MSI 6712 Power Issues. Brand New

Just got XP 3000+ and MSI 6712. I think the ATX adapter on the mainboard may be @#$!. I can only get power If i half push the connection together, and its only like half the juice to the system. Tried multiple Power Supplies and Mobos, it the only one that does it. Ive inspected the pins, they look perfectly straight. Is there another possibility? Also PC wont turn on with power button pressed and ATX fully connected.

I remembered something similar, with a KM2M. The outcome of that thread wasn't any... :
km2m problem - dead (no fans, no led, nada)

the fan worked again, but when the plug is completely inserted, te fan
stops working! Maybe this helps..."

  • Burned Power Adapter & Brand New MacBook Battery All Wrapped in Plastic

It has been for a while since I had a major problem with any Apple Computer, unfortunatly I can't say I am a lucky guy with my MacBook.
Since it was one of the fists MacBooks out, I had the so famous Battery Problem. Last November 2007 I used the Apple Battery Recall to replace it. No problems so far, right...? Wrong!!! The first night I charged the battery, my MagSafe PowerAdapter burned!! Of course I entered in panic... With due work to do and getting without my main computer, it couldn't just be...
Well, if you ask me if I have a replacement PowerAdapter yet, the answer is no. Still waiting for it to be available in Portugal.
Another thing is bothering me quite a lot... Yesterday, feeling quite nolstagic for my MacBook I started to clean it from all the dust he has while I've been waiting for the best Customer Support ever available (yup, I'm been a little ironic...). Funny thing is when I took the battery out I got quite shocked, the battery was inserted with all wrapping plastics over it. I mean, I am no engeneer, but is that suposed to happen??

Yes, you are quite right, maybe I should have taked out the battery sooner. But that would mean also that I suspected an Apple Engeneer hadn't done his job as he should, don't you think?
I've already been back to the customer support, the addapter has a quite good explanation. He has almost 2 years and is constantly moving with me, so the cable was getting weaker. He had to collapse some day. A friend of mine here at the university just got the same problem, and he didn't change the battery...

  • HELP!! - Brand New z87gd85 no display and now no power ?

I bought new PC 2 days back here's the config -
    Processor - 4770k
    Motherboard - MSI z87GD65 gamming
GPU - MSI TwinFrozer GTX 780 gamming
    RAM - Corsair vengence 8gb x 2
    PSU - Corsair TX 850
    UPS - APC 1500va Model : BR1500
    Cabinet - Corsair 400R
I assembled everything yesterday but when tried to switch it on there was no display. Motherboard powersup, fans are rotating but no display.
I tried twice and then i removed GPU but got same results with onboard also. I checked both via DVI and vga both on onboard. There was no error code on motherboard debug display it was showing : 00 all the time. There was no beeping or anything.
So I removed everything and tried again with only 1 ram but still same result. But this time I let it run like that for 1 minute and it shut down automatically and there was no sign of power on the motherboard. Since then i tried everything reconnecting cables, restarting PSU, UPS, tried minimal config with just motherboard and cpu only, tried it by pulling motherboard out of case also, etc
BUT SAME RESULTS MOTHERBOARD IS NOT SHOWING ANY SIGN OF POWER ON ANY LED , FAN OR ANYTHING.
I checked my new PSU  on my old motherboard, it worked.
I checked my old PSU (corsair TX 650) on new motherboard (with only mobo and cpu) AGAIN NO SIGN OF POWER.
    IS MY MOTHERBOARD DEAD ?
Any ideas what else I can test ????
This is brand new board didn't worked even once.
After spending fortune on new high end gamming pc it just doesnt work NOT EVEN ONCE. Its really frustrating :|
    Edit:
[Also I contacted tech support but didn't got any notification on my email or anything is this common ? There's no way to track support ticket ?]

