with a 256mb stick of PC2700 Mushkin.  For some reason the FIC board it was on didn't like it.  Everytime I went to install XP it would fail in different places for strange reasons.  Since I'd used the disk successfully just recently before, I ran memtest86 and discovered the problem.
The next thing I'd examine is the CD/DVD-ROM drive(s).  I can't count the number of times I've gone to upgrade a machine, keeping the CD drive, only to discover XP doesn't like the drive.  If you're drive is older, buy a new one.  Don't install using a DVD drive (so they say - I don't have one).
If all else fails use the diagnostic LED's to try and track the problem.

  • Moving MSI K8N Neo RAID.0 array to new MOBO (from Nforce4 Ultra + Sil3114!)

Hi folks!, my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum is GONE  , and I had 5 disks on it:
Disk 1: No RAID - OS - WinXP installed
Disk 2+3: RAID.0 on Nforce4 Ultra MCP controller (onboard)
Disk 4+5: RAID.0 on Sillicon Image Sil3114 controller (onboard)
    Questions are:
1- Anyone knows if ANY CURRENT MSI motherboards model is RETRO COMPATIBLE with the legacy NFORCE4 controllers (with AMD CPU)?
-> In case not, any solution to access the RAID from the NForce4?
2- Since I think no current motherboards have Sillicon RAID controllers (if you know of any, please tell me), anyone knows any PCI controller to attach to the new motherboard COMPATIBLE with the Sil3114? (I read that the new Sillicon controllers are generally compatible with the old ones), so I can access the Disk 4+5.
    Thank you!
    Luis

I feel your pain. I'm also interested in a mobo with a compatible nVidia controller. In my case, it's only a dead drive that was on the 3114 controller (OS) while the nVidia is full with a 0+1 array. Unfortuately Windows refuses every drive I offer it on the 3114.
I'm thinking on doing this, what do u think?  :
1- For the Nforce4 array: Nvidia offical tech support said me that all new NVIDIA RAID controllers (both NFORCE/GEFORCE) are backwards-compatible with legacy controllers like the NFORCE4 Ultra I had, so in theory, a new one should "understand" the RAID array coinfiguration metadata stored on the disks, and no information would be lost. This is as long as the RAID BIOS version of both old and new MB is 9.xx...
So in this case I'l buy a new MB with a Geforce 8200 chipset (ASUS M3N78-VN with a Phenom II 710).
The only worry is how to verify WHICH RAID BIOS version I had on the defunct MB... any idea? Is the RAID BIOS inside the MB BIOS?
2- For the Sil3114 array: I'm buying a Lycom ST-127 PCI host and connecting it on the Geforce 8200 new MB, which essentially contains the same chipset brain as the original Silicon Image 3114 I had on the MSI MB.
In this case, I'd have the same logic controller for that array...
    All disks are SATA.
Any thoughts? I'll keep you posted!
    Thanks, :D
    Luis

    OS
    Win XP SP1
The above rig bought 3 weeks ago,
and its been giving me unstability problems. After installing winxp SP1, when I start installing drivers, these problems would come.
    1. PC would freeze up now and then.
    2. USB keyboard and mouse sometimes wouldn't work after bootup although PC is still running
    3. Blue screen! now and then.
    4. Sometimes different software installation would give error but re-running the installation would be fine.
The above mentioned problems could is still persisting after 2 weeks. I've reformat and reinstalled winxp 4-5 times and the above would still occurs sometimes, even in the middle of installing drivers. It comes randomly and not during a specific software/driver installation.
I've run memtest and RTHBRIBL overnight with no errors and I'm suspecting motherboard. Strange thing is that the MSI live update program help me flash bios on my motherboard and would still prompt me I need to flash my bios everytime.
I've basically almost isolate everything except motherboard. I hope someone can help me determine if it is my motherboard problems. I've going crazy already.

Do you have Cool n Quiet enabled?
If so disable it , and report back.
    Verudium Vortex 430w
Please post the voltage rail ratings.
    Have you tried Prime95?
    http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
It is a stress test that runs under windows and also can be used to test your memory.
    EDIT: http://www.alevtav.com/products.php?brand=1&ATSid=4a2fe5368de8eb29c5723c93b90aec9f
If that is your PSU it is fine.
What nforce drivers are you using?
yes thats the vortex i have
cool and quiet disable thru bios
nforce drivers. seems to have more problems with the newer downloaded from MSI website. but can't really confirm
I've download prime 95 but I did not run it because by running RTHBTIBL will cause my cpu temp to go to 47 deg c. But I'll try it tonight.
note that I'm not running raid. just a 250gb SATA hitachi HD.

  • [845 Series] mb msi 848p neo-v problems with sound card

Since I've bought my new MB, I'm experiancing some problems with my sound card. WinAmp and MusicMatch Jukebox ( any version) does not support 5.1 sound system, but playing in stereo system. The soundcard AC97 is OK, cause Winows Media Player is working properly.Does anyone had such problem and solved it?
I must say that I've already used MSI MB, and all APPs worked properly with the same sound card. The difference is that my ex MB was based on old Intel processors, but not Presscot based as this one.

Have you installed the latest driver to
    the Realtec soundchip(ALC 655)?

  • MSI K8N Diamond - Boot problems with USB devices attached.

    Hi There.
I have been seeking the forums, but havent found the answer to my problem yet.
This is how it goes with ANY USB devices attached to either of the four USB ports on the Motherboard.
When i turn on my system, it hangs in the POST right after displaying the BIOS version (Which I have updated to 1.6) - I cant use my Keyboard to get to the BIOS setup.
    Without USB devices attached...
The system boots without problems. And in Windows XP SP2 i can insert my keyboard, mouse etc. and everything works great - both USB 1.1 & 2.0 devices.
I have disabled the KB/USB.. in BIOS and I have disabled the "Boot on other device" option as well.
As I have found on this forum, a lot of people have problems with USB Front panel and D-Bracket (USB ports) connectors causing the system to hang - But my D-Bracket (USB connectors) and my front USB port is at this time DISCONNECTED - so this cannot be the problem.
The D-Bracket shows the "Bios Sign On" information - and stops at that point
Am I having a malfunctioning Motherboard here, or are there any solutions to this problem?
Please help me as I am desperate to have my system work properly.
    Regards
    Stieper

Well I have read about that somewhere in here, but my problem is NOT with an USB hub, but with any USB device attached to the motherboard's USB slots. It is driving me nuts to be honest!! I think it might be time for RMA
What do you say guys - is my Motherboard ready for RMA, or do I have to try something specific berfore sending it to the retailer??