Hi APC tells me none of there backup ups are to be used on haswell high performance systems. They told me to change mine to the Smart ups model. Just try it plugged into a anti surge bar and see if that helps. They recommend to never use more than 80 % of what the ups can put out.
If it makes any difference this is my UPS model - http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1500G-IN&total_watts=200
Its "backup pro" & suppose to be new series as told by customer care but yes 85% efficiency at full load but TX 850 also has 80% efficiency. Still I am not really sure about UPS that's why I called customer care in first place. I will check that again with tech support from APC and I will upgrade if required.
But I don't really think thats the problem since PC isnt working even when connected to the mains directly.

  • Brand new MSI GE70 2OC battery won't charge

    Hi all
I have a rare issue related with the laptop power system of a brand new GE70 2OC: basically, the battery won't charge.
-In Windows 8, with the battery installed and charger connected to the laptop: the battery does not charge and drains.
-If I boot with a linux live cd, exactly the same happens: there's no charging, and the battery is draining.
And here we go with the mess...:
-If I start windows8 only with the charger connected (battery removed), the computer turns on properly, windows start booting, but before showing the home screen, the laptop turns off. As if power were suddenly removed.
-If I start the same way (only with charger, battery removed), and entered the bios, I can stay here forever: laptop doesn't turn off until I wan't.
-If I start the same way (only with charger, battery removed) with a linux live cd, I can work without problems every time I wan't
It's very strange... If the battery is not dead, I think may be some kind of BIOS or firmware issue, because the failure of "battery not charging" appears in any situation (turned off, in bios, in windows, in linux).
The charger is not broken. It runs smoothly without battery in bios and linux.
I tried a EC Reset. Nothing happens... ¿Any idea?

    Thank you both
I'm still in the 7 days money back guarantee from the seller. I've contacted the shop, but still expecting for news.

  • Brand new with performance issues -- programs not responding, system hanging

Just this morning I began migrating from a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that has been generally reliable for the better part of 3 years (monitor housing is literally falling apart but still works great... check E-Bay later for spare parts! lol)... migrating to a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5136 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit.  It's literally right out of the box 5 hours ago and I've been reinstalling programs, transferring files, etc.
The problem is that I'm already noticing a lot of performance issues.  The system (and/or programs) seem to get caught often... resulting in frequent "Program not responding" messages (some of which the system manages to bypass)... and a few of the "This program closed unexpectedly" or "This program stopping responding... do you want to check online for a solution or just close the program?" messages.
This is happening on multiple programs... tax prep software TaxAct update dialog hangs after 256 bytes downloaded every time, AVG Anti-Virus was hanging although never gave me a not responding message, Internet Explorer has stopped responding a couple times, Windows Live Mail did often, especially when I was using IMAP (since changed to POP3 and problem seems to have resolved but still).  Even opening the start menu a few seconds after plugging in an external hard drive lagged the system like hell for a full two minutes until it caught up with itself.
This is unacceptable in a brand new machine.  I was getting a few errors like this on my Dell every now and then but I chalked it up to an old machine that had never been wiped and had a failing hard disk.  I understand the computer moving slower, especially as I've been installing a lot, running antivirus, downloading all at once, but no way programs should simply stop responding this often.  I could do twice the activity on my Dell and have no issues.
I've uninstalled several of the preloaded programs... the antivirus, quickbooks, etc.  I've also disabled and/or uninstalled several of the other programs like Toshiba Reeltime and Toshiba Zoom Manager or whatever that was.  Nothing has seemed to help.  And that's not surprising... the speed is great, it's that programs are getting caught so often, sometimes every time or every other time I open up a program.
Is this a Windows 7 thing? (This is first time using Windows 7, coming from Vista).  Is it a Satellite thing?
Anyone have any suggestions?  Is it possible there's just some component that's bad?  Processor, RAM, etc.?
    Thanks... very frustrated!

I may have found a solution. I changed my startup programs and stopped some of the Toshiba software from running at startup. The ones I stopped are listed below. I have used the laptop heavily for two days now and have not had any problems. It actually runs very fast. I hope this will help.
    Toshiba Reel Time
    Toshiba Sleep
    Toshiba PC Health Monitor
    Toshiba WebCamera App.
    Toshiba Power Saver
    Toshiba Message Center
    Toshiba Service Station
    SmartFaceVWatcher
    Toshiba Online Backup
    Toshiba Zooming Utility
    Toshiba eco Utility
    Toshiba App Place

For people that don't know how to change these, here are the instructions.
Click Start > Type msconfig in the search box > open msconfig > click on the startup tab > remove the checkmarks next to the above programs > restart computer.
Doing this may not fix your problems, but it did fix mine.

  • Sleeping issue on brand new Satellite Pro U500-1EX

    Hi Guys,
    I've got a brand new Satellite Pro U500-1EX with Windows 7 64bit.
The laptop is having some issues with its sleep function. I am wondering if others have had the same problem - and if anyone knows anything that can be done.
    OK there are two issues;
    1. when the laptop enters sleep mode - it will come out of it on its own after some time. it goes to the login screen and wait for about another hour before going back to sleep. This is while plugged into power - and no LAN.
    2. When I close the lid to put the laptop to sleep - and while on the battery - after some time it will not power up at all. Plugging in the power will not do anything at all - the power light will not come on at all - suggesting the laptop does not even notice being plugged. I then have to take out the battery and switch the computer on (thereby losing any data I had when I put the computer to sleep!!).
So, have you seen this problem with your satellite pro's? Is it something common and to be ignored - or is there an easy solution to it?
    Thanks in advance.
    - Audette

I have actually updated the BIOS to the latest - one of the first things done when I got the laptop.
And, yes I do have the pre-installed OS that came with toshiba.
One thing I did notice is, if I have the laptop in standby and switch the laptop on again whilst in battery mode, then it will power up. But if I take out the power and plug in power before powering the laptop on- then it will not power up at all!!! Thereby, I have to take the battery out and put back in to get it to work. wierd huh??!!

  • Brand new MPB 15" power source is always "power adapter"

So, my brand new 48-hours-out-of-the-box Macbook Pro has developed a nice little issue. Everything is fine when the power adapter is plugged in, nothing abnormal. Whenever it's unplugged, however, it still says the power adapter is plugged in and the battery is "not charging". E.g., if I click on the battery icon in the menu bar when unplugged (show setting: percentage), these are the first two lines of the menu, verbatim.
    Battery is not charging
    Power Source: Power Adapter
Oddly, percentage is listed and (to the best of my knowledge) accurate.
I've tried an SMC reset many times, nothing. PRAM reset, nothing.
Anyone else with this problem? Seems like a firmware glitch.

Hmm, when I boot up from the restore disc, System Profiler is normal. It shows a "power settings" entry for both the adapter and the battery. From the hard drive, system profiler shows only a settings entry for the adapter, which leads me to believe that the battery settings were somehow corrupted and now only the adapter case is recognized.
Since there's no drop down when clicking on the battery icon when booted from the restore disc, I can't compare that. Note that Sys profiler is identical in both cases except for the aforementioned difference. In both cases, it states that the "AC Charger" is not fact connected when on battery power.
If I end up having to take a 3 day old macbook pro to the genius bar, they better do the right thing and swap it out on the spot.

  • Brand new Airport Extreme base station- erratic power on behaviour

It doesn't power on the 1st time on opening the box, bring back to distributor and power on flawlessly there.
Bring back home again, carefully check all power connections including back of airport, transformer and the wall power outlet.
Other equipments, computer, printer, switch, etc. sharing the same wall power outlet had no power problem.
Sometimes power on with light, sometime don't (no lights at all); when it power on, sometime its turn itself off without any notice.
    Any help please.

OK OK. Am I bad luck. try a few more times at different sites with different power socket, still no luck.
Try HK support, just ask u to reset, and reset, check connection, etc. without much real help to the issues.
Now the the transformer is certified dead, no more power up even after hours or rest.
Perhaps the transformer is not that compatible with the power supply.
I'm not quite satisfied with the post-sale service I obtained, as the product had not been functional since i bought it brand new Dec last year.
Anyway. I'd not recommended this product for use Hong Kong.

  • MSI Z77A-GD80 : Few issues with new board.

    Hi all,
Swapped out my old motherboard for a MSI Z77A-GD80 yesterday.
I am liking the board (and fast BIOS) a lot so far! I did ran into a few nags though:
    1. When using Click BIOS II in Windows 7 x64, applying new settings to the BIOS seems to take 30-40 seconds (and the app will freeze in the meantime). Anything i can do about this?
    2. My previous motherboard (GA-Z68X-UD7-B3) allowed me to wake up my computer by pressing a random key on my keyboard.
If i try this with my GD80, the backlight of my Logitech G710+ keys will light up, but the PC does not resume from sleep mode.
I tried both BIOS settings regarding Wake up Events: BIOS > Keyboard > Random and OS. Both do not seem to work.
    Any suggestions?
The device is set in Windows, to be allowed to wake up my computer.
    3. I connected a brand new Firewire PCI backplate to the motherboard header connection.
When i hook up a firewire device, nothing happens. I sincerely doubt the header would be busted or the controller on a brand new motherboard would be broken.... do i have to turn this on somewhere in the BIOS perhaps?
Thanks a lot for any info!

@ Froggy Gremlin: Concerning question 2. : You mean the Network adapter power settings influence the keyboard power settings? I'm a bit confused...
(The goal is to wake up the machine with the local USB keyboard).
Not really a factor if wanting to use the keyboard as a wake device, but in the Device Manager, Network adapter, Properties, Power Management, you might want to set that how you want it as it is a separate setting from the Control Panel, Power Options. I personally don't use any sleep or hibernate options as I always hard shutdown my machines, so in the BIOS S1 state is set rather than S3 as related to ACPI I believe it is?
I took a stab at question 2, 1 and 3 was more in my wheelhouse.

  • Brand New MBPr Issues From 1st Boot

    Morning all,
Just purchased the top of the range 15" MBPr, (1TB SSD 16GB RAM) and have had issues with it from 1st boot.
I'm hoping I can sort these (just switched from windows) as I will have to return it if not.
On 1st power on the setup ran and locked up for 30+ minutes when trying to enable the icloud drive.  It eventually completed, and after enabling FileVault (this was enabled by default) I had the issue where it kept asking for the power adapter to resume encryption even though it was plugged in.
I ended up calling Apple support who advised me, to erase the disk and reinstall OSX Yosemite from the recovery partition.
After waiting 4+ hours for the downloads to complete the reinstall had issues with drawing the pages, for example if I clicked back, the text on the page didn't change, but the dialog boxes did.  I ended up powering it off and restarting the setup which did go OK.  I have now enabled FileVault and sat babysitting it whilst it encrypted to ensure no issues.
I then installed the latest OSX update (10.10.1) and now shutdown takes a lot longer, the background greys out, and I get the spinning iPhone style icon (not the beach ball).
I'm really starting to lose confidence in the machine, and after spending over £2000 on it I feel it should be performing better.
Has anyone got any tips on what I do to improve things, or have they seen this before with a brand new clean build before I give up and return it?
    Thanks
    Darren

  • Brand new 520 - 2 issues

    Hello guys,
here is the short story about my feeling first. I have been using thinkpad series laptop for many years (I had 3 thinkpads when IBM was still owner of the series) . And then I switched to MBP for 3 years. Now I am back because of W520 series laptop. I had a very high expectation from this monter machine. But here is my frustration:
    1. FAN issue
I am not sure why this FAN is always on. I keeps blowing cool air away. It is nice to have cool operation going on, but is kind of nerving when it comes to loud noise it makes. Is it a feature or something bad is going on on my system?
    2. Finger print reader automated boot
I am also not sure whether this is a feature. When I shutdown my laptop, the finger print reader device is still active by having green light on. When I swipe my finger while the machine is off, the OS starts and logs me on automatically using the fingerprint which is nice. But while the machine is shutdown, it has some noise going underneath it, maybe because of being able to start up once the finger is swiped. Seems like the ssd is never off or something (This noise comes from the back side and middle centre of the case).  For me, it is kind of still operating and consuming huge amount of memory (sounds like hard disk access, but I have only Intel 160GB SSD ). Once I unplug the battery and put it back, the sound goes off and the green light of the finger print reader device is off. This makes me feel as it were a feature, but makes me worry that the hardware would not last long if it keeps operating like this even if the machine is off.
Can someone please share his/her idea on this? I keep listening to my machine and tries to understand what is going on. I have this machine for only two weeks now and it already made me change his keyboard because of a key sound on the keyboard. I already talked to lenovo tech about these issues. They keep saying I should send the machine back and they will inspect this and repair. But this is a brand new 2 weeks old machine , how should I agree on repairing a new machine. This just does not make any sense.
Thanks for understanding my frustration, this machine was about $2500 and now I already have lots of issues.

    1. I posted some thoughts on setting up power managment settings to minimize the fan over on the thinkpads.com forum, if you don't mind visiting there. There is another thread there where the author of the thinkpad fan control utility posted a link to a version customized for the w520. (Make sure you scroll to the end.)  I haven't tried it yet.
    2. I have never noticed a sound from the w520 when it's asleep, hibernated, or off. I have a mSATA SSD and a regular HDD installed. Could there be something rattling around? When I carry it, I can hear/feel the battery flopping back and forth a little.
I found a flyer from UPEK for some of their older fingerprint readers that claims 70uA at 3.3V when asleep. (Most of their tech info is locked away for their partners.) If I'm doing the math correctly, that works out to 0.000231W. My W520's battery claims a full charge capacity of 93.50 Wh. So I think it would take one of those about 46 years to drain the battery. Even if the reader actually in the W520 draws 100x as much power when in the green-light state (could drain a full battery in about 5-6 months), I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it.

  • AC Power Adapter issue with new (refurbished) ibook...

I just got my refurbished ibook today and went to plug it in and test it, and then wanted to charge the battery on it. At first I thought it wasn't doing anything when I went to turn it on (it made the starting sound but the power button didn't turn on or anything), but then after trying a couple times, I noticed that the black screen had a faint image of an apple on it. I had the screen too far to the front for me to see it clearly (as it's an lcd screen) and later when setting my preferences, I had noticed the brightness was just too dim which I adjusted...
So the power button never did glow when it was turned on (at least I didn't notice it after I got it booted up). My adapter's plug fits loosely in the socket on the laptop but still glows green, but all the time... Isn't it supposed to glow orange when charging??? Well I was setting up everything and did my power management settings as well, and as I have it set up to show me my battery level on the desktop, I was noticing that it was depleting (at what I would guess is a normal pace for my current settings), it started off around 83% and had gone down to 58% or so after about 1 and a half hours with highest settings basically. But my power adapter was plugged in the whole time... Shouldn't it be using my AC power and not the battery's?
So I turned it off and now it is sitting there (hopefully charging), but that little green light on the adapter where it plugs into the laptop is just that, still green...
Does all this mean that there is a problem with the power adapter and its ability to actually charge my laptop? I got this refurbished (from TigrfDirect) with a 1 year warranty (from Apple) so this should be covered, but as I just received the thing today, I really don't want to have to deal with a messed up AC Adapter...
Also, I haven't even yet checked the battery itself to see what # it is and if it is one of the ones that is part of the recall or not... I would hate to have to do that and not have a working AC Adapter, though of course if the adapter is't working, I can't charge the thing anyways, so I guess I would have to wait another few weeks with dealing with Apple and the warranty issues anyways.
I looked in the help section and the only suggestion they had for if your battery doesn't charge is to take it out and put it back in and then attach the adapter again. I guess I could do that at the same time I check on the battery's recall status, I just hate opening my computer up as soon as I get it. Also the battery cover is not totally flush with the rest of the case, one corner sticks up a bit, and I think it was a replaced item as it doesn't have the little LED lights that the computer says should be there to tell me how much the battery is charged (unless this is UNDER the cover for some reason, but the cover is bright white compared to the rest of the ibook coloring, so it seems as it was just a basic replacement cover used)...
Ok, so thanks for any input you might have. I will let people know in a couple hours if the ibook has actually charged at all during that time or not...

So I did the reset button thing and it didn't do anything at all... If I plug in the power adapter without the battery the laptop will not turn on at all, so I am guessing that it definitely is the adapter and will have to contact Apple to somehow get a new one. Oh great, tomorrow's Friday and isn't this a holiday weekend? Which means it will probably take even longer to get them to send me a replacement adapter... You think that buying a refurbished mac would mean that they would have tested out all the parts/components first before reselling it...
And so while I was at it, I checked on my battery's model # and serial # and it is one of the ones on the recall list. I think I was right that it had been replaced (now that I know that the battery is part of the back cover) which would probably explain the recall battery as this is one of the older ibooks and should have been one of the lucky ones made before the ones on the list... I did get to see the lights (only 3 though) flash solid green for about 3 seconds when replacing the battery back into the laptop.
One good thing did come out of this... As I was taking the keyboard out to find the computers serial # (I already filled out my form for the new battery), I was surprised to see an Airport card. Not that it would have surprised me too much in the first place except that it wasn't listed in the details/parts list when I bought the laptop. It was also listed that my laptop had a 10GB hard drive (while the picture on the website showed a 30GB one). The box it came in said 30GB as well, but I just dismissed that. I had went to see how much space I had left on the HD to see that it had 13.99GB and this is after any formatting, and the install of OS 10.2.8 including OS 9.2.2... So a few added bonuses to help make up for the fact that it is NOT is as good shape as I was expecting (or should be to even be sold as a refurb IMO), and the fact that the AC adapter is completely faulty.
I just hope that I can get a new AC Adapter soon, so that I can at least be able use my laptop with some kind of power until the new replacement battery shows up. This must be some kind of terrible joke. I get the laptop to be able to use it for a few hours and then have it be without ANY kind of power for posibly up to 2 months? I seem to have the worst luck with Macs, which makes it strange as I have never had any problems with all the PC's I have ever used (and I started using computers when I was 4) but I have now had an imac die (possibly the HD), an Apple studio monitor start flashing on the screen possibly due to connector problems, and now this (and all within 2 months). I am almost ready to just give up, but I have spent too much time and money on all this mac stuff (and all for my obsession with OS X) to do it just yet.
So please tell me macs aren't always this horrible, or else I will have to make up my own commercials where PCs are better because at least they turn on and boot up for more than 1 week (I think I had the imac working for about 5 days total before it would boot with errors).
Or some kind soul could also mail me a working AC Adapter that would work with my ibook (if you happen to have a spare), so I could get to do more on it other than changing it's settings... I now only have 40% battery life left. I don't think I should even turn it on again as the boot up alone would drain away too much precious juice...

  • Help! Brand New Lenovo A10-70 - Issue Downloading Apps

    Hi Lenovo Community,
I just purchased a brand new A10-70 tablet and while I love the price and features, there appears to be on major issue. Whenever I try to download game apps from Google Playstore, the pad errors out and tells me "Application Could Not Load to SD Card", heck I don't even have an SD card installed.
This is  actually the second tablet doing this to me. I took the first one back and exchanged it thinking that there was a software glitch but it now appears it is a platform issue.
Games such as Minecraft PE simply will not load while others appear to load fine but then when you go to open the app and  use it, you get a notice that the app is not installed.
I have other tablets from Samsung, HP and even Nabi which have never had  issues downloading game application.
    What's up with Lenovo?
I am willing  to try to get corrected but cannot wait long, will take back  and get another Samsung.
    Thanks,
    Biggzy

  • Display issue on brand new 2014 X1 Carbon Touch

So I was about to start raving about my X1C that I just received. Loving the display, the keyboard, build quality, etc. I had no gripes and was just browsing away when suddenly the screen did the full glitch. I recognize this as what happens when something's messed with the motherboard/display adapter. So I gave it a reset. All was normal and then it happened again. I was able to replicate it 3-4 times and it keeps happening. I never dropped it or anything. It was always just stationary.
I can't believe this. I had problems with the first gen non-touch and touch. I was hoping by now they have improved.

From the snapshots, it seems like a cable/LCD issue. Is the display working fine when you connect it to an external monitor?
